  • Are You Sure You’re Not Racist

An American  mum is going viral for a powerful letter on what she calls “UNintentional racism.” The mum, Brigette Diez Kerr, says she’s never been “intentionally racist,” but when her 7-year-old daughter asked for braids to match her best friend, the mum was suddenly convicted.

    Read Brigette’s story below:

This is my daughter and her best friend. They’ve been BFFs since nursery. They are in year 3 now. My daughter got up the other morning for school and asked that I fix her hair like her best friend wears her hair. She wanted tiny braids just like her.

I didn’t give my daughter braids that morning. Instead, I told her we didn’t have time. That was a lie. It was MY fear of my daughter getting teased due to the stereotypes that we place on each other, and how others perceive them, that kept me from giving her braids that morning.

My pastor just spoke this past Sunday morning of intentional and unintentional racism. I am by no means intentionally racist. I have dear friends and coworkers I love that are of many ethnicities. But was MY fear of my daughter being stereotyped a form of UNintentional racism?! I WAS CONVICTED! How dare I push MY fear, my UNintentional racism, onto my daughter who sees no colour, no stereotype, no hate, no “white girl hairstyle” or “black girl hairstyle”? She only sees pretty hair on her best friend. She shows love to ALL people without hesitation.

My daughter got her braids this morning. They weren’t perfect…I tried my very best. And she was SO PROUD!

Her smile was from ear to ear this morning and she couldn’t wait to get to school to show her best friend. She wanted to take a picture with her best friend this morning because they were twins.

I know so many people who claim to not be racist. Maybe you aren’t intentionally being racist but are there some decisions you are making or thoughts that you are having that may be considered UNintentional racism? We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves! Let’s do a better job of showing this love.

  • I GAVE UP BEING A MOTHER TO INDULGE MYSELF.

I’m about to hit a “perfect parent”‘s nerve here, but to be quite frank, I’m way past the point of caring.

I do not give a fuck. No fucks given whatsoever.

If you’re a mum, you’re probably on a mum’s advice page on Facebook, right?

    I am, too.

I asked a fair question and I was practically mauled by a pack of dogs for it.

I bet you’re dying to know what it was that I asked, so here it is…

“My ex-partner has a full time job, he earns £30k plus, he has plenty of disposable income and pays nothing for our child. Am I wrong in stopping contact?”

Apparently, I was; I was a bitch apparently and God only knows what else.

So, after a lot of thinking, do you know what I did?

I decided I couldn’t be bothered to be a mother anymore; yeah, I put myself before my kids.

What do they matter anyway? They’re just an inconvenience.

So, I woke up this morning as usual; I’d usually give my children some breakfast and some juice before school, but today I decided to give it a miss – I scoffed mine down, though.

I didn’t bother buying toothpaste when I went shopping either, so they’ll have to skip brushing their teeth aswell – I bought myself some, though.

So, then, I made sure the kids were dressed in filthy clothes, ready for school – mine were clean, though.

It was raining today, but I sent my eldest to school on his own, with no coat. He’ll have to stay indoors and play on his own – coats aren’t cheap, especially mine.

I went to work as soon as he left. I left my youngest at home, though – I’m not wasting £50 a day on childcare.

Who has that kind of money to spend?!

I then had a call from the school to ask why my eldest child wasn’t attending his educational school trip – truth is, I spent his trip money on cigarettes.

I got home from work and they were both sat in the cold and dark – I spent the electricity and gas money on a night out.

They started to complain they were hungry again – tough, I’m getting a takeaway when they go to bed.

They can skip having a bath and go straight to bed, they can surivive without a wash.

It’s Saturday tomorrow, the kids are off and I think we’ll just stay in because I’m skint – I went a bit mad on buying myself new clothes last week.

Actually, I’ve got a bit of cash spare, I’ll fuck off out for the weekend instead and won’t bother making the effort.

Of course, I would never do this to my children.

Who in their right fucking mind would do this to their child?

A man would, that’s who (and apparently some women do aswell).

If a woman behaved this way, she would have her children taken away and placed in to care – no questions asked.

So, tell me this – why is it okay for a man not to provide for his children and still think he’s entitled to a relationship with his child?

There are exceptions, of course – there always are. But, if you work and have money to spend on yourself, you can spend it on your child.

    No fucking excuses.

Stop defending a man for being a man, it’s WRONG.

  • Baby Left To Die In NHS Hospital

There is no denying that the NHS is under pressure. Who can forget the red alert meltdown in January? Almost half of NHS trusts across England declared major hospital alerts in one week. But it appears things have been going awry for a long time. As the NHS is forced to keep cancelling non-emergency operations to try and recover control, vulnerable people are being ignored and neglected. And only now are we understanding the full effects of all of this.
    Kayden Bancroft

Kayden Bancroft was 20 months old when he died at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) in April 2016. He’d been waiting three days for life-saving surgery. After falling and hurting his mouth, Bancroft was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital where it was discovered he had a hole in his diaphragm, and part of his bowel had burst through the hole. Staff asked for him to be transferred to RMCH, but were denied as there was no intensive care bed available.

He was transferred the following day to an ordinary ward and his surgery was repeatedly delayed. He then suffered a cardiac arrest, with nurses struggling for 30 minutes to resuscitate him.
Speaking of the trauma, Bancroft’s grandmother Julie Rowlands said:
“His care was appalling. He was basically put in a room, and left. And all we got, nearly every day, was, ‘He’s not having the operation today, he’s not having the operation today.’ They were coming up with excuses, ‘There’s no bed, or a car crash victim’s come in.’ That’s all we got, all the time we were there, was excuses”.

Speaking of the hospital’s failure, she added:

“After his cardiac arrest the doctors tried to bring him round, but he was without oxygen for almost half an hour. They took him to theatre, but I knew it was too late. It was four-and-a-half hours before they brought him back and they apologised there and then and said as a hospital they had failed him”.
    A preventable death

As the family’s lawyer Stephen Clarkson highlighted after the inquest into the hospital’s failure: “The real tragedy here is that Kayden’s death was entirely preventable”.
During the incident, it was revealed that senior surgeons repeatedly tried to warn trust management about the shortage of emergency operating theatres. Hospital consultant Mr Khalil also told the BBC: “On Thursday [two days after being admitted to RMCH], one of the surgeons had offered to cancel one of his elective lists, so that he could do Kayden as an emergency, but did not receive the support that he needed. That should not have happened.”
The trust told the BBC that it had no record of this request. It said:
“We believe that there are sufficient theatres in our children’s hospital to cope with the demand for emergency cases; however, on occasions some children do have to wait for urgent surgery while emergency surgery takes place”.

    The trust added:
“The trust would like to make it clear that at no time has it directed clinical staff to prioritise elective over non-elective care. As is the case at most similar hospitals, elective cases are regularly cancelled to accommodate emergency patients”.

    Continued cancellations

The consequences of cancelling operations and appointments are blatantly clear. But thanks to government underfunding, the NHS has been left without any other options. In 2016, 20,000 eye appointments were cancelled at Shropshire’s hospitals alone. Chief Executive of the NHS Simon Stevens has also revealed this is only likely to continue, as patients must wait longer for non-urgent operations as a ‘trade off’ for improvements in other areas.

It’s only so long before an urgent case like Bancroft’s gets overlooked in the chaos.

  • Maya The Bee, Offensive Dick Pic

Netflix  has officially pulled an episode of popular kids’ show Maya the Bee from their streaming service after fans spotted a secret penis etched into some of the background art.

The story started last week, when one mom was surprised to spot something a little more than G-rated in the background of season 1, episode 35.

“Please be mindful of what your kids are watching. I did NOT edit any images whatsoever,” Chey Robinson wrote in a Facebook post. “There should be no reason my kids have to see something like this. I don’t know if they’re gonna do something about this or what, but there’s no reasons why this should be in this show.”

Another mum was able to corroborate her sighting, and tweeted screenshots:

Then it was off to the races. To be fair, it’s… pretty difficult to argue the carving is anything but a phallus—it’s almost an exact replica of the dick that gets drawn on every worksheet and folder a certain type a school boy encounters.

Netflix has yet to release a statement about the episode, but the show debuted in 2012, so it’s safe to say the season one episode has reached a lot of young eyes since it was first uploaded.

  • Husband Believes Wife Is Cheating For A Ridiculous Reason

Matthew Sim’s wife has been wrongly accused of cheating, wait til you see what evidence he has.

It all started after the birth of Mattew and Jodie Sim’s first child Millie who is now 9 months old.

Mattew felt that his loving wife had changed and he finally had evidence that she was a dirty cheat.

Mattew text his wife and said

You fucking bitch why would you throw our marriage away, I loved you!!!

I’ve had a feeling you were cheating for a while, never wanting sex with the lights on, constantly distance, tired all the time and find any excuse to “pop out”.. now I have fucking proof, I saw you naked your knees are red raw only way they could get like that is carpet burns from sucking cock

    HER KNEES!!!

Mattew took to social media to share his wife’s betrayal and the fact she didn’t even have the guts to respond.

    But wait….

Jodie’s savage reply publically is even better.

Dear husband, I have never cheated on you although maybe I should of.

Yes I’m tired I’ve just had a baby, I don’t want to be naked as I no longer feel attractive, I pop out to the shop for the first bit of quiet I have had all day.

I shouldn’t have to explain myself but seen as you’ve put this post up in front of all our family and friends you have given me no choice but to defend myself!

MY KNEES… my knees are not from fun times with your imaginary man but from psoriasis.

It’s time you grew up, maybe if you changed a nappy or fed Millie once in a while I wouldn’t have been so distant, tired and stressed.

Now kindly apologise publically for being a prize prick.

Jodie uploaded a photo of the suspect knee.

Is this one of the most ridiculous reasons to accuse someone of cheating, we have yet to have a follow up to see if the couple have smoothed things over.

  • New Netflix Cartoon Is Sick And Not Suitable For Children

    To the people at Netflix,

One of your trailers came across my Facebook newsfeed today that has left me enraged. With a constant stream of news, shares, posts, and pictures, it is easy to keep scrolling, passively taking it all in. But, the content of this video is so obscene and deeply troubling to my spirit that, as a parent, I simply cannot remain passive about it.

What is it you may ask? It is the Netflix produced cartoon series entitled Big Mouth that is slated for release on September 29, 2017. Like most mothers, my first thought was, “How bad can a cartoon be?” Well, how naïve I was! Ten seconds into the two-minute trailer aimed at our sons and daughters entering puberty turned my stomach in ways I have never felt before. It was repulsive.

Those two minutes were filled with the most sexually perverse content I have ever seen. The stars who voice the characters on this show, which is being marketed as a “raunchy, coming-of-age comedy,” say themselves that it is “filthy.”

Whoa! Guess what Netflix? I have a coming-of-age teenager and you have just stepped on this mama bear’s toes. Now, listen to me roar!

Your creative team who sat around the drawing board while sharing their personal stories of teenage sexual dysfunction (which I read was the inspiration behind the storyline) will not cast their dysfunctional, moral corruptness onto my children’s young, impressionable minds. Your twisted and warped humor is not funny. It is dangerous.

Do you know that images are branded into our consciousness? Yep, I bet you do. In fact, you are probably banking on it. What goes in through our eyes can never be unseen.

You, dear Netflix, with 100 million subscribers, have a moral obligation to protect the eyes of the innocent. Instead, you create programs like this that are full of debauchery and hedonism with the high hopes that these images will imbed themselves into the curious minds of children, gaining you loyal customers for life. Capture them in a dark bedroom while their parents are busy. When asked what they are watching, they’ll reply, “Just a cartoon.” Pretty sneaky of you.

You have sunk to the lowest common denominator with this one. Your widely popular, suicide-glamorizing 13 Reasons Why gave me much pause and concern; this one slams on the brakes.

You have already stolen the imaginations of our children. A whopping 80% of Americans younger than 35 have a Netflix subscription. The average child between the ages of 2 and 18 streams 1.8 hours of content per day. That’s 650 hours per year! Contrast that with the four to seven MINUTES spent playing outdoors per day. Kids watch services like yours 15 times as much as they play outdoors. Stop and chew on that for a minute.

To you, Netflix, and all the other time-wasting, mind-wasting video platforms out there, you have, in one fell swoop, redefined childhood. Yes, despite being a gatekeeper in my home, I’m guilty of allowing you in. I’m guilty of thinking your weak parental controls are sufficient enough. I’m guilty of allowing my children to get sucked into binge-watching you. I’m guilty of throwing you in their faces so that mama can have some peace and quiet to complete other tasks. But, I thought you were innocent.

No more! I will make it my goal to reclaim the time that you have stolen and to encourage the imaginations that you have stifled. My children have already been without you for 40 days and I’m sorry but not sorry to say you have not been missed. Even if I were entertaining the idea of turning you back on in moderation, you have just given me ample reason not to.

Netflix, you have shown yourself to be the pusher of an agenda that I do not want my family to be any part of. You operate in the gray area where anything goes. If you are willing to go to this level of lewdness, where will you stop? Sadly, I don’t think there is a limit.

You say, “When parents are going through their family’s entertainment spending, we want them to feel great about their Netflix bill.” Well, unless you CANCEL THIS SHOW and can all the other vile and noxious projects in your pipeline, you won’t make me feel “great” even if you give me this service for free. If you do not heed the message of this letter and the tsunami of backlash you are about to receive from all my mama bear friends, then, I’ll just warn you–Get ready

  • Beware Of Henna Tattoos

What was meant as a fun souvenir of a trip to Egypt has become a painful nightmare for this 7 year-old British girl.

Madison Gulliver was on vacation with her family in Egypt when her dad allowed her to get a henna tattoo ar the spa in their 4-star hotel.

    The tattoo started itching

The design was beautiful and she was happy with it until she went home and it started to itch. The family didn’t know why, but the little girl was having a serious allergic reaction to the black henna the salon in the hotel used.

Her father said, “We noticed there was a small patch on the top of the tattoo that was raised but we couldn’t see any redness … The next morning the whole tattoo was starting to get itchy, so we washed it off which revealed a rash in the outline of the tattoo.”

    She had to be hospitalized

It eventually got worse, and Madison went to the hospital where she was treated for chemical burns. Now, they’re warning others about the dangers of black henna.

Madison’s parents were extremely upset about the whole ordeal, and they had no idea the damage the henna could do to their daughter’s skin. Her dad told Good Morning Britain, “It was just advertised as a henna tattoo, and it was a treat for her while we were on holiday … it wasn’t cheap and it was done in the hotel’s own salon.”

    Beware of black henna

According to Refinery29, Black henna isn’t actually natural henna, and it’s illegal in the UK and in the US. It contains a chemical used in hair dye, called PPD. Lisa Butterworth, a henna artist, says that “people often get black henna done at tourist-heavy vacation spots.”

Butterworth also gave tips on how to know whether or not your artist is using natural henna. First, ask if it’s real. If they say it is and you’re still suspicious, there are some ways you can tell.

First, natural henna takes about 6 hours to really set in and stain the skin, so if your artist says you can wash it off in an hour, it’s probably the chemical stuff. Natural henna also stains brown, not black.

But, Butterworth says the easiest way to tell if the henna is natural is by the way it smells. She says, “Black henna smells chemically … Natural henna smells of essential oils. It smells nice.”

    It will affect her forever

They’re hoping Madison’s scar goes away in a couple of years, but now that she’s had an allergic reaction to the PPD, she’s more prone to reactions to other things. PPD is found in hair dye, some sunscreens and many other things, so now Madison has to be extra careful with what she puts in her body and on her skin. Her parents shared that she has already had an allergic reaction to Penicillin when she never had before, even though it doesn’t contain PPD.

Her mum posted on Facebook about the ordeal, and is warning others about the dangers of black henna. She said, “It’s too late for Maddie now however, by sharing this post and spreading the word a little more, we might stop more adults/children going through painful burns and a life time of [allergies] to PPD.”

  • A Day In Mainstream School For My Autistic Daughter

A Day In Mainstream School For My Autistic Daughter

I am so grateful that my daughter can talk and that she shares freely with me her worries and stresses of school. This day in the life has been written with her full consent and approval to help others see how challenging mainstream can be for some children with autism and how they can perhaps ‘hold it together’ all day but explode at home.

I wake up and come downstairs and try not to think about school too much. I get my iPad or toys and set them up just how I like it. I know I need to get dressed and eat but until things are ‘right’ I can’t think about those things. I need to do one thing at a time so please leave me alone. Let me do it my way. Constantly asking me questions is so stressful as is nagging me about time. By the time we need to leave I am already stressed and anxious.

    In the playground

I am scanning. This is so hard to see who I need to see when everyone is dressed the same and moving around. The noise, the unpredictable movements, the bags on the ground…that’s a lot to take in for me. I only want to find my best friend and the longer it takes to find her the more I get worried. What if she is off sick? What if she has an appointment today?

Bells panic me. They mean I have to move somewhere quickly and I sometimes get stressed. Bells mean pressure and children running and they might push me over. I stand in my line and face forwards making sure I don’t look at anyone. The teachers shout about not talking and standing straight but I am doing those already and not sure what I should be doing differently. I turn to see if everyone else is doing what I am doing and now my class is pulled up for me facing the wrong way! I feel to blame. I feel so anxious. I feel different.

    Getting to class

I have to remember to put my bag one place, my packed lunch somewhere else and then hang my coat on the right peg. It can be confusing to remember all that while others are talking and moving all around me and the lights are so bright inside. Sometimes I wait until most of the others are in the class but then I worry I will get shouted at for taking too long! Sometimes I forget I have my school bag as it is on my back and I can’t see it! How can everyone else do this so quickly and easily and I can’t?

    Class

I listen so much. In fact I listen so hard to everything that sometimes I can’t do my work because I need to stop and listen to everything the teacher says in case she is talking to me. I want to write neat because I don’t want a row but then they say I need to work faster and I can’t do fast and neat. It is hard to concentrate with others so close to me. They move about and talk and turn pages and it is so distracting sometimes. The walls have so much stuff on them, I can hear the tap dripping and I can hear people walking about.

I am scared to talk in case I get in trouble.

Sometimes I just can’t do the work. Yesterday they wanted us to do a senses poem about fireworks. They told me to imagine being at a bonfire with fireworks but how can you do that if you have never been to a bonfire before? I haven’t. They told me to write about what I would touch but you are not allowed to touch fireworks so I can’t write anything. They told me to write what I can smell but all I can smell right now is disgusting school dinners and I can’t even spell that. I just leave that one too.

Then the teacher gets me in trouble for not doing the task. I want to cry. The tears won’t come out.

    Playtime

I don’t understand this bit. You play with toys so why call it playtime when there are no toys? Just call it ‘talk time’ or ‘stand in the playground time’ instead. I take my own toys out. Then it rains and we have to come inside and I can’t play with my toys and it is so confusing for me. I don’t like changing things. I get cold at playtime because it is hard to fasten my coat and if I take my time the people tell me to hurry up and go outside so I just can’t fasten it up now. I have one area I like to stand and play with my one friend. We play the same game every day. We like it that way. I want to play with others but I can’t because I don’t understand what they are playing. They don’t have toys. I can’t work out made up games like that.

    Lunchtime

Lunchtime is horrible. We have a short time for everyone in the whole school to eat and they want us all to line up and take turns and sit at huge tables with other children I don’t know. I just want to sit down and get time to eat and not have to hear chatter chatter and smell what everyone else has that I don’t like. It is far too noisy and busy and yet no-one will open my yoghurt or peel my banana. I feel lost and confused and just want out of there.

    P.E

I hate PE so much. I never know what we are going to do. Sometimes we do balls and sometimes running and sometimes sports. I hate it all. I know I can’t do it and people laugh. How can I catch a ball when there is so much else going on in the same hall at the same time? I can’t focus. I am so cold. My legs don’t like not having trousers on. My arms miss my cardigan so much. I once fell and hurt myself in PE so I don’t run now because running is dangerous plus they said at assembly to not run in school so I don’t run. Then they tell me to run and I want to ask ‘but you said not to run in school’ but my voice won’t work. I want to cry. The tears won’t come.

I do like school. I like learning and I like doing work. I like having a desk and I really want to be star of the week. I like the other children though I don’t know if they like me. I want to tell you about things that have bothered me like being told to work quicker or not eating. I am tired from it all and now I feel safe. I want to cry. This time the tears will come so please let them.

I am ok. I just need to let the day at school wash away so I can rest.

School can be hard but then everyday can sometimes be hard when you have autism like me.

  • Mums Response To Childs Tantrum Ends Up In A Police Visit

I’m a mum aged 23 and I have a three year old daughter named Lacey.I’d like to warn other mums to watch what they say to their children when In public.

Back in January I was shopping with Lacey, it was just before midday and she was getting hungry and tired.

One more shop to go in and then we would head to the cafe for lunch.

Queuing in Savers, Lacey starts the stomping of her feet and whining, I said to her
“Pack it in or I’ll put you on eBay”.

Soon we were served and on our way to the cafe. I thought nothing more of her micro tantrum in Savers or my jokey reply.

That night whilst settling Lacey for bed there was a load thump thump thump on the door the police where here.

My head was a whirl I was thinking the worst that my partner had been injured on his way home from work.

The police informed me there had been a flagged warning that I may tempt to sell my child… I mean really they thought I would sell my own flesh and blood.

The police said that a neighbour had been in the shop at the time of my daughters tantrum and heard what I had said and called them.

Luckily after the police checked on my daughter and seeing that she was loved and well looked after no charges or further action was taken.

I hate to think that a neighbour thinks I could possibly even consider selling Lacey, please be wary of what you say, you never know what busy body maybe listening.

  • AFTER THIS MUM RUBBED THIS COMMON REMEDY ON HER SON, HE DIED. – BE WARNED

IT MIGHT BE HARD TO BELIEVE, AFTER ALL, MANY OF US HAD USED VICK VAPORUB. IT SEEMS LIKE A HARMLESS OINTMENT, EFFECTIVE FOR FEVER, NASAL CONGESTION, AND MANY OTHER ISSUES.

But this case will make people question its use, especially mums and dads with small children because it could bring fatal consequences to them.

A Mexican mother has warned other parents and hopes to help avoid someone else going through what she’s living: the loss of her 2-year-old baby.

When she came back from work, she came into her baby’s room. When she got close to him she kissed him, she felt he had a fever. She imagined it was just a common cold and thought about a home remedy to relieve him.

She rubbed Vick VapoRub on his chest, back, and under his nose to help him breathe. She tucked him up and laid down next to him.

She was tired, so she fell asleep next to her baby. Hours later, when she woke up, she noticed her son wasn’t breathing.

She scooped him up and rushed to the hospital to save him. But, sadly, everything was pointless, the baby had been dead for hours.

The medical report stated the child died due to inflammation in the respiratory track, produced by the camphor contained in the famous ointment.

She never imagined that home remedy would take his baby. She only wanted to help him breathe, and the ointment did exactly the opposite.

The thing is, this remedy is effective for adults; however, for babies younger than three years old, the ointment increases the mucus by 60%. The mucus accumulates on the trachea and blocks the breathing.

The label warns the ointment is contraindicated for children younger than 3 years old.

Sadly, in the case of the Mexican mother, the warning went unnoticed. Using home remedies for several health issues is something common in homes around the world, but we hope this story draws attention to this fact: when children are concerned, we must always read the labels and ask for the advice of experts before using any home remedy.

We must not let a simple mistake take our loved ones; we must be careful and seek medical advice to treat any illness.
