  • How to Find Out Your Baby’s Gender – The Nub Theory Explained

For as long as people have been having babies parents has been very eager to find out the gender of their baby as soon as possible!

More often than not you’d have to wait for your 20 week scan to find out this information, if your sonographer is lucky enough to be able to find out for you!

Perhaps you’ve turned to some old wives tales to try to find out, the old ring over your belly trick or peeing into a cup of bleach! (We really wouldn’t suggest that last one for anyone to try!)

We’re going to tell you a different way which might be able to tell you the gender of your baby as early as 11 weeks into your pregnancy!

The Nub Theory has been around for quite a long time now although there is still quite a lot of confusion as to understanding how it actually works.

The way the Nub Theory works is basically ‘the angle of the dangle’. Between 11 and 14 weeks’ into your pregnancy both baby girls and baby boys have a penis-like protuberance between the legs. While they do seem extremely similar at this point the difference is how you can tell the baby’s gender! It’s all about angle at which they are pointing! The theory goes that boy’s ‘dangle’ will be 30 degrees up relative to the backbone and a girl’s is below 30 degrees.

Not everyone will be able to use the Nub Theory, it’s all to do with how much your baby wants to co-operate on the day of the scan unfortunately, the foetus must not be curled up, they need to be lying very flat. Also, it must be side on and apparently, it is better if the foetus is right side up.

Obviously sometimes the babies will fall into a bit of a ‘grey area’ and you’ll be unable to get a definitive answer.

The further into your pregnancy the more likely you are to be able to use the Nub Theory, if you are scanned at 11 weeks, it can be difficult to tell the difference between the genders. A scan at 12 weeks is around 75% accurate and at 13 weeks it’s closer to 95% accurate.

What do you think of the Nub Theory?
Has it worked for you or a someone you know?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments and share this article to anyone that might be curious to find out the gender of the baby-to-be!

  • Time Is Running Out To Get Rid Of Your Old Pound Coins

THE new 12-sided £1 coin was introduced on March 28 this year and you now only have until midnight on October 15 to either spend, bank or donate your old coins.

Philippa McKeown Brown, head of consumer empowerment and protection at the Consumer Council, said: “It’s time to check the piggy-banks and money jars for £1 coins and to either spend them at the shops or exchange them at the bank or Post Office, because as of October 15, the current round £1 coins will cease to be legal tender and will no longer be accepted.”

After October 15 you will still be able to put the coins into your bank, however businesses will be under no obligation to accept them, and most coin machines will only be accepting the new coin.

The new pound coin has stumped the counterfeiters, with no evidence the 12-sided design can be faked, a Government minister has said.

Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, Andrew Jones, hailed the latest quid as the most secure form of currency in the world as he marked a significant milestone in the coin’s introduction.

There are now more new pound coins in circulation than their round predecessor – a coin that had become an easy target for counterfeiters.

  • Shocking And Sad Reason Bride Doesn’t Show Up For Her Own Wedding

When Terry Apudo didn’t show up to church for her own wedding, her family and friends immediately knew something was very wrong.

But the real reason for Terry’s absence on such a special day was more terrible than the guests could have ever imagined.

Terry Apudo, was a young female pastor, working in a small church in Nairobi, Kenya.

Her wedding with fiancé Harry Olwande, had been in the works for a long time and the couple were in the middle of preparations for the big day.

As tradition goes, the bride and groom spent the night before the wedding apart.

The next morning, as Terry left her house and walked down the road, she noticed a man sitting on the hood of his car.

She walked past him, but minutes later, the man rushed to her and jumped her from behind.

The man violently grabbed Terry and threw her into the backseat of his car, where two other male accomplices were sitting and waiting for her.

The young pastor was kidnapped on what was to be her wedding day.

“A piece of cloth was stuffed in my mouth. I was kicking and hitting out and trying to scream,” Terry said “When I managed to push the gag out, I screamed, ‘It’s my wedding day!’ That was when I got the first blow. One of the men told me to ‘co-operate or you will die.’”

The nightmare didn’t end there — the horror continued inside the car. Terry continued to tell her story:

“The men took turns to rape me. I felt sure I was going to die, but I was still fighting for my life, so when one of the men took the gag out of my mouth I bit his manhood. He screamed in pain and one of them stabbed me in the stomach. Then they opened the door and threw me out of the moving car.

I was miles from home, outside Nairobi. More than six hours had passed since I had been abducted.

A child saw me being thrown out and called her grandmother. People came running. When the police came they tried to get a pulse, but no one could. Thinking I was dead, they wrapped me in a blanket and started to take me to the mortuary. But on the way there, I choked on the blanket and coughed. The policeman said, ‘She’s alive?’ And he turned the car around and drove me to the biggest government hospital in Kenya.

I arrived in great shock, murmuring incoherently. I was half-naked and covered in blood, and my face was swollen from being punched. But something must have alerted the matron, because she guessed I was a bride. ‘Let’s go around the churches to see if they’re missing a bride,’ she told the nurses.”

“By coincidence, the first church they called at was All Saints Cathedral,” Terry went on to say. “‘Are you missing a bride?” the nurse asked. The minister said, ‘Yes, there was a wedding at 10 o’clock and she didn’t come.’”

When the wedding guests found out the real reason for Terry’s disappearance, people started screaming and crying inside the church.

Terry’s family and her fiancé, Harry, rushed to the hospital immediately. Eventually, Terry was moved to another hospital, where the full degree of her physical injuries had become painfully apparent.

“That was where the doctors stitched me up and gave me some devastating news,” Terry says.

The doctors told Terry that the stab wounds were so deep that she wouldn’t be able to have children.

“I was given the morning-after pill, as well as antiretroviral drugs to protect me from HIV and AIDs. My mind shut down. It refused to accept what had happened.

A few days later, when I was less sedated, I was able to look him [Harry] in the eye. I kept saying sorry. I felt like I had let him down. Some people said it was my own fault for leaving the house in the morning. It was really hurtful, but my family and Harry supported me.”

Despite everything, Harry still wanted to marry Terry — the love of his life.

The ceremony took place in July 2005, seven months after their first planned wedding.

At last they stood at the altar together and were able to celebrate and display their love for one another.

Everything seemed to be taking a turn for the better, but destiny sometimes works in mysterious ways.

Only 29 days after they finally got married, another catastrophe occurred.

During a very cold night, Harry decided to warm the house with the couple’s little charcoal stove, which was usually used outdoors for cooking.

Unfortunately, the couple fell asleep when the heat started spreading in the room. When Terry woke up a short while later, she realized something was not right.

She was dizzy and couldn’t get out of bed. With the little strength she had left, she managed to reach the phone next to her bed to call the neighbors for help.

Right after that phone call — she lost consciousness.

Terry was able to be rescued in the very last moment, but sadly, it was too late for Harry. He died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Terry went into a state of depression so bad that she shut herself off from the outside world.

The only visitor she would receive was a pastor named Tonny Gobanga. He regularly visited Terry at her home, so she could talk to him about the pain that had gotten stuck deep in her soul.

Tonny’s warmth and compassion gave Terry new life and helped to slowly mend her broken heart.

Eventually, with time, the two fell in love.

“Tonny proposed marriage but I told him to buy a magazine, read my story and tell me if he still loved me. He came back and said he still wanted to marry me.

But I said, ‘Listen, there’s another thing — I can’t have children, so I cannot get married to you.’

‘Children are a gift from God,’ he said. ‘If we get them, Amen. If not, I will have more time to love you.’”

Three years after her marriage with Harry, Terry once again walked down the aisle, this time with Tonny, who had given her the will to live again.

Sadly, her life looked like it was taking another dark turn — one year after her second wedding, Terry felt very sick.

“I felt unwell and went to the doctor,” she says. “And to my great surprise, he told me that I was pregnant.”

Terry’s pregnancy went smoothly. Contrary to the doctors’ words, Terry seemed to be completely capable of giving birth without any complications.

The joy that Terry and Tonny felt holding their newborn daughter Tehille in their arm was indescribable.

Four years later, the pair welcomed their second miracle — their other daughter Towdah.

The men who tortured and raped Terry were never arrested and brought to justice.

Terry’s full story is documented in her autobiography “Crawling Out of Darkness.”

Today Terry travels with her husband Tonny and gives talks. She speaks about the horrific things she has been through and how she got the strength to pull herself out of the darkness and look at the positive things in life.

She also helps other rape victims and hopes her experiences can inspire them to know that they are not alone.

  • Mum’s Fiancé Asks Her To Give Up The One Thing She Loves Once They Get Married. The Most Shocking Part? She Is Already Considering It

A mum is being slammed by parents around the world after she confessed that she fully plans on giving up her son once she gets married.

As The Sun reports, the mother, who goes by “Feeling Stuck,” wrote into the Dear Wendy column to ask for some advice regarding her predicament.

“I’m a 30-year-old divorcee with a son. I have joint custody with my ex-husband. My boyfriend, who is also divorced, has a daughter who is under the sole custody of his ex-wife. I only get to spend time with my son on alternate weekends and my boyfriend doesn’t see his daughter at all,” the woman begins.

The woman has reportedly been waiting for her boyfriend to propose for quite some time, so when he finally did, she was over the moon.

There’s just one catch: She must give up her son.

“My boyfriend already proposed to me, but, one month after proposing, he wants me to give up seeing my son,” the mum revealed.

As it turns out, Feeling Stuck’s greatest concern in giving up her only child involves her ailing parents, who absolutely adore their grandson.

“I did tell him that my parents want to spend time with my son too and they can only do that on the alternate weekends I see him. He told me that he wants to go overseas to work and meanwhile I can use this period to think about whether I want to give up my son for him,” she writes.

Shockingly enough, the mum is considering her fiancé’s offer and is even thinking about going through with a trial run.

“I have thought of giving up my son after we married, but how am I supposed to answer to my parents? My mother has depression and my father has cancer. I don’t want them to be sad knowing that they will lose a grandson,” the woman continues.

According to the mum, it has been apparent from the beginning that she would one day have to choose between her son and her boyfriend.

“My boyfriend told me when we started dating that he could not accept my son, and I know not all men can. I’m actually prepared to give up my son after marriage, but my boyfriend wants me to do it right now. I want to be with my boyfriend and yet I can’t bear to let my parents feel sad because of their illnesses. I also have a mother’s guilt in me because my son loves me so much. What should I do?” she concluded.

Unsurprisingly, Dear Wendy, as well as hundreds of other commenters on social media, were horrified that a mother would consider going through with such a horrifying plan.

“Shame on you. Are you so lonely and so desperate for a husband that you would cast away your own child? Apparently so. Please, please get yourself to therapy and figure out what the fuck is wrong with you that you would behave in such an appalling, disgraceful way. I’m not even touching on your parents. That you would use them and their illnesses as the main reason to maybe keep seeing your son occasionally speaks volumes. Get help,” Dear Wendy responded, in part.

  • These Aren’t Ok For School?

One mum shared her upset over a teachers comments regarding her son’s school shoes

Literally livid right now!!!! These are the only shoe my liam can wear due to his asd and sensory issues, anything else and he takes them off part way through the day more than once. His teacher said they arent shoes yet they were sold in the shoe section at clarkes… and cost me £40 and with 2 other children and not just shoes but p.e trainers it cost me a small fortune! The teacher said go out and buy a new pair!!!! Really cant believe how ignorant some people can be 🙁

Several parents commented that they had similar issues as schools don’t want children wearing shoes with Velcro, and demanding children wear lace up or smart slip on shoes.

I have a child with autism and Dyspraxia he can barely dress himself let alone do shoe laces.

What’s your thoughts? Should schools be so fussy on children attire?

  • Top Tips To Keep Spiders Away

House spiders are invading homes across the uk as mating season begins.
An influx of giant house spiders have already crawled into the homes of unsuspecting householders and we’ll be seeing a lot more of them in the weeks to come.
September will see a large quantity of males leaving their hiding places to seek a mate. Their bite can penetrate human skin but its stinging venom is harmless to humans.
And with bodies that can measure up to three inches long, there’s every chance you will see it first.

However, it only gets worse for arachnophobes, as these speedy creatures scurry at 1.18mph and once held the Guinness Book of Records top spider speed.
So good luck to budding exterminators, you are about to make some new friends this autumn, but here are some tips for keeping spiders away from the house.
Limit spider food – Clear away any dead flies, or other small crawling insects.

Vacuum regularly – Always vacuum high and low, and make sure you target sheltered spots beneath worktops and behind cupboards and sofas.
Remove webs – Do this regularly, and remember to check the corners of the ceiling and in corners of picture frames and mirrors.

Fill gaps – Make sure you fill the gaps between walls, pipework and under doors where possible.
Reposition sheltering sites – Spiders will look to tuck themselves away in firewood piles, garden bags and compost heaps, so put them at the bottom of the garden.

Limit lighting – Insects are drawn to light, and flies and moths are ideal spider prey, so turn any outside lights off if you can.

Put them off the scent – Spiders don’t like the smell of citrus fruits like lemon, plus eucalyptus, tea-tree and peppermint oils. Try rubbing lemon peel around windows and doors, or spray the other scents around them.

Feline foe – A cat will try to catch a spider if it sees it – although owning a moggy won’t stop spiders coming indoors in the first place.
Coconut oil – mix some with water and spritz it around. Not only will the house smell nice but spiders don’t like it.

Conkers? – An old wives tale says spiders don’t like conkers and placing them around the house will keep spiders at bay. While there’s no real evidence to back this up, it won’t hurt to try.
If all else fails move, burn the house down or train your children to remove them for you.

  • Why Didn’t I Feel Love? Postnatal Depression

When I was 18 I found out I was pregnant with my first child.

My partner and I (7 years my elder) where over the moon we were so excited! At the 20 week scan we found out we was having a boy 😍 my partners face dropped (he wanted a girl) but then it hit him a son! his son!

So we went out and brought paint and decorated the nursery. I would spend hours sat in there excited and washing all his clothes and sorting his stuff out. Then at 34 weeks I found out I had polyhydramnios (excess water) and baby was already 8lb 10!

Panic set in I was told it was most likely a blockage in the baby and his first feed would be through a nasel tube! We was shocked ! I was induced at 38 weeks and 3 days later my son was born he was perfectly fine… I wasn’t …. Where was this rush of love I’m supposed to feel … I was numb both physically and mentally I was kept in over night I told the hospital I want my partner to stay and reluctantly they agreed and everything was fine.

Home time came around it was horrible I felt like a failure because I thought I didn’t love my own child I would look down at this pure innocent baby and not feel anything.

Week later the numb feeling turned to anger and resentment against both my baby and my partner. I couldn’t cope, I couldn’t do night feeds , I would put the crying baby down and walk out crying! I had no family as they lived over 300 miles away and no friends no one.

I would stand in the kitchen over the sink washing bottles crying.( I couldn’t breastfeed either) My partner came home from work and found me in tears because I couldn’t find the remote for the telly and I had a break down, he told me I needed to go to the Doctors, so I did because I knew this wasn’t me.

I went from laid back to angry and withdrawn. I also had thoughts that I would be better off dead although I never told anyone apart from my doctor. I got help. I meet regularly with my GP and am on antidepressants.

My baby is now a year old and I love him I have always loved him! Always will! Post natal depression is not anything to be ashamed of and is a serious issue that affects all kinds of people (including Dad’s ) and in different ways but you are not alone and there are all kinds of options other than antidepressants too!

Although I still have no friends and I am miles away from family I have my little family and it’s perfect! To those who are reading and thinking that’s me please don’t suffer in silence it’s nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about! It gets better I promise ❤
