My Son Died But He Didn’t Have to
Any of you on here who pray please keep me in your prayers tomorrow if you can.
Our son was stillborn on 14th June 2017 at 37+6 weeks. Absolutely perfect in every way and not just a mothers love for her child, the autopsy states that every organ, limb, blood vessel etc was formed and functioning perfectly.
At 33+3 weeks I had reduced movements and went to hospital. They performed a scan and discovered a problem with my placenta. I was admitted, put on steroids and told that I’d be staying put. (I also had a history of earlier births with my twins who stopped growing at 33 weeks and were delivered at 33+5 weeks). At this time my son weighed approx 5.5 pounds.
I was nervous but happy with his weight as my girls were much smaller so I thought he’d be fine if delivered soon.
Then 2 days later I was sent home all ok and told to just come back for another scan. 2 days later I was readmitted with more reduced movements. I’d had a total of 3 reduced movements in the space of a week. I was given a Doppler scan which showed everything ok and sent home. The doctor laughed at my concerns and dismissed me.
2 weeks later at a standard appointment I tried to ask how big my son was and was abruptly cut off and told no they wouldn’t tell me. In hindsight had this egotistical arsehole looked he’d have seen that between 34 weeks and 37 weeks my son had gained approx 0.661 pounds when in fact he should have gained at least 2 pounds.
2 days later my son died and I was in labour.
My world ended.
We were initially told my son tested positive for the most rarest of genetic conditions, but with errors in hospital and sample degrading we couldn’t get a second opinion. This condition can cause stillbirth however the autopsy states that the fact my son had zero physical characteristics it’s not possible to say it caused his death.
The geneticist stated that “your son would have been so intellectually disabled that he wouldn’t have had the capacity to breathe you’re better off he died when he did – the divorce rate among parents of intellectually disabled children is so high”
I just wanted to shout bullshit at her.
My entire argument has been from day 1 I had a scan at week 34 and no further growth/development scans. The only way to check a placenta is working is to do a growth scan. If I was given a growth scan at either 36 or 37 weeks they would have seen he stopped growing and could have delivered him early.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that this genetic condition did not affect him in any way, if he even had it.
The point of me sharing this is do not always listen to doctors demand to be seen, force them to check you, do not let them tell you that you know nothing, a mother often knows when something isn’t right, I wish I had made them listen to me.

Soothing Words After Losing A Loved One
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying you found it hard to sleep.
I spoke to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
“It’s me, I haven’t left you, I’m well, I’m fine, I’m here.”
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many things and memories of me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I’m not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my hand on you; I smiled and said, “it’s me.”
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, “I never went away.”
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew…
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over… I smile and watch you yawning
and say “good-night, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.”
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I’ll rush across to greet you and we’ll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out…then come home to me.

Am I Asking To Much To Be Able To Change My Childs Nappy?
Chris Boneyard Mau has taken to social media to rightfully complain about the lack of changing facilities in the gents toilets.
Chris said “I’m getting pretty sick of having to change my daughter on a disgusting floor because the only changing table in the place is located in the women’s bathroom. It’s crazy to imagine I know but there are guys who take care of their kids too you asshats. If it’s a public place with public restrooms in the generation of equality among genders and races then how about making sure us fathers can change our children’s diapers on a goddamn changing table like the mother’s can. Am I asking too much?
The circumstances of the situation left very little options for privacy, I had taken her for a walk when this happened so there was no car and the only counter space was a 3 inch gap between the 2 sinks”.
Surely there should be changing facilities in all public toilets, there is often changing tables in the disabled toilets but not in all areas, times need to change, men should be able to change their childs nappy in a safe and clean environment.

I Feel Bitter And Jealous That My Baby Is Not Healthy
I posted this in response to someone feeling a certain way about other’s healthy kids & their heart warrior & their own heathy kids, but I wanted to share it to see if anyone else feels/felt this way because I honestly feel so guilty about it.
I can’t wait to NOT feel this way but I can’t help it maybe I’m just not as good of a person as I thought so here goes.
I feel like garbage for having these feelings but my husband & I tried so hard to get pregnant, it took so long & then to find out at 26 weeks our son has a complex CHD & will need the 3 stages of open heart surgery to reroute everything & then a transplant as a young adult.
I’m now 29 weeks & can’t help but feel bitter & jealous when I see healthy babies, especially with people I know that weren’t trying to get pregnant/didn’t want to & weren’t ready & don’t even get me started on the mum’s I know who considered abortion or adoption for their healthy child I’m like WHY couldn’t I have a healthy baby!
I did EVERYTHING “the right way” I went to school, I got a great career, I dated for a long time, then married, then bought a house & then & only then when I felt I could give my child everything it needed, everything I didn’t have as a kid myself, did I try to conceive.
I feel guilty for feeling that way especially to my friends’ kids or even my cousin who did NOT want a baby, she continued to use drugs in her first trimester, hard ones. She considered abortion & adoption, she continues to smoke cigarettes. NO ONE supported her decision to keep her baby…but SHE gets a healthy baby?
I know I sound so rude & judge-y but REALLY! I’m beyond jealous especially because I was the only one who encouraged her to clean up & do right by her baby after she made the decision to keep it. I stood behind her when no one else did because we are both pregnant right now, just a week apart… AND SO with all that we are going to face with our son before & after he is born, me having to relocate will most likely cost me my job & who knows if we will be able to keep our house on only my husband’s income & who knows if my husband’s employer won’t fire him because of all the time he will need off between surgeries & what not & who knows if our son will even live… when it rains it f*cking pours!!!
I will love my child but I am sad he will not be healthy!

That’s Right It’s Not The Same Girl
“Haters will say it’s not the same girl. Her tattoo doesn’t match up. She’s got a different iPhone. Her hair is different. Bla bla bla…
“And they’re right… it’s not the same girl.
“And its not because in 4 yrs she had two pregnancies and two children, and she got a new iPhone.
“It’s because they are two different people. It’s because the girl before was miserable. She was hungry. She was proud of herself when she didn’t eat until she was full because that’s what they tell you to do. She was told she looked good in skinny jeans and no one told her she didn’t fit into their brands. She was never discriminated against.
“She acted like she wasn’t embarrassed to eat a burger because people would know and think that surely she eats so healthy the other time. They assumed her size equated to healthy.
“They didn’t know that she starved herself all day and into the next to eat that burger. No one knew that her day was spent constantly worrying about gaining weight, that she would even dream about it. Really, dream about eating, and waking up worried. Every. Night…This girl changed. I changed.
“I changed because I realised when I looked into my children’s eyes I never wanted to fail them, I never wanted for them to not feel loved.
“But how could I love them when I didn’t love myself?
How could I let them see me on the scales day after day?
How could I let them see me not eat?
How could I let them know that I woke in the middle of the night with anxiety that I ate too many calories in one day?
How could I tell them to love their body if I didn’t love mine?
…I no longer wanted the expectation of losing the baby weight and the old “it’s been a year now”
I no longer wanted to worry that anti-depressants would make me fat and sit there and have anxiety attacks and think “well, at least I’m not putting on weight”
I didn’t want to have my bones sticking out to determine my self worth and be miserable.
“I realised all this because I nearly fell back into it, truthfully, I nearly thought that I had to become thin quick and fit into social media, into this world of instagram and Facebook, in a world of shakes, tea and diet pills. I nearly doubted myself based on my weight, and then my son asked if he could stand on the scales after me. He watched me as he always does and said “my turn” like it was fun after watching me do it so many times.
“I don’t hate you old girl. I don’t. I don’t hate the person I was. Because I didn’t know then that I deserved love. I thought that if I looked a certain way I would be a better person.
I didn’t realise that what I weigh doesn’t define if I’m a decent human or not. Not now, not ever…
“And I realised now more than ever when I saw that little boy step on the scale.
He deserves love. He deserves never to think that his weight defines if he’s a good enough person…
“That little boy should live his life and learn that food is there to nourish him and help him grow and that food is NOT his enemy…
“You don’t need anyone’s permission to love yourself. Don’t wait for a ‘moment’ to learn love yourself, do it now. Life is so short, don’t waste it hating yourself, the world will do that for you…
“If I got hit by a bus tomorrow I would never want my tombstone to read “didn’t starve herself to please other people on the internet because she had cellulite” I’d want it to say “she didn’t die with any regrets, she lived with all she had and she loved with all her heart”
“And she threw those damn f***ing scales out. ✌🏼🤘🏼

Great Advice To All New Mums
Great advice to ALL new mums…
“22cm or 8.6 inches. That is the exact diameter of a paper plate, AKA the fine china in our house. It is also the average diameter of a placenta.
“After a baby is born, mothers are told to take it easy for at least 4-6 weeks. There are good reasons for that! One of those reasons is that after the baby is born, mothers are left with a wound on the inside of their uterus where the placenta was attached. That wound will take at least 4-6 weeks to completely heal.
During that time they are still susceptible to infection and hemorrhaging. Even if they have a complication-free vaginal delivery and feel okay, they will still need to take care of themselves and not overdo it for those first several weeks postpartum.
To those mothers, rest! To their husbands, partners, parents, in-laws, friends – let them rest! Help out as much as you can and don’t let them overdo it!
As the saying goes “one week in bed, one week around the bed, and 2 weeks around the house.”
Edited to add: I am not a medical professional. This is only meant to be common sense advice to take it easy. I do not mean for women to lay around for 4 weeks not moving at all. Listen to your body and take care of yourself! Talk to your doctor or midwife if you have any questions” – via Labor of Love – Lancaster, PA

This Is Me At The Peak Of My Postpartum Depression
‘This is me, at the peak of my postpartum depression. I asked Shiloh to take a picture of me, so I could remember how far I’d come, if I ever came out of it. I was lower than low, I wasn’t even myself.
Looking back at this photo I remember perfectly the pain I felt, the dread in waking up everyday, the physical pain that engulfed me from thoughts in my brain. I had never known consuming, mind altering emotion such as this that flooded every fiber of my being, making its way through my veins like a plague.
This is what postpartum depression looks like, or at least what it did for me. I didn’t want to leave this life, but it seemed like the only way that would rid me of the pain I was in. I didn’t ask for it, it wasn’t welcome.
But there it was, and I kicked its ****ing ass and beat it to the ground before I let it consume me, or much worse, take my life’ –

Stop Asking Couples When They Are Having Kids
‘-we are just enjoying being newly married
-we have some travelling we want to do first
-I’m just focusing on my career right now…..
These are just a few of the reasons I used (with a forced smile) to mask what was really going on. I wasn’t always that pleasant. One day I responded with ‘it’s not that f***ing easy, you know’. I had just got my period that morning…. again.
They would tell me that I’m not going to be young forever or that my maternal clock was ticking. And believe me, I knew it. I just didn’t need to hear it from everyone else.
Trying to conceive isn’t easy unless you are a highly fertile 17 year old, that could fall pregnant just by talking about it. The odds of conception and retaining a pregnancy are actually pretty shit, topped off with the huge amount of people that are reproductively challenged with polycystic ovaries, endometriosis etc etc. And I was one of them….
I remember the day, vividly. I had to go to work after we had the appointment and I thought that was it for me. No kids. My husband, always the optimistic one said that we would try the treatments suggested and that it was not over. We even had a very frank discussion about adopting. We were told to expect a long road ahead, if we decided to take it.
IVF sucks. It is the most time consuming, invasive, expensive and emotionally painful roller coaster I have been on. It actually broke me. You have so much invested in the process, financially and emotionally that it consumes your every thought.
When you are having difficulty conceiving, it seems everyone around you is falling pregnant. It’s easy to be happy for them at first but that brave face wears thin after a while. I even started to decline going to certain get togethers and attending baby birthdays were just painful. I became quite bitter, desperate and depressed.
But one year later, I got up for work and did a quick test, expecting the usual mind-numbing result. I crawled back into bed with my husband. He rolled over and said ‘you’re pregnant, aren’t you’!? I was. I didn’t have to say a thing. My face said it all. We were one of the lucky ones.
But many couples will be trying for years. And some may never succeed and my heart goes out to them. And what about the couple that doesn’t want kids? Or the couple that had a child but can’t afford to have another? Or those that have lost little ones? Even though we went through IVF and had such a struggle to have our Harvey, soon after we were asked… ‘so when are you having number two’? And now that I have two wonderful children and I feel our family is pretty complete, the question still comes….
So, next time you go to say that ‘throw away’ comment to the newly weds or the couple that have been together for ten years, be sensitive. Don’t ask them when they are having kids. You never know what’s going on.’
