  • Childs Five Words Shake Her Mum To The Core: Racial Bullying

Everyone grew up with a childhood best friend. They were the one you missed when they weren’t at school, who always made you laugh and kept all your secrets and the keeper of every pinky promise. You two did everything together.

When you are young, it’s pretty incredible what a difference your best friend forever can make. Rachel May Stafford recently took to Facebook to share an experience her daughter had with her best friend who fell subject to racist bullying.

Stafford said her daughter explained tearfully that she asked her friend if she was OK after hearing the racist comments, but she didn’t respond.
“So I just scooted closer,” Stafford said her daughter told her. “I didn’t know what to do, Mama, so I just hurt with her.”

    I just hurt with her
“It took me a moment to recover from that,” Stafford said in her post. “I filed those powerful words away and continued observing this mighty pair.”
She went on to explain her admiration for the best friend duo, saying that they have always been there for each other.
“Whether one gets hurt on the playground … whether one is getting new glasses and needs an honest opinion … whether one needs encouragement at basketball tryout … whether one is frightened by a dog … they respond compassionately to each other’s needs.”

She said that even when they have disagreements, they manage to talk things through calmly and effectively.
She shared a story of taking the two girls to basketball camp, only to arrive and see that they were the only two girls at the camp. They fist bumped, then went on to enjoy their time at camp.

On the last day of camp, Stafford’s daughter looked at her best friend and said, “‘Thank you so much for going with me to that new camp. If you hadn’t been there, I don’t know what I would have done!’”
Her friend looked her straight in the eye and said, “‘If you ever have to go to a new basketball camp, don’t worry. I will always go with you.”

This is the kind of friend everyone should have
Stafford said she hopes the world takes note of a friendship like this.
“What if we collectively remember, ‘I’ll hurt with you,’ is something we can all do when we don’t know what to do?”
She said we should stop looking at it as “my back” or “your back,” but rather, “our backs,” so we can create a unified, peaceful world for our future generations.
She shared a picture of the two girls sitting on a football field and explained that the two of them have a little team of their own. But their team goal isn’t to win or be the best, it’s to love.

These sweet young girls are setting the perfect example of the love we should all have for one another, regardless of age or skin colour.
“They know that they are stronger together than they are alone,” Stafford said. “Let us take note.”

  • Things Not To Say To Parents After The Loss Of A Child

Losing a child is the hardest thing a parent can go through. There are often no words to describe the pain and anguish the parent feels. As a friend, you want to reach out to them but you often feel like you don’t quite know what to say.

Reaching out in love is the best thing you can do to help your friend who has just lost a child. Mums advice asked bereaved parents what things are better left unsaid.
Here are eight things Things Not To Say To Parents After The Loss Of A Child:

    1. “Your child/baby/fetus that passed away recently…”
Never refer to the child that passed away in impersonal ways. One of the biggest fears parents have is that their child will be forgotten. It is best to call the child by their name and talk about the great memories you had of him/her.

    2. “I just don’t know how you’re managing to hold it all together”
Quite often  the grieving parent is just putting a face on to make it through the day. You bringing it up will often tear down the facade they have built up that day to go out and get things done. They are obviously heartbroken; you don’t need to be the one to tell them that.

    3. “Well at least you’re still young”
The loss a baby or child is heartbreaking it doesn’t matter how young or old they are and if they can have more, no child can replace their angel baby.

    4. “He/she is in a better place”
Often a person believes this statement, but they would rather not hear it. The parent would rather their child be here on Earth with them. It isn’t bad to bring up religion, but maybe focus on listening to the parent share how they are feeling instead.

    5. “Well what you’re going through is just like that time I….”
Never trivialize their pain with your own story. Yes, you have pain and yes, they are feeling pain, but it probably isn’t the same pain. It is better to just listen to them share their feelings and the experience they are going through right now.

    6. “It’s been a while; maybe you should get over it”
This is a very blunt way of saying what a lot of people think: “How are you still grieving?” or “Why haven’t you gotten over it?” Never keep a clock on someone else’s grieving. It takes us each a different amount of time to deal with pain, and it is unfair to expect everyone to overcome grief in a certain time frame. The loss a child isn’t something you just get over.

    7. Dark jokes
Some people grieve by making terrible jokes about the situation. It is not a good idea to jump in and start making these kinds of jokes.

     8. Nothing
Reach out in love. Not saying anything will make the parent feel alone. Ultimately, whatever you say, as long as it is said with love, the parent will feel that love.
It is a terrible thing to lose a child, and it is important that those who have experienced this type of loss are surrounded by love. This is a hard thing to go through, and you can help erase some of that pain by reaching out with open arms.

  • Do Not Tell Your Children You Love Them

Do Not Tell Your Children You Love Them

How many times a day do you tell your children you love them?

How many times a day do they hear you say I love you to other people or things?

Do you end a call with your partner with “Bye love you”.
Your children hear you express the word love countless times a day, you love this new outfit, you love the new tv series, you love that Hollywood actor, my god you love so much.

So when you tell your child you love them, do you love them as much as the shoes you bought on sale? Of course you love them more, but to a child the word Love is  becoming as common as the word “The”, “No”, and “okay”, “in a minute” .

    Change it up people, try:

“I love the way you smile”.

“You make me so happy when you draw such beautiful pictures”.

“You are amazing, I’m so proud that you’re mine”.

    “You are so kind-hearted”.

“How are you so clever, I like how hard you try”.

So do not tell your child you love them, ONLY, add some more to it, make your child  realise what they really mean to you and how great they are, build them up, make them believe in themselves.

Don’t just use the words I love you, show them every day.

Ttop telling silly objects you love them, say you like them yes but love them NO, hug your child, talk to them, actually listen to what your child has to say, put don your phone, tablet, laptop take in everything your child is doing and  describe what you like about them, let them know they are special, they are amazing, your child will grow so quickly make sure you don’t miss it.

  • I Was Arrested Over Wellington Boots

October 2014 I split with my partner and the father of my youngest two children after he had cheated on me.

One weeks before Christmas he was due to have his children for four hours from midday, by 1:30pm he still hadn’t arrived.
Finally at 2pm he text me to say he was 15 minutes away and to put the kids Wellington boots in a carrier bag as he wanted to take them to the local woods and park.

He arrived at 3pm and said he would only be taking them for an hour, I had done with arguing with him and couldn’t be bothered with a confrontation, I went to pass him the kids wellys, he walked backwards shouting “physical violence, physical violence” and drove off.
I stood at my front door completely confused, my brother and my children were stood in the front room and were equally confused.
The next day at 5pm whilst eating our evening meal, there was a loud bang on the door.

A male and female police officer were standing at my door, they asked who I was, they then read me my rights and went to handcuff me, they saw my children and asked if I had anyone here to care for them, which I did not.

The police officer said I was to hand myself into the local police station by 9 the next morning for an assualt on my ex a vunerable person, at this point I burst into laughter.

The next day I dropped off my children at school and arranged for a friend to collect them afterwards.
I got to the police station to hand myself in, I was searched, had my fingerprints taken, mug shot done and spent an hour being interviewed.
They locked me in a cell, whilst they made a decision, after an hour they had finally decided.

    NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE!!!

I even said that if I wanted to attack the idiot I’d use something more deadly than some toddler Wellington boots.
My ex had lied but worst he had scared my children, they were worried their mummy would go to prison.
All of this was due to my ex wanting to prove to his new girlfriend the reason he had cheated was because he was too scared to leave me.

  • My child was sexually assaulted but the abuser gets more support.

My child was sexually assaulted but the abuser gets more support.

A few years back my son then aged seven was at school, he came home and was very quiet, he didn’t eat his tea and just stayed in his bedroom.

I thought he was coming down with something, a few days later I was speaking with a mum at the school and she said her son was also being very quiet.
I sat my little boy down and told him, he can tell me anything, absolutely anything and I will support him.

He burst into tears, I held him in my arms for a good ten minutes whilst he sobbed his heart out.
When he calmed, he spat out some words that still haunt me today “mummy a boy pulled my willy hard and made me have his willy in my mouth, he pee’d in me mummy, he said he would Butt fuck me if I told, mummy I’m scared”.

We went to the police and my son said who had done it, a child of eight, a bloody eight year old.

The school gave the abuser far more support than my child, nothing would be done because of his age, he had attacked four children the youngest being only five years old.
My son has had to move school and sees a councillor, he still has nightmares, my once happy child is a shell of his former self, now I completely understand that the abuser may himself have been abused or hurt but surely the victims should be shown more love and support.

My sons old school were more worried about it getting out to the press than the damage done to the children. We have never even received an apology from the child, his parents or the school. We are left here alone trying to pick up the pieces.

If you think a child is being abused please don’t hesiate to report it, https://www.gov.uk/report-child-abuse

  • I Am An IVF Baby, Don’t Judge My Mum

My name is Sophie and I was born in 1996.

One Evening in March, when I was twelve, my mum and dad sat me down sat.

Being the kind of kid I was, I thought I was in trouble. They both looked anxious and very serious. In the months prior she had been giving me educational books and little mum and daughter talks about reproduction. Now, in retrospect, I realise it was to prepare me for this very moment.
I came into the world a different way

Together my Mum and Dad told me that I wasn’t conceived the way that my sex education teaching was teaching us about. They told me that I was very special. I was an IVF child, and what’s more, I was conceived using a donated embryo. To be honest, I was confused at first, but eventually I felt proud and happy that i must have been very much wanted.

My mum couldn’t have children due to very early menopause. Doctors never found out why this happened, it wasn’t genetic.

Her five sisters had never had a problem.
As for my biological parents, for their privacy, I won’t disclose what led to their need to access IVF. However, after accessing IVF treatments they were blessed with triplets.

They were left with eight embryos, which they kindly decided to donate. I spent four years as a cluster of frozen genetic material before my parents were granted access to these donated embryos. I was the only embryo to survive and be successfully transferred.

It wasn’t until I was a grown woman that I realised that some people thought I was a freak of nature or my mother as a lesser being.

As a student midwife, I often found myself when on placement asking parents of multiples if they were IVF.
I remember asking one mum who had twins if they were from IVF. Her face filled with a kind of shame or fear and she looked at me like she wished at that exact moment I would disappear. She finally confirmed that they were IVF. I smiled and told her that I was to, she instantly looked relieved and the tension fled her face.

It was that moment I began to feel upset and even angry at the ridicule people like her and my mum would have experienced.
I know what it took to get me here, IVF is not an easy process, but these babies are much wanted.

Being a person of IVF has never made me feel ashamed or somehow lesser than others.

At times I felt it’s given me strength that I otherwise wouldn’t have.

I have never doubted that I was very much wanted, I’ve always known I was meant to be here on this earth.

It shouldn’t matter if a baby is conceived “naturally”, through IVF,insemination or surrogate, every baby is a blessing, do not judge our mums!

  • Smacking Children Aganist The Law

Smacking  children will shortly be banned in Scotland, the Scottish Government has just confirmed.

Ministers have announced they will ensure that a Bill brought forward by Green MSP John Finnie would become a new law.
The legislation will remove the defence of ”justifiable assault” in Scots law, which allows parents to use physical punishment to discipline a child.
The move will make Scotland the very first part of the United Kingdom to introduce a ban on the smacking of children.

Should smacking be banned in England, let us know in the comments?
Scottish Labour announced earlier this week it would also support the bill as “the right thing to do”.

    A spokesman said:

“Giving children equal protection against assault will send a clear message to all of us about how we treat each other and underpin Scotland’s efforts to reduce violence”.
“The physical punishment of children is already illegal in 52 countries and the proposal will give children in Scotland the necessary protections to flourish in a healthy environment and encourage the building of stronger relationships between children, their parents and others who care for them.”

“The NSPCC has long campaigned for children to have the same protection against assault as adults and we strongly believe a change in the law would be a common-sense move.”

  • I Wish I Could Be Raped Again

I wish I could be raped again.

I wish I could go back to the moment I was raped again.
I was 13 years old and lived in a small village. There wasn’t much to do and very few shops, just a wine merchants, village store, co-op, a Chinese and an Indian restaurant.
Most of my friends were well off and they would catch the train at weekends and go to the nearest town to the cinema or McDonald’s.

My father worked very hard to support our family but money was tight.
I decided if I wanted to be like my mates I needed to make my own money not have it handed to me like my friends.
I asked the shops for jobs but at 13 no one offered me anything, my last resort was to ask in the Indian restaurant.

They seemed so friendly and said I could help do some washing up on Saturday’s for a whole £10, I was so excited about it.
I turned up on the Saturday at 10am and had planned to go to the local town in the afternoon for the first time ever, I was beaming with pride.
I walked into the restaurant where I was greeted by an employee called Abaz, he was so chatty and friendly and offered me a Pepsi.
After I had drank my drink he asked me if I had ever had “ziggy ziggy”, I was baffled, what on earth was he talking about?

He told me it was time to get started; he showed me to a store room filled with spices, sacks of potatoes and straw on the floor. He grabbed me and threw me to the floor, he un-popped my adidas trousers and ripped off my top.

He held me down and shouted his friends.
Whilst I was laying naked on the store room floor his friend and the owner of the restaurant Shilim set up a video camera.
Abaz then kissed me hard, really really hard, he laughed at my small breasts and told me I was dirty for not shaving my pussy.
He spat on me in between my legs, he pushed himself inside of me. I didn’t say anything, I didn’t move, I stared at the clock above the door and thought to myself, ‘why doesn’t it hurt the people I’ve seen on tv programs?

Once he had finished 3 more took their turns stealing my innocence and laughing that I had never had ‘ziggy ziggy” before as I was bleeding.
Shilim who had been filming me all this time came along, he bit me on my nipples and my lips, he pulled my hair and told me to tell him that I loved him.

Once they had all had enough my clothes were chucked at me and a damp flannel, I was told to clean myself up as I looked a mess. They then closed the door and left me there.
20 minutes later they opened it and told me I was a dirty whore, an unshaven slut. They were going to tell everyone what a filthy prostitute i was and if people didn’t believe them they would show them my porno.

I was told I had to come back each Saturday or everyone would know, my parents would disown me and my friends would hate me.
As a young girl I was naive and vulnerable. I returned at least 100 times, raped over and over again and sold to their friends.
So yes, I wish I could be raped again for the first time just so I could shout NO, I could fight back, I could have kicked and punched and bite them.

I could of told someone, gone to the police, I should of done more to protect myself.
I am not blaming myself for being raped but I am blaming myself for letting them win, for letting them continue the sexual abuse for so long.
I wish I could go back and shake and slap my teenage self so I could tell her she is beautiful, strong, brave and this doesn’t need to happen.
But I cannot change the past, I allowed it to consume me for so long and now I have to find away to let it go away to move forward.
I have never had justice or the revenge I so wanted but what I do have is pride, love and a kind heart and a strength to carry on.

  • My Husband And His Energy Drink Addiction

Brianna and Austin were so excited to meet their new baby boy.

But one morning, Austin’s mum phoned with life changing news.“Austin had an accident” she told the worrier mum to be.

After a long drive to the hospital, Brianna learned that Austin had had a brain hemorrhage.

But the reason behind the sudden horror was just as unexpected.

Austin had been drinking energy drinks ever since he’d started picking up over time and had to commute more regularly.

Brianna learned that Austin had had a brain hemorrhage. But the reason behind the sudden horror was just as unexpected.

It became a regular habit and soon, Austin was drinking them excessively. Doctors say they’re ultimately what caused Austin’s brain hemorrhage.

Brianna said Austin had to have a lot of brain surgery to save his life, everyone was terrified.

Following this were strokes, seizures, swelling, and more things we weren’t prepared for.

“Then the time had come for me to deliver our baby”.

“I’m not going to lie to anyone, it was so hard. I had planned on Austin being a part of this huge moment. Being by my side. Holding my hand. Being there to cut the cord. Being there to welcome our son into the world. It didn’t feel right”.

“But a beautiful miracle happened as I delivered our son. Austin woke up”.

Austin was still too weak to see his son and was in and out of consciousness.

Brianna said ” At a little over 2 months old, our son finally met his dad. A day I wasn’t sure I would ever see. That was the day that my heart gained some of its happiness back.

Some time after that he could finally come home to me. Our life isn’t normal. There are doctors visits and hospital trips — so many that I lose count”.

    “But we are here. Fighting”.
