Tubes – real name Peter Dale – revealed on the Mail’s podcast Soccer A-Z in September that he and his partner Amy were expecting their first child together.

He took to Instagram on Tuesday evening to confirm that Amy had given birth to a baby girl and confirmed her name in a heartwarming post.

Alongside a photo of his baby daughter, Tubes wrote: ‘Mollie Rose Dale – Welcome to the World. Our hearts have never been so full.’

Back in September, Tubes admitted that he was ‘slightly nervous’ ahead of the birth, but said he ‘can’t wait to be a dad’.

The die-hard Chelsea fan also joked that he would do everything in his power to ensure his child did not go on to support Tottenham

‘Deadly disease caused by trendy stone worktops has destroyed my health’: Father of two, 49, reveals agonising diagnosis

    [ad_1]

A father of two who developed an incurable lung disease after making trendy quartz kitchen worktops has told how he was forced to quit his job to ‘save his life’.

Ryan Fenton, from Ipswich in Suffolk, was employed as a stonemason to make the popular counters in 2016 and recalls how extraction systems at his workplace designed to remove dust were ‘ineffective’.

Dust, he now knows, was slowly destroying his lungs with very breath.

The 49-year-old’s body has been ravaged by silicosis, a terrifying disease that causes internal scarring and inflammation of the lungs — which medics say is irreversible and could kill him.

Mr Fenton, who quit the industry last year, is one of the few public faces of a scandal which has already killed two British stoneworkers, with at least 26 others rendered severely ill.

The youngest case was in a stonemason aged just 24.

However, doctors have warned these known cases are likely just the tip of the iceberg.

Such is the concern, that medics and unions who represent more than 5.5 million workers have called on the Government to stop the manufacturing of quartz in Britain to ‘prevent hundreds of deaths’.

Ryan Fenton, from Ipswich in Suffolk, was employed as a stonemason to make the popular counters in 2016 and recalls how extraction systems at his workplace designed to remove dust were ‘ineffective’

Expensive quartz worktops are made from one of the hardest minerals on earth which, when processed, results in the release of potentially harmful particles of fine dust

Expensive quartz worktops are made from one of the hardest minerals on earth which, when processed, results in the release of potentially harmful particles of fine dust

Popular quartz worktops are made from 90 per cent ground quartz, and 10 per cent resins and pigments.

When processed into their final worktop form this results in the release of potentially harmful particles of fine silica dust being released into the air.

Cheaper than granite or marble, the worktops have become a staple of kitchen revamps, but workers are paying the price.

Mr Fenton said his job was to use an angle grinder to cut slabs, making room for sinks and hobs to fit the dimensions of customers’ homes and businesses.

But the work was ‘very dusty’ and despite wearing marks — as he was advised by his employer — they did not prevent him breathing in silica dust.

His clothes, hands, face and hair were also often left coated in dust from the work, he claimed.

Mr Fenton had his condition caught early by chance after suffering a transient ischaemic attack — also known as a mini stroke — in December 2022, caused by undiagnosed type 2 diabetes

When doctors carried out a scan to assess the damage, they spotted unusual scarring on his lungs.

The 49-year-old’s body has been ravaged by silicosis, a terrifying disease that causes internal scarring and inflammation of the lungs — which medics say is irreversible and could kill him

Puzzled by this his medics referred to specialists at Royal Brompton Hospital in west London

A biopsy showed Mr Fenton — who has two daughters, aged 22 and 20 — had silicosis and he said he was told by medics the condition was related to his work with engineered stone.

Silicosis leaves the lungs at increased risk of infection, reduced their overall effectiveness, and can potentially cause them to fail.

Struggling to breathe can also put a potentially deadly strain on the heart.

Silicosis isn’t a new disease, it has blighted the lives of miners, builders and stonemasons in the UK before.

Britain’s workplace health and safety watchdog the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimate 12 people are killed each year as a consequence of silicosis exposure.

However, HSE says this is likely an underestimate.

Mr Fenton said he was also advised to stop working with the stone in a bid to slow the progression of the disease or quartz could destroy his lungs.

Now, working in adult social care, he claimed he has been forced to take an annual pay cut of around £8,000.

He added: ‘It is a massive blow that, just because my job involved cutting engineered stone worktops, I have had to give up well-paid work that I enjoyed.

‘It is disappointing that I was allowed to work in these conditions with a product known to have the potential to be so dangerous.

‘I am lucky that I was diagnosed early enough to give myself a better chance of avoiding developing a much worse condition, but I am very worried that others out there work in similar conditions and face the same dangers.

‘I want to share my story because action needs to be taken to stop people working with engineered stone in these hazardous conditions.

‘I don’t want other people to have to go through the turmoil of having to give up their job and worrying about what the future holds for them.’

In October 2024, Mr Fenton also instructed solicitor Leigh Day to investigate his case.

Leigh Day partner, Ewan Tant said: ‘It is deeply concerning that as result of the conditions my client alleges he was subjected to whilst working with engineered stone, he has had to take the difficult decision to give up a job he enjoyed.

Mr Marzec, who was originally from Poland, worked for several engineered stone manufacturers in north London and Hertfordshire since 2012. He was diagnosed with silicosis in April 2024

‘He now faces an uncertain future because of his condition.

‘No-one should be forced to take such decisions and face such uncertainty simply because they go to work.

‘We remain deeply concerned that, without action being taken to address the dangers of working with engineered stone without adequate protection, more and more people will be placed in Ryan’s situation.’

In December, father-of-three and stonemason Marek Marzec, 48, died after months of receiving end-of-life care for silicosis.

Mr Marzec said the dust he inhaled while cutting trendy quartz kitchen worktops has left him ‘unable to breathe’ and ‘in terrible pain’.

Meanwhile last May, Wessam al Jundi, 28, died in hospital while waiting for a lung transplant in what is believed to be the first confirmed death from quartz worktop-related silicosis.

  • Parents Seek ₹1.08 Crore From Park Over Daughter’s Death; Court Dismisses Plea Over No Ticket

Parents Seek ₹1.08 Crore From Park Over Daughter’s Death; Court Dismisses Plea Over No Ticket

    [ad_1]

Court Rejects Parents’ ₹1.08 Crore Compensation Plea as Daughter Had No Ticket. (Representative image)

A court in China has quashed a couple’s plea for compensation from a park—where their daughter tragically fell to her death, stating that the tourist site is not liable for her death as she had not purchased an entry ticket, South China Morning Post reported. The deceased, identified by the surname Gao, was a third-year student who had traveled alone to Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi province in July 2021. Ten days after she went missing, police discovered her heavily decomposed body at the base of a 50-meter cliff within the scenic zone, as reported by state broadcaster CCTV.

Initially, her parents approached the tourist site, which offered to compensate them 40,000 yuan (₹4.6 lakh). However, the couple later took the tourism company to court, demanding 950,000 yuan (₹1.08 crore) in compensation, alleging that the site had failed to ensure visitor safety.

In the final ruling issued in February, the Jiangxi court determined that the tourism company was not responsible for Gao’s death. A crucial factor in the court’s decision was that Gao had not purchased a ticket. As per the ticketing system, visitors were required to submit identification details when booking. Since she did not buy an entry pass, the court ruled that no service contract existed between her and the scenic zone. Consequently, the park was not legally obligated to ensure her safety.

The court observed that the tourist site had implemented necessary safety measures, including warning signs at entrances and near fences. It also highlighted that the spot where Gao fell was outside the designated tour route. The ruling stressed that, as an adult capable of making independent choices, Gao was responsible for assessing potential risks.

Her parents revealed that they had lost contact with her for a week after she left for Lushan Mountain, located several hundred kilometers away. Concerned about her safety, they reported her missing to the police. Although Gao initially claimed she was traveling with friends, they later discovered she had gone alone.

The court also stated that their daughter had been diagnosed with depression and had previously attempted to end her life. Before her trip, she had argued with them over her desire to leave home after completing university.

Following an investigation, police ruled out foul play and concluded that Gao had fallen to her death.

  • JD Vance mocked over ‘baby pants’ as Americans ask ‘who’s picking his clothes’ | World | News

JD Vance mocked over ‘baby pants’ as Americans ask ‘who’s picking his clothes’ | World | News

    [ad_1]

JD Vance was savagely mocked for his clothes, which critics blasted on social media as ill-fitting, while the US vice-president backed up Donald Trump during his first address to Congress.

One person wrote on X: “People might (might) listen if you got a pair of big-boy-vance pants.”

They added: “A pair that at least breaks on the foot arch and goes mid-heel, not mid-calf; just who the hell dresses you? Our local Goodwill has a better tailor on staff than whoever is throwing clothes on you.”

Vance sat behind Donald Trump during his first address to Congress. A president’s speech to Congress—even without the formal gloss of a State of the Union address—is typically a time for a call to national unity and predictable claims about the country’s strength.

But that wasn’t President Donald Trump’s plan. His speech on Tuesday night was relentlessly partisan, boasting about his election victory and criticising Democrats for failing to recognise his accomplishments.

However, the true bombshell came during the speech when Trump said he appreciates Volodymyr Zelensky’s letter saying Ukraine is ready to sign a minerals agreement “at any time” after the deal broke down last week.

The US president also said he has had “strong signals” from Russia that Moscow is ready for peace, adding: “Wouldn’t that be beautiful?”

The Ukrainian president had earlier said it is “time to make things right” with Mr Trump after a fractious meeting in the Oval Office last week and the US decision to suspend military aid to Kyiv.

The UK’s diplomatic push towards securing peace in Ukraine will continue as Defence Secretary John Healey heads to Washington on Wednesday.

In an address to Congress, Mr Trump quoted the Ukrainian leader’s words from a letter.

He read: “‘My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that is convenient for you’.”

Mr Trump added: “I appreciate that he sent this letter… We’ve had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?

“It’s time to stop this madness. It’s time to halt the killing. It’s time to end this senseless war. If you want to end wars, you have to talk to both sides.”

Formula 1 Racer Carlos Sainz and Father Star in New Hackett Campaign

    [ad_1]

    LONDON Like father, like son.

Hackett London has tapped father-and-son race car drivers, both of whom are called Carlos Sainz, for its spring 2025 ad campaign, which is set against the backdrop of a British manor and its gardens.

Photographed by Arnaldo Anaya-Lucca, and produced by Nada Marketing y Comunicación S.L., the images show the high-octane duo sharing quality moments dressed in formal and casual clothing and looking every inch the lords of the manor.

There are some nods to sport. The two take a scenic drive — although not in a race car — and play backgammon. In one image, Sainz’s son, the Formula 1 racer who joins Atlassian Williams this season, holds a cricket bat. In another, he poses with a handsome Weimaraner hunting dog.

Hackett said the men’s shared story, and representation of tradition and modernity, aligns with the brand’s values.

“This partnership builds on Hackett’s long-standing association with motor sport, creating a narrative of shared passion and personal achievement,” the brand said. “Together, father and son embody Hackett’s timeless vision, where family, heritage and style converge to craft meaningful moments.”

Looks on show include a Prince of Wales suit made from a wool-silk-linen blend, a navy blue travel suit made from fine wool, and a double-breasted pure linen waistcoat. There are also selvedge denim jeans, tassel loafers, a field jacket, and a lightweight pique blazer.

“One of the things I have inherited from my dad, apart from the love and passion for our sport, is his sense of style and taste for quality clothing,” said Sainz, adding that he can always find “a Hackett solution that feels classy, young and elegant, all at the same time.”

The senior Sainz, a Spanish rally driver and two-time winner of the World Rally Championship drivers’ title, said he cherishes “family, craftsmanship and elegance. Hackett London represents all of them. Also, having the opportunity to share this experience with my son for the first time ever is something extremely special for me.”

Sainz added that he considers himself “a classic man when it comes to my wardrobe. The brand’s approach to timeless and traditional garments with a twist of modernity makes me feel confident that I have plenty of options. It’s a perfect fit, and I really look forward to seeing what it brings.”

Hackett has been doubling down on its motor sport commitments.

As reported in December, Hackett Sport and Formula E, an open-wheel, single-seater motor sport championship for electric cars, have renewed their partnership with the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship for Season 11.

Under the deal, Hackett Sport will continue to supply uniforms and other garments to all Formula E staff, including those hosting brand activations across the new season calendar, which began in São Paulo, late last year.

Hackett, which was founded by Jeremy Hackett and Ashley Lloyd-Jennings in 1983 as a vintage clothing seller, is now owned by the Madrid-based All We Wear Group, or AWWG, which also owns Pepe Jeans London, and Façonnable.

AWWG is owned by MI Group, L Catterton and founder Carlos Ortega (who is not related to the Ortega family that owns Inditex). It is a leading platform for international brands with 3,500-plus points of sale in more than 86 countries.

  • Rising abuse from parents towards school staff in Wales ‘must stop’, says head teachers union

Rising abuse from parents towards school staff in Wales ‘must stop’, says head teachers union

    [ad_1]

More than four in five school leaders in Wales say they have been abused by parents in the past year, according to a new survey by school’s union NAHT Cymru.

The poll, conducted by the union in November 2024, highlights a rise in incidents of verbal abuse, threats, and even physical violence towards headteachers and senior staff.

Verbal abuse was the most commonly reported issue, affecting 78 per cent of respondents.

This was followed by threatening behaviour (64 per cent) and online abuse (39 per cent).

More than one in ten (12 per cent) school leaders said that they had been physically attacked.

The survey also found that discrimination was a factor in some cases, with 18 per cent of school leaders reporting racist, sexist, or homophobic abuse.

Many teaching staff said the abuse from parents had taken a toll on their mental health and had forced some to consider leaving the profession.

Worryingly, the findings suggest that cases of physical and verbal abuse against school staff has worsened in recent years.

More than four fifths (82 per cent) of school leaders said mistreatment from parents had increased in the last three years, with over a third (34 per cent) saying it had risen sharply.

Nearly a third (31 per cent) reported experiencing abuse on a monthly basis, while 14 per cent said that it occurred weekly.

One senior leader in Wales said that “nasty emails are becoming more frequent”, with staff often receiving “abusive emails from parents without any thought or balance.”

Another described “slanderous vexatious complaints which are targeted at individual members of staff.”

In response, staff at some schools across Wales have taken action, with almost a third (30%) of school leaders saying that they had banned parents from school premises in the past year.

29 per cent had reported incidents to the police whilst 35 per cent had contacted their local authority.

NAHT Cymru’s national secretary, Laura Doel, said the results show a “worrying trend whereby verbal and in extreme cases physical abuse is becoming part of the job”.

“This is simply unacceptable,” said Laura.

“It cannot be the case that school leaders are subjected to this kind of treatment and more needs to be done to protect them.”

The union is calling for local authorities to work with schools to strengthen complaints procedures and support staff facing abuse.

Paul Whiteman, NAHT’s general secretary, warned that abuse is contributing to staff leaving the profession, worsening recruitment and retention challenges in schools.

He said: “The vast majority of parents are very supportive of schools and in most cases the relationship between school and home is really positive.

“However, in recent years we have heard of a worrying increase in the amount of abuse school leaders are experiencing.

“Some of the stories we are hearing about the appalling abuse leaders and their staff are suffering from parents are almost beyond belief.

“These are dedicated professionals, who work hard day in day out to deliver a first-rate education for children in often trying circumstances.

“No-one should have to suffer this sort of abuse in their place of work.

“It causes enormous distress for school leaders, their staff, and sometimes pupils, and is even contributing to decisions by good people to leave the profession at a time schools are facing a severe recruitment and retention crisis – directly affecting the quality of education children receive.

“Where parents have concerns, worries or complaints, they of course should be able to raise these with the school, but this has to be done in a respectful manner.

“Put simply, whatever the situation, there is never an excuse for abuse.

“This also shows the importance of government treating the profession with the respect it deserves – too often teachers and leaders were publicly criticised and talked down to under previous administrations, sending completely the wrong signal.”

The union says its findings highlight the need for its No Excuse for Abuse campaign, which calls for greater protections for school leaders and staff.

Reddit user emotional post on elderly father – Reddit user emotional post on elderly father facing workplace disrespect in Delhi

    [ad_1]

A Reddit user shared the struggles of their 65-year-old father, a seasoned physics teacher, who is facing relentless disrespect at his workplace.

In a post on Reddit’s Delhi community, the user triggered a conversation about the treatment of senior educators in private institutions.

The user said, “My dad is an extremely qualified Physics educator. His only wish is to be respected, which apparently is too much to ask for in private schools. He did his MSc from IIT KP and has had a prolific teaching career spanning 30 years.”

The user then shared how his father broke down on a call: “Today, on a call with me, he broke down and told me how he’s constantly berated and insulted at his workplace. He said he couldn’t take it anymore”.

Having lost their mother a year ago, the user said, “I don’t want to lose him too. I cannot afford to lose him. He’s the only parent I have left. He’s my whole world”.

The user also detailed how financial difficulties forced them to abandon higher education to support their father. “He (the user’s father) married late, and I’m young – still studying. I do work and do some freelance writing, but it’s not enough to support our family. I couldn’t pursue higher education because I had to shoulder our family responsibilities as dad lost his job during Covid. Ever since then, I’ve been freelancing and supporting him. My brother does not help out,” the user said.

The user turned to the internet for support in the hope that they could find a teaching opportunity for their father. “If you guys need a physics teacher, my dad would love to teach. He can teach both school and college students. I’ve been teaching him how to take online classes, and he would really appreciate it.”

“Bhai (brother) kudos to your dad that he has still got the drive to impart value to our system. Will definitely share this around,” a user said, while another added, “Your dad is a gem, take care of him and tell him that you love him and are grateful to have him.”

One of the users said, “I recommend that he apply to highly-rated schools in Gurgaon, such as Kunskapskolan and Lotus Valley. These institutions actively seek qualified faculty and are willing to offer competitive compensation packages.”
