  • Mum Wakes From C-Section To Find Both Her Legs Amputated

Mum Wakes From C-Section To Find Both Her Legs Amputated

Not even in your wildest dreams would you want anyone to go through this terrible trauma what Ella Clarke, 31 of Torquay, Devon has experienced. Clarke was pregnant with her eighth baby but she had a condition called placenta previa, also known as a low-lying placenta. Midway through her pregnancy, Clarke was told she would have to deliver via C-section.
Mum Wakes From C-Section To Find Both Her Legs Amputated
No big deal for this mum who has delivered six of her babies the same way. But what happened after labour has changed her life forever.
Clarke was put to sleep for scheduled C-section. The procedure didn’t last long but she woke after six days to see both her legs amputated below the knees.

    How could this happen?

Well, a medical negligence cost her legs.
About 30 minutes into her C-section, Clarke’s placenta embedded itself deeply into her uterine wall.

A complication called placenta accreta caused massive hemorrhaging which lead to an emergency hysterectomy. After five blood transfusions and an induced coma, she delivered a beautiful and healthy baby girl – Winter Rose.

Due to the negligence of the hospital, as supposed to be monitored every hour for blood clots, she was not under observation. Six hours allegedly passed without being monitored. This deadly mistake cost her legs – clots formed in her legs and deprived her lower limbs of blood supply. It was too late to save her legs. Ultimately, her legs were amputated below the knees to save her life.

Clarke was clueless about her induced coma. She woke up and waited for the nurse to pass the baby but she was in for a shock.
She said, “I remember the moment I woke up. I thought I was waking up from my C-section. I expected my beautiful little baby girl to be passed to me. I had no idea I’d been in a coma.”
The hospital has apologized for the mistake and is held for thorough investigation.

Ella has taken legal action against the NHS hospital in Torquay; her family and friends strongly support her battle against the hospital.

The Life of Ella Clarke would never be the same again.

A Once active mum is now in a wheelchair and has prosthetic legs.
All for what? A medical oversight that should have been easily prevented.
“I knew the risks of blood loss, but I never expected to wake up three days later without my legs,” Clarke said.
“Going into the hospital to have a baby should have been the best moment of my life. Instead, my world has been shattered. A thoughtless oversight has cost me so much. I will never stand on my own two feet again, and that makes me shudder,” she said.

  • Surprising facts every woman that has been pregnant should know!

Pregnancy; that magical time in your life when everyone says you’re glowing but you just feel like all you do is spend your time in the bathroom, either because you have to pee or you have to vomit!

Take a look and see how many of our surprising pregnancy facts you already knew!

If you are less than 12 weeks pregnant when you go for your first scan you run a very high risk of the scan being internal. While this might sound scary, it’s actually just slightly awkward and uncomfortable, especially if it’s something you’re not expecting.

While we’re on the subject of scans, as much as you want to see your baby bean as often as possible most women only get scanned twice during the entirety of their pregnancies. Once at 12 weeks and again at 20 weeks.

Obviously some instances will result in more scans. For example you may have dating scan if you don’t know how far along your pregnancy is or if your doctor or midwife is concerned the baby isn’t growing as he should be you will most likely received another scan later on in your pregnancy.

Baby brain is a real thing! Nobody puts their keys in the fridge and the milk down the toilet because they want to! But the most likely reason for the dreaded baby brain is simply fatigue. Pregnant women do not get nearly as much sleep as they actually need, so by all means use this as an excuse for an extra nap wherever you can.

While eating for two might seem like a fantastic side effect of pregnancy it’s not actually the case. What you will actually need during pregnancy is just an extra 300 calories. That’s the equivalent of 2 large bananas or three Freddo bars, so choose your calories wisely.

Morning sickness is a very common side effect of pregnancy and unfortunately the name can be quite deceiving. I guess morning, noon and night sickness just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. But most women that suffer with morning sickness will tell you it can hit you at anytime of day! Be at bedtime, lunchtime or whenever they smell something that turns their stomachs.

Also on the subject of morning sickness you might have been to told that the sickness will go away or subside by the end of the first trimester, unfortunately I’m afraid for some women this is simply not the case and you will still be getting morning sickness all the way up until the day you deliver.

Have a birth plan but be prepared for your baby to have other plans! Being prepared is fantastic, if you know you want to use a birthing pool make sure you write it down and that your midwife is aware, or if you don’t want to use any painkillers, good luck to you, make sure the midwife and your birthing partner know what your plan is. But you also have to remember that you don’t know how your baby will be brought into to the world. With all the best intentions some labours end in an emergency caesarean, it might not be safe to use that birthing pool or it might hurt a lot more than you expect and you’ll be begging for an epidural! So be prepared and have a plan, but be prepared not to follow it to the letter!

A very common misconception is that women that suffer with heartburn will be birthing a hairy baby and will it be nice to know that the horrible heartburn with suffering is because their baby will be born with flowing locks, there is actually a much simpler and less satisfying medical reason. During pregnancy the valve between your stomach and esophagus relaxes, this allows your stomach acid to rise up into your throat and causes that painful burning sensation. This is why you will say so many pregnant women carrying a bottle of Gaviscon in their handbags at all times.

Which other facts about pregnancy surprised you?
Did we miss anything important out?

  • It’s Only For Mothers You Sicko-Dad Shaming

A woman has defended a man after he was shamed out of a parents’ room in an Australian shopping centre.

According to a witness Mikaa Ives the man was trying to change his son’s nappy when another mother walked over to him, accused him of being a “sicko” and ordered him to leave.
“There was a dad in the middle of changing his son’s nappy, already having a difficult time with his son not wanting to be changed,” Mikaa Ives wrote on a local parenting Facebook group page.

The woman allegedly accused the father of “staring at her naked kids” and threatened to call security.

“The lady piped up and started abusing the dad for being in the parents’ room: ‘It’s only for mothers, get out you sicko’, literally saying she would call security and say he was staring at her naked kids if he didn’t leave the room,” Ives said.

“He picked up his son who mind you didn’t even have a clean nappy on yet and went to stand outside the door.

“His son was hysterical and he’s just saying ‘its okay mate, we’ll go back in there soon.”

Ives, who was disgusted at the woman’s behaviour, walked over to the father and told him to come back inside and finish putting a clean nappy on his child.
She said if the other woman called security she would back him up.
“At this point I thought f*ck this, told the dad to come back in and finish changing his son, told the lady that if she wanted to call security to go ahead because I would 100 per cent back the dad up,” she wrote.
“Old mate finished changing his son, thanked me and off he went.
“I was absolutely shocked that the poor bloke felt he had no choice but to leave like she said … I was BEYOND disgusted.”
Ives went on to say that the mother in question wasn’t even changing her children – she had just gone into the parents’ room to check her phone while her kids played.
“ITS A PARENTS ROOM NOT A F***ING MOTHERS ROOM. If you’re one of the people who act like that when a dad is simply changing his child, then I suggest you stay the f*** away from the PARENTS room,” she vented on Facebook.
The shopping centre website refers to its “parent rooms” being equipped with a microwave, lounges, change tables and toilets.
More than 300 people have commented on the post with a number of fathers revealing they’ve had similar incidents happen to them.
“Happened to me twice now. Thank goodness my little boy is out of nappies now,’ one father shared.
Another wrote: “I’ve had security called on me for taking my daughter into a parents’ room to change her nappy. Security basically told her to pull her head in as I was clearly changing a baby.”
“I’m a dad n copped the same when ever I had to change my son’s nappy. Didn’t move just told them to [do] whatever they needed to do to feel better about themselves,” one dad wrote.
“When someone kicks you out of a parent’s room you literally have nowhere to go with your children, it’s good to know that there are people out there who care.”

  • A Day In The Life Of A Lazy Father

    Dear Diary,
Last night was difficult – the baby woke up crying for a bottle and briefly woke me up too.
I woke my partner and then pretended to be asleep, so she’d have to deal with her. I fell back to sleep within seconds, but I’m so knackered.

I’m sure she’s fine, she’s used to having no sleep.

This morning, I jumped out of bed, made myself some breakfast, I enjoyed a nice, hot coffee before having a relaxing poo, followed by jumping in to a hot shower on my own.

I didn’t make her anything for breakfast, though – she’s used to doing everything on her own; she doesn’t need my help.

I put my clean boxers and socks on, my freshly ironed work clothes and it was only 07:40 – I leave at 08:00.
So, with all this spare time I had before leaving for work, I sat scrolling through my phone and watched her feed the baby whilst listening to her complain that she misses having a hot drink and something to eat without stopping every five minutes.

    Probably hormones. She’s always moody.

Well, with 20 minutes spare and nothing to do, I left early for work so I didn’t get stuck in shitty traffic; she had loads of housework to do anyway, better not get in the way of that.
I would help do a little bit, but I’d rather listen to the radio and have some quiet time before work.

    Work is so stressful.

Five days out of seven, I have to spend time with adults and socialise a bit. I get two fifteen minute tea breaks and an hour’s lunch – completely alone.
On the plus side, I get a career and I know I’ll always be financially stable, so that’s a perk I guess.
My lunch was actually quite enjoyable – she packed my favourite snacks and made me a sandwich with my favourite filling!
With an hour spare, I had plenty of time to reflect on my thoughts and actually, plan a night out with the lads.

I deserve it, I think. I only get two whole days and every evening to myself a week.

She won’t have plans anyway, she has a baby to look after.
Actually, I had a message from her on my break to tell me what was for dinner when I got home, that our baby had rolled over for the first time, that she loves me so much and and can’t wait for me to come home and spend the weekend with them as a family.

She’s so needy, I only left a few hours ago.

I don’t think she’ll be happy when I tell her I’m going out with the lads at the weekend, but it’s tough. I earn the wage and put a roof over her head, I’m allowed.

She has no friends anyway, they seem to have ditched her since having our baby.

I drove home from work after a tough day typing emails and speaking to clients, I could smell dinner as I pulled up, but was shocked to see her when I walked through the door.
She was still in the same clothes as she was this morning, she’d had no wash, there was more washing piled up and now she’s asking me to take the baby aswell.

I told her that I couldn’t and I wanted to sort myself out after work.

God, can I just have a minute to myself, please?

I took another hot shower and put my clean clothes on, sat down and complained at how hard my day’s been.

I’m allowed to complain, right? She doesn’t work, so she doesn’t know how it feels.

Out of nowhere, she burst in to tears and asked why I didn’t reply to her message at lunchtime; she asked if I still loved her and why I don’t help her out with our baby.

I ignored her, had my dinner and decided to nip out for a drive to get some space, I needed to vent to somebody.
Plus, the baby started crying again and needed rocking to sleep – I thought I had better leave her to it.
I came back a bit later and the baby was asleep.

    Peace and quiet, finally.

She was in a bad mood when I got in, so I just went straight to bed – I have work tomorrow and I need a decent night’s sleep.
Having a baby is hard work.
    Goodnight.

  • Baby Sleep Aids Killing Babies, Don’t Use This Product

British supermarkets such as Tesco’s, high street retailers and online firms are selling baby sleep positioners despiteserious health warnings, while hundreds of listings were still on eBay despite the firm vowing to remove them from their site.

British supermarkets, high street retailers and online firms are selling the products, also called “nests” or “anti-roll” cushions, despite warnings that they could cut off a baby’s oxygen and causing 12 known deaths in the US.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reminding parents and caregivers not to put babies in sleep positioners. These products—sometimes also called “nests” or “anti-roll” products—can cause suffocation (a struggle to breathe) that can lead to death. The two most common types of sleep positioners feature raised supports or pillows (called “bolsters”) that are attached to each side of a mat, or a wedge to raise a baby’s head. The positioners are intended to keep a baby in a specific position while sleeping and are intended for infants under 6 months old.

To reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, including accidental suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants sleep on their backs, positioned on a firm, empty surface. This surface should not contain soft objects, toys, pillows, or loose bedding.

Safety Advice for Putting Babies to Sleep.

NEVER use infant sleep positioners. Using this type of product to hold an infant on his or her side or back is dangerous.

NEVER put pillows, blankets, loose sheets, comforters, or quilts under a baby or in a cot. These products also can be dangerous. Babies don’t need pillows and adequate clothing—instead of blankets—can keep them warm.

ALWAYS keep cots and sleeping areas bare. That means you should also never put soft objects or toys in sleeping areas.

ALWAYS place a baby on his or her back at night and during nap time. An easy way to remember this is to follow the ABCs of safe sleep: “Alone on the Back in a bare Crib.”

  • Greater Anglia Don’t Cater For Infants

A lady named Loren Jackson has taken to Facebook to share her disgust at her treatment when travelling on Greater Anglia trains and how Greater Anglia Don’t Cater For Infants .

    Jackson said:

“How ‘Greater Anglia’ expect a 5 month old to travel when we have paid for reserved seats! She is balanced on top of suitcases!

Also had to stand in the toilet so my son could stand 👍 so not only did we wait at the platform for at least twenty minutes which was empty until the over sold carriage arrived, only to be barged out-of-the-way by fully grown adults whilst pushing a baby in a pram and two young toddlers at my side, one who was almost pushed down on to the tracks between the train and platform.. to be the first waiting but last person on after the conductor told me unless she was folded down and balanced in the luggage hold of the train, we wouldn’t be allowed on to the train.

Not one person gave up their seat or even moved their handbag from the floor for two-three year old boys.

When we went to complain we were given a small leaflet and told to post it, nobody was interested in listening then.

Please share Greater Anglia should be ashamedof this ladies treatment.

  • You’re A Bad Parent If You’ve Shamed A Bottle Feeding Mum

You’re a bad parent if you’ve shamed a bottle feeding mum.

If you think pushing a baby out of your vagina or being cut in two was all the insulting you’d endure whilst bringing your baby in to the world… you’ve got a shock coming.

    It gets worse.

As a bottle feeding and bottle fed mum, I think I can speak for all bottle feeding parents out there when I say that pushy, breastfeeding mums are like the antichrist of all motherhood.

We hate them. Loathe them. We avoid them like the plague.

    They can’t sit with us.
We don’t hate breastfeeders, not a single bit (you rock) – we just hate the breastfeeders that dislike bottle feeders because they think they’re a cut above the rest.

I’ll let you in on a little secret; if you’re already bashing another parent this early on in to motherhood, you’re already failing faster than the bottle feeder you’re already bashing.
I’m all for the “a fed baby is best” – because that’s the truth.

As an adult, honestly, can you really tell who was bottle fed or breastfed as a child?
    Absolutely not.
    Don’t be daft.

I was bottle fed from day one; I have no major health issues, I don’t lack intelligence, I rarely ever get poorly and I have an immune system built of iron.

We get really sick of hearing about it and your sodding boobs and how wonderful they are.
    Bashy breastfeeders, this is what a bottle feeding mum thinks to every shitty thing you say to her;

“If you bottle feed, your child is likely to be prone to more allergies.”
    So is a breastfed baby.
    “You’ll bond better.”
    Please, don’t go there.
“Maybe you should have just tried for a bit longer.”
    Maybe you should f*** off.
“I can give you some advice.”
    No thanks, f*** off.
    “It gets easier.”
Ever had a baby with colic? Clearly not. F*** off.
Come on. Weigh it up, guys.

Anybody would think we were actually poisoning our children with formula (that’s what the breastfeeders say anyway.)
It’s actually perfectly safe and gives our babies all they need, without worrying if we can do that ourselves – because some of us actually can’t.
Do you know how difficult it is to bottle feed?
If we could just pop a boob out as and when we felt like it, produced a load of milk or “liquid gold” like you guys, got to get our babies back off to sleep just by resting them on our boob in the middle of the night, then we would, wouldn’t we?!

Imagine washing, sterilizing, prepping, remembering to prep and all the other hassle that goes with it… I wouldn’t really say that was an easy way out at all, would you? (Let’s not forget those mad dashes for the kitchen in the middle of the night, because you forgot to take a bottle up to bed with you – they’re the worst.)

Breastfeeding your baby doesn’t make you a bad parent, bottle feeding your baby doesn’t make you a bad parent – judging mothers on their decisions if different to yours makes you a bad parent.
We’re all trying to do what’s right for our children and your opinion or approval isn’t needed, but thank you.
Keep your thoughts and judgmental views to yourself and we’ll do the same.

  • I Wish My Son Was Never Born

Call Reddit user Dislikemythird a “horrible person” — and she’ll agree with you.

According to a recent post on the social media site, Dislikemythird loves her two daughters but does not like her 3-and-a-half-year-old son “at all.”

    She explained:

It all starts with the fact that my daughters were very much planned and wanted pregnancies. My son was not. I didn’t realize I was pregnant until 16 weeks when I first felt the baby move.

    She continued:

I sobbed my eyes out when I realized I was pregnant because I didn’t want to be pregnant again, hence the birth control, and it was too late for an abortion anywhere in my country. I probably would have had one, to be honest. Both my husband and I were pretty adamant we didn’t want more babies. I hated the baby/toddler stage with my daughters and with them being 3 and 4.5 at the time, it was like having a prison sentence extended right before freedom.

The Reddit user admitted that she was finally starting to really enjoy her two oldest children and finally got on the right path in her career. So when she learned that she was pregnant with her son, it threw everything off track again.

And to make matters worse, her son never slept through the night. He suffered from reflux and colic, and she said it nearly ruined her marriage:

I can honestly say it nearly broke my husband and I’s marriage apart. At one point, we didn’t sleep in the same bed with one another for months, because we had to take shifts sleeping at a friend or sibling’s home with the girls because he screamed that badly they couldn’t sleep. We tried numerous doctors, and nothing helped, we just had to wait for him to grow out of it.

She and her husband resented their son for so much, and she admitted they even wished horrible things on his health and considered adoption at one point. But how could she explain keeping two and giving away one?

    She wrote:

I don’t want to be insensitive to anyone who has suffered a loss in this way, but I have to be honest, my husband and I both had a period where if he had of died in his sleep, we would have felt relief. At one point, I googled if we could still put him in the “baby hatches” our country has. He was too old. But again, how would we explain to everyone, including the girls, why we had a baby and then suddenly didn’t. I sobbed. I wished more than anything I realised I was pregnant earlier and could have had the abortion I wanted. I feel like my ability to bond with him was shot to hell by the fact he was just such a difficult baby. I honestly hated him for the first 18 months of his life.

Dislikemythird acknowledged on Reddit just how awful it sounded to say that she “hated” her own son and that while she loves spending time with her daughters and doing things with them, she only does things for her son because she has to:

Now he is three-and-a-half years old and even though he has now outgrown all that, and is pretty chill, I still just don’t like him. I am struggling to bond with him or even like him because I’m having trouble separating him from the memories of my marriage almost falling apart and my career being absolutely destroyed by having him and just the feelings that he was “forced” onto me by a birth control failure. My husband isn’t struggling to the same extent as I am, but has confessed he wishes our son “didn’t happen” because things were “better” before. Things have also been a lot more financially strained, and there he fact that we now have three kids to provide for and not two. Thankfully, we managed to save our marriage, but we both agree that we’d undo our son in a heartbeat if we could.

The Reddit user continued by saying she has visited two therapists since her son’s birth, and all of them simply told her to “fake it till she made it,” but that hasn’t worked in her.

Again, I am well aware I am going “mess him up” and he’ll grow up feeling like the least favorite child and all of that. I feel guilty about it and don’t want to feel this way, which is why I’m here.

Dislikemythird is hoping that by being honest about her feelings toward her son, she can get advice from someone who will make her feel differently about her son. She hates feeling this way and understands that he deserves better from her.

  • When Should You Stop Breastfeeding?

Women come under a lot of scrutiny when it comes to breastfeeding. There are those who are shamed for doing it in public, those who are corrected for doing it wrong, and those who are criticized for not doing it at all. And then there are those who continue to do it even when their child is old enough to talk in full sentences.

Davina Wright, a mother of five who lives in New Zealand, wrote a blog post for The Milk Meg about continuing to breastfeed her triplets who are now five years old.

“I have often heard, ‘oh you’re just doing it for you now, it’s not about the children,’ but in all honesty I would be happy if they weaned now,” she wrote. “I am big on letting the child decide when they are ready to wean.”

Her post raises the question about whether there should be a cut-off age for breastfeeding children.

“It’s a controversial topic in North America and Europe, for sure,” says Stefanie Carrabin, a certified lactation consultant and breastfeeding expert. “But the immunobiology benefits are huge. Anything the mother is exposed to will be processed in her body, which will then build antibodies that will be passed on through the breast milk. It’s like an ongoing vaccination.”

Health Canada recommends exclusive breastfeeding of infants up to six months old, and extends its recommendation to two years and beyond with appropriate complementary nutrition.

“People always ignore the ‘two years and beyond‘ recommendation,” Carrabin says. “It’s basically saying there are no limits.”

Breastfeeding advocates also question what we consider to be generally accepted norms when it comes to nutrition.

“Most people in our society recognize that young children drinking milk is a good idea, but there’s a bizarre shift in thinking human milk is harmful and bovine milk is better,” says Genia Stephen, a midwife and lactation consultant. “Cow’s milk is not optimally designed for humans, whereas human milk is. The immune and growth factors in breast milk change intrinsically as the child ages. Breast milk produced for a four-month-old is different than breast milk produced for a four-year-old.”

There’s a common misconception that toddlers who continue to breastfeed are less independent and “clingy.” But professionals, medical and holistic alike, are quick to quash that perception.

“The child who breastfeeds until he weans himself — usually from two to four years — is usually more independent, and more secure in his independence,” writes Dr. Jack Newman, a pediatrician and executive director of the International Breastfeeding Centre. “He has received comfort and security from the breast until he is ready to make the step himself to stop. And when a child makes that step himself, it is a milestone in his life of which he is proud.”

“Of course, breastfeeding can, in some situations, be used to foster an over-dependent relationship. But so can food or toilet training. The problem is not the breastfeeding. This is another issue.”

Experts say that it all boils down to personal preference. And it’s a decision that women and their children should be able to make without judgement or criticism.

“The looks and comments that mothers who are breastfeeding their toddler children in public receive are demeaning,” says Carrabin. “That’s not about the mother, it’s about other people and their reactions.”
