Michael Mosley’s son to follow in his father’s footsteps of helping people lead healthier lives by publishing his first book

    [ad_1]

Michael Mosley spent his career helping people lead healthier lives – and now his son is due to follow in his footsteps.

Dr Jack Mosley will publish his first book, Food Noise, next month as he explores why we feel hungry, and the advance of recent weight loss drugs in combating that.

The trainee GP, an expert in products such as Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy, said he hoped Food Noise would help patients become more aware of the lifestyle and dietary advice they need in order to use the drugs safely.

The book will explain the science behind weight-loss products, providing recipes and seven-day meal plans to assist patients looking to shift the pounds and keep it off for good.

It will build on the legacy of Dr Michael, the popular broadcaster, medic and Daily Mail columnist, famed for his Just One Thing lifestyle series, who died while holidaying on the Greek island of Symi last summer.

His son Dr Jack said: ‘My father, Michael, believed in empowering people with knowledge so they could take control of their own health.

‘My hope is that this book might do exactly that – equip as many people as possible with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions around weight loss drugs and to show that changes to your lifestyle and improving your diet is essential to keep healthy while you are taking the medicine.’

It will precede the new cookbook by his mother, the best-selling author Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, Michael’s widow.

It will feature parenting strategies designed to make mealtimes run smoothly, as well as 50 nutritious family-friendly recipes, and be released in September.

Both books will be published by Octopus.

Dr Clare said: ‘The benefits of regularly eating together cannot be underestimated. I hope Eating Together brings joy to the table.

‘As a family we have been truly humbled by the countless stories we’ve heard from people who tell us Michael made a meaningful difference to their lives.

‘I am thrilled that Octopus is supporting Jack and me in continuing what we regard as a family mission – arming as many people as possible with the information they need to live healthier and happier lives.’

Anna Bond, Octopus director, said: ‘Octopus are very proud to be continuing to work with Clare Bailey Mosley on her bestselling cookbooks.

‘Jack’s book picks up his father’s legacy of identifying the health knowledge gap and filling it with researched, expert advice in a warm approachable style that we can all trust.’

Aijaz Aslam reflects on his mother’s passing

    [ad_1]

In a post shared to social media on Friday, actor Aijaz Aslam reflected on the emotions of spending his first Ramazan after his mother’s passing last year. “This Ramazan feels profoundly different without you, Ammi. As I sit in the place where you once sat and had iftari, the emptiness of your absence weighs heavily on my heart. The iftar table is filled with beautiful dishes, and the prayers echo through the evening, yet everything feels unfinished,” he wrote.

Building on the gravity of the loss, he added, “Your love, warm smile, and gentle touch remain precious memories that I hold dear, but they only remind me of how deeply I miss you this year. I find myself yearning for your comforting presence more than ever.”

Aslam added a prayer for his beloved mother in the heartfelt note. “May Allah envelop you in His peace and illuminate your resting place with His light. You are missed more than words can express, and my heart aches for you.”

Enduring his insurmountable grief, the Cheekh actor ended his post on a hopeful note. “I can only imagine how wonderful it must be for you and Abbu to share iftar in Jannah, sending blessings to Mifra, Bushra, Farah (my sisters), and all your grandchildren. Missing you so much.” He punctuated his note with the hashtag #FirstRamazanWithoutYou.

Aslam announced the heartbreaking news of his mother’s passing in October. The veteran actor’s grief was palpable as he penned a tribute to his beloved mother. “My beautiful mother just left this world for a better place. Her kindness, love, and wisdom will forever remain in my heart. As we grieve her loss, I kindly ask you all to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. May her soul find eternal peace,” he wrote, asking for prayers and reflection during the difficult time.

Aslam’s note revealed the depth of his loss, as he remembered his mother for her beautiful qualities which were evident in the love she shared with her family. The note was accompanied by a video of his mother in the hospital. The sombre clip brought out an intimate and vulnerable side to Aslam.

The actor’s post resonated with fans and friends, as they left their condolences, prayers and messages of support in the comments. Many spoke about how the bond between a mother and child is irreplaceable.

  • Mom Asks How To Deal With Her Kids’ Misbehaving ‘Gentle Parented’ Friends

Mom Asks How To Deal With Her Kids’ Misbehaving ‘Gentle Parented’ Friends

    [ad_1]

At this point, misunderstandings of what so-called gentle parenting actually is have basically eclipsed the method entirely. Somewhere along the line, the point of the method got lost and there’s an entire legion of parents who think it means just letting their kids do whatever they like without consequences.

One mom online is dealing with the repercussions of this, and it’s left her feeling not only furious, but unsure of how to respond.

The mom asked how to deal with ‘gentle parented’ kids’ misbehavior during playdates.

In case you’re new to this, or have formed your entire perceptions of gentle parenting based on social media content, it’s an approach to child-rearing that focuses on setting boundaries with kids and enforcing them with gentle redirection, rather than punishment or yelling.

This better aligns with both a child’s stage of brain development and the parent-child dynamics necessary to form a secure attachment, rather than an anxious, avoidant or disorganized one. But the key words there are “boundaries” and “enforcing.”

Without them, all you have is a parent who lets their kid do whatever they want with total impunity, and you end up with situations like this mom on Reddit has found herself in with her friend’s kids — who frankly sound like little hellions making everyone around them miserable.

RELATED: Your Parents Did A Great Job Raising You If You Were Taught These 11 Old-Fashioned Life Lessons

The mom said that the kids break things and hit her children every time they come over.

The mom stipulated that these kids are just inherently rambunctious boys, but their behavior goes beyond that. “Every time they come over, they break our things or my youngest ends up in tears from being hit or having something thrown at her,” she said.

That’s just normal kid stuff, of course — that’s why kids have parents, to basically be a proxy for their undeveloped frontal lobe, the part of the brain that governs cognition and impulse control. But it seems like these friends have no interest in that part of parenting.

“Every time this happens, the parents ask them to apologize, the kids refuse, and then the parents just shrug and drop it,” she wrote. It’s left, not only her and her husband, but their kids “very upset” about the lack of consideration, remorse, and respect shown by this family.

RELATED: Woman Tells Gentle Parenting Friend That Her Children Are ‘Horribly Behaved’ — ‘She Told Me Any Other Parenting Is Abusive’

The mom doesn’t know how to handle the situation since the boys’ parents refuse to rectify it.

“I know they are boys, so they will be rougher, and they are young,” the mom went on to say, “but what would you do in this scenario? Is it rude to ask the boys for an apology myself?” She doesn’t want to overstep and offend her friends, “but I also don’t want to save their feelings at the expense of my own children’s feelings.”

The thing is, though, there is no solution to this that doesn’t risk offending these people. That solution does not exist. This ultimately comes down to the very same problem that is creating this sticky situation in the first place — a lack of boundaries and the willingness to enforce them.

It is not in any way unreasonable for this woman to define what is and is not acceptable in her own home, and to ask others to abide by her rules. If her friends are unwilling to do so, that is their choice, but she is not obligated to continue to allow it. Their unwillingness to be the “bad guy” with their own children is nobody’s problem but their own.

Likewise, this mom’s unwillingness to ruffle her friends’ feathers in order to stop their hellion children from burning her house down every time they come over is nobody’s problem but her own!

But automatically assuming this situation is going to result in conflict is presumptuous. It very well may, sure, but as one mom in the comments wrote, “when kids act out in my home I have no issue correcting them if the parents don’t… [and] …most of the time the parents appreciate the backup.”

Who knows? If this mom clearly and kindly lays down the law and enforces it, she might even lead her friends by example toward not only being better house guests, but better parents too. There’s no risk-free option here, but the risk is worth it in the end, for her and her kids.

‘Unauthentic’ Meghan’s father brands accuses ‘pre-planned expressions’ | Royal | News

    [ad_1]

Thomas Markle has described his daughter, the Duchess of Sussex, as “unauthentic” and pinpointed her “pre-planned expressions.” Speaking just days after the release of Meghan’s show, With Love, Meghan, Thomas said: “Unfortunately, Meghan has never been authentic. She has to think about everything. She’s not spontaneous.”

With Love, Meghan aired on Netflix on March 4. The show, which consisted of eight episodes, shows Meghan as she cooks and hosts for several of her celebrity friends. Speaking to the Mail, he added: “Everything she says is pre-planned and rehearsed. It makes me laugh because I know all her looks and expressions. I know when she’s faking it for the cameras. She’s trying so hard to be perfect that she tenses up every time the camera is on her.”

Revealing whether he has sat down to watch the show, he added: “I might sit down and watch it one day, but I’m not sure.”

Thomas has himself worked in Hollywood on shows like “Married With Children” and “General Hospital”.

Speaking of his own experience of television shows, Thomas revealed what makes them successful. He said: “Cooking shows are horrendously boring unless the presenter has a passion for it. You have to be authentic to hold people’s attention.

“When you are stuffing the turkey’s a***, it has to look like you’re having fun doing it. The best cooks are funny, they mess up, they are human. She just wants to be perfect. It’s sad because she’s trying so hard to stay in the limelight.”

Just three days after the series aired, both Meghan and Netflix confirmed that a second series was on the way – with the episodes said to have already been filmed. The couple’s lucrative multi-million-pound deal with Netflix is set to expire in October.

  • Nearly half of children in UK with migrant parents live in poverty, new research by IPPR finds

Nearly half of children in UK with migrant parents live in poverty, new research by IPPR finds

    [ad_1]

A new report published last week by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) reveals that 46% of children in the UK with at least one parent born outside the country are living in poverty.

The 38-page report, Hidden hardships: The immigration system and child poverty, can be downloaded here. Research for the report was supported by Praxis, Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit (GMIAU), Project 17, and Support Action Women’s Network.

The report exposes deep-rooted barriers in the immigration system that trap many migrant families in financial hardship, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the Government’s forthcoming strategy to tackle child poverty.

According to IPPR, an estimated 1.5 million children in the UK—over one-third of all children in poverty—live in households where one or both parents were born abroad. These children are more than twice as likely as others to experience very deep poverty, meaning their family income falls below 40% of the median income. The report examines the specific challenges these children encounter and the lasting effects of immigration policies on their lives. It details how poverty in these families results in deprivation, restricting access to nutritious food, school trips, and stable housing.

Several key factors are identified that exacerbate poverty among migrant families. One major factor is the ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ (NRPF) condition, which bars many migrants from accessing benefits such as Universal Credit, child benefit, and social housing assistance. High visa fees and legal barriers further deepen financial struggles for these families.

IPPR noted: “The UK immigration system is inherently complex, shaped by ever-changing laws, multiple pathways to settlement, and stringent rules that often place migrant families in prolonged legal limbo. During these often lengthy processes, parents must navigate costly solicitors’ fees and meet many requirements to maintain or attain their status. Our research found that these burdens, together with restrictions such as NRPF, can push already low-income families into precarious financial positions, forcing them to sacrifice essential needs for their children to keep up with other demands.”

On immigration fees, the report notes: “Many immigration pathways come with extremely high fees and the immigration health surcharge (IHS). These are compounded by the requirement for repeated visa applications over a long period – notably, on the 10-year route to settlement. The fees can total tens of thousands of pounds, pushing families with limited incomes into severe debt.”

IPPR researchers spoke to affected families, highlighting their struggles. One father on the 10-year route to settlement is quoted as saying: “There is always tension in the house. When we borrow the money for the visa renewal, we have to eventually give the money back, which causes tension, even among the children. We can’t look after them properly because we always have to repay our debts. We can’t spend the money on our children when they ask us for things.”

While Section 17 of the Children Act 1989 requires local authorities to protect and support all children in need, regardless of their immigration status, its implementation remains inconsistent across the UK. Many migrant families struggle to access this support due to limited local government funding, bureaucratic hurdles, and a lack of clear guidance. In some cases, local authorities actively restrict access through systemic gatekeeping, particularly for families affected by NRPF. Additionally, the fear of immigration-related repercussions discourages many from seeking help, leaving vulnerable children without essential aid.

With the Government expected to soon publish a child poverty strategy, IPPR warns that any plan to tackle child poverty will fail unless it directly addresses these immigration-related issues. The think tank is urging the Government to:

    • Remove the NRPF condition for families on a five-year settlement route.
    • Ensure local councils consistently implement support for migrant families facing destitution.
    • Expand childcare provision for working parents with NRPF status to help them secure employment and improve children’s development.

IPPR research fellow Amreen Qureshi said: “The upcoming child poverty strategy is a crucial moment for the government to address some of the causes of poverty that lie within our migration system. If they get this right, not only will it enable them to make strides in their efforts to bring down child poverty, they could also help remove some of the huge financial pressures on cash strapped local councils.”

    [ad_1]

Gisele Bündchen was spotted for the first time since giving birth to her third child.

The swimsuit-clad supermodel enjoyed a day on the water with her 12-year-old daughter, Vivian, and boyfriend Joaquim Valente on Saturday.

Bündchen, 44, kept covered in a leopard-print one-piece with a long black sarong as the group relaxed on a yacht in Miami.

The Brazilian beauty shielded her eyes with a pair of sunglasses and tied her hair back in a bun for the outing.

Valente, for his part, went shirtless while manning the ship. The jiu-jitsu instructor, 37, slung a towel over his shoulder as he chatted with Bündchen and her daughter, who wore a floral pink bikini.

It’s unclear whether the couple’s newborn joined them on the excursion. Bündchen’s son Benjamin — whom she shares with ex-husband Tom Brady along with Vivian — was also not pictured.

Bündchen and Valente have kept a low profile since welcoming their first child together in early February.

While the two have yet to share any details about the infant, a source told People they had a son.

Although the child’s first name has been kept private, his middle name is River, per the outlet.

Before her relationship with Valente, the model was married to Brady for 13 years. During their marriage, Bündchen was a proud “bonus” parent to the NFL star’s now-17-year-old son, Jack, whom he shares with ex Bridget Moynahan.

However, she has vehemently denied cheating on Brady, and she and Valente kept mum about their relationship status for months.

Page Six exclusively revealed that the pair’s relationship had turned romantic in February 2024.

She began dating Valente in June 2023, Page Six was previously told. MEGA

Mother, 56, spent EIGHT days on an NHS hospital corridor in ‘inhumane and disgusting’ conditions with crippling stomach pain

    [ad_1]

A mother of three spent a record of eight days on a hospital corridor in ‘inhumane and disgusting conditions’ despite telling managers she had crippling stomach pain.

Sarah Dodd, 56, spent just under 213 hours on a trolley between 1 February to 9 February at the Beech C ward at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

According to the former solicitor’s diary of her ordeal, her make-shift bed was positioned in a six-foot-wide passage, close to bins for human waste.

Miss Dodd was diagnosed as having a perforated and infected gallbladder last November which developed into severe stomach pain in late January and early February.

On the advice of her GP, she went to the hospital’s A&E department and was guaranteed by staff her condition would be treated within a day.

But according to her diary, published in The Sun on Sunday, she spent the next eight days, hungry, without sleep and petrified.

Alarmingly, on her fourth day she was awoken by an elderly woman suffering from dementia, stroking her hair with her fingers.

The next day Miss Dodd was asked to move her meal tray to allow a patient to squeeze down the corridor, she did so, but her food was not returned to her.

On the eighth day, finally Miss Dodd, who is accommodating and mild-mannered woman, made a fuss.

She wrote down in her diary: ‘Day Eight: My mental health is at breaking point. I demand to speak to a beds manager.

    ‘After a brief stand-off, I finally get a bed on a ward’.

Reliving the harrowing nightmare, Miss Dodd added: ‘The way I was treated was disgusting and inhumane.

‘The hospital was so overcrowded, there were other people sleeping next to me in the corridor – I had fully grown men sleeping 3ft from my head. It didn’t feel safe.’

In 2017, two patients died at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital after being left on trolleys.

The first patient died from a cardiac arrest after 35 hours waiting in a corridor and the second had an aneurysm, and despite being taken into the resuscitation area died.

Miss Dodd’s experience has already been reported to Wes Streeting, the Health Secretary, who described it as: ‘absolutely appalling,’ and a ‘damning indictment’ of the state of the NHS.

She continues to suffer from nightmares because of what she experienced in the hospital (pictured)

NHS England figures showed 61,529 people waited more than 12 hours in A&E departments from a decision to admit to actually being admitted in January, up from 54,207 in December.

At least 16 NHS trusts admitted last year patients faced waits of two days or more, following the submission of a freedom of information request.

Miss Dodd, from Kidderminster, stopped working in 2011 because of a musculoskeletal pain condition called fibromyalgia.

She added: ‘By day eight, I couldn’t take it anymore.

‘I told them, “This is beyond a joke. People keep leaving so why can’t you find me a bed?”.

‘The nurses were very apologetic. They told me one sister had been raising my case at the staff meeting every day, but the bed managers said there was no space.’

By 11 February, Miss Dodd was discharged from hospital and returned home to her family.

However, she continues to suffer from nightmares because of what she experienced in the hospital.

Giving her view on who is to blame, Miss Dodd praised the nurses and doctors but described the managers as a ‘disgrace’.

‘On February 9, they found me a bed,’ Miss Dodd continued.

‘There were two more spare beds in that room. I was allowed to go home on February 11 and since then I have suffered constant nightmares where I am back in the hospital corridor.

‘I blame the NHS managers for what happened.’

Last month, NHS England Chief Amanda Pritchard admitted on Radio 4’s Today Programme, much of a £23 billion boost to the health care system was swallowed up in pay rises.

She said: ‘In the current financial context, we can’t keep asking the Government for more state funding… so we need to think much more radically, particularly about capital.

I think we now must consider private capital investment in the NHS.’

Sarah Shingler, chief nursing officer at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, told The Sun on Sunday: ‘We apologise to Ms Dodd if any aspect of her care fell short of the high standards we set ourselves.

‘We will look into the concerns she raised and will reply to her directly with a full response.’
