  • I Left My Baby To Die Alone In The Cold

I’m 62 with a husband, 2 grown children and a grandmother to 4 I have a car and a mortgage and to the world a typical happy mum and grandmother but none of them know my secret and they never will. The shame of anyone knowing would kill me and tear my family apart. Nobody can ever know that I killed my baby.

Please don’t judge me before you know my story.

I was brought up in a strict religious family. My parents were very loving and I had a happy childhood but our lives revolved around the church. school, mass on Sundays the works I never knew any different all my friends families were the same it was normal right until I met Craig.

I was 14 and had never had a boyfriend before, he was cute and funny and had all this freedom that I had never known. I quickly fell in love. My parents would never have let us date. Craig was 17 had left school and was at college being older he had more experience than me, I’d never even kissed a boy!

We would meet in secret whenever possible and one day we had sex. We had fooled around but never done the deed never even talked about it so we didn’t use contraception foolishly thinking I couldn’t get pregnant the first time right.

Two months later after missing another period we did a test and it came back positive I thought Craig loved me but he never spoke to me again. I was now 15 pregnant and alone. My parents would have gone crazy and I would have been an outcast from my family and friends I didn’t know what to do. I tried ignoring it hoping it would go away that the test was wrong but my slowly swelling belly told me different so I hid my little problem.

I would take sanitary towels and through them away so my mom would think I was getting my period, pass morning sickness off as exam nerves and hide under loose baggy clothes. I spent hours hiding in my room pretending to study but really I was trying to work out what to do. Then one night in december the pains started and my water broke. It hurt so much and I was scared.

I waited until my parents went to bed before sneaking out. I started walking and the pains grew stronger and I found myself at my church. I needed to push so I snuck round the side out of view and gave birth to my beautiful son. I was terrified all of a sudden it was real. I managed to cut the cord and wrapped him in my cardigan but i couldn’t take him home.

So I left him on the steps of the church I thought someone would find him and take him home. I quietly snuck back home and cried all night wanting my baby. The next day I pretended to be ill  so I could watch the news of the good Samaritan who found my baby instead I saw the news report of a body being found of a newborn baby.

That night around dinner we prayed for the soul of the baby and my parents dammed the evil mother who murdered her child. I knew then I couldn’t tell them the truth instead I have lived with my secret ever since.

Please don’t judge me too harshly I was a young girl with nowhere to turn besides nobody could judge me more than I do, I am now in my early 60’s and urge any young girl out there who is pregnant and scared to reach out to someone to get help!

  • Should The Safe Haven Law Be Introduced In The UK?

Should the safe haven law be introduced in the uk?

For those of you who aren’t aware what safe haven is it is a law in the United states where anyone can abandon their baby at a designated point and hand over all responsibilities of the baby to the state.

According to sources as many as  50 newborns are abandoned in the uk every year with many dying from the cold or exposure so is it time to bring the safe haven law here to the uk?

Since its arrival in 1999 the safe haven law has saved thousands of babies from injury or even death as they are no longer abandoned in bins, alleys and roadsides in the United states but does this law encourage women to not use contraception or be responsible?

The safe haven law allows mothers to take their babies to locations such as fire stations, hospitals, police stations, churches and baby boxes. Places that are manned 24 hours a day, without risk of prosecution for child endangerment or abandonment.

Would further sexual education be a better option? All women over the age of 12 be given compulsory contraception unless trying to conceive?  Many women get pregnant accidentally for many reasons such as contraception failure or rape and go on to ignore’ the signs or hide the pregnancy until it’s too late and end up despairing about what to do with the secret baby.

Introducing this law would surely help those woman to frightened or not willing to raise a baby to make sure that the baby would be cared for in a safe environment or would it bring a rise in abandoned babies to the uk?

Mums advice spoke with several mums about their views on this and the may point they brought up was how would the UK be able to afford these points being manned 24 hours a day, what if the mum changed her mind would she be able to get the baby back? It was also added that mother who leaves their child needs to be seen incase she is in crisis and needs help.

Kyrah has a chronic disease a terminal illness and still no care plan while alder hey trust were busy trying to make me look bad I built my own case on them and now its all falling perfectly in to place they used my daughter’s life to blackmail me while I give them every opportunity possible to work with us they did not want to do that they had their own plan.

I had so much respect for them before they tried everything to tear us apart now I wonder how these people even sleep at night knowing what there doing is wrong on so many levels

  • 1 In 8 Couples Are Infertile-Don’t Tell Them What To Do

Think about this: 1 in 8 couples are infertile. Chances are, you know someone who is secretly dealing with infertility, it could be a close friend, relative or neighbour.

Think about the simple task of going to the supermarket and walking down the baby aisle and the many emotions this are triggered.

Think about their pain when asked to attend a friend’s baby shower, or scrolling through Facebook or Instagram and seeing so many new mums cradling their precious new-born, or seeing baby scans posted.

Think about the complete devastation of finally getting pregnant and then losing the baby they always prayed for, and then the ignorance of people’s comments “oh you can try again you are only young” many woman who have a miscarriage are met with insensitive but well-meaning comments .

Think about your own children and how much you love them. Think about those women and men who never get a chance to experience the love they long for, who try to adopt but are often unable to or spend their lives savings trying to conceive.

We do not expect mums not to post photos of their scans or new-born baby photos, we do not want supermarkets to hide the baby stuff, this is something that cannot really be avoided, what we can ask that if someone loses a baby no matter the gestation to listen and care and not make the insensitive comments, a lose is a lose no matter how far gone they are, do not give a couple who are infertile tips on how you got pregnant, trust me they have tried everything, only give your opinion if you are asked for it.

1 in 8 are infertile these statistics are so high so chances are you may be faced with one of these conversations, be kind, be compassionate and put yourself in their shoes.

  • How Do I Get Over A Friend Having An Abortion

Has anyone had to cope with their very close friend/family getting an abortion? I am trying to get over/passed it before it happens so we can move on with our friendship, but it is wearing so heavily on my heart I can’t bear it any longer and I’m not sure I will ever be able to look at her the same again.

She is my Fiancé’s cousin, but they were raised as siblings.. she has offered to carry a baby for us NUMEROUS times and I’ve always been able to vent to her about my struggles with infertility.

She isn’t always the most responsible person on earth and she called me a week ago saying she thought she was pregnant and the guy she had been sleeping with is just a friend he doesn’t want anymore children.

Now please don’t think of me the wrong way, I’m IN NO WAY saying she should give the baby to us. (Not that we would decline that offer but regardless) I just didn’t expect her to choose anything other than life for this baby. She has always been on the same page as me when it came to being Pro-Life.. and now that it’s happened to her she’s turned a 360. She has an appointment scheduled for friday to terminate.

I’m just looking for some advice, do I say something, ignore and move on after all it is her body her choice, but I am finding it so hard to understand and accept, we would give anything to have a new life to call our own, yet she has been given the gift of a baby and she plans to destroy this.

Am I just being jealous and bitter? Would I feel differently had I already had a baby of my own, what would you do?

  • I Expect Top Care Off Staff Not My Boy Left Like This

When I leave my son in the care of the nursing staff I expect top quality care not my poor boy being left

I have just walked into my sons room and his nurse was over by his cot she realised I was behind her and scurried out only for me to see my son like this his leg twisted right behind him

For those who know my son Jacob know he can’t get himself like this because of his muscle tone it is impossible !!!!!!

He was diagnosed with dystonia 6 months ago which made him bend in half backwards however this is not dystonia as his whole body would do this if it was.

He has been out like this and left he was screaming in pain

Luckily my friend was with me to take photos as I sorted him out and comforted my distressed and in pain baby boy.

Not only did the nurse do this she also messed up his antibiotics and left a syringe attached to his tube instead of taking it away like she should.

Also a few weeks ago my friends walked In to Jacobs room to find a pillow over his face and his machine had been beeping for twenty minutes when they looked back on the review of the machine how can they be so incompetent

Yes I have been to pals yes I have spoken to the ward manager but this is not the first time something like this has happened or a fuck up on Jacobs meds, I wish I could be by his side every waking minute but that is not possible, I have no choice but to trust these trained staff but they are failing my son.

I am devastated he is a little boy who deserves the right care and no fucks ups.

    What else can I do?

To follow more of Jacob’s journey take a look of their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/thelittleboywhostolemyheart/

  • Brutally Honest Post About Breastfeeding

    “This is mastitis.

After hitting the 1 year breastfeeding mark last Sunday I felt compelled to share my story.

Breastfeeding did NOT come easy for me. My milk came in after 5 days. I wasn’t aware that it could take that long, I didn’t even necessarily know what “milk coming in” meant. (Nobody ever taught me.) I was the only mother breastfeeding on my ward. One women did try to breastfeed, but switched to formula after 12 hours because she “had no milk” (nobody taught her either.)

While the other babies slept with full bellies, my son screamed and cried attached to my breast through the night. (What was cluster feeding? Nobody told me) When I got home, problems started to arise-my nipple literally cracked in half. I have never felt such pain, I dreaded every feed, but persisted with tears in my eyes until I was healed. (Nobody taught me that breastfeeding could be painful, nobody taught me what a good latch looked like) When feeding my son out in public I would either go to the bathroom or pump at home and feed him with a bottle.

Because I felt embarrassed and as though I would make others uncomfortable. This resulted in clogged ducts and engorgement. (I feed freely in public now, and have done for a long time. Fuck this backwards society!)

    Then came mastitis.

I remember waking up at 3am shivering, putting on my dressing gown and extra blankets and trying to feed my son. The pain. It was excruciating. I was shaking and sweating but freezing to my bones. At 5 am I woke up my boyfriend and told him I thought I needed to go to the hospital. We got my stepdad, a doctor, he took my temperature and said it was slightly high, but to take a paracetamol and try to sleep. 7am comes, I’ve had no sleep, and now I’m vomiting, he takes my temp again. 40 c. I had developed sepsis overnight.

This was because I was not able to recognise the more subtle signs of mastitis (as I had seen no redness that day) I was rushed to resus, given morphine, anti sickness and the strongest antibiotics they could give, and separated from my baby for two nights.

    I was Heartbroken.

During my hospital stay, I repeatedly asked for a pump, because if I didn’t drain the breast my mastitis would get worse (and it did) The nurses response was “we’re having trouble finding one as we don’t get many breastfeeding mothers here”

There’s a lot more to this story but my point is, the lack of support and education surrounding breastfeeding is just terrible. And I don’t mean in terms of relaying the benefits of breast milk and handing out lactation support leaflets. I mean general education, about the basics of breastfeeding, about cluster feeding, about the problems that can arise and what to do, how to spot them and how to remedy them. The peddling of formula in the 60’s/70’s has broken the vital cycle of passing knowledge from one generation to the next. (I know formula saves lives and serves a great purpose) but in the past we would have had our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and friends, all giving their support, their wisdom and their knowledge.

But many of our mothers and grandmothers don’t know, as they never breastfed.

Women are not expected to give birth alone, but somehow today they are expected to breastfeed alone, and not share their experience with others, and this is why so many breastfeeding relationships end before they’ve even really started. The breastfeeding rates in the UK are shockingly low. The health system, and society in general is failing breastfeeding mothers. I see many professionals push breast is best almost aggressively in some cases, and yet there is no real support post baby. Breastfeeding is HARD, it needs to be taught and it needs to be learned. Just like walking, talking, reading and writing it may be natural, but it does not always come naturally.

And this is what I should have known but didn’t, this is what I might have known if breastfeeding rates were higher, if this society didn’t objectify breasts. If new mothers knew just how difficult it can be at first, more would take themselves to prenatal breastfeeding classes, buy books, join forums, and ask more questions – But we don’t, we just assume that it will feel as natural as breathing. Because no one ever told us.”
