Jurors have been selected for the retrial of aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner, who are accused over the death of their baby.
Marten, 37, and Mark Gordon, 50, are charged with the manslaughter by gross negligence of their daughter Victoria and causing or allowing her death in early 2023.
On Wednesday, a panel of 20 potential jurors was selected ahead of their retrial at the Old Bailey.
Judge Mark Lucraft KC told them not to carry out any internet research and return to court on Thursday.
Jurors were told that prosecutor Tom Little KC will open the case on Monday.
The defendants, of no fixed address, have denied the charges against them.
The trial is expected to go on for up to eight weeks.

A mother has died from a mystery illness after a “last minute decision” to have arm tuck surgery in Turkey, an inquest has heard.
Anne Towlson, 58, was found dead at home having complained that her arm was “killing her” days earlier.
She was found with open wounds to her armpits and triceps.
However, a post-mortem examination to determine her cause of death was inconclusive.
In the days prior to her death, Towlson sent the Istanbul hospital that carried out the surgery a video of her “weeping and swollen” arm and was told it would be shown to a doctor – but she never received any help.
Now, a coroner has issued a stark warning to Brits about the “dangers” of travelling to Turkey for cosmetic surgery.
In a prevention of future deaths report published on Tuesday, assistant coroner for Rutland and North Leicestershire, Isobel Thistlethwaite, said Mrs Towlson had travelled to Turkey in April 2024 where she underwent a pre-planned tummy tuck and liposuction.
When she arrived at the Green Park Hospital in Pendic, Istanbul, she was told she could have an arm tuck surgery as well, and agreed to the procedure in a “last minute decision”, her inquest heard.
Immediately after her surgery, Mrs Towlson complained that her “right arm was hurting” and her “compression garments were too tight”.
Her right hand was said to have “swelled up like a balloon and was seeping a clear liquid”, the inquest was told.

She stayed in hospital for three days before returning to a hotel where she found she was leaking a “yellow and slightly odorous fluid” from her arms which would “stain the hotel pillows”, the inquest heard.
Mrs Towlson, who was using WhatsApp to communicate with the Turkish medics, returned to the hospital twice where she was given antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, painkillers and a cream to take with her, the inquest was told.
She flew home to Manchester Airport on May 3, nine days after the surgery.
From May 4 to the time she died, her internet search history included “infected stitches symptoms”, and “armpit yeast infection symptoms”, the inquest heard.
On May 7, she sent a video of her arm and armpit with a “sticky yellow and white pus present” to the hospital.
“They responded saying that they would show the video to a doctor, that was the last WhatsApp communication received from the hospital,” the coroner’s report said.
On May 11, Mrs Towlson was seen by her neighbour and was said to be communicating with her daughter.
She told her daughter her “tummy was ok” but her arm was “killing her”, the inquest heard.
Six days later, the mother was found dead at her home.
“Police attended the scene and took photographs which clearly show the tummy tuck wound healing nicely but show open wounds to Mrs Towlson’s armpits and triceps, her right arm was said to be weeping and swollen,” the report said.
“The surgery to both arms remained unhealed.”
Her inquest was unable to secure any information from the Turkish hospital, coroner Ms Thistlethwaite said.
“We have no information about whether any independent inquiries were made either by the company who organised Mrs Towlson’s trip to Turkey for surgery, or the Turkish Hospital itself as to whether Mrs Towlson was fit for surgery,” she said.
“We have not been able to secure her medical records so have no understanding of what exactly the surgery consisted of, or what post-operative care and treatment was provided.
“On the balance of probabilities, Mrs Towlson was not given enough time to properly consider this decision,” the coroner added.
Outlining her concerns for other Britons considering travelling to Turkey for cosmetic surgery, Ms Thistlethwaite said: “British citizens are travelling abroad for significant and serious surgical operations with seemingly little in the way of follow up and no way to return easily to the operating Hospital if they encounter complications once they are back in the UK.
“This is not only dangerous but could place a significant burden on the NHS.”
A copy of the coroner’s report was sent to Green Park Hospital in Turkey, as well as the British Association of Aesthetics and Plastic Surgeons.
A woman who began getting tattoos aged 18 has gone viral as she announced her “parents were right” and she had begun the process of having them removed.
Jaycee, now 23, lives in Chicago and works as an esthetician, and is planning to remove 14 of her 21 tattoos, many of which she got to honor her family and her favorite childhood movies and books.
“Others that I am removing don’t have as much meaning,” she told Newsweek, including some she got simply “for aesthetic purposes, growing out of them quickly.”
While she considers her tattoos well done, she has decided to remove them because “the majority that I got between the ages of 18 to 21 don’t really resemble who I am as a person anymore.
“And even if they do still align with me, the older I’ve gotten the more I wish I didn’t get tattoos covering my arms.”
Jaycee shared a video to her TikTok account @moonlady444 on March 1, showing her drinking from a bottle of water with her arms covered up after a laser session, and wrote: “Me every 8 weeks because my parents were right and I do regret the tattoos I got at 18.”
Drinking water oxygenates the blood and helps the circulation of white blood cells, which assists the removal of tattoo ink after each laser treatment for tattoo removal, according to Think Again Laser Clinic.

Jaycee told Newsweek the laser treatment, while going well, is a “long process,” and will take around three years to get each of her 14 tattoos completely removed, but “in the end, it’ll be worth it for me.”
Her video, viewed over 2.4 million times, sparked a big reaction, with commenters debating their own tattoos and whether they should have waited until they were older to get them.
One user admitted they “regret every single one” of theirs, but another hit back: “Can’t relate, they tell a story and give perspective on different stages of my life.”
“My mom forbid me to get a tattoo at 18, I’m so grateful now, I would have a Harry Potter tattoo now,” another admitted.
And one admitted their “only tattoo regret is not thinking about placement more because I used up prime space early on.”
Not all of Jaycee’s ink is getting removed, as she told Newsweek: “I am keeping my smaller and hidden tattoos—my dad’s name on my ankle, small writing on my ribcage, and one small candlestick on my inner bicep from my favorite childhood book.”

As for other 18-year-olds considering their first tattoos, she acknowledged it’s “such a personal preference” and tattoo “regret isn’t experienced by everyone.”
“However I do think frontal lobe development is a real thing. I am 23 now and regret over half of my tattoos. They’re well-done tattoos, they’re pretty, I just don’t want them on me anymore.”
According to research published by the National Library of Medicine, the frontal lobe matures during adolescence and is fully accomplished around the age of 25. The frontal lobe, also known as the prefrontal cortex, is involved in cognitive functioning including decision-making, personality and behavior, and impulsivity.
“Personal style changes and a lot of maturity happens in your early 20s and late teens,” Jaycee went on, clarifying that she does not want to “stop people from getting tattoos,” but “my advice would be to start small, meaningful, and slow.”
“Just because you’re able to get tattoos doesn’t mean you should get them all at once. I wish I took more time with them, because they’re addictive!”

Baby health is not impacted by the use of tocolytic drugs after 30 weeks’ gestation in pregnant patients with increased preterm birth risk, according to a recent study published in The Lancet.1
Understanding preterm birth and its risks
Preterm birth occurs in 1 in 10 pregnancies, increasing the risk of severe short- and long-term morbidity and mortality among infants. This has led to tocolytic drug use after 24 weeks’ gestation and before 34 weeks’ gestation as a standardized treatment among pregnant women with increased preterm birth risk to prolong pregnancy.1
“Whether prolongation of pregnancy by using tocolytic drugs actually benefits the health of the baby has not been substantiated by research until now,” said Martijn Oudijk, professor of prevention and treatment of premature birth at Amsterdam UMC.1
Advances in preterm birth detection
Detecting and treating preterm birth has been linked to decreased neonatal morbidity and mortality.2 A 2024 study found reduced complications when using the PreTRM test prevention strategy to predict preterm birth risk. This blood-based biomarker test evaluated proteins in the blood linked to preterm birth, improving risk prediction.
The PreTRM test may be used for risk prediction in patients between 18- and 20-weeks’ gestation. In the trial of adult pregnant patients, significant reductions in neonatal morbidity and mortality were observed. These included reduced hospital and neonatal intensive care unit length of stay, and reduced risks of preterm birth and spontaneous preterm birth.3
Study on tocolytics and neonatal outcomes
Investigators conducted an international, multicentre, randomised, double-blind, superiority trial across 26 hospitals in the Netherlands, England, and Ireland to evaluate the impact of tocolytics on neonatal outcomes.3 Participants included women aged at least 18 years with singleton or twin pregnancy at risk of preterm birth from 30 to 33 weeks’ gestation.
These patients were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive either intravenous atosiban or placebo. Co-primary outcomes included perinatal mortality, defined as stillbirth or death through 28 days’ postpartum, and 6 severe neonatal morbidities.3
Study findings and key results
There were 752 participants included in the intention-to-treat analysis, 375 of whom were assigned to the atosiban group and 377 to the placebo group. Eight percent and 9% of these patients, respectively, reported a primary outcome, with infant death occurring in 0.7% and 0.9%, respectively.3
This indicated a relative risk of 0.73 for infant death, highlighting no significant difference. Additionally, no cases of infant death were linked to the study drug. There were also no significant differences in maternal adverse events between groups, and no cases of maternal death were reported.3
Conclusion
These results indicated no superiority from atosiban over placebo for improving neonatal outcomes among patients with increased preterm birth risk. Investigators recommended reducing practice variation across countries and providing evidence-based treatment to patients at risk of preterm birth.3
“The purpose of delaying childbirth is to give newborns a better start and improve their health,” said Oudijk.1 “Premature birth often has a medical cause, such as an infection or problems with the placenta. A prolonged stay in the uterus longer might actually be harmful.”

The two remained trapped overnight and were eventually rescued after helicopter crew located them “stranded on a shallow ledge and hoisted them to safety” around 6:30 a.m. on Feb. 17. Teams with Washington County Sheriff Search and Rescue “worked through the night, and into the early morning hours” in locating and rescuing the pair, the department said.
Video footage from the incredible rescue shows the man frantically waving at the helicopter before rescue officials airlift them from the canyon. Officials first hoist the child to safety before then rescuing the father.
“In a twist of fate, the hikers found a backpack left behind by another hiker previously rescued from the same area,” the news release said. “Inside were food, water, and emergency blankets that the two were able to utilize.”
Video footage from the rescue shows the two wrapped in blankets and an official can be heard saying: “They’re covered up in blankets.” Temperatures dipped to a low of 34 degrees and 37 degrees on Feb. 16 and 17 in Snow Canyon, according to AccuWeather.
It is not immediately clear how the two ended up stranded on the cliffside and who alerted authorities of the incident. Washington County Search and Rescue did not immediately respond to USA TODAY’s request for more information.
Located close to Utah’s border with Arizona and Nevada, Snow Canyon State Park is about 315 miles south of Salt Lake City. Activities at the park include hiking, biking, camping, wildlife viewing, stargazing and junior ranger programs.

On World Book Day, Thursday 6 March, parents with very young children are being reminded that reading regularly to their children can support the early development of babies’ brains from birth to two years old.
This is just one of the tips and bits of advice parents can access through Hungry Little Minds, a campaign that aims to help parents as they navigate their child’s early development.
Run by Staffordshire County Council, the campaign gives new parents the advice and guidance they need to help their babies develop. It demonstrates to parents that they don’t need specific skills, time, or toys to help their baby’s brain grow. Instead, simple everyday interactions and activities can make a significant difference.
By signing up, parents can access personalised emails with activities tailored to the baby’s age, links to local groups and support, and reminders for health checks. It’s designed to empower parents with the knowledge and confidence to support their child’s early communication development.
New Staffordshire mum, Bethan Wade signed up to the Hungry Little Minds emails in June 2024, she said:
“Being a new parent has been tricky, there is so much information out there and sometimes it’s not straight to the point. When I heard about the Hungry Little Minds emails, I signed up thinking this could help me. Signing up to the campaign has given me access to so much advice and guidance on how to help develop his mind.
“Although Parker might not be talking yet, he chats away in his own language, turning the pages of his books and enjoying the pictures as we talk through what they are. His favourite book is anything that has textures or animals in them. I would highly recommend anyone with a baby to sign up.”
Mark Sutton, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council said:
“Hungry Little Minds is all about helping parents to support their children with their speech and language skills at home. The emails give parents information and resources to make sure their child is developing and signposts them to support if they have concerns.
“We want every child in Staffordshire to have the best start in life and this campaign is a fantastic way for parents to support their child’s early development and set them up for a great life.”

Ella’s new agent Paula Karaiskos has confirmed the news, saying she’s ‘proud’ to now represent the 24-year-old in the UK.
Announcing the news on social media, Paula wrote: ‘She has an advertising campaign launching this spring, as well as a new film this summer. Watch this space!’

Speaking to Spanish magazine Mujerhoy, she added: ‘But then I became interested in it again in a different way, more out of admiration for creativity.’
Despite being plagued with heartbreak and loss throughout her upbringing, Ella has continued to prevail – and she has become a strong force in numerous industries.
Ella began her career in 2009, just after Jett’s death – when she landed a role in the movie Old Dogs (alongside her parents, Robin Williams, Matt Dillon, Justin Long, Seth Green, Rita Wilson, Dax Shepard, Lori Loughlin, and Bernie Mac).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, she told her dad she wanted to be in a movie at age seven, and he made it happen by pitching her to various directors.
She then went on to star in crime thriller The Poison Rose in 2019, which her dad also acted in, before she landed the starring role in the film Get Lost.
Described by Deadline as a ‘re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland,’ Ella played Alicia, ‘who goes on a wildly magical trip into the wonderland that is Budapest.’

‘In our house in Maine, we have this stage area set up with a little red curtain and my friends and I would perform there… We did [everything] from the Hulk to Christmas shows and one year we all played different Housewives of Maine.’
She also told the outlet that having her dad on set ‘helped so much’ since it was ‘so comforting.’
‘He’s the best mentor ever,’ she gushed. ‘When I have any questions, my mom and dad have the best advice, and that’s amazing… I love that it’s sort of the family business.
‘Whatever I would have chosen to do they would have supported me. But they’re really proud of me for [acting] and that makes me proud too.’

Fifteen years later, Morbid Destitution of Covenant remains just as crushing as the day it was released. A towering pillar of cavernous death metal, this album solidified Father Befouled as true heirs to the Incantation-drenched legacy of darkness and decay.
With raw yet deliberate riffs, a funeral-paced atmosphere, and an all-encompassing sense of rot, it continues to suffocate in the best way possible. The vinyl edition has long been sold out.
