  • Shocking Children’s Book Explains Where Babies Come From!

When Katherine Pick started reading a book with her 8 year old daughter in the doctor’s surgery she did not expect it open such a large can of worms!

Katherine shared her experience on Facebook check out her post below.

“Well!!! That doctor’s surgery visit took a surprising twist!….

Adem picked up this innocent enough looking book “Mummy Laid an Egg!”. (Haha, aren’t us mummies clever!!)

All began routinely enough, with ‘sugar and spice and all things nice’ and such, but I was ill prepared for the most sudden U-Turn on Page 6, where we’re introduced to Daddy’s friendly looking ‘seed pods’!

No holds barred on Pages 8 and 9 either, where apparently ‘this fits in here…’ (sounds easy enough) and then what can only be described as a child-friendly Kama Sutra guide ensues on Page 10! Aerial acrobatics, fetish clown outfits and space hoppers (fun times!)

To say Ayla (8) showed a sudden interest in the ‘silly baby book’, is an understatement! 😆 Cue the 4 billion questions I hadn’t planned answering today.”

What do you think of this children’s book?

Would you be happy for your children to read it?

  • You Should NEVER Say This to a Pregnant Woman!

Pregnancy is a magical experience, bringing new life into the world is truly a gift.

However, pregnant women are generally an emotional bag of crazy and should not be messed with!

These are 10 things you should NEVER say to pregnant women unless you are prepared for a tongue lashing!

    1. Are you sure you’re not having twins?

Seriously! We know we look enormous and this is in no way a subtle reminder!

    2. You look like you’re really done.

Why not say what you really mean… “You look like shit!” Thanks mate, already know and frankly don’t need to be told!

    3. You are HUGE!

See point number 1! It is NEVER ok to call a women fat and let’s face it that’s what it feels like we are being called!

    4. You look farther along than five/six/seven/eight months. I’m sure you’ll go early.

What do you expect from this? “Oh no really? I guess the doctors and midwives got it wrong. Thank goodness you’ve helped so much!” No. Don’t say it.

    5. You’re carrying really low/high/wide etc…

You wouldn’t comment on how a non pregnant persons weight is being carried so don’t comment on ours and expect a pleasant response!

    6. I’m sure it’s a boy/girl.

Just don’t. Really don’t. If we wanted to know the gender we’d find out at a scan. If we didn’t we wouldn’t. We don’t need every nosey Nelly telling us what they think when, let’s face it, everyone has 50% chance of being right!

    7. You look like you’re ready to pop!

And we feel it too. But babies come when they are ready, so no need to remind me mine isn’t yet!

    8. I hope you can get your figure back.

    *deep inhale*

    9. I had the worst labour ever. Never want to do what again.

Thanks for the support! Just what we needed, a helpful reminder of the hellish pain we’ll soon be going through.

    10. Better sleep now while you can!

Are you for real? You think sleeping while pregnant is easy or fun? We need to pee every 20 minutes, the baby seems to be having a kickboxing lesson and the heartburn wants to drown us as soon as we lay down. So yeah we’ll sleep when we can. Thanks for the tip!

  • Teen mum accused of faking her pregnancy hits back!

    All women are different.
It’s not a hard concept, however some people do, unfortunately, seem to struggle with it.

We are all so very different in many ways, this includes of course how our bodies react and change during pregnancy.

This mum-to-be is finding out the hard way how hurtful and disrespectful other people can be because of this.

Reanna Stephens is 18-years-old and from South Carolina, USA.  Although you may not guess it to look at her but Reanna is 6 months pregnant!

Unlike some other women Reanna has almost no visible baby bump.
Reanna puts this down to her vegan diet as well staying active and healthy during her pregnancy.

Unfortunately because of Reannas seemingly flat tummy she has been shamed by strangers in the street asking her if she’s faking her pregnancy, if her baby is healthy and whether she is anorexic.

Now Reanna has shared her story to show that expectant mothers can have naturally smaller bumps and remain healthy.

    Reanna had this to say:
“People really affect me with their comments, I try to stay calm as I know both me and my baby are healthy.

“My baby is growing the perfect amount every month as it’s measured, just like everyone else’s, so it’s absolutely nothing to do with mine or the baby’s health.

“I have compared my bump over my pregnancy to people on different parent pages on Facebook, and it’s not as big as other people’s.

“But I love my small bump, it’s not big, but I think it’s perfect in its own way and it’s my body and my bump – no one else’s.

“I have had people stopping me in the street and giving me nasty looks.

“It’s heartbreaking that instead of getting, ‘Aw, look at your bump!’ I get people being rude to me as soon as they realise how far gone I am.

“People have asked me, ‘You’re not faking your pregnancy are you?’, and ‘Are you sure your baby is healthy?’ as well as people telling me I need to eat more and see a doctor in case I starve my child.

“I have also been told that I shouldn’t be having a baby if I can’t feed myself, but people know nothing about my diet or lifestyle.

“Luckily I have the support of my family, because my mother was in a similar situation when she was pregnant.

“She was an athlete and she didn’t show until she was seven-months pregnant.

“Although I’m much smaller than her, I believe being active has a part to play in the size of your bump.”

Reanna is due to give birth to a baby boy in April.  We wish her the best of luck!

  • Pregnant Women Taking Drugs on the Rise!

Everyone knows there are certain things you’re not supposed to do during pregnancy; eat raw shellfish, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol or take drugs just to name a few.

However the amount of women who are smoking marijuana during pregnancy is alarmingly on the rise.

Reachers have found that from 2009 to 2016, marijuana use rose from 4.2% to 7.1% for all pregnant women. The jump was significantly greater for those under 25 years old with the numbers going from 12.5% to 21.8% among those under age 18 and 9.8% to 19.0% among those 18 to 24 years old.

While some believe that smoking marijuana during pregnancy can help deal with symptoms such as aches, pains and morning sickness there is no medical research to back this up.

What are your views on this?

Yesterday at around 1pm Susan began experience abdomen cramps and was in a lot of pain,Susan tried taking pain killers and laying down but nothing helped and at 2pm Susan couldn’t take it anymore and asked Paul to take her to her local hospital.

Susan explained her pains to the doctor and she was placed onto a monitor and was told the shocking news that she was in labour.

Susan told us that for the past 8 months she has gained a small amount of weight but put that down to going on to the contraception pill, she has had no heartburn or cravings, continued to have a period every month which was slightly lighter than normal but again put this down to the pill.

Susan also shared another shocking revelation her and partner Paul last had sex in April.

Susans eldest daughter Lucy Ann has been to the hospital to visit her new baby sister,  she is very proud of her mum and amazed  to have a new baby sister, Liam has yet to meet Taylor Rose but has kissed a photo of the new addition.

Susan and Taylor Rose currently remain in the hospital under observation but they are hoping to be allowed home tomorrow, Susan has been visited by the mental health team to check she is okay and happy to have a new child, although Susan feels it’s all unreal she is absolutely over the moon to have a wonderful newborn.

Susan said she has been blown over  with the wonderful offers of support from family, friends and strangers rallying around and buying all the essentials for the new arrival, Mums advice admin had a whip round and also sent some money to help towards getting Taylor Rose some little bits.

Susan has experienced some negativity though with people stating that she must have known or she deliberately kept it a secret, or the best one yet that as she is admin of a mum group surely she would have known.

As Susan says had she known she would have had more time to prepare for the baby and also Liam her very young son would be more aware of what was happening.

Susan and Paul luckily are very happy to have a new baby and Susan says she has no regrets as she doesn’t smoke or drink but wishes she had a bit more notice.

We all wish the family a very merry Christmas its one to remember and I’m sure will be brought up every Christmas for the rest of Taylor Rose’s life.

  • Advice To Men About Their Pregnant Wife

ADVICE TO MEN ABOUT THEIR PREGNANT WIFE…
Men, today I want us to talk about PREGNANCY.

Do you know that certain things you do when your wife is pregnant actually contributes to the state of health of the mother and unborn child?
Listen, it bothers me a lot when I see men showing no concern to their pregnant wife or fail to adjust to some temporary changes.

It’s just 9 months, not like its forever.

Pregnancy is not bought in the market, neither is it a software downloaded from the internet. It’s a seed planted by you. There has to be a carrier of that seed while it grows, and women have been given the responsibility to carry it.
Pregnancy is preparation to welcome a new member into the family. Pregnancy is a journey fun-filled, amazing etc.

Women differ in body changes. Although Pregnancy makes women do certain things in common.

■Once in a while she would nag and moan

■Once in a while she would request for things unimaginable e.g she wants to eat a sponge with marmite.

■Once in a while she will be to tired to make you your meals

■Once in a while she would want to stretch her legs on your laps. Please pardon her… carrying the baby ain’t easy.

Her needs may be unsatisfiable at times.
The first Trimester of the journey can be so annoying. Like I say women differ from each other during pregnancy.

●While most women are busy vomiting.

●Most of them sleep like a log, they nod off anywhere with the slightest chance even in the kitchen.

●While most women feel terribly hot.

●While most women put on weight, some will have swollen ankles as well.

●She will hate you and love you and cry over anything

Please tolerate this, it’s beautiful afterwards.

Her attitude becomes annoying, most times you can’t stand her. But I get annoyed when I see men neglect their pregnant wife. She’s not an abomination, neither is she a curse. I must say, it’s not an easy journey for all.

The last Trimester is when you need to be extra patient, loving, enduring and understanding.
    NOTE…

    1) Always observe your wife’s feet while pregnant, it swells often. Please give her a basin of water to soak her feet once in a while, it’s one of the best treats women enjoy during pregnancy.
    2) Ask her regularly how she feels and how the baby is. She’s the carrier so she feels him/her move.
    3) Tell her how beautiful she looks during pregnancy e.g ” This pregnancy is making you glow”.

Even if she has grown bigger in size cause of the pregnancy, celebrate her.
    4) Don’t be upset if she ever wakes you up by 2am to help massage her feet. You need to feel a little bit of her discomfort and pain. She shouldn’t carry it alone, it’s your baby you need to carry it together. (I don’t mean physically though).
    5) No rule book stopped sex during pregnancy, in short it’s the best sex…. do it. It’s not like the vagina stopped working during pregnancy. o boy continue the work that brings the pregnancy.
    6) Don’t be ashamed to take her out. Take her out once in a while to those lovie dovie places you used to go together. They love it…
Most times I wonder what crosses the heart of men when they see their pregnant wives. Carrying a child for 9 months isn’t easy.

I urge all men to get closer to their spouses during pregnancy because that’s one of the times she needs you most.

A big shout out to all men who fully stand by their wife during pregnancy. God bless you all.

  • This Amazing Photo Shows What Really Happens When You Give Birth!

This brave mum and body positivity advocates Instagram post about her postpartum body has been going viral and it’s clear to see why.

Let’s talk postpartum bodies! I asked @belleverdiglionephotography to take this photo, just hours after giving birth to Willa, in my rawest and most vulnerable state. I was in pain and I was overcome by a flood of emotions. Elated to have welcomed our beautiful girl and so empowered and proud of what my body and I had just done! It’s a strange feeling to look down and still see a bump, even though you’re holding your baby in your arms, even after doing it three times. It’s not easy to go home with a baby and still have to wear maternity clothes. With my first I was adamant I would just “bounce back”. Everyone would say “you’re young, you’ll loose the baby weight in no time!” But you know what, I didn’t, I never have in fact. With each baby I’ve gained a few more kilos and a few more stretch marks. I used to feel the need to cover up in this newborn stage, I didn’t want to see my body in this state, so why would anyone else? It’s taken me three babies, but I’ve finally realised this postpartum body isn’t something to hide! I am beyond proud for what this body has given and sacralised. I am thankful that my body is able to carry and birth babies naturally. I am NOT ashamed of my (many) new stripes and my postpartum body. And neither should you! Let’s celebrate postpartum bodies, in all their glory. The female body is incredible and I am so proud of what mine has done!

Elise Grossman is an Australian mother of three, and a real advocate of realistic bodies and body positivity.

Grossman shared this photo along with many others in the summer and the response has been amazing with many women also sharing their own postpartum bodies with Elise.

Well done to Elise for sharing these beautiful photos and bringing more positivity into the world.

  • Surprising facts every woman that has been pregnant should know!

Pregnancy; that magical time in your life when everyone says you’re glowing but you just feel like all you do is spend your time in the bathroom, either because you have to pee or you have to vomit!

Take a look and see how many of our surprising pregnancy facts you already knew!

If you are less than 12 weeks pregnant when you go for your first scan you run a very high risk of the scan being internal. While this might sound scary, it’s actually just slightly awkward and uncomfortable, especially if it’s something you’re not expecting.

While we’re on the subject of scans, as much as you want to see your baby bean as often as possible most women only get scanned twice during the entirety of their pregnancies. Once at 12 weeks and again at 20 weeks.

Obviously some instances will result in more scans. For example you may have dating scan if you don’t know how far along your pregnancy is or if your doctor or midwife is concerned the baby isn’t growing as he should be you will most likely received another scan later on in your pregnancy.

Baby brain is a real thing! Nobody puts their keys in the fridge and the milk down the toilet because they want to! But the most likely reason for the dreaded baby brain is simply fatigue. Pregnant women do not get nearly as much sleep as they actually need, so by all means use this as an excuse for an extra nap wherever you can.

While eating for two might seem like a fantastic side effect of pregnancy it’s not actually the case. What you will actually need during pregnancy is just an extra 300 calories. That’s the equivalent of 2 large bananas or three Freddo bars, so choose your calories wisely.

Morning sickness is a very common side effect of pregnancy and unfortunately the name can be quite deceiving. I guess morning, noon and night sickness just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it. But most women that suffer with morning sickness will tell you it can hit you at anytime of day! Be at bedtime, lunchtime or whenever they smell something that turns their stomachs.

Also on the subject of morning sickness you might have been to told that the sickness will go away or subside by the end of the first trimester, unfortunately I’m afraid for some women this is simply not the case and you will still be getting morning sickness all the way up until the day you deliver.

Have a birth plan but be prepared for your baby to have other plans! Being prepared is fantastic, if you know you want to use a birthing pool make sure you write it down and that your midwife is aware, or if you don’t want to use any painkillers, good luck to you, make sure the midwife and your birthing partner know what your plan is. But you also have to remember that you don’t know how your baby will be brought into to the world. With all the best intentions some labours end in an emergency caesarean, it might not be safe to use that birthing pool or it might hurt a lot more than you expect and you’ll be begging for an epidural! So be prepared and have a plan, but be prepared not to follow it to the letter!

A very common misconception is that women that suffer with heartburn will be birthing a hairy baby and will it be nice to know that the horrible heartburn with suffering is because their baby will be born with flowing locks, there is actually a much simpler and less satisfying medical reason. During pregnancy the valve between your stomach and esophagus relaxes, this allows your stomach acid to rise up into your throat and causes that painful burning sensation. This is why you will say so many pregnant women carrying a bottle of Gaviscon in their handbags at all times.

Which other facts about pregnancy surprised you?

  • Morning Sickness – Tips & Tricks!

Pregnancy, it can be one of the most amazing experiences of your life, the feeling of growing your very own tiny human in your belly is wonderful! But not all aspects of pregnancy are particularly enjoyable.

Morning sickness, its let’s be honest, it’s horrific! Some women suffer morning sickness very occasionally, others get it every day for the first three months, and then there are some mothers like myself who suffer morning sickness everyday for the duration of the pregnancy.

Doctors can subscribe tablets which help the sickness, but if you’re like me you’re not overly keen on taking medication whilst pregnant.

So instead here are a few home remedies which might help you get through your morning sickness.

    ☆☆GINGER☆☆
This root is meant to help settle your stomach and some women do swear by it. You can have it in many ways; ginger tea, ginger biscuits or ginger ale/soda.

    ☆☆MINTS☆☆
Much like the ginger mints apparently help to settle the feeling of queasiness so some extra strong mints or a pack of polos could help you get through the morning sickness months.

    ☆☆DRY TOAST☆☆
I know the idea of eating anything while you’re feeling sick can fill you with dread, but dry toast isn’t to help take away that sickly feeling.

    ☆☆FRESH AIR☆☆
If you’re feeling like you’re about to spill your lunch the idea of going anywhere isn’t very nice but some new scenery and some fresh air in your lungs can do wonders.

    ☆☆LITTLE & OFTEN☆☆
Having a big meal is near on impossible when you’re feeling unwell, but an empty stomach isn’t helping either. So why not try eating small meals more often, don’t let your stomach get too empty and don’t fill it up completely either.

    ☆☆MOTION SICKNESS BANDS☆☆
It’s quite common that women that suffer from motion sickness are likely to also get morning sickness, so why not try the bands that go on your wrist to help combat motion sickness to try to help your morning sickness.

If you’ve tried everything you can think of but that morning sickness is still too bad and you can’t get over it don’t be afraid to see your doctor or speak to your midwife. Sometimes no matter what we do we need medical intervention so don’t feel like you have to suffer in silence.

Have you tried any of these remedies?
    Did they work for you?
What tips would you give an expectant mother to help her deal with morning sickness?

  • How to Find Out Your Baby’s Gender – The Nub Theory Explained

For as long as people have been having babies parents has been very eager to find out the gender of their baby as soon as possible!

More often than not you’d have to wait for your 20 week scan to find out this information, if your sonographer is lucky enough to be able to find out for you!

Perhaps you’ve turned to some old wives tales to try to find out, the old ring over your belly trick or peeing into a cup of bleach! (We really wouldn’t suggest that last one for anyone to try!)

We’re going to tell you a different way which might be able to tell you the gender of your baby as early as 11 weeks into your pregnancy!

The Nub Theory has been around for quite a long time now although there is still quite a lot of confusion as to understanding how it actually works.

The way the Nub Theory works is basically ‘the angle of the dangle’. Between 11 and 14 weeks’ into your pregnancy both baby girls and baby boys have a penis-like protuberance between the legs. While they do seem extremely similar at this point the difference is how you can tell the baby’s gender! It’s all about angle at which they are pointing! The theory goes that boy’s ‘dangle’ will be 30 degrees up relative to the backbone and a girl’s is below 30 degrees.

Not everyone will be able to use the Nub Theory, it’s all to do with how much your baby wants to co-operate on the day of the scan unfortunately, the foetus must not be curled up, they need to be lying very flat. Also, it must be side on and apparently, it is better if the foetus is right side up.

Obviously sometimes the babies will fall into a bit of a ‘grey area’ and you’ll be unable to get a definitive answer.

The further into your pregnancy the more likely you are to be able to use the Nub Theory, if you are scanned at 11 weeks, it can be difficult to tell the difference between the genders. A scan at 12 weeks is around 75% accurate and at 13 weeks it’s closer to 95% accurate.

What do you think of the Nub Theory?
Has it worked for you or a someone you know?

Let us know your thoughts in the comments and share this article to anyone that might be curious to find out the gender of the baby-to-be!
