Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disease affecting the part of the nervous system that controls voluntary muscle movement. Most of the nerve cells that control muscles are located in the spinal cord, which accounts for the word spinal in the name of the disease.

    Symptoms of SMA may include:

    • muscle weakness and decreased muscle tone.
    • limited mobility.
    • breathing problems.
    • problems eating and swallowing.
    • delayed gross motor skills.
    • spontaneous tongue movements.
    • scoliosis (curvature of the spine)

Can you help Nicole Williams to find this lovely kind hearted girl? Please share

  • Amazing and Funny Poem For Middle Aged Woman

A poem written for us woman who are aging with style

    Sweaty Boobs, back fat

Melting flaps and all of that

    Leaky ladies, a bristly chin

We middle age girls cannot win

    Drying up, inside and out

    Hairy toes and hairy snout

Knickers pulled up nice and high

    Boobs somewhere around your thigh

Can’t even sneeze without a piddle

Nice roll of fat around the middle

But we are made of stronger stuff

Though we may have a saggy muff

We will age with charm and grace

and hair removal on our face

We will laugh instead of cry

As the years go flying by

We are kind and strong and proud

And, after a few gins, very loud

Anti wrinkle cream will do its best

But vodka and laughter can do the rest

So age, my friends, with a smile on your face

And a tenna lady firmly in place.

  • Mums Punishment Causes Heated Debates

Cierra Brittany Forney’s post has caused heated debates on social media after she shared how she punished her son.

Forney said “So lately, my 13-year-old son had been acting a little… entitled. Acting like he’s too good to shop at Wal-Mart or making snarky comments about kids at school who shop at the goodwill and quite a few other things. I don’t tolerate that.

Today, he took his own 20.00 to the goodwill to buy clothes to wear the entire week to school. Whatever he found is what he would have to wear. He isn’t happy and shed a few tears but I firmly believe in 15 years he will look back and laugh at the day his Mom made him shop at goodwill. I want to teach my kids that money isn’t everything and if you have to degrade other people because of where they shop, then you too will shop there. Side note, I love the goodwill!!”.

Some people thought the punishment was perfect and that it will teach him kindness and compassion and a great life lesson, whilst many others thought it wrong to share the photo to social media, classing it as a kind of bullying and a permanent reminder that may haunt this boy for years to come.

What are your thoughts on this form of punishment, great parenting? Too harsh? Let us know in the comments section

  • You Made Your Own Worst Critics And They Call You Mum

I don’t remember my “what to expect when expecting book” mentioning that when you become a parent your every move is judged by your worst critics, and you made them!!!

I always thought I was a pretty, cool and a fit mum, ok yes I admit it I have a bit of flab but haven’t we all, as my children have got older I seem to be wearing less make up, and my clothes are no longer the latest fashion, but I am by no means an old bag lady.

Three year old son “mummy your tummy is like jelly haha” okay I take that on the chin, thanks for that son, awesome confidence boost Not.

But nothing can compare to my 11-year-old fashion diva…

    “Don’t walk like that mum”

    “You can’t wear that”

“You are too old for that”

and the best one is “that is so 2017 no one uses that word/dance/dab anymore”, I had only just got up to date with all the lingo and cool moves and now they are out dated arghh.

Then there are the groans, the funny little noises to show their disapproval. I daren’t even tell them I am really trying my best to be my most ‘normal’ self, there is SO much craziness I am hiding, so many fashion disasters that I can’t bring myself to throw away.

But hey kiddos wait til you have your own children, you will have your own mini critics, and you will miss everything I used to do for you, so throw your insults at me, I know I’m hip, I know one day you will be a “jelly belly” a fashion disaster and a piggy porkie, sausage hawker!!! Good luck kiddo!

  • Last Night I Tried To Kill Myself- I’m Glad I Failed

Last night I tried to kill myself, last night I was alone and broken.

You see I suffer from depression and have done for such a long time.

My Facebook posts are often depressing, dark or sad, I am not crying out for attention it just really helps to post a meme, article or video which states how I feel, it’s kind of like off loading some of my emotions.

Last night I was feeling low and scrolling through my Facebook news feed, I saw so many happy photos of people on holiday, days out or meals with the family, I felt even more down, why could I not have that?  I posted a meme about depressing, my own mother commented “oh Emma are you ever bloody happy, stop attention seeking”.

In that moment I felt more worthless, more fragile and more alone than ever.

A handful of pills I swallowed a glass of water in hand a moment of despair in my mind.

An awakening thought, these people who seem so happy, whose lives appear so perfect ARENT!!! It’s posed, it’s for Facebook, no one has a perfect life NO ONE.

Everyone has their dark moments others like me just have them more often.

Fingers down my throats and a call to a friend who has never given up on me no matter how depressing I am to be around.

Please don’t let me dampen your joy, don’t stop spreading the happy, I won’t stop posting my feelings.

You are not perfect and neither I am, if my posts are too depressing remove me, don’t comment telling me to “cheer up”, or oh “are you ever happy”, trust me I get a lot of comments like this and it does not help.

Not everyone deals with things the same way, some times the person who seems the most perfect, the happiest is the one who is breaking inside, be kind with your words, think before you comment, you never know what that person is going through, Emma H

  • A Poignant Reminder Of How Callous And Vain We Have Become

So true – A poignant reminder of how callous and vain we have become.

She asked him, ‘How much are you selling the eggs for?’

The old seller replied, ’10p an egg, Madam.’

She said to him, ‘I will take 6 eggs for 40p or I will leave.’

The old seller replied, ‘Come take them at the price you want. Maybe, this is a good beginning because I have not been able to sell even a single egg today.’

She took the eggs and walked away feeling she has won. She got into her fancy car and went to a posh restaurant with her friend. There, she and her friend, ordered whatever they liked. They ate a little and left a lot of what they ordered. Then she went to pay the bill. The bill cost her £81, She gave £100 and asked the owner of the restaurant to keep the change.

This incident might have seemed quite normal to the owner but, very painful to the poor egg seller.

The point is, Why do we always show we have the power when we buy from the needy ones? And why do we get generous to those who do not even need our generosity?

    I once read somewhere:

‘My father used to buy simple goods from poor people at high prices, even though he did not need them. Sometimes he even used to pay extra for them. I got concerned by this act and asked him why does he do so? Then my father replied,

“It is a charity wrapped with dignity, my child”

  • A Sculpture To Capture The Trauma Of A Still Born Or Baby Loss

A sculpture made to capture the emotional trauma of a still born or a pregnancy that never made it full term.

This sculpture will probably hit the hearts of women who see this and this isn’t to cause upset, I felt if anything, it enables people to realise that no matter what stage a foetus is developed and what stage your loss occurs, your loss is always a profound heart breaking loss that the mother endures.

People say “she wasn’t even that far gone” to attempt to ease a mother’s pain but those ignorant comments can not help fill the void of her loss.

1 in 4 pregnancies are lost before birth so this post goes out to all the angel babies who never made it and all the heroic mothers that have endured and grieved their loss ❤️

Above content credit goes to Sammie Steers

Take a look at more of the sculptures amazing work at http://facebook.com/maddilynnmemory

For parents who are expecting a new life but find themselves facing death, and when a mother has physically given birth to a baby, accepting the reality of that emotionally is immensely difficult. Mothers will still experience all the normal post-natal reactions, which may be especially distressing because their baby has died.

When a baby dies, fathers often have a great deal to manage. Not only are they grieving for their baby, but their concern for their partner makes this a very difficult time. Often they may be asked how the baby’s mother is rather than how they, as fathers, are feeling themselves.

Society is likely to dictate that men should be strong, always ready and able to do the supporting – but fathers too have lost their baby and will need to find ways to express their grief. They too need support and care. For help and support please see https://childbereavementuk.org

  • People Need To Be Aware Of What A Rip Current Looks Like

As a former surf lifesaver I constantly find myself when I’m at a beach automatically in patrol mode, and I’m always troubled seeing the amount of swimmers that enter the surf straight into a rip zone. This includes, and most worrying of all children. I know a lot of people are kind of aware of what to do if caught in a rip, but it has been brought to my attention recently that a lot of people aren’t aware of what a rip actually looks like or where the safest place to swim at the beach is if there is no flagged area.

One person will drown every two to three days this summer… 90% of those fatalities will be rip-related. Here are a few things that will help you and your kids stay safe this summer. I have also put together a few images that show what to look for.

People Need To Aware Of What A Rip Looks Like
People Need To Aware Of What A Rip Looks Like

    1. The easiest thing to remember is that often the safest/calmest most enticing looking area along a beach is usually a rip. A rip is usually the area void of wave activity and appears darker and deceptively calmer. It can sometimes appear milky or turbulent, but it is always pretty much void of wave activity. All that water coming in via waves has to go back out somehow, this is what a rip is. (see pics).

    2. Always take 5-10 mins when you get to the beach to observe surf conditions and identify where these areas are.

    3. If you are caught in a rip, DO NOT PANIC. Go into floating mode and raise one arm as a distress signal when possible. See which direction the rip is taking you, is it straight out or at an angle? once you have determined this, and if you have the energy, swim to the right or left of the direction of flow, never against. Some rips can move at 3 times the speed of an olympic swimmer, you won’t win! If you cannot swim out to either side of the rip, just go with it. Most rips won’t take you out very far, and will usually spit you out not long after they take you, so keep calm and save your energy for the swim back to shore.

    4. If you have kids, show them these pictures, educate them and make them aware. You can’t always be watching them, and it is only a matter of a few metres each way of the point of entry to the water that could mean them being safe, or instantly caught in a rip.

Obviously the safest place to swim is always between the flags on a patrolled beach, but this isn’t always practical given the immensity of our coast line and number of beautiful beaches. Of course there are many other factors that can come into play when it comes to beach safety, but rips are the No.1 killer. They are not hard to identify, and 10 mins observation before entering the surf is much easier than body retrieval.

*The darker/calmer areas in the pics are rips. The one with purple dye shows rip movement.

  • Why I Will Not Judge Your Parenting

WHY I WILL NOT JUDGE YOUR PARENTING ❤️

    I’m too damn busy.

I’m too busy making mistakes and praying my kids turn out alright anyway.

I’m too busy looking at my musty smelling laundry pile and wondering if I should fold it or light it all on fire.

I’m too busy teaching my kids good work ethics which means saying “stop playing and keep cleaning” over and over until everyone is crying.

I’m too busy yelling that everyone needs to STOP YELLING and then wondering if I will ever be able to stop yelling. It’s not really looking good for any of us.

I’m too busy letting my three-year-old use a pacifier and my six-year-old wear Cinderella underwear as a bathing suit.

I’m too busy trying not to fight with my husband in front of the kids even though sometimes we make each other crazy (ESPECIALLY IN THE CAR). I say trying, because last week my three-year-old asked me why daddy and I sometimes argue like little kids.

I’m too busy wondering if that wet spot is from water, juice, or urine.

I’m too busy trying to assess if that Pterodactyl scream was a “we’re having fun” scream or a “blood has been shed” scream.

I’m too busy making risky calls like should I let my son wear that shirt with spaghetti sauce on it to church, and do I tell my girls that it’s actually a “vagina” not a “bagina”, even though bagina is way more awesome?

I’m too damn busy apologizing to my kids. I’m apologizing for misunderstanding them, for getting grumpy, for bumping their head on a doorway, for not believing them that their tummy hurt until they projectile vomited, and for throwing away that ginormous popsicle stick art project they brought home from school.

I’m too busy apologizing FOR my kids, like, “sorry they ate all your snacks and asked you if there’s a baby in your belly”.

I’m too busy being overwhelmed by the fact that it’s already dinner time AGAIN and the food is still at the grocery store.

I’m too busy because this parenting gig is flying by at lightning speed and I’m hanging on for dear life, hoping that when it’s over they will look back and say “we were loved”.

I’m not going to judge your parenting because IT’S HARD and YOU are the qualified one.

I’m not qualified because I don’t worry about your kids like you do. I don’t lie awake at night wrestling with decisions about schools, and friends, and behaviors, and obstacles in their precious lives. I don’t love them, ache for them, feed them, or say sorry to them like you do. I don’t know them. I don’t know their dreams or what makes them tick.

I’m eleven years in and I am now more certain than ever that there isn’t “one way” to do this well. I’m just trying to figure out how to parent my own kids and how many margaritas I can have without getting a hangover. Life is complicated.

If we can’t be real and share the struggle, then it just doesn’t work for me.

I’m a fan of all MOMS.

I’m too damn busy for anything else.
