  • Grief Stricken Mothers Warning About Swimming Pools

    One grief-stricken mother recently contact Mums advice and pleaded with us to raise awareness of swimming pools and the risks involved when in local pools or whilst on holiday.

    Now you may be thinking her child had passed away by drowning but this mums story shocked me to the core and we just had to share.

    The mum wishes to remain anonymous but she explained her 12-year-old daughter who was a very confident swimming and was never far from her side, died whilst on holiday in Egypt last year due to the vacuum effect in the swimming pools drain.

    The drain is powerful enough to hold swimmers, especially young children or light weight adults to the bottom of the pool. Contact between human skin and a flat pool drain can create a huge suction equal to hundreds of pounds of pressure.

    In this horrific instance, four adult men were unable to pull this young teenager from the grasp of the deadly drain which ripped out her small intestines as the poor girl and the men struggled to pull her free, by the time the hotel had turned the pump off it was already to late for this girl.

    Swimmers can die from drowning or evisceration by these pool drains.

    The grief-stricken mother wants to warn all parents to advice their children to steer clear of these filters and to be extra careful when going under water or sitting on the pools floor or using hot tubs especially when on holiday as some countries don’t comply with safety regulations and are putting holiday makers at grave risk.

    The mum said that the loss of her daughter has been unbearable to live with but hopes that by sharing her daughters story she may prevent another tragedy happening and stop another family from losing an innocent child or loved one.

    His name stands for You Only Live Once but Yolo the Staffordshire Bull Terrier life ended in agony and alone – and his owner avoided jail.

    A court heard how his owner Emma Miles locked him in the kitchen of her flat when she moved out, leaving him to starve to death. Only fur and faeces were found in his stomach and his internal organs had decomposed.

    Emma Miles (Forber) a 28-year-old mother of two, left the Staffordshire Bull Terrier locked in the kitchen of the council flat she rented in Oak Drive, Dursley, Gloucestershire when she moved to a new address in August 2016, magistrates Following her formal eviction from the property, council workers clearing the property discovered that the kitchen floor was covered in faeces and a brown sludge, and subsequently discovered the emaciated corpse of a dog wrapped in a plastic bin bag, which had been placed in a cupboard.

    When Stroud District Council’s animal welfare officers were called in to investigate the case Miles claimed that she had given the dog, named Yolo, to a former boyfriend.

    However rigorous investigations by SDC animal welfare officer Alex Myrie demonstrated that was not the case, and that Miles had left Yolo alone in the flat without food, water or human company over a period of weeks, which resulted in him starving to death.

    A post-mortem examination found that the dog’s stomach contents contained only dog fur and faeces, the only sources of food that would have been available to him.

    A wound was discovered that was consistent with a pressure sore arising from an inability to move prior to his death. The brown sludge found on the kitchen floor was consistent with the advanced decomposition of internal organs.

    A vet appointed by the council reported that Yolo ‘suffered a great deal in the slow, cruel and unnecessary process of starvation.’

    Miles was found guilty of causing Yolo unnecessary suffering which resulted in his death and was sentenced to 18 weeks of custody, suspended for 12 months and ordered to complete 180 hours of unpaid work in the community within 12 months. She was disqualified from owning or having responsibility for any animal for 10 years and ordered to pay £1,000 towards council costs as well as a £115 victim surcharge.

    Mrs Myrie, who led the investigation, said: “In my 16 years in this role, this is the worst case of animal cruelty I have had to deal with.

    “The last days and weeks of Yolo’s life must have been the stuff of nightmares. Staffies thrive on human company and the thought of Yolo spending his last week’s not only starving and thirsty but also lonely, breaks my heart.

    “It seems a cruel irony that Yolo’s name stands for ‘You Only Live Once’ when his life ended so cruelly and needlessly.

    “There are no winners in cases of this nature but we are very grateful to the courts for bringing Miss Miles to account for her actions, in particular banning her from having any responsibility for any animal for the next 10 years.” 10 POXY YEARS 😡

    Councillor Simon Pickering, chairman of Stroud District Council’s environment committee said: “The level of cruelty uncovered in this case is completely abhorrent.

  • Grieving mum warns others of the dangers of taking to the road

    A grieving mum whose teenage son died after being thrown from a moped has warned of the dangers of taking to the roads on bikes that aren’t roadworthy.

    Tina Richards’ son Kian Buckler was just 15 when, as a pillion passenger, he was catapulted from a 125cc scooter being ridden by his friend Brett Everitt following a collision with a car in Lunt Road, Bilston.

    Neither boy was wearing a helmet at the time of the 29 November crash and, despite it being pitch black, West Midlands Police collision investigators discovered Everitt was riding the bike without headlights

    Budding mechanic Kian was critically injured and tragically died two days later in hospital.

    Everitt survived the collision and was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance, and failing to provide a sample of blood for analysis.

    And at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday (15 Jan) the 16-year-old, from Thompson Road in Oldbury was sentenced to five years’ detention in a youth offenders institute. He was also banned from driving for five-and-a-half years.

    This is a tragic case in which two young lives have been ruined…it once again highlights the risks involved with young people riding motorcycles in a dangerous and reckless manner.

    Everitt chose to do this without any regard for himself or other road users and ultimately caused the death of his friend Kian Buckler.

    He will have to live with the consequences of his actions for the rest of his life and I would urge anyone who is tempted to get on a bike and ride it in such a way to think very hard about the potential consequences.

    The driver of the car that collided with the scooter drove away from the scene but officers later found the Toyota Auris on a nearby driveway.

    Checks on police systems revealed the 37-year-old was banned from driving until August 2020 and he was later jailed for eight weeks after admitting driving while disqualified, without insurance and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

    However, he was deemed not to have been responsible for the crash.

    Mum Tina Richards said her son Kian made a “stupid decision” to get on the bike but said he would have steered clear had he appreciated its unsafe condition.

    She said: “Kian always ensured he maintained his own bicycle properly and took great care of it. I know nobody made him get onto the back of that bike but he had no control over the way Brett rode it…and he would have avoided it had he realised its true condition.

    “Losing Kian has left a great big hole in my life, which will never be filled. I miss his attitude, I miss his smile, I miss his presence. I miss him asking me for a bowl of cereal every night, I miss waking him up for school every day, I miss seeing him play with his little sister.

    I will never get to see him go to his school prom, get married, have children of his own. I won’t get to see him open his Christmas presents ever again. His two-year-old sister keeps asking where Kian is and it’s really difficult trying to explain he’s not coming back.”

    The judge lifted all reporting restrictions on the case meaning media can report the offender’s name despite him being a juvenile.

    As a child I grew up with my two best friends Pebbles the Jack Russell and Chesney the west highland terrier.

    Me and my dogs were so close i loved grooming them and taking them for walks and having them sleep at the foot of my bed.

    Pebbles passed away when I was 11 and Chesney died when I was 14, each death broke me, I was devastated and my parents said no more pets.

    Eventually I grew up and moved out with my now husband and went on to have two children but something was missing I needed a furry companion.

    I bought Russell first he was such a welcome addition to our family, I was happy again.

    But as Russell got older I knew that my beautiful boy only had a few years left in him, and I just couldn’t go through the pain of seeing him pass away.

    I thought long and hard about what to do and decided I would find an older couple who would love Russell just as I did and replace him with a new dog, I then would not go through the pain of knowing when he passed away.

    Next came Dexter a bundle of energy a fit and healthy pooch, my heart melted the first time I saw him. When he was eight I was left with the hard decision again, watch my baby age and die or have the ignorance is bliss again.

    I found a rescue centre for Dexter which had the policy never to put a healthy dog down.

    I am now on to Princess, the sweetest little lap dog, who is like a little baby she makes me so happy.

    I have received a lot of negativity towards my decision to trade in my pets, but unless you have been through the pain of seeing your dog pass away you won’t understand.

    In my head all my dogs are still alive happy and with loving families.

    Princess is four now and I’m getting on so she maybe my last dog but I won’t see it out til the end I can’t have that heartbreak

    So I popped in to the care home to see mum earlier on the way to the hospital to see dad.. What I found when I went in was absolutely disgraceful. 

    Went into mums room at 5:50 to find her sat in her chair in the dark, no lights on at all, and the TV turned off. This is bad enough, yet it gets worse..

    She is sat like this with her evening meal and drink in front of her, unaccompanied when every single member of staff is fully aware that she is at serious risk of choking on food and drink. They have been told this numerous times, yet still ignore it. 

    She didn’t look right in herself at all, disoriented and looked worried.

    She was soaking wet throughout, to even her leggings being soaked, so she had certainly been left like this for a substantial amount of time. Then I found that whatever ‘carer’ had changed her earlier in the day had put her pad on the wrong way round. It is made a certain shape so almost impossible to get wrong!

    I ended up having to shower her myself, at which point it had been an hour since I had got there and still no one had come to check on her and make sure that she hadn’t choked. She had no soap or shower gel in there so what the hell have they been using to shower her with? I noticed some bed sores which are due to the carers leaving her sat in her own piss and shit for extortionate amounts of time, this can lead to Sepsis and can be deadly.

    Again, they have been told about this many times and still ignore it. They try to blame it on the pads yet she had not once got sore at home so how can it be down to the pads?  

    There was a little cup on the shelf above her bed with tablets in, god knows how long it had been there for. What if another resident had walked in and taken them, or if mum had managed to reach and take them? This could have been a lot more serious and potentially involve a death. 

      Again, they have been using the Sara Steady which was obvious with it being left next to her bed, every single member of staff has been told by Dad and also by the Social Worker, not to use this for transfers and to use her walker instead to keep transfers consistent each time. Again, it gets ignored and because if that she has lost more mobility and independence.

    Oh, and the bloody stupid handrail next to the toilet in the bathroom.. how the hell can that even be useful to a client? It’s about 1ft too bloody low! I stood up and it was too low for me to reach, fucking ridiculous. 

     Eventually the person in charge decided to come to talk to me about my concerns, to which they she said that she had been extremely busy and had to deal with 3 or 4 falls, she tried to say that she had been sat with mum earlier when she first had her food and said that mum would back her up? So let me get this straight, you’re trying to say that a 48-year-old woman with MS, Dementia, and Advanced Cognitive Impairment who often does not recognise her own children will have the mental capacity to correctly back you up?!

    Of course I can understand that they have had apparently a busy day, but if the staff cannot deal with the workload then surely they should cut back on the amount of clients, or employ more people. 2 carers to 15 clients is a complete joke. They will listen to complains, but not document anything or make any changes whatsoever. Think it’s about time they sorted themselves out before they all seriously regret it!
     

    I can now safely confirm that this Care Home is Whittington House Nursing Home Cheltenham. We have decided that it is now appropriate to publicly name the home as the manager has now resorted to retaliating to the below safeguarding concerns and complaints by using ‘Tit For Tat’ tactics attempting to cause trouble between us and the social worker, who is in fact fantastic at her job and a very decent person, so these petty tactics have not worked.

    A Mum whose baby died 70 minutes after being born has been told her baby could have survived, four years after the tragedy.

    Chloe Turner, of Dovercourt, Essex, had to have an emergency C-section at Colchester Hospital when a normal pregnancy suddenly turned to tragedy in April 2013.

    Her daughter Lola-Rae was born very unwell and despite attempts to save her life she was pronounced dead just 70 minutes later.
    An inquest in 2014 ruled Lola-Rae died of natural causes after she suffered impaired oxygen delivery during labour.

    But Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust has now admitted that earlier intervention could have prevented the death and save Lola-Rae’s death and paid an undisclosed out-of-court settlement.

    Prolonged use of drugs given to induce labour and meconium staining caused Lola respiratory distress.
    And the trust has said if a c-section had have been carried out in the hour and 20 minutes after her heart rate first dropped Lola would have survived.
    Chloe, 23, said: “Even if they hadn’t said it, in my eyes it was always their fault but the fact they admitted it gives some closure.

    “I didn’t do it for the money, I wanted justice and I didn’t want it to happen to any other parent or child.
    “Of the settlement money, for Lola’s life they paid £1,500 – I think it’s disgusting for a life.
    “It was all down to them.
    “People say time is a healer but I don’t buy into that, the more time that goes on I feel I’m missing her grow up.”

    Chloe also has a 15-month-old daughter Maci and five-year-old daughter Ruby who she says are also missing out on knowing their sister.
    “My oldest asks all the time where her sister is, it’s heartbreaking.”
    Jerard Knott, associate solicitor at Curtis Law Solicitors said: “This is a tragic and entirely avoidable event.
    “Proper monitoring, treatment and intervention would have meant that Lola would have been born healthy.
    “For Chloe the impact is that save for some mementoes her other children will never have the sister they should have had.”

  • Mum dies alone in cold house – wrapped up in a coat and scarf

    Grieving relatives of a loving mum stated she died alone and cold in her freezing cold house after her benefits were stopped because she was too ill to attend a benefit meeting.

    Elaine Morrall passed away whilst wearing a thick winter coat and a scarf indoors because she couldn’t afford to pay for heating and had switched it off until her children got home from school, her priorities were keeping her children warm and not herself.

    The 38-year-old, who suffered from an eating disorder and mental health problems, was found dead at her home earlier this month.

    In recent days, a fundraising campaign has been launched to raise money for her devastated four children and help ease some of their burden.

    Elaine’s mum, Linda, sent a raging and “brokenhearted” letter to her local councillor in Halton.

    In in an open letter on Facebook, she wrote:

    “How many people have got to die before this government realises they are killing vulnerable people?”

    Her plea has gone viral on social media.

    Linda said: “My daughter lived in Boston Ave. She died on the afternoon of 2 November, 2017 at home on her own. She was 38yrs.

    “In the cold with her coat & scarf on. Because she wouldn’t put her heating on until her kids came home from school. Why?? Because she couldn’t afford it.

    “Because she was severely depressed. Suffered from eating disorder & many other problems for many years.

    “Mainly due to authoritarians of one form or another. I can give you details. Was in & out of hospital in recent months in intensive care.

    “But was deemed not ill enough for ESA [Employment and Support Allowance]. Had her benefits stopped numerous times, which in turn stopped her housing benefit.

    “No income but expected to be able to pay full rent. Was told being in intensive care was not sufficient reason for failing to attend a universal credit interview.

    “I went to the job centre to inform them that she couldn’t attend. But benefits stopped again.

    “Uncaring housing taking her to court. She’s due to go to court on Monday. Is being dead now enough reason? Is that what’s had to happen to prove she was ill?

    “How many people have got to die before this government realises they are killing vulnerable people??

    “What are you and your fellow councillors going to do to protect your constituents?”

    Halton MP Derek Twigg , who is now working with the family, said: “It is a very tragic case and I am providing assistance to my constituent.

    “The family are grieving and request that they are given the privacy, time and space they need at this time.”

    A Department for Work and Pensions spokesman said: “Our thoughts are with Ms Morrall’s family at this difficult time.

    “We understand that people can’t always attend appointments, which is why we will re-arrange alternative times.

    “Assessment decisions are made with consideration of all the information provided, including supporting evidence from a GP or medical specialist.

    “Anyone who disagrees with a decision can appeal.”

    Jonathan Horsfall, Halton Housing Trust debt recovery manager, said: “We always follow strict procedures around arrears.

    “We strive to find solutions with our customers and have intensive support workers who enable us to do so where possible.

    “Our support services are on offer to those who we know are in arrears, and are always reached out to for support.

    “If customers are concerned about arrears we always encourage anyone to get in touch with us as early as possible in the arrears process so we can do all we can to help.”

     

  • Breaking News-Mass Shooting, Multiple Casualties Including Children

    At least twenty people have been killed and multiple injured in a mass shooting at a church in south Texas America.


    ABC news has just reported a man in “full gear” entered a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, 30 miles southeast of San Antonio, at around 11.30am local time (17.30 GMT) on Sunday.

    It has been reported, at least 27 people have died and another 27 have been injured, some seriously.


    Reports on a news network said, the gunman has been “taken down by.


    The Sheriff’s Office told CNN he died after a brief car chase, but it is not clear if he was killed by police or took his own life.
    Sheriff Joe Tackitt confirmed to Wilson County News that there have been “multiple casualties and fatalities”.


    Roughly 50 people usually attend Sunday service at this church.


    Local news outlets have reported that children are among the dead.
    The San Antonio FBI branch confirmed its agents have been deployed, but there is no indication of the gunman’s motive.

    Pregnant Woman Almost Died After Baby Kicked Through Her Uterus

    A pregnant woman narrowly avoided death after her unborn child “kicked” through her uterine wall. Fortunately, the mother and newborn baby both survived this exceptional mishap.

    The uterus is connected to the fallopian tubes and the cervix

    The woman, was in her 36th week of her pregnancy. She was sent to Hospital on the 17th of October 2016 after suffering from severe stomach pain, the hospital reported in as long with her intensifying abdominal pain, doctors also noted problems with her blood pressure, pulse, and breathing.

    The mum had  surgery, just a few months before becoming pregnant, to remove fibroids from her uterus. These are non-cancerous growths that can grow along the wall of the uterus. After discovering this in her medical notes, the doctors quickly carried out a scan where they diagnosed a “high degree of suspected scar rupture of the uterus”.


    After making this diagnosis, it took doctors just 5 minutes to rush the mum into a operating theatre. They found the babies legs poking into her abdominal cavity through a 7-centimeter rip in her uterus.

    The doctors said the woman’s previous surgery left scar tissue in her womb, leaving the uterus wall far more at risk of breaking/ripping. This is known as a rupture pregnancy.

    These are thought to affect less than 5 in 1,000 pregnant women who have previously had a C-section, the risk is far lower for first-time mums and for women who haven’t previously had a C-section. It’s even rare to experience this after having surgery for uterine fibroid.

    In this case, both mum and baby were at a huge risk of infection. Thankfully, doctors managed to deliver the baby with complete success. The mum and her baby are now said to be happy and recovering well.

    This phenomenon is exceptionally rare but not unheard of, we are all just thankful that the doctors worked so quickly and mum and baby are doing well.

    British supermarkets such as Tesco’s, high street retailers and online firms are selling baby sleep positioners despiteserious health warnings, while hundreds of listings were still on eBay despite the firm vowing to remove them from their site.

    British supermarkets, high street retailers and online firms are selling the products, also called “nests” or “anti-roll” cushions, despite warnings that they could cut off a baby’s oxygen and causing 12 known deaths in the US.

    The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is reminding parents and caregivers not to put babies in sleep positioners. These products—sometimes also called “nests” or “anti-roll” products—can cause suffocation (a struggle to breathe) that can lead to death.The two most common types of sleep positioners feature raised supports or pillows (called “bolsters”) that are attached to each side of a mat, or a wedge to raise a baby’s head. The positioners are intended to keep a baby in a specific position while sleeping and are intended for infants under 6 months old.

    To reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths, including accidental suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that infants sleep on their backs, positioned on a firm, empty surface. This surface should not contain soft objects, toys, pillows, or loose bedding.

    Safety Advice for Putting Babies to Sleep.

    NEVER use infant sleep positioners. Using this type of product to hold an infant on his or her side or back is dangerous.

    NEVER put pillows, blankets, loose sheets, comforters, or quilts under a baby or in a cot. These products also can be dangerous. Babies don’t need pillows and adequate clothing—instead of blankets—can keep them warm.

    ALWAYS keep cots and sleeping areas bare. That means you should also never put soft objects or toys in sleeping areas.

    ALWAYS place a baby on his or her back at night and during nap time. An easy way to remember this is to follow the ABCs of safe sleep: “Alone on the Back in a bare Crib.”
