  • This Image Shows The Bond Between Mother And Child

This is the world’s first ever magnetic resonance image showing a mother and child’s bond.

The image is of neuroscientist Rebecca Saxe kissing her two month old son.

The child’s brain appears to be smoother and darker. This is because it has significantly less white matter. White matter is comprised of myelin, which is fatty tissue that acts as insulation for the wires that communicate messages inside your brain.

Kissing causes a chemical reaction in your brain, including a burst of the hormone oxytocin. Oxytocin is often referred to as the ‘love hormone’ because it stirs up feelings of affection and attachment.

Kissing activates the brain’s reward system; releasing dopamine which makes us feel good. It also releases vasopressin which bonds mothers with babies and romantic partners to each other. It also releases serotonin which helps to regulate our mood.

  • Do I Give Up My Son Or My Boyfriend?

A post on https://www.facebook.com/SingleMumsDen/ has caused uproar see below for why

We have been dating for almost two years and he has now proposed to marry me. We have so much fun together, he’s kind, honest and our connection is magical

But he says he doesn’t want my 5 year old son to live with us when we get married.

He also doesn’t want me to receive child and financial support for the child from the father in the meantime.

He says the boy should go to his father.

When he met me, I had broken my relationship with the father of my son because he was unfaithful and made other women pregnant.

I’ve brought up my son alone and the boy literally has no relationship with his father. But the father occasionally sends money or clothes to support the boy but he won’t take the child.

I love my son and I wish to continue to bring him up as my own. I also don’t have my own mother who I probably could have taken the child to, so my Mother having him isn’t an option.

But he says that the boy makes him uncomfortable as he looks like his father(the father to the boy is well known in our town).

Please advise me. Do I give up this child to one of my aunties who live some distance away or break up the relationship

  • Tonight I Cried With Him, He Didn’t Ask To Be Autistic

    Tonight, I cried with him…

To the lady in the bathroom:

Know that words hurt.. They ran deep to my soul tonight.. Why? I’m not sure as I’m usually this “strong person” and can “handle anything”, but tonight, your words hurt..

    ::Back Story::

Tonight was Tatum’s last night of swimming lessons. As a treat, they always let the kids jump off the diving boards if they want. So, after many jumps off the edge, Tatum FINALLY jumped off the board.. ALL.BY.HIMSELF.. This was HUGE as this is something he typically would be wayyy to scared to do. Unfortunately, because he jumped off the side for way to long, he only got a few rounds of the diving board before class was over.

He was mad. He kicked. He screamed. He yelled. He bawled.

I tried calming him down in the pool, however, he wasn’t having it. So we got out.

He was mad. He kicked. He screamed. He yelled. He bawled, all the way into the shower room where we got dressed. I was trying –everything– in my will power to calm him down. I couldn’t do it.

    This.Is.Autism…

20 minutes go by with NO behavior change. He was still mad. He was still kicking and screaming at the top of his lungs. I just kept saying, “Tatum, you need to calm down!”

Finally, a moment where he listened to me as I calmly said in a low voice, “Tatum, you need to calm down and listen to Mommy”…

In this moment of calm, I overheard a Mom say to another Mom, “Glad that’s not my kid, I’d beat his ass.” <—- and that my friends is when I started bawling…

You see, I didn’t “intend” for my child to get this disability. It is a struggle every.single.day.. He doesn’t know “calm”.. He fights until he no longer physically can. Somedays that’s 20 minutes, somedays that’s an hour.. And multiple times a day at that.. I wish I could help him, but I can’t….

But, let me tell you what…. Joining in his world of chaos and “beating his ass” won’t make it any better.

I cried with you tonight Tatum. Mama can only be so strong. People can be so rude. Especially people who have never dealt with a disability.

So.. After calming down, on both our parts, I asked Tatum if he was ready to go home for the night.. He gave me a kiss on the forehead and said, “Tatum naughty, sorry Mommy!”

You are NOT naughty little boy. We will learn how to calm down in stressful situations one way or another.. It will take us several tries to see what way works best for us, but I promise, we will figure it out. Don’t EVER think you are “naughty” for not knowing how to be calm.

And to the woman in the bathroom, I pray for you. I pray that you NEVER have a child with a disability. I pray that you know how to calm your babies each and everyday in every situation. I pray that your babies never act out in public.. But most of all, I pray that you think of my little boy tonight. I pray that God shows you how much you hurt me. I am strong for my little man, but tonight I wasn’t, and that’s because of your hurtful words. He saw my pain, he saw my weakness, and I’m NOT ok with that. I am his rock. I am supposed to remain calm while he’s not. And I wish you would have to and kept your words to yourself.

    ::Remember::

We all have hearts, and we all have feelings. Even the “strongest” of us get hurt

  • Why Do We Need A Black Breastfeeding Week?

Why do we need a black breasfeeding week?

    Reason 1)

You were afraid to nurse your young

lest fallen breast offend your master’s sight and he should flee to firmer loveliness.

And so you passed them, your children, on to me.

Flesh that was your flesh and blood

that was your blood drank the sustenance of life from me.

And as I gave suckle I knew I nursed my own child’s enemy.

    I could have lied,

told you your child was fed till it was dead of hunger.

But I could not find the heart to kill orphaned innocence.

For as it fed, it smiled and burped and gurgled with content

and as for color knew no difference.

    Yes, in that first while

I kept your sons and daughters alive.

But when they grew strong in blood

and bone that was of my milk

you taught them to hate me.

Put your decay in their hearts and upon their lips so that strength that was of myself

    turned and spat upon me,

despoiled my daughters, and killed my sons.

    You know I speak true.

Though this is not true for all of you.

  • Today I Licked My Childs Butt Ice Cream

Y’ALL!!!! I am DONE with these kids!! I learned a hard lesson today…one I wasn’t prepared for and I feel like I’ve been through a trauma! I need prayer! 🤦🏼‍♀️😵💩

I got Blakely an ice cream cone (yes the McDonald’s machine was working🤷🏼‍♀️). Well she walks into the living room and hands me her cone (half eaten like everything I give her) and I know all you moms have been there. We as moms pretty much live off of the food our kids don’t eat so I licked it before it dripped. I notice she is standing there looking at me like this 👉🏼😐.

    I ask her: “what’s wrong?”

And she says: “Is it okay?!”

    🥺😳😨🤭

At this point I’m scared b/c I don’t know what just happened. I think maybe she dropped it in her room and was scared to say. We stand there looking at each other and the ice cream cone. And this fool says: “I accidentally wiped my butt with it”

    🤢🤢😳😵🤭🤭

Excuse me?!! With this ice cream cone I just licked?! Wtf!! I am coming unglued…so I ask this child “How do you accidentally wipe your butt with an ice cream and WHY did you give it to me to eat????” 😳😑🤐

She looks me dead in my face and says “I used the wrong hand to wipe but it was just pee mommy”

    🤮✌🏼✌🏽🤯

DONE! Someone come get these kids. I cannot even handle it. If y’all need me I’ll be washing my mouth out with Clorox. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😒

  • This Is Grief, It Doesn’t Expire

This photo was not taken days, weeks or months after my son died. It wasn’t taken within the first year after his death.

It was taken today. Over 2.5 years later.

This is grief. It doesn’t expire or come with an end date. It cuts through your heart and seeps to the deepest spaces where it will reside for a lifetime.

Holding your child’s lifeless body one last time…your brain trying to process the unimaginable while your heart is trying to memorize every detail of their face, their hands, their scent. This moment will never be erased from the memory. This is an image carried forever. It shows up unexpectedly and unannounced. Year, after year, after year.

We all have what we call “our season”. For those who have never experienced losing a child, their season is a favorite time of year because it’s their choice weather, carries their interest of activities, they enjoy the smell in the air or look forward to a special holiday.

When a child loss parent mentions their “season” it is much different.

Our season does not make us excited. It is something we dread instead of look forward to. It is a time period we want to skip. Put us in a coma and wake us when it’s over. Our season comes with onset anxiety and PTSD. The smells and temperature of our season remind us of birthdays that will never happen, the memories of our sweet angels when they were with us on earth and the worst day of our lives.

During our season it takes everything out of us to keep going. We are emotionally exhausted. We are distant to everyone in our lives. We do not always respond to texts, emails or answer calls because it’s too much right now. We stay in more, declining invites we would normally say yes to. We don’t have the energy to fake the smile and pretend life is great. We are forgetful and unreliable.

Our season is full of broken dreams and questions we will never have the answers to. The what if’s, what would they look like, what would they be doing now.

Each year we have hope the next one will be easier. But it isn’t. It’s always the same, it’s always hard.

When our season passes a weight is lifted and we catch our breath thankful it is over. Shocked we survived once again.

If you know someone going through this be patient and kind. Expect nothing from them. If they cancel plans at the last minute do not be angry with them. Don’t take their actions (or lack of actions) personally. It‘s not you. They are using every ounce of strength they have to find their way through the darkness and back to the light. This is exhausting and they don’t have the energy for anything else.

My season begins very soon. You could say I am in the pre-season phase…I feel it coming. Almost a month away from what would have been a 3rd birthday. Thinking about it knocked me to my knees today, the anxiety suffocating.

But there is a difference between this year and last year, and the one before. This time I know it’s not going to be easier. This year I am accepting it and not fighting it. I know what’s coming. I know what it does to me. I have learned and understand what my limitations are during this timeframe of my life.

I am going to stand still allowing it to hit with full force, a tidal wave crashing into me. As I lose my balance I will fall. I‘ll let the wave of grief wash over every inch of my body and hold my breath until it’s over.

When it has passed I will rise. I‘ll stare at the sun setting in the horizon and remind myself, it hurts this much because you love him so much. I wouldn’t trade that love for anything. Not even to take away this pain.

  • Heat Stroke In Babies And Toddlers

HEAT STROKE IN BABIES & TODDLERS

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke don’t just appear out of the blue. There are signs of heat stress, which, if left untreated, can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The initial signs of heat stress include:

    • Heat rash that doesn’t go away when the skin is cooled, called “prickly heat”. This rash looks like a red cluster of pimples or small blisters on or around the

NECK – UPPER CHEST – GROIN – ELBOW CREASES.

    • Heat cramps happen as muscles and bodily systems deplete their supply of electrolytes, particularly salt and water, and as a reaction to lower blood volumes. These cramps usually occur in the ABDOMEN – LEGS – ARMS and are accompanied by MOODINESS and FUSSINESS. If a baby, toddler or young child starts showing signs of crankiness or fussiness this can be an early indication of heat stress.

    • Watch for unusual erratic and repetitive behaviors, such as repeatedly standing and sitting.

If the above symptoms worsen and start to include:

    • Intense thirst

    • Dizziness or fainting

    • Pale skin

    • Rapid but weak heart rate

    • Headache

    • Nausea and vomiting

    • Concentrated pee & decreased output (yellow/orange)

Then your child is becoming dehydrated and likely has heat exhaustion.

    TREATMENT:

    • IMMEDIATELY STOP ALL ACTIVITY !!!

    • Remove clothing

    • Move to a cool place

    • Give cool water with a teaspoon of salt per quart, or sports drink. (Cold water and salt tablets can actually increase cramping symptoms.) (not for babies)

    • Gently massage child’s muscles

    • Elevate feet on a pillow if they will lie down

Rest and rehydration is usually enough, though some children may need more time to recover than others. Hospitalization is rarely needed.

    DO call your family doctor.

  • Breastfeeding Is Hard Enough

First thing first, did you know that breastfeeding your child is the MOST nutritious thing your baby can consume?

Did you know if your baby was to get sick the baby’s latch will send your body a signal and make NATURAL medicine for your child? Throughout Ariyah’s life i think she’s been sick about 3 times. which is GREAT for her to be 15 months old.

Do you even know what breastfeeding moms had to go through to breastfeed? Do you know when i first had my baby nobody ever told be about how bad afterbirth was? ON TOP of cluster feeding (which is when your baby wants to be latched for hours and hours) do you know your nipples bleed and get scabs when you first start breastfeeding?

Do you imagine how painful that is? Do you know when your baby latches it causes you to have contractions because the baby sucking gives your body a signal the baby is out and & May start the healing process? Did you think about sore nipples plus contractions and clusterfeedind all at once? Do you think someone that was this dedicated is gonna give a fuck if you want us to suffocate our child after going through all of that?

Did you know we don’t give a fuck about your opinion 😊

  • Baby Badly Bitten At Daycare

So, I have really been debating sharing this or not. However, I feel that if someone I knew was looking into a daycare for their child I would want them to know NOT to use this one.

My 3 year old daughter came home the end of May with 13 bites all over her body…. not one, two, or even 3, but 13! I was informed 10 minutes before I arrived to pick her up that day that she had been bitten 5 times on the stomach but that none of them broke the skin. Before I even got there I was furious. In my mind I was thinking five times is way to excessive for my baby to be bit while being under anyone’s “supervision “.

When I picked her up and got her into the car I was distraught! I literally had no words… I couldn’t even make myself talk to the staff, not that they offered me any kind of explanation other than a little boy bit her and pushed her down outside, but the teacher didn’t notice the bites until they came in for snack. Ok, where were you while my daughter was screaming and crying in the dirt on the playground for help!??

I called my mother crying and upset and asked what we should do, I could not send my baby back to a place where she had been allowed to be abused. So we made a report and pressed charges, all of which were sustained by DFCS and Bright from the Start. She had bites, and bruises, and marks on her face from what appears to have been caused by being hit in the face per her pediatrician. My 3 year old has teeth mark scars on her body now because someone wasn’t doing their job! Please ask around and research before placing your babies in a daycare! This was at a childcare network in Henry county on Jodeco rd.

  • Don’t Let Your Kids Act Up

I picked my son up from his fathers today. He was grounded from his tablet before he went because I am no longer taking his attitude. I don’t know about other parents of six year olds, but the way he has been talking to me over the past 4-6 weeks is inexcusable and will not be tolerated anymore.

I had told him that if he was well behaved tonight, he could have his tablet back tomorrow.

We had a talk not only today on the way home, but multiple times over the weekend about how his bad choices had consequences. He was warned that he was going to have 3 strikes: tablet goes, then the tv goes, and then it’s the bedroom for the rest of the day.

Not even the first hour of being home, the attitude started. By attitude I mean dictating what he is and is not doing, not listening, telling me no, yelling at me, etc. I told him he was not getting his tablet back tomorrow. Then a few minutes later, the next attitude outburst came. TV is now taken away. 2 strikes. Then it was the 3rd attitude outburst. So now my son is eating dinner in his bedroom and afterwards will be in his bed staring at the ceiling for the rest of the evening. He needs to learn.

I’m not posting this to shame him. I posting this in case there are any other parents that are going through the same and doubting themselves. YOU ARE A GOOD PARENT. YOUR CHILD IS A GOOD KID. But they need to learn while they are still little because it’s even harder to teach them as they get older.

Before we know it our children are going to be young men and women and I sure am not letting my son into this world thinking it’s okay to act however he wants. I refuse to let my son be disrespectful to anyone. I refuse to let my son do as he wants instead of following the rules.
