Things Parents Should Know About Their Kids’ Teachers

    [ad_1]

There’s no doubt that our education system is in crisis. There are dozens upon dozens of issues we could discuss and still barely scratch the surface of everything going sideways in our schools. And when it comes to teachers, they’re already difficult job is rapidly marching toward impossible, and the breakdown of relations between teachers and parents is one of the chief causes.

A teacher shared five things she wishes parents knew:

Everywhere you look there’s a new story about misbehaved kids, crisis-level literacy skills, behavioral issues that have gone far past unmanageable to, oftentimes, actively dangerous. And all too often these days, it is teachers who get blamed for all of it.

One teacher on TikTok who teaches fourth grade math and science has attempted to bridge this gap by sharing the five things she wishes parents realized about her job and how it affects their kids.

Ultimately, what’s going on in our schools is a systemic issue resulting from poor governance, and teachers and parents need to be uniting to work TOGETHER to get through it instead of being pitted against each other. All that parent-teacher conflict is exactly how politicians of both parties have been able to distract from the fact that they categorically refuse to do anything to actually fix our education system. These five perspectives might help bridge that gap so parents and teachers can create a united front.

    1. Most teachers use their own money for classroom decor and supplies

“Have you seen a government-funded classroom?” the teacher asked. “They don’t look anything like what you see in TikTok videos and YouTube videos.” When it comes to all the decor and much of the supplies that make a classroom a welcoming, dynamic environment, she had just one question for parents: “Who do you think pays for all of that?”

Despite our ever increasing taxes, schools are so underfunded that most teachers go out-of-pocket for all that stuff — and the real kick in the teeth is that come tax time, they’re only allowed to write off $300 of it. Yes, just $300 — which is not even a fraction of what it costs to outfit a classroom, especially for elementary students. (My best friend regularly spends in the four-figures each fall for her kindergarteners.)

“I wish parents knew how much we invest in our classrooms so that their children can benefit from it,” the teacher went on to say. Instead, they tend to complain when they’re asked to help with supplies.

    2. How much of a teacher’s work is unpaid and after hours

“I wish parents knew how much unpaid labor teachers put into preparing their lesson plans and activities for students,” the teacher said. That includes during those summer breaks that parents love to hold over teachers’ heads, by the way.

I lived with a high school science teacher for seven years and there was hardly ever a night in front of the TV that he didn’t spend grading papers or lesson planning the entire time — from the moment he finished dinner until the moment he finally went to bed. Few of us would ever agree to that for any amount of money, let alone what teachers are paid.

    3. The amount of advocacy teachers do for their students

Whether it’s bad grades or incidents of bullying, the teacher said she and her colleagues are constantly accused of not “having their students’ backs” and being part of the problem. “They have no idea how much of a voice we give to our students in staff meetings… to make sure that their well being is at the forefront of what we do every single day.”

    4. Teachers need parents’ support

The fact of the matter is that we live under a governmental system that has consistently devalued and defunded education for decades. Those working in our schools are pushing boulders uphill every single day because of it, and they simply cannot do it alone.

“We need parents to be a voice for their students just as much as teachers are a voice for their students,” she said. “We do not have endless amounts of time to call, chat, email.” And she says much of the stuff that takes up so much teacher time could be handled at home.

Granted that’s a tall order for many parents — most are under untenable workloads. But your kids’ teachers are already working consistent overtime, both at school and at home. Something’s gotta give, and until we stop voting for people who continue to enable this punishing system, parents have to share some of the load. There are only so many hours in a day.

    5. Teachers get just as overwhelmed and overstimulated as students

“We are human, we break,” the teacher said, which, combined with the staggering amount of overtime they work, is why they get the summers off — summers they usually spend part of working “We need for you to give us a break and be understanding, because again, we are human,” she said. And she urged parents to shift their mindsets toward viewing teachers as collaborators, not adversaries or service providers.

“Together, we can make this experience momentous for your students and for our students,” she said. “If we work together.” And in this new era we’ve just entered into, that is more true than ever.

  • Danny Jones’ estranged father Alan ‘quits his radio show following a row with colleagues over his son’s drunken kiss with Maura Higgins’

Danny Jones’ estranged father Alan ‘quits his radio show following a row with colleagues over his son’s drunken kiss with Maura Higgins’

    [ad_1]

Danny Jones‘ estranged father Alan has reportedly quit his radio show after a row with his colleagues over his son’s drunken kiss with Maura Higgins.

The married McFly star, 38, hit the headlines last week when footage emerged that showed him sharing a kiss with the Love Island star at a BRIT Awards after party, while a second video shows the pair reportedly drinking wine together until 6am.

Now, sources are claiming that Alan is ‘deeply upset’ over comments his colleagues have made about Danny’s behaviour at the radio station where he works.

Alan is a presenter on Fresh Radio Spain, in Benidorm, and he hosts a three-hour slot on the station, five days a week.

But a source has told The Sun that after Alan discovered collegues labelled Danny a ‘pig’ following his kiss with Maura, he’s quit his job at the station.

A source said: ‘Danny’s dad is refusing to go back on air on his radio show, and furiously ranted at station staff after two of his co-presenters were mocking his son live on air.

‘He’s been telling people that Danny is going through a marriage crisis, and so it’s upsetting to then have his colleagues talking about it behind his back.

‘After finding out his co-presenters called his son a ”pig” for his kiss with Maura Higgins, it’s been a hugely upsetting time for Alan, who loved his time presenting Fresh up until that point.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Danny Jones and Fresh Radio Spain for comment.

Alan previously said that he and Danny have not spoken for 18 years, and the singer has never visited his father in Spain, where he moved to in 2016.

In an interview with MailOnline last year, Alan, 72, said he believes a bitter divorce from Danny’s mother Kathy tarnished his relationship with his son, who he described as a ‘lovely lad’ with a ‘heart of gold’.

Alan said: ‘It should have been a time where the marriage got a bit closer, but it didn’t.

‘I can’t explain why but it didn’t, so we had two very bad years, and in fact, Danny saw this with his sister and they wrote a song about it… and then I met Sharon and that was it.’

Danny was 19 when Alan walked out on the family in 2005, and has previously revealed how he sought therapy for anxiety over the incident.

Speaking on White Wine Question Time in 2022, he said: ‘I had a massive bout of anxiety when I was 19, when my dad left.

‘It’s hard for a kid because you crave that [stability] and you miss it.’

On Sunday, a new report suggested Danny’s wife Georgia has issued a final warning in crisis talks about their marriage amid fears that a third video could leak of the night.

A source told the The Mirror‘Everyone would understand why Danny and his wife have been quiet. They are likely working through various discussions from the first video that was released alone. With this second video, Danny needs to now speak out.

‘Danny’s career should be halted at this point and he should be big enough to now speak out to everyone and explain what has happened and take some accountability.

‘This is unfair on his wife, who seems to have put the family and their marriage first. Who knows if another video will emerge, but being honest is now the only way that this has a chance of resolving itself’.

Maura and Danny reportedly stayed up until 6am drinking wine after their ‘drunken kiss’ at a BRIT Awards afterparty.

It was claimed the pair then headed in separate taxis to a Sony party at Nobu Hotel in Marylebone, where they allegedly ‘knocked back wine until 6am’.

An onlooker told The Sun: ‘Danny and Maura seemed to be enjoying their night of partying and had no plans to call it a night.

‘They were knocking back wine at the Nobu from 4am and seemed keen to carry on. They weren’t seen leaving before 6am.’

The publication also claimed that Maura and Danny were seen ‘chatting intimately and laughing’ as they continued the party.

Reports of Danny’s ‘drunken kiss’ with Maura has reportedly been a ‘slap in the face’ for his wife of over 10 years, Georgia.

In the wake of the scandal, she has apparently made a pledge about her marriage and her future with the rocker.

A source told The Mirror: ‘She’s been an incredible partner to him so this feels very unfair. But Georgia is a strong woman, she won’t let it ruin what they have.’

The source went on to reveal that Danny and Maura regret their behaviour and have insisted that the ‘kiss’ was ‘innocent’.

They said: ‘Danny and Maura insist it was totally innocent and nothing meaningful. They got on really well in the jungle and it’s just foolish that they let themselves get caught up in something after a big party night, especially so publicly.’

Danny and his wife Georgia, a former Miss World, married in 2014 after meeting in 2009 at a Miss London event and share seven-year old son Cooper together.

Danny and Maura became friends after starring in the most recent series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and stayed connected on Instagram since the show ended last December.

Danny has even publicly shown his admiration for Maura by liking one of her sexy posts, which was shared in January, and pictured the influencer dressed in a black bra and leopard print dress.

The image, captioned ‘Ravenous’ by the influencer, showed Maura flaunting her slim frame in the figure-hugging outfit, posing with her arm outstretched across a wooden table.

Neither Georgia nor Danny have spoken in public since the ‘kiss’, with Georgia even cancelling a planned appearance at The Baby Show this weekend.

Teenage boy, 17, died of sepsis while mother waited eight hours for a call back from NHS 111, inquest hears

    [ad_1]

A 17-year-old boy died of sepsis while his mother waited eight gruelling hours for a call back from NHS 111, an inquest heard today.

Cyrus Perry’s mother Hayley said the death of her son was preventable and it would haunt her for the rest of her life.

The teenager fell ill at home in Sturminster Marshall, Dorset, on June 7, 2023. He was struggling to eat, felt sick, had a headache, temperature and dizziness.

His mother called the NHS 111 service at 10.38pm.

The inquest heard the call handler asked her some questions and then advised Mrs Perry to get him to hospital ‘within the hour’ after following the NHS pathways system.

But she told the health advisor he was too ill and she could not safely get him down the stairs and to the car.

The advisor said they would get a clinician to call back.

The hearing heard the phone call should have been made within 20 minutes but it wasn’t until 6.30am that the NHS clinician contacted Mrs Perry.

Mrs Perry said she put the bed cover over her poorly son and a sick bucket next to him and told him she would return when 111 called back.

When the phone rang at 6.30am she went into Cyrus’ bedroom to find him dead.

She said: ‘I shouted on the phone “oh my god, he’s dead.” I was shouting why did you not send anyone?’

A post mortem examination revealed he died from sepsis and group A strep.

Mrs Perry said the death of her son was preventable and she felt ‘let down’ by the system.

She added that Cyrus’ twin brother Reuben was angry at her and the system for ‘taking away his soul mate.’

She said: ‘I have concerns about NHS 111, I feel the death was preventable. I feel let down by NHS 111, I clearly informed them Cyrus was too unwell to get to hospital.

‘This will haunt me for the rest of my life, I put my faith and trust in the system.’

A jury inquest into Cyrus’ death began today in Bournemouth.

The hearing heard he had long-term health conditions – lupus, autism and arthritis – and had an operation to fit a grommet and remove his adenoids in April 2023.

He had been ‘more consistently ill’ from May 29 onwards when the family got home from a holiday at Butlins Minehead and by June 7 his health had further deteriorated.

In a statement, Mrs Perry said: ‘He did not want to go to the GP. I said we cannot go on like this, I’m going to call someone even if we have an argument, I knew I needed some help.

‘I told them I could not get him to hospital as he was too unwell. I’m 5ft tall and Cyrus is 6ft 2in. They said I would have to wait for a clinician to review and call back.

‘Cyrus said he just wanted to go to bed. I put the bed cover over him and the sick bucket next to him and said I would come in when 111 called back.

‘I thought they would be busy and we would get some rest before they called.. I went to bed around 12.30am.’

Mrs Perry did not see it until later in the morning, but Cyrus had text her at 3.30am saying he was feeling worse.

She said Cyrus and his twin brother had never spent a day apart and he is now having counselling.

She said: ‘He is often angry towards me and really towards the system that has taken away his soul mate.’

Dorset area coroner Brendan Allen told the jury Mrs Perry should have had a call back within 20 minutes, by just after 11pm.

He said: ‘The clinician would phone back within 20 minutes of the call. That time frame was not communicated to Mrs Perry, she didn’t know when to expect a call back, just that she would get one.’

    The inquest continues.

Gisele Bündchen, Joaquim Valente Step Out As Parents For First Time

    [ad_1]

Gisele Bündchen and Joaquim Valente are soaking up the sun.

One month after welcoming their baby, the couple stepped out for the first time as new parents for a relaxing day on a boat in Miami, Florida.

For the outing, the supermodel donned a cheetah print one-piece bathing suit and a black skirt while the jiu-jitsu instructor seemed to be tasked with driving the boat, standing shirtless by the wheel with a towel draped around his neck. Also joining them for the ride? Gisele’s 12-year-old daughter Vivian, who she shares with ex-husband Tom Brady. (Gisele and Tom are also parents to son Benjamin, 15.)

Gisele and Joaquim’s love story began one year after she ended her 13-year marriage to the former NFL quarterback in 2022.

It’s “the death of my dream,” the fashion icon said of her divorce in a 2023 Vanity Fair cover story. “It’s tough because you imagine your life was going to be a certain way, and you did everything you could, you know? I believed in fairy tales when I was a kid. I think it’s beautiful to believe in that. I mean, I’m so grateful I did.”

The couple got married in June 2024 in a Rhode Island ceremony, one year after the San Francisco 49ers running back got down on one knee.

    They began dating in 2019.

Throughout their relationship, the “Culpo Sisters” star spoke candidly about her plans to have children — and her fertility fears due to endometriosis.

“I want to have kids, but I want to make sure that I can,” she said in a 2022 episode of her family’s reality show. “It could be really hard for me to have babies.”

She explained, “Endometriosis can affect your fertility in a lot of different ways. You can have endometrial tissue growing near or on your ovaries, it can affect the quality of your eggs, scar your fallopian tubes.

“There is so much that I don’t know about what’s going to happen in the future with that condition, and I worry all the time about my timeline,” Culpo continued at the time. “I feel like I have to have kids ASAP.”

Later that year, she clarified that McCaffrey was “on the same page about having kids.”

Culpo noted that the “timeline [was] … not in the foreseeable future” due to her partner’s career.

“He is completely and totally focused on football, and he should be,” the “Masked Singer” alum told viewers. “He’s not ready to have kids. It’s not really an option.

“I always thought that by 30 I’d be married and have kids,” she added. “I’m definitely the kind of person who likes to have a plan. Right now, I have no plan because I have so many question marks, so I’m freaking out.”

Nalgonda: Tension erupted at the Nalgonda District Court on Monday after family members of T. Sravan Kumar, the sixth convict sentenced to life imprisonment in his nephew Perumalla Pranay honour killing case, tried to enter the court.

Sravan Kumar, brother of T. Maruthi Rao, the primary accused who died by suicide in 2020, received a life sentence for his involvement in the case.

Shortly after, Sravan’s wife Padmaja, daughter Spoorthi, and son Abhishek tried to enter the premises. Police officers stationed at the gate stopped them, leading to heated arguments.

An emotional Spoorthi asserted her father’s innocence, insisting he played no part in Pranay’s murder. She challenged the police openly, demanding evidence proving his involvement, and accused authorities of coercing her father into signing blank documents.

Police personnel intervened, cautioning Spoorthi against making provocative remarks. Following police intervention, Sravan’s family members left the area in their vehicle.

  • Why more parents are sleeping separately during the toddler years

Why more parents are sleeping separately during the toddler years

    [ad_1]

When Rabeeh Moudallal, a family and lifestyle creator on Instagram, posted a video about sleeping separately from his wife since having kids, parents everywhere felt that in their souls. The video, which has now racked up over 1.5 million views, sheds light on a reality many couples experience but rarely talk about: sometimes, the best way to survive the baby and toddler years is to sleep in separate rooms.

    “It’s not a relationship problem—it’s a survival strategy”

In the video, Moudallal explains how he sleeps on a mattress in his toddler’s room to keep her from waking the baby, while his wife takes shifts with their infant. Their nighttime conversations? Reduced to texts from different rooms.

“Since having our second baby, it feels like we’ve just adopted one kid each,” he says, summing up what so many parents go through in the early years.

The comments section = A whole support group

If you thought this setup was rare, think again. The comment section exploded with parents sharing their own experiences.

    • @lucywestlake92: “I always say to hubby, we’ve got years to be together, the kids need us at the moment. It won’t be forever ☺️”
    • @thebreastfeedingmentor: “We’re allllllll in the same boat, hun! (But not the same bed!) 😅”
    • @thebirthuprising: “We play music beds most nights. I remember being really scared as a kid at night and knowing I wasn’t allowed to get out of bed so just used to lay awake frightened. Never wanted that for my kids, they know they can sleep wherever they feel safe. It changes night to night, we are all cool with it ❤️”
    • @saltanat.bora: “I’ve had five kids over 12 years and have slept separately the entire time. Making sure everyone gets sleep is absolutely a priority. It helps with managing toddlers/babies, sick kids etc. But clearly, it’s not the ‘natural contraception’ you think it is bc here we are, five kids later 🤣🤣”

Some parents say they haven’t slept in the same bed for years, while others swear by a giant family bed. A few lucky ones manage to keep their kids in separate rooms, but most admit to playing “musical beds” throughout the night.

Related: One mama’s scientific case for co-sleeping

Why parents are doing this (and why it makes sense)

Sleeping separately was once seen as a relationship red flag. Now, it’s just reality for exhausted parents. With little structural support—like paid parental leave and affordable childcare—parents are left figuring out what works for them.

And the reality is, sleep deprivation is no joke. Studies show that parents of young children can lose up to six years of quality sleep, and fragmented rest can impact everything from mental health to work performance.

    The trend is growing:

    • A 2023 survey from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found that 35% of U.S. adults report sleeping in separate rooms at some point to improve sleep.
    • The term “sleep divorce,” referring to couples who choose separate sleeping arrangements to improve sleep quality, has gained attention in recent years. A 2023 survey by the Sleep Foundation found that 1.4% of U.S. adults sleep separately from their partners, and 52.9% of those individuals reported improved sleep quality as a result.

Experts say the key isn’t where you sleep, but how rested you feel. Dr. Wendy Troxel, a sleep expert and author of Sharing the Covers, explains: “Couples need to reframe sleep as a health necessity, not a measure of relationship success. If separate sleeping improves well-being, it can actually strengthen a partnership.”

    “This won’t last forever”

Perhaps the most reassuring message in the comments? This phase is temporary.

As @lucywestlake92 put it: “I always say to hubby, we’ve got years to be together, the kids need us at the moment. It won’t be forever.”

Whether you’re texting your spouse from another room, sandwiched between a toddler and a baby, or fully embracing the family bed—know this: you’re not alone. And if it works for your family, it works.

It is a bittersweet time for Eric Christian Olsen and his family.

Earlier this year, the NCIS: Los Angeles alum and his wife Sarah Wright, who is also an actress, lost their home in the wildfire crisis that ravaged much of Los Angeles.

And what fans didn’t know, was that all that time, the The House Bunny actress was pregnant with the couple’s fourth child, but now that the happy news is out, she’s sharing some family photos featuring her kids — and her growing bump.

Over the weekend, Sarah took to Instagram and shared a round of photos of the family’s Sunday spent in Ojai, the beloved town north of Los Angeles, south of Santa Barbara.

Sarah and Eric met in 2006 on the set of Fox’s sitcom The Loop, got engaged during a vacation in Mexico in 2011, and tied the knot in 2012 in Wyoming’s idyllic Jackson Hole. They share three kids, son Wyatt, 11, and daughters Esme Olivia, eight, and Winter Story, four.

The first photo she shared slightly highlighted her growing bump, which she had dressed in a green and blue checkered sweater, and more photos followed of the shops the family visited, and some of the kids perusing books at a bookstore.

In part inspired by Kathy Bates, who stars in Matlock, which he produced, honoring him at the Critics Choice Award after her win because of his recent family heartbreak, he wrote: “I do take moments to digest, to acknowledge and authentically process what is lost — for me, that doesn’t come with tears. BUT, I have been perpetually blown away, eyes pooled, tears racing by the kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity of our friends, family and complete strangers.”

He then shared that his brother, Daniela and their kids had taken in “six extra adults, five kids, three dogs (two of which who [sic] wanted to murder the others) with such effortless grace.”
