  • Is This The Greatest Baby Name

    Ok so when we received this message last year we weren’t sure if it was real or not but my god did it make us laugh.

    Hi can I have a post please, I split from my girlfriend a few months back and she’s just given birth to our son, this is great im so excited to be a dad.

    But she’s named the baby Keith, not only do I not like the name but even his initials spell Keith

    The new dad went on to express his fear of introducing baby Keith to his friends, saying how do you tell people that your child is named after a 50 year old Scottish brawler.

    Mums Advice members laughed at the name choice but took pity on this poor new dad, many defended the name Keith saying it was a lovely name but the initials were too much.

  • The Most Dangerous Advice Given

    These are some of the most dangerous replies we have ever received on Mums advice

    Question: My baby is still waking up for feeds in the night how can I help him sleep longer?

    Reply: Put Rusks in his bottle to fill him up for longer.

    Please do not do this it is a serious choking risk, your baby will sleep through when ready.

    Question: What contraception does everyone suggest?

    Reply: I use the pull out method yet to get pregnant

    No, No, No this is not a great way to prevent pregnancy, you can get pregnant through pre-cum and is not effective method.

    Question: My baby always seems to have wind any suggestions to help her bring it up?

    Reply: Hold her upside down by her legs

    Just no seriously lets all dangle our babies by their legs.

    Question: At what age did everyone wean their babies?

    Reply: I weaned my baby at 8 weeks and he’s absolutely fine

    Come on guys really we all know that just because one baby was fine doesn’t mean its ok. Weaning is not recommended until 6 months

    Question: Whats the best thing for teething?

    Reply: Rub brandy round their gums or add salt to their dummy

    What are you even thinking do I really need to explain why these methods are wrong

    Question: I’m 2 days over due what can help start my labour?

    Reply: Castor oil

    Please for the love of god do not use castor oil it can give you serious diarrhoea but more importantly can mae baby come too quickly causing them to become distressed and poo inside of you.

    Question: my 3 year old keeps biting what can I do to stop this?

    Reply: Bite them back teach them a lesson

    Ok lets all bite our children, what a great life lesson. NOT. Not only is it wrong on so many levels it’s also abuse.

    Question: When did you change the teets on bottles to make the flow faster?

    Reply: I never bought new teets i just cut the tips off.

    This is so dangerous if a teet on a bottle starts to break or split throw it away, bits can come of and baby can choke

    Question: My 5 year old keeps swearing how do I explain that it’s a naughty word?

    Reply: Every time they swear put soap or hot sauce in their mouth

    OK this is so dumb!!!! social services would have a field day, not to mention its terrible parenting and awful for the child.

    Question: Its my sister’s wedding next month id love to have a drink but im 6 months pregnant, can I have a small tipple?

    Reply: Just drink Guinness it’s full of iron and good for you

    All alcohol should be avoided during pregnancy, there are plenty of nice tasting alcohol free drinks available

    Question: I Cant breastfeed due to certain reasons what formula would people suggest?

    Reply: If your child isn’t breastfed they wont be smart

    oh come on love we all know breast is best but it makes no difference if they have breast or formula to their intelligence.

    Question: My baby is 6 months old and looks a bit squashed in a rear facing car seat can I put then in  booster seat?

    Reply: Yes my baby moved to a forward facing car seat at 5 months old and looks so much comfortable.

    Do you not read the news?  Babies should stay rear facing for as long as possible, survival rates of car crashes are vastly increased by having your baby rear facing

  • Dont Make Me Grow Up Too Fast

    Toodlers can be a right handful!

    That’s no secret.

    But some parents can seem to be in such a rush to push past this stage.  So eager to get to the next part of their child’s development they might forget to stop and enjoy the moment.

    Toodlers can be quite annoying.  But they are also fantastic, interesting, unique and sometimes bizarre creatures!

    As parents you always want to give your children the best of everything.  It’s only natural.  But what do children really need? They need a family that love them.  Parents that spend time with them making memories.

    Children don’t need the best things.

    They need loving parents.

    How having a baby changed my world From my perspective
    Before pregnancy:

    • Nurse
    • Partner

    Avid gym goer

    • Happy

    Able to sleep
    After child :

    I lost all of the above. Except my partner, he was still there. And by god am I glad of it. He makes me carry on when I want to roll over and let my post natal depression take over

    I could no longer go to work (maternity leave), arranging childcare was an absolute nightmare so I lost my status of friend for the most part, could no longer go to the gym as again childcare constraints (HELLO WEIGHT GAIN)

    Depressed, anxious, fearful, paranoid
    Post natal depression had got its hold on me, and by god what a grip it had!

    I lost who I was, I was no longer the nurse, partner, friend or avid gym goer anymore

    Instead, I was “mum” I had lost everything I worked hard for, for one word “mum”
    Now, don’t get me wrong being a mum is fantastic. Amazing. Beautiful

    But hard. Oh so hard. Battling with a crying baby, battling with post natal depression and every side effect that came along with it.

    But I feel like I lost my identity. I couldn’t identify who I was anymore

    My life now revolves around this child…

    I need to teach this child EVERYTHING.. shit, that is a massive expectation! I need to know all the answers, like mums do, I need to become a grown up, I need to be a role model, a friend, a saviour and a discipliner like all other mums.

    So while “mum” may just be one word.. the expectation that comes with it is sooooo much bigger
    I love my kids more than anything in this world, and I will do my damned hardest to keep them out of harms way. I now ADORE being “mum” and realised it’s not as bad as it first seemed.

    PND is a nasty evil illness, but with the right support, help and mental attitude YOU can overcome it

  • Do Not Cover Your Baby

    Seeing a parent pushing a pushchair with a blanket draped over it is a fairly common sight. However, Doctors have warned it could potentially be fatal.It would quickly become uncomfortable and potentially dangerous for the baby … if a baby gets too hot then the baby may think that it is back in the womb, which is why breathing may stop.
    An experiment was conducted when the pushchair was left on a normal summers day  uncovered the temperature did not rise above 22C. A thin cover was then placed over the pushchair. After 30 minutes the heat inside had risen 34C. An hour after it was a sweltering 37C.

    Parents end up resorting to draping blankets over their prams to give babies some shade from the heat and darkness to help them sleep, but what they’re not considering is that these blankets or sheets are not manufactured to be breathable.

    Regardless of what you choose to use on your pushchair, it is common sense to keep your baby cool and shaded in hot weather. The sunlight is made even more dangerous by UV, so if you can also use something that blocks these rays, your baby will feel even cooler.

  • The Worlds Youngest Mum

    Lina Vanessa Medina – the youngest mum in history was Peruvian Lina Medina she gave birth to a baby boy at the age of five in 1939.

    She is still considered the youngest mum all over the world and registered in Guinness World Records.
    The pregnancy of world’s youngest mum progressed almost unnoticeably and impalpable and only the growing belly indicated her condition.

    It was found out only in her 7th month that she was pregnant. The delivery passed successfully by means of caesarean section, the newborn son was healthy, his height and weight normal: 18.8 inches and 6 pounds.

    Her second child was born 33 years later in 1972.
    Interesting fact: the girl’s mother noticed that her daughter is physically developing too fast almost immediately after Lina was born. Her pubic hair began growing at 3 months after birth, and at the age of 8 months her first menstruation period began.

    When Lina was four, her breasts started developing and that year she became Pregnant 🤰 . 

    The doctors confirmed it, saying that the youngest mother’s ovaries at that time had already been as those of an adult woman. This phenomenon is called early sexual maturity and it is mostly rare in occurrence among children younger than 5.

    Who was the father of the world’s youngest mother’s baby now that is still a mystery. The fact of sexual abuse was confirmed, but we won’t have ever found out who did it to a little girl. Lina Medina has never given any interviews, not then or ever. 

  • Sleeping on your back can cause stillbirth

    Pregnant women who sleep on their back are at greater risk of having a stillbirth, a new study suggests.

    But impaired fetal growth is a far more likely cause, researchers say.

    Mothers-to-be who sleep in this position are five times more likely to have a baby with a low birth weight, and for some women this results in the tragedy of a stillbirth.

    More than a quarter of cases might be avoided simply by ensuring that women change their sleeping position, researchers said.

    The study was conducted in Ghana, Africa, where between 20 to 50 out of every 1,000 babies are stillborn, compared with just 3.5 in the UK.

    But a recent study in New Zealand suggests that supine sleep – the technical term for sleeping on your back – is linked to higher stillbirth rates in high income countries also.

    The study’s senior author, Louise O’Brien, from the University of Michigan, said: “If maternal sleep position does play a role in stillbirth, encouraging pregnant women everywhere not to sleep on their back is a simple approach that may improve pregnancy outcomes”The data in this study suggests that more than one-quarter of stillbirths  might be avoided by altering maternal sleep position.”

    Scientists found that pregnant women who sleep on their backs risk uterine compression on their inferior vena cava, which can lead to reduced cardiac output, and stillbirth.

    Researchers said the study shows that giving pregnant women simple advice on how to sleep could radically reduce the number of stillbirths.
