  • Why doesn’t anyone tell pregnant women to masturbate to make labour easier

Why doesn’t anyone tell pregnant women to masturbate to make labour easier

That orgasm is a womb opening device.

Why doesn’t anyone count that childbirth is sexual?

That the same organs are involved, the same hormones.

Just like to make love, intimacy is required.

What’s sweat, groans, panting, eyes on white, hips on the move…

How has birth / sex become so rigid and controlled?

Getting to orgasm requires putting the brain at rest and lowering the body.

    Giving birth the same.

The thing is, many women live pretending orgasms, to fit in the patriarchal model.

The thing is, you can’t fake a labor.

Oxytocin is the main hormone responsible for uterine contractions, and it is very sensitive; it needs tranquility, dim light and confidence.

No matter how close you are to running, if someone breaks into the room without warning, or turns on strong lights or talks about something very technical; it cuts.

They’re all stimulations of neocortex, generating adrenaline, and inhibiting the process.

They call it failure in labor progress.

I don’t think this is a failure, no one fails to give birth.

It’s rather centuries of #sexual repression combined with poor fear-based information that causes all these interventions and unnecessary suffering.
    .
′′ Ultimately, birth is a sexual act that would be performed with the maximum gratification of #pleasure for human creatures, if the sexuality of the woman who stops were not destroyed.” Wilhelm Reich
    .
′′ We mean it and invoking repeated experiences, and not in the name of theories, philosophies, beliefs, the work of #labor can be a succession of truly appropriate contractions, good, because they are generators of pleasure.”-Frédérick Leboyer
    .
′′ Even the divine curse ‘you will give birth with pain’ implied that it was not always so.”

  • A Surprise Twin Waterbirth

    ❤️ A SURPRISE TWIN WATERBIRTH ❤️

    A completely missed twin pregnancy.

Ultrasound did not pick up the other fetus, they only ever heard just one heartbeat and she measured right on track for carrying only 1 baby.

She birthed her first baby in the water and shortly after felt another strong contraction and another ring of fire.

As to which she yelled out “What the fuck?!”

The midwife said “Oh, it’s probably the placenta coming.”

Another midwife said “It’s a water bag, I’ve never seen that before.”

The whole room was in utter shock to see another baby come earthside and born encaul.

The likelihood of another baby hidding in the womb is extremely minuscule, but it happened.

Born at 38 weeks and 4 days, both babies weighed 6lbs 11oz, and both measured 20 inches.

  • Giving Birth During The Lockdown

I had a csection on Friday April 10th.
I went to the hospital excited, expecting to deliver and enjoy my baby boy with my husband by my side.
I was talking to the nurse who was preparing me for my csection… putting in my IV checking my blood pressure, checking baby’s heartbeat etc.
    When I cough….

She then proceeded to ask if my obgyn had checked my cough and I responded no
She then asked how long have I had the cough
I responded since the beginning of the week

She steps out and a few moments later someone comes in asking if I had been exposed to someone with the coronavirus. Now this person who came in had a mask, a face shield, a yellow gown, gloves and was standing feets away from me.

    I responded no

She then tells me that she’s going to test me for the virus, and warns me that it’ll go up my nose and that it’ll hurt.

    Oh boy did it hurt.
I wanted to scream and push her away from me.

She then says that the csection will still take place but that now they have to prep the O.R. a bit more.

An hour passes, now someone new comes in, as it turns out. My husband can’t go in with me and hold my hand while in having the csection.

I had gone to the hospital at 7am it’s now 10am and I’m finally going to my csection.

I go in alone, scared, nervous, and worried.

One doctor tells another nurse that once my baby is out I won’t be able to hold him, touch him but I can look at him. When I heard that I couldn’t hold back my tears.

They took forever to put in the epidural, they hurt me so much… just remembering it makes me cry. They poked me so many times on my back, told me not to move so many times. Had me bent over for so long.
No one wanted to hold my hand.

Finally they made me lay down they put my head in a box they had made out of tubes and a plastic bag around it, they tied my arms and legs then placed another plastic on top of the box. So I wouldn’t see what was going on.

The doctor cut me open and I began to feel pressure a lot of pressure. They pushed between my ribs and I began to scream and cry out that it hurt. But everyone with masks, face shield, the cold air blowing in they couldn’t hear me.
I began to wave my hands in hopes someone would see me moving and ask if I okay.
Finally someone did, I was already crying and told them that I can feel the doctor inside me.
They took out more blood from my arm.

They added more but by the time it kicked in I was still able to feel everything. I was in pain.

My baby boy was born at 11:55 am

I just hear the loudest most strong cry that I have ever heard.

My baby was born, my baby sounded healthy, my baby sounded strong.

Someone got close and said ” Congratulations you have a beautiful baby boy, he’s strong and big”

I heard them say “she can’t see him, it’s best to take him away. For his safety, take him away now, he can be checked in NICU.”

I had asked for my tubes to be tied, so the doctor began to tie my tubes.

I heard ” Right tube tied, left tube tied.”

    Then the pain again….

Same thing no one heard me.

I was crying, I was in pain, I didn’t get to see my baby. My husband is waiting in the other room for news on baby and me.

I hear the doctor say that he can control my bleeding, and telling everyone if they don’t need to be there to take off the protection gear and leave. This is covid-19 I can’t stop the bleeding. Hurry up and he wasn’t to get out.

I feel him putting stitches on my csection.

I was so cold I couldn’t stop shaking.

They added warm blankets around me so I could stop from shaking.

I get moved to the room where my husband is waiting for me.

He didn’t even know our baby was born he didn’t even get to see him.

Our baby was moved to NICU and was placed in isolation.

NICU calls my room and asks for baby’s full name.
My name, husband’s name, house address, etc.
Doctor comes in and says that he took pictures of baby and asked for husband’s number to send them to him.
Nurse took husband’s phone and took a video and pictures of baby.

I get moved to recovery room, in an isolation room for covid-19 patient.

My husband asks when can we see baby.

They tell us that baby and mom are in isolation and they are waiting 16 hours for mom’s test results from the coronavirus.

My husband asks if he can go home to take care of our 3 year old and then come back tomorrow.

They tell him if he leaves, he can’t come back. Not until I’m discharged. And he can’t see baby.

Husband leaves worried and upset that he can’t see our baby. He only had the pictures and one video of baby to look back on.

Doctor comes in hours later and gives me the worst news I have ever heard.
In the coldest tone ever, with no heart, with no sympathy.
“Your results came back positive for covid-19, you tested positive for the coronavirus. You can’t be near or see baby. Baby will have to be tested too.”

Tears poured down my face I couldn’t even look at him.

“Why are you crying, are you feeling pain from the csection, are you having symptoms from the virus?”

“No, I’m crying because this is worst news you could give me, I can’t see my son.”

He leaves and I’m left in the room alone.

I call my husband, I give him the news, he can’t stop crying.

I call my mom, my sister, my in laws.

Anyone and everyone that was near me, so they can go get tested.

The rest of my stay at the hospital was horrible.
I had the worst nurses ever.
    Only 2 were nice.
I got my catheter removed the next day (Saturday) was told I was expected to get up on my own in 4 hours, walk around IN THE ROOM, and use the bathroom with no help.

I have to go on my own because if I call for help by the time the nurse comes and gears up I already wizzed myself.

With all the pain, as slowly as I could, I got up and went to the bathroom.
I looked for undies, pad, and the bottle .
Found undies and pad but no bottle.

Nurse comes in to give me my pain killer pills and other pills.
This is a nice nurse, I inform her that I went to the bathroom already and I found everything but the bottle. She apologized that she was unable to help me get up and go to the bathroom and that she’ll be back with the bottle for next time that I may need to go use the restroom.

When the time for my meals, the person bringing it didn’t even bother to come all the way in, there was a trash can near the door and she would place the tray on top and tell me to take my time in getting up and getting my food.
I didn’t even bother on getting up. I just left it there.

I got a call from NICU telling me baby is okay baby is doing well.
But no way on calling myself when I felt like getting news on baby.

Sunday comes I get told I’m going to be discharged without baby, baby is still in isolation, baby got tested. Waiting on 16 hours for results.

Later on Sunday, test number two was done on baby without having results from test one.
(Baby needs to be 24 hours old for test one, 48 hours for test 2)

Hours later baby is negative for the coronavirus.

I call my husband in relief.

A nurse walks up to my door and asks who is going to come for me, that I need to leave.

I call husband and tell him to come to the hospital that I’m being discharged.

Husband arrives and tries to call NICU for news on baby before we go home. Nurse gets near the door and tells him to hang up the phone that we need to leave that we can’t stay any longer.

Husband demands to know why can’t he call to check on his son, and demands to know the name of nurse to report her.

Husband storms out wheeling me with him out of the hospital.

We get home nice nurse 2 calls me to give me direct number for NICU. Husband calls to check in on baby.

Husband calls Monday and gets news that second negative and he can go pick up baby from NICU. But momma can’t see or be around baby until 7 days after baby’s birth.

Mother in law and husband care for baby while I’m in isolation at home. 3 year old son doesn’t know momma is home. Baby’s first bath and second and I wasn’t there, I didn’t get to see.

Days later I came out from isolation but I need to wear mask, gloves and gown to hold baby.
I woke up at 7am took a shower on my own being 6 days from having csection. Went to where baby was and geared up and held my baby boy for the first time, I got to talk and meet my baby boy for the first time.
3 year old woke up at 10am and I got to hug my son after 6 days of not seeing him only video chatting. Tears of joy poured down my face. I was back with family.

I only coughed once at the hospital. I don’t feel sick, I don’t have a fever, I can breathe just fine.

    This is my birth story.
Worst month ever and it’s still not May.

I’m still wearing a mask now,
    I’m almost at the end.
Those days in isolation I was in the dark,
I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I didn’t go out to not be exposed during my pregnancy I don’t know where I got the virus from…

Thank you for reading my story, I still cry remembering what I went through to have my son’s with me.

  • You Aren’t Required To Give Birth In A Hospital

You aren’t required to give birth in a hospital. Did you know that? You’re allowed to decide if a birth center, hospital or your home is the best choice to birth your children.

You have the right to make choices that you feel are in the best interest of you and your babies. This is your body and you are their parent.

Do your research. Put together a birth team who will support your wishes and help to educate you on your options. Trust your intuition. You are the conductor of this experience and your birth team is there to help YOU.

This strong mama knew that she could birth her gorgeous twin girls at home. She put a team together to support her and received incredible care from local OBs along with the prenatal care of her homebirth midwife. She met each milestone necessary to have a homebirth and at 37 weeks and 4 days brought these sweet little ones into the world. Her strength inspires me as she fought hard to keep these babies safe until they decided it was time to enter the world.

Congrats to a wonderful family and please give a warm welcome to these girls who are already so loved.

It was such an honor to document.

    XOXO,

    Stacey

  • Stretch And Sweep Is Sexually Violating You

What you need to know because your care provider won’t tell you …

If there was one ritual I’d like to see banned before 40 weeks, it’s the stretch-and-sweep, aka membrane stripping.

The routine stretch-and-sweep is performed during a vaginal exam at any time beginning around 37 weeks. Mothers are seldom told it was done. And rare is the mother who is actually given enough information to make a wise decision. Even if she declines this heinous procedure, it’s often done without her consent (which is called sexual assault outside of the obstetrical/midwifery clinic). I’ve heard from hundreds of women over the years who were ritually violated and suffered the consequences.

A stretch-and-sweep involves having the provider’s gloved fingers manually stretch open the cervix and then strip the baby’s amniotic sack away from the cervical opening. The baby’s amniotic sack is normally adhered to the opening of the cervix in a way that prevents infectious agents from reaching the baby. It’s one of pregnancy’s many safe-guards.

It’s believed that manually dilating the cervix and separating the sack from the opening of the cervix will release extra prostaglandins that could stimulate labour.

Only prostaglandins don’t trigger normal labour. It’s a hormone that ripens the cervix. It’s actually the baby’s lungs that trigger labour when they secrete a protein just when they’re ready for air-breathing. Then oxytocin from mama’s brain brings on contractions.

A membrane stripping is intended to “prevent induction”. What your provider is saying to you (if they tell you) is:

“I will perform a mechanical induction to start labour artificially so that you might avoid a chemical induction after your due date with IV oxytocin in the hospital.”

Yes. A stretch-and-sweep is an induction that is meant to “prevent” induction. It is meant to bypass your baby’s lungs and all of the safety mechanisms of human birth to get the baby out before the baby is ready.

    It hurts.

    It makes you bleed.

It can cause your water to break meaning you now are expected to go to the hospital for a chemical induction.

    It can introduce infection.

It begins non-labour, disorganized, painful, non-dilating contractions most of the time.

Your provider will say that you are in labour with these induced painful non-dilating contractions.

You will be sent to the hospital for augmentation and may end up with a caesarean for failure-to-progress.

It’s a crappy way to have a baby.

Some studies say that doing a membrane stripping doesn’t shorten pregnancy. Other studies say it can shorten pregnancy by a couple of days. All studies say it introduces many risks to you and your baby. It’s a crappy way to have a baby.

And since many providers won’t tell you that they’re going to sexually violate you and put you and your baby in harm’s way, you must not only decline a stretch-and-sweep (which is often ignored – hello criminal offence) but also decline every vaginal exam prior to labour. Those exams have no benefit, give you no useful predictive information and introduce many risks. i.e. keep yer knickers on and yer knees together!

And for those who had a glorious stretch-and-sweep and had a baby a day later (yup, I’ve heard from at least 4 in the last 30 years amidst the several hundreds who have had crappy births), you’d have had the baby anyway. And I’m beyond happy that you had a good experience as most women don’t.

  • There’s No Trophy For Labour

    “There’s no trophy Ashley”

The best 4 words my husband could have said to me in that delivery room. It put my whole world as a Mom into perspective. I was in agony and trying to decide whether or not to get an epidural. I had no idea I was already at the very end of my labor and would be pushing Leo out within minutes. All I knew was that I was in pain and couldn’t imagine laboring like that for what I thought would be a few more hours.

I was trying to talk to him between contractions on the verge of tears and he lovingly spoke lots of support and some truth into my universe with, “There’s no trophy Ashley.”

Then when I was fretting about supplementing with some formula those first few days and not wanting to feel like I was already failing at breastfeeding I heard those words again, “There’s no trophy Ashley.”

There it hit me. As moms in today’s world it can feel like we’re all competing for a trophy that doesn’t exist. I literally thought in that delivery room that I would somehow be “less than” as mother for tapping out and asking for the drugs. Like there would be a gold medal or AT LEAST a gold sticker on my medical chart for having a natural birth. And I felt like I was letting some invisible committee down when we bought formula to help him pass the amniotic fluid he had swallowed.

Since having this third sweet boy six weeks ago I’ve given lots more thought to the invisible trophies we create as moms. Some society creates for us. Standards we try so hard to measure up to even though the contest is make believe and we were made to live in community, not competition.

🏆There’s no trophy for delivering naturally vs. opting for an epidural or having a C-section.

🏆There’s no trophy for breastfeeding vs. bottle feeding.

🏆There’s no trophy for losing the baby weight the fastest.

🏆There’s no trophy for cutest delivery gown (FOR THE LOVE, it’s okay to look like you just had a baby!!!).

🏆There’s no trophy for most creative birthday party theme.

🏆There’s no trophy for how many activities you sign your kids up for.

[This list could go on forever]

My husband has no idea how meaningful those words have been allowing me to relax into having a newborn again. And I wanted to invite you to relax into motherhood with me.

🤱Because the only trophy you’ll carry through life is the bond you create with your baby. And like I’ve said before, we all go home from the hospital with a big basket of mesh undies and sanitary pads the size of our newborns no matter how glamorous our Insta pics look.

  • Stop You Don’t Need To Purple Push Your Baby Out

🚫STOP! YOU DON’T NEED TO PURPLE PUSH TO GET YOUR BABY OUT🚫

What if I told you you don’t even need to push?🤫 Did you know your body is capable of pushing your baby out all on its own without extreme effort and/or hours of pushing? Ever heard a mommy say “I just couldn’t stop pushing and suddenly my baby was out!”. It’s called The Fetal Ejection Reflex!❤️

This is true for all humans as well as other mammals. So why are women told to purple push?🤨 Purple pushing is what we have accepted as normal in a medicalized world. Imagine a woman laying on her back while everyone in the room is telling her to hold her breath, put her chin to her chest, grab her legs and push for 10 second counts. All while at least 2-3 people are yelling “push push push push”.

That’s what we call purple pushing and/or directed pushing. It is not the most effective, comfortable or natural way to give birth. The fetal ejection reflex happens for women when they are fully safe, supported, and allowed to birth in peace. This can be rare to be seen or experienced in a birth filled with interventions, inductions and medication. What is the normal process for the fetal ejection reflex?🤔 How can you increase your chances of experiencing FER(fetal ejection reflex)?🤔 What are the benefits of FER?🤔

📌It is very common for a mother to experience labor to begin at night and progress rather easily in her home when it is dark and less people are around with less stimulation. Mommy feels it’s time to go to the hospital, she gets there, is surrounded by bright lights, loud sounds, a new environment with strangers which all raise her adrenaline levels and suddenly her labor slows down or will stop completely. This is a normal response to over stimulation and “flight or fight”. The neocortex of the mothers brain has been stimulated further preventing the mother from accessing her parasympathetic nervous system necessary for the primal state of giving birth. This is when hospitals start intervening the birthing process.

📌Often times, once mother is reaching the FER on her own, her labor will naturally slow or stop. This is the spot where hospital, again is wondering why labor is “stalling”, further introducing interventions like more pitocin or breaking your bag of waters. When in reality your body is resting up and building adrenaline to finish birthing the baby, and giving you an extreme amount of adrenaline and oxytocin to have you wide eyed and bushy tailed when your baby is born. It is not harmful to you or your baby to wait for your body to start laboring again. THIS IS NORMAL!

📌FER causes large amounts of adrenaline which in turn makes mommy seem uncontrollable. She might start to say things like “I can’t do this”, or “I’m gonna die”. This is a natural response to FER beginning. Hospital staff at this point works hard to try to get mommy under control or tell her she needs an epidural or narcotics to “calm down”. THIS RESPONSE FROM MOMMY IS NORMAL AND SHOULD BE MET WITH NOTHING BUT KIND WORDS AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO KEEP LABORING!

📌We are taught in a hospital setting that once we reach 10cm, it’s time to purple push. This can lead to hours upon hours of heavy duty pushing that can be ineffective, cause more vaginal tearing, cause stress to mother and baby and lead to a cesarean if mommy doesn’t push her baby out in a timely fashion and/or use of forceps for delivery. This is when we start to hear “your pelvis is too small”, or “baby is stuck”, or “baby is too big to come down”. Baby will come out on it’s own with patience and the understanding of how a woman’s body is meant to give birth!

📌During FER mommy experiences each contraction allowing her body to move baby down on its own until finally a large amount of Oxytocin is released and baby is ejected with only 3-4 strong contractions/pushes. Mommy will guide her own baby out with just listening to her body and using none to minimal effort. This reduces stress, vaginal tearing, and allows the delicate dance of perfectly balanced hormones to begin. Perfectly bonding and guiding mother and baby. It’s truly a magical sight and experience 😍

💜THINGS YOU CAN DO TO INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF FER💜

➖Meet anyone and everyone who could be delivering your baby

➖Get acquainted with the facility you will be giving birth in

➖Don’t allow everyone in your family to your birth. The less amount of people watching you birth, the better.

➖Make your birth intimate by lighting candles(if in a hospital you can use flameless candles). Bring essential oils and/or oil diffuser. Dim the lights in the room as much as possible. Ask everyone to use soft voices and only talk in between contractions. Lots of massages by your partner. Slow music to help you relax. Familiar items from your home, like pillows, blankets and a few favorite items of yours.

➖ONLY AGREE TO INTERVENTIONS IF THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY

➖Make it known that you do not want directed pushing/purple pushing

➖With the epidural, FER can be hard to come by but it’s still achievable with a well placed epidural and if you wait till you have the deep overwhelming urge to push.

‼️I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL AND AM NOT ADVISING YOU OF ANYTHING. PLEASE SPEAK TO YOUR PROVIDER‼️

  • Can You See That Bulge It’s Amazing

“Can you see that bulge on her lower back? That is the rhombus of Michaelis.

During the second stage of labour, a combination of bones including your sacrum actually move backwards and in doing so, increases the diameter of your pelvis.

This is what is known as opening of the back.

This is completely normal and is in fact an integral part of a physiological birth as it allows your baby the maximum amount of space to turn as they navigate their way out into the world.

In order to facilitate the opening of your back, you should use active birth positions where you are upright and leaning forwards.

    So cool right!

And while your pelvis is expanding, your baby’s head is moulding – changing shape to fit through those pelvic bones!

Your body was made to do this! And your body and your baby work together!

Birth is not something to be feared…it is something to be understood!

  • I Will Not Be Working To Get My Body Back

“No, no, you have it wrong, I will not be working to get my body back.

    She was never lost.

She was here, giving every moment and detail to this sweet baby.

She was pushed and exhausted, stretched and stripped to make space for a new life.

    Please stand back and aside.

For her sacrifice she will not be scrutinized.

She will be loved, and thanked and bowed down to.

She will be allowed her time to heal and be settled into.

This body’s work will not be forgotten, hidden or erased.

And if you feel it should, you understand nothing about the gift she has given.

No, no Body don’t listen. Because I see you. I thank you deeply. You did so good.”

🔘𝕊𝕃𝕆𝕎 𝔸ℕ𝔻 𝕊𝕋𝔼𝔸𝔻𝕐 𝕎𝕀ℕ𝕊 𝕋ℍ𝔼 ℝ𝔸ℂ𝔼🔘

Contrary to belief, the slow delivery of the baby’s head over an intact perineum 𝘿𝙊𝙀𝙎 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙄𝙈𝙋𝘼𝘾𝙏 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙒𝙀𝙇𝙇 𝘽𝙀𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙊𝙁 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝘽𝘼𝘽𝙔!

In fact, a baby who’s head was born slowly over an intact perineum has higher apgar scores upon birth.

The rationale of speeding the baby’s head through the birth canal is not a valid one.

A faster birth of the head does not equal a healthier baby.

Slow, mother-led pushing, and allowing the fetal head to sit in the perineum with slow stretching decreases perineal trauma as well as gives the baby adequate time to benefit from chest compression in the vagina canal to remove amniotic fluid from lungs.

Routine episiotomies are most certainly not healthier for mother or baby and is not recommended unless medically indicated.

Rushing for no reason is 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝘼 𝙈𝙀𝘿𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙇 𝙄𝙉𝘿𝙄𝘾𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉!
