Everywhere you look there’s a new story about how “kids these days” are addicted to screens. It’s easy to feel like a lot of this discourse is overhyped, until you start talking to teachers. They are constantly sounding alarms about how many of today’s kids are literally hobbled by their screen use. One teacher has narrowed the problem down to a few specific areas parents need to focus on when it comes to clamping down on screen use.

The teacher is urging parents to ban their kids from using screens in four specific places:

Cristy is a fourth-grade teacher and content creator known as @cristysclassroom on TikTok, where she shares glimpses into her professional life and tips for parents. And she says that in her 19 years as a teacher, and as a mother of two herself, screen addiction in kids is one of the biggest problems she’s ever encountered.

“Talk to any teacher you know and they will tell you that there is a huge problem with students who are addicted to screens,” she said in a video. She described the situation as being literally akin to drug addiction. “They come to school and they have major withdrawals,” she said.

That may sound melodramatic, but the science is on her side. Extensive research has proven that not only are screens literally just as addictive as substances, but they are in fact DESIGNED to be. Their user interfaces are literally modeled after the addictive visual, spatial and tactile cues of slot machines.

Perhaps even worse, Cristy highlighted studies that have shown these screen-withdrawal symptoms both mimic ADHD symptoms and are associated with higher risk of developing the condition — and then worsen its symptoms if a child does in fact have it. It’s a mess.

So what can parents do? Cristy said she’s not in the camp that feels parents need to forbid screens entirely — that’s an entirely unrealistic demand, after all. “But there are four places that I am adamant your child should not be on a screen in these four places,” she said

1. Restaurants

Keeping a squirrelly kid contained in a restaurant without a screen is a herculean effort, of course. Still, the hard truth is that parents did it for decades before screens ever existed — it just meant going home if the kid in question truly couldn’t handle the experience.

But Cristy said there is a far more important issue at hand: Plunking a screen in front of a kid denies them the opportunity to learn how to behave and interact in a restaurant, for starters, but more importantly it denies them the social interaction with their family that mealtimes foster.

As a teacher, this is what Cristy said bothers her most. “You are missing out on crucial connection time,” she said. “You should be sitting, talking, observing, laughing, playing games.” And perhaps most important of all, she urged parents to “teach your kids how to be bored,” a skill that has been lost to the digital era — and is surely part of the enormous problems we’re seeing in schools.

2. Grocery stores

“I know how hard it is. I know kids can throw tantrums and they want this and they want that,” Cristy said. But similar to restaurants, “you’re missing out on huge education opportunities by just putting them in front of a screen while you’re pushing the cart around the grocery.”

Talking to them about what you’re doing in the grocery store, pointing out the different fruits and vegetables, explaining the choices you’re making are all things that can have huge developmental impacts on kids, Cristy said. “Let them look around, let them be curious, and let them ask questions,” she recommended.

3. In the car

“Yes, I said in the car,” Cristy said, bracing for impact. Remember: No adult today had screens in the car as kids and we all got through it. Sure, our parents threatening us to “stop crying before I come back there and give you something to cry about” was one of the chief methods by which they got the job done, but still!

Cristy said long trips are a different matter, but for short trips around town, “your kid doesn’t need a phone. They can be bored in the car.” They are going to have long stretches of boredom in life eventually. They need to learn how to navigate it!

And much like the grocery store, car trips are full of opportunities for enrichment. “Talk to them about traffic, talk to them about how to drive, point out stop lights,” Cristy said. “That’s how they get curious.” Psychologists even say that cars are among the best places to have deep conversations and connect with kids. 

4. In the stroller

“I can’t tell you how many people I see pushing a stroller with a kid at the park, going for a walk, and the kid is on a device,” Cristy said. “Why? There’s not enough for them to see out there! They should be watching and learning.”

That is, after all, the point of taking kids out of the house in the first place, right? To help them learn and experience the world, and to blow off steam with a change of pace and scenery. Putting a screen in front of them completely counteracts this. Your kid might as well be a character in “Wall-E.”

“Kids learn by observing and by playing,” Cristy said. “They’re missing out on so many developmental milestones because of that.” She suggests playing games like “I Spy,” or asking them to identify things they’re seeing in their environment — to keep them engaged and learning, rather than staring at yet another YouTube cartoon.

“We’ve got to help our children become productive members of society,” Cristy urged, “and at the rate they’re going with their screen time addictions, they’re not learning how to be social, they’re not learning how to be bored, and they’re not learning how to problem solve.” Screens may make it easier for parents to deal with their kids, but it seems like it’s past time to ask: At what cost?

U.S. shale needs much higher oil prices than $50 per barrel, and even higher than the current WTI Crude price in the high $60s, for a “drill, baby, drill” boom, oil tycoon and Trump campaign donor Harold Hamm says.

American producers, especially those pumping crude outside the Tier 1 inventory in the best Permian locations, would need an oil price of around $80 per barrel to cover the cost of drilling wells.

“There are a lot of fields that are getting to the point that’s real tough to keep that cost of supply down,” Hamm told Bloomberg Television in an interview on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference in Houston.

“When you get down to that $50 oil that you talked about, then you’re below the point where you’re going to ‘drill, baby, drill,’” the shale pioneer added.

Over the past few days, there has been a lot of talk of $50 oil and the shale industry.

The Trump Administration appeared to be pointing to $50 as a price that would be low enough for American energy prices to drop but still good enough for U.S. shale to prosper.

However, the industry and Wall Street banks beg to differ. They say that $50 oil is so low that it would see production curtailments as the average cash breakeven price, including dividends, is estimated at $50-$55 per barrel of oil.

And the industry is definitely not prepared to cut dividends after diligently working for a few years to boost shareholder returns and make U.S. oil stocks attractive again.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright told the Financial Times last week that shale producers could increase production even if oil prices fell to $50 per barrel as the sector continues to innovate and boost efficiency gains.

“New supply is going to drive prices down. Companies are going to innovate, drive their prices down and consumers and suppliers will bounce back and forth,” Wright, a former boss at fracking firm Liberty Energy, told FT.

At CERAWeek by S&P Global, Secretary Wright said the administration isn’t targeting a specific price of oil, but it works to bring back common sense and pro-energy policies in America.

The Trump Administration believes that eased permitting and lighter regulatory burdens on U.S. oil and gas producers would lead to more production even at lower oil prices.

But industry veterans, from Harold Hamm to Scott Sheffield, the founder of Pioneer Natural Resources which was sold to Exxon last year, don’t think prices lower than $60 would work.

Oil executives cheered the pro-energy agenda of the Trump Administration, welcoming the lifting of the Biden LNG permit freeze and the start of the process to repeal the so-called methane fee.

However, they are quietly concerned that oil prices at current levels are already on the verge of making money much more difficult.   

Pioneer’s founder and industry veteran Sheffield has some advice for the U.S. oil firms.

“You’ve really got to hunker down,” Sheffield told a Bloomberg Television interview on last week.

Oil prices are likely to fall into the range of $50 to $60 per barrel, Sheffield says, noting that American producers will struggle at these prices.

The cash breakeven price, including dividends, is $50-$55 for U.S. oil companies, and “that $50 oil is not going to work,” Sheffield told CNBC.

Other industry executives, as well as investment banks, also believe that $65 oil and below would present challenges to U.S. shale to keep production steady, let alone “drill, baby, drill.”

Saad Rahim, chief economist at commodity trader Trafigura, told Bloomberg that “$60 feels too low for much of the industry to work.”

With WTI Crude at around $65, the U.S. shale industry would likely hold production flat and shut down 25 rigs, Citigroup analysts Scott Gruber wrote in a note last week carried by Bloomberg.

“A drop into the upper $50s likely results in a bigger psychological impact with the rig count potentially falling ~75 and production down” by more than 300,000 barrels a day (bpd), according to Gruber.

Shale costs will also go up with the U.S. import tariffs on steel and aluminum, executives including Hamm say.

The U.S. has steelmakers “but they can’t supply it all,” Hamm told Bloomberg, referring to the steel pipes the industry uses to drill wells.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) Monday ruled that the daughter of a deceased government employee is eligible for a job in her father’s place. A two-member SC bench comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah heard the case regarding the job rights of petitioner Zahida Parveen, who was dismissed from her job after her father’s death.

During the course of hearing Justice Mansoor observed that a woman’s marriage had no connection with her financial independence. “If a son can be his father’s successor after marriage, why not a daughter,” he remarked.

Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) informed the court that according to a ruling by former chief justice Qazi Faez Isa, government employees’ children could not be given jobs on a preferential basis.

Justice Mansoor, however, responded that the Supreme Court decision was issued in 2024, whereas the case existed before it. “That ruling does not apply retroactively,” the judge remarked.

Justice Mansoor asked the KP law officer as to how did he terminate the woman after initially giving her the job. The KP advocate general replied that she got married and therefore was no more eligible for the job in place of her father.

Justice Mansoor asked the provincial law officer as to where was it written in the law that a daughter becomes ineligible for employment after marriage.

The KP advocate general replied that she was removed through a notification under the KP Civil Service Act. Justice Mansoor observed that marriage had no connection with a woman’s economic independence. He remarked that if a son could become a successor of his father in a government job after marriage, why not the daughter as well.

Meanwhile, the court, after accepting the petition of Zahida Parveen, declared her eligible for the job in her father’s place and disposed of the matter. Justice Mansoor announced that the court would issue a detailed ruling on women’s financial independence and the Supreme Court’s stance on the matter.

Dr. Paul Gringas, who is the President of International Pediatric Sleep Association (IPSA), said: “There are many factors to consider when it comes to your little one’s sleep when travelling. Here are a few that might help get you on your way

“First, prepare early and expect disruptions. Practise naps in the travel cot or car seat before leaving. Normal routines and schedule may be thrown off during travel so take double the baby supplies you were planning.”

Dr. Paul also suggested bringing along a fluffy friend to help ease any little anxieties.

“Pack familiar sleep essentials. Whether it’s a favourite blanket, toy or cot sheet from home, familiar smells and textures help acclimatise to a new environment.”

Pampers and World Sleep Society – an expert-led group dedicated to advancing sleep health – are keen to highlight the power of an uninterrupted night’s sleep for babies around the world regardless of where they lie their heads – and whilst it’s completely normal for babies under 12 months old to wake up to six times a night, adding travelling into the mix isn’t ideal.

When heading away from home for extended periods, Dr. Paul also added that you should consider travel times and safe travel sleep accordingly.

“Aim to drive or fly during sleep disruptions, planning for breaks to feed or change nappies,” added the expert.

Other clever experts at Pampers also added some top tips for ensuring your next trip away goes as smoothly as you deserve.

• Make day for play! Fresh air, natural light and physical play ahead of travelling will help
• Have an early start for a sleep night. Aim to book early morning flights, or load up the car as early as possible
• Quiet, cool and dark rooms create optimum sleeping environments so aim to recreate this wherever you are
• Create a calming bedtime routine. Even if you’re on-route or in a new location, stick to the stories they know and love
• Use and fresh and high quality, absorbent nappy. Might sound obvious but use those fabulous nighttime ones for travelling

Lala Kent is enjoying her life as a single mom of two and insists she is not done having kids yet!

In a recent chat with People, the Vanderpump Rules alum gave insights into her journey of motherhood.

Kent welcomed her second daughter Sosa five months ago and cannot believe how fast time is slipping.

“I’m like, ‘Where did the time go?’ When she had first appeared on Vanderpump Rules, [she was] just this tiny little bean, and now she’s a little person with all the personality in the world,” Kent noted of her oldest daughter Ocean, 4. “It feels really good.”

The 34-year-old reality TV star shared that her major concern for her growing kids was not how they gonna walk but it was actually planning birthday parties.

“Most people when they get pregnant, they’re like, ‘Oh my god. When they start walking, I’m afraid. I need to baby-proof the whole house.’ My biggest fear was that I had to plan birthday parties,” she shared

Sharing about the possibility of having another child Kent noted that she is leaving the door open.

“I play it by ear. I have not canceled out having one more,” she explained. “I think that I just, I’m not ready for that stage of my life to be over, you know, the having kids. The next time that my flesh and blood, I guess, in baby form would be when my girls have kids of their own. So I’m just not ready to be done with it, especially when I look at Ocean and Sosa as like brand new babies.”

“I’m like, ‘I got to have one more.’ Plus they’re so damn cute,” Kent added. “I just make cute kids.”

You may have thought such a terrifying ordeal — during which she was bound, gagged and threatened — would prompt a little introspection over her lifestyle choices; to reconsider the ‘me, me, me’ manta and dial down the publicity. Apparently not.

The robbery drama simply became fodder for more footage, with a whole episode of The Kardashians dedicated to the incident – her reunion with her baby children played out in front of the camera and milked for prosperity.

Yes, Kanye has become the ex from hell and this apparent Diddy sing-along with his daughter is every mother’s worst nightmare — but Kim’s life-through-a-lens obsession is surely as much to blame.

Hunger magazine teased three photos from his upcoming cover story spread, with his mom — who once ruled the Victoria’s Secret runway — happily sharing the news on her Instagram as she gushed that he is ‘destined for greatness.’ 

The black and white cover sees the budding model — who has three siblings — shirtless, wearing a black Karl Lagerfeld blazer and matching pants. 

Another image inside sees him in a more casual look, wearing Lagerfeld jeans and a black t-shirt. A third photo shows him shirtless in a black jacket and pants, posing outdoors.

Can you guess who this nepo baby is?

That’s right, it’s Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, the son of Heidi Klum, 51, and Seal, 62. 

Hunger magazine wrote in the caption: ‘Introducing our first ‘Fight Back’ cover star: Henry Samuel (@henrysamle).’

‘Stepping into the spotlight in a big way, Henry made his runway debut opening for Lena Erziak at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week. Now here’s his first-ever magazine cover, captured by Rankin wearing Karl Lagerfeld for Hunger.’

Heidi proudly took to her Instagram to re-share the cover as she praised her son over his modeling accomplishments. 

‘So proud of you, my beautiful Henry! Your first cover for @hungermagazine — what an incredible milestone!’ she wrote.

‘Watching you grow into the amazing young man you are today fills my heart with so much joy. The world is just beginning to see what I’ve always known—you are destined for greatness! ❤️✨ I love you @henrysamle.’ 

Henry made his runway debut in January as he walked at the Lena Erziak Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2025 show at Hotel le Marois, for Paris Fashion Week in France. 

He stole the show, modeling a backless black suit and cape with gold animal pins, going shirtless underneath as to flaunt his lean frame. 

His dark down dreadlocks were styled in a chic half-up half-down style as he showed off his thin mustache that exuded elegance.

During his second strut down the star-studded runway, Henry sported the same suit but had a belt-like wrap knotted around his waist with his hands in his pockets.

Right after the show wrapped, the America’s Got Talent judge took to her Instagram page to proudly post a video of her son taking on his first runway like a pro.

‘So proud of you Henry – Opening the Lena Erziak Haute Couture Show in Paris ❤️❤️❤️ @henrysamle @lena_erziak,’ she penned in the caption.

Henry’s entry into the modelling world drew a strong reaction online.

‘Funny how all these celebrities kids just get stuff handed to them! It’s such a joke! Others have to work for it,’ complained one.

‘All grown up and very handsome,’ gushed another, while a third added, ‘Looks just like his mom and dad!’

A fourth wrote, ‘Beautiful, isn’t he? Sometimes it’s just a matter of what gene you take from each parent. He won the lottery.’

Aside from Henry, Heidi also shares Johan, 18, and Lou, 15, with the Kiss from a Rose singer.

She also has daughter Leni, 20, whom she shares with ex Flavio Briatore, 74. 

Luckily for Henry, his older sister Leni — who is no stranger to modeling — gave him a few tips before he opened the star studded show.

He told Vogue Germany: ‘Leni told me to look straight ahead and walk as if I was balancing a book on my head. My mother told me to do my best and not forget to have fun.’

When asked by the outlet if he had been interested in a career in modeling his entire life his response was shockingly no.

‘Not necessarily,’ he expressed. ‘I have many interests — sports, music, film and fashion. I want to use the different creative experiences that are available to me to find the right path for my future.’

After Heidi’s split from Seal, she went on to marry German rocker Tom Kaulitz in 2019.
