  • The Unneccassary Touch Must Stop

The “impertinent and unnecessary” touch in week 37 (or 38, or 39… 41)

Nothing disgusts me more than taking advantage of the vulnerability of a term pregnant.

Making a vaginal touch before the beginning of labor does not offer any advantage, it does not predict when you will be in labor and only increases the risk of infections, produces fear, uncertainty, loss of confidence in the woman, in addition to being completely exposed to Professionals without criterion perform the maneuver of Hamilton (Mechanical method of childbirth induction)

Just out of curiosity, I got to read some of these online magazines for pregnancy, to go groping the information they deliver about the touches in consultations with the obstetrician in recent weeks.

And I’m finding myself with a big surprise. Hundreds of women stranded, anxious, full of doubts and lamenting the imperfection of their bodies because with 37 or 38 weeks ” the baby was still not fit ” ” it wasn’t dilated or a little ” ” the baby is too high ” And there are not few who, in addition, leave the consultation with a hospitalization order for caesarean section or induction. No touch should be made before the start of labor! Their bodies are perfect for birth, hormonal signs of the body and baby have not yet triggered. I wouldn’t have to have dilatation or baby fit. You have to have patience and a lot of support of some doula, some respectful midwife, the couple well informed, but who encourage her to trust her body knows how to give birth and at her own time.

But we continue reading stories of obstetric violence. Many women mean that they made a very painful touch and came out bleeding from the consultation. Most likely it was a Hamilton maneuver, without before explaining the risks and waiting for your authorization or consent.

That is a serious violation of the rights of us as patients and we must denounce them. Let’s go, don’t play with our bodies.

  • This Is What Birth Without Consent Looks Like

This is what birth WITHOUT CONSENT looks like

This is what TAKING ADVANTAGE of the naivety of a young birthing woman looks like

A vulnerable 20 year old, oblivious to the fact that she had options, that she could say no

An unnecessary induction she was told was ESSENTIAL because her waters had broken.. only 4 hours earlier

Countless internal examinations, unconsented and unwarranted

The highest dose of Syntocin given to begin, because birth suite was heaving and they “needed to get things moving quickly”..

An immediate epidural because “she wouldn’t be able to manage the pain of contractions so better to get it done now”

A shortened time frame to push because “if a cesarean was necessary the Dr was available now”.. how convenient

A baby born distressed because his mother was pressured and panicking from the ticking time bomb of her allowed pushing time

A placenta instantly ripped from her body, with no option of a physiological 3rd stage, even though that was in her birth plan..

A young woman left wondering, is birth supposed to be that horrific? But later realising no, she’d been a product of ‘the system’

    TAKE CONTROL of your birth

Do your own research, be INFORMED, do not consent to anything you are not comfortable with

Knowledge is power and the power is in YOUR hands 💪🏻

  • Can You See That Bulge It’s Amazing

“Can you see that bulge on her lower back? That is the rhombus of Michaelis.

During the second stage of labour, a combination of bones including your sacrum actually move backwards and in doing so, increases the diameter of your pelvis.

This is what is known as opening of the back.

This is completely normal and is in fact an integral part of a physiological birth as it allows your baby the maximum amount of space to turn as they navigate their way out into the world.

In order to facilitate the opening of your back, you should use active birth positions where you are upright and leaning forwards.

    So cool right!

And while your pelvis is expanding, your baby’s head is moulding – changing shape to fit through those pelvic bones!

Your body was made to do this! And your body and your baby work together!

Birth is not something to be feared…it is something to be understood!

  • My Baby Died Tonight And I’m Still In Shock

My baby died tonight. Hank died. And I’m still in shock so I’m writing it now. He died.

He choked on a muffin. An ordinary muffin. My child who inhaled bananas and oranges and all the scary foods with ease choked on a single bite of banana muffin. 911 was called right away. And the hymlich was performed. And he never lost consciousness with us so when we got to the hospital we thought it was going to be okay. But it was not.

They worked on him for almost 3 hours I think. I’m still really confused why they couldn’t just pluck the single bite of muffin from his throat but they couldn’t. And his heart gave out. And they performed compressions for nearly an hour before they called us back in to tell us we could hold his hand while they performed compressions for 2 more minutes. I sang to him during that time. Cried to him. Yelled at him that his story was not over. That he wasn’t ever supposed to happen so it didn’t make sense this would be the end of his story. He was supposed to go on and have an incredible story. His brother, who named him needed him to come home and continue to be his sidekick. That’s why we named him Hank Watson. I told him to come back. He didn’t come back.

I’m still in shock. I think I’d like to never come out of it. Our people are here. Taking care of us. I don’t know what tomorrow will look like or where this journey will go. I just feel like I want to tell everyone. Because maybe they could just mourn for me and I won’t have to feel it. Maybe this is a nightmare I’ll wake up from tomorrow.

I know that we live in a broken world and broken things happen. And the Lord loves me. And He loves Hank. And I don’t want anyone to tell me there’s a reason for this because sometimes bad things are just bad things that coexhist with good things. And that’s okay. And I’m mad and I’m sad and I’m very very confused.

  • Why Did My Body Fail Me

    #SeptemberisNICUawarenessmonth

To the new mom sitting in the NICU holding back her tears:

You did everything you could to have a healthy pregnancy but yet here you are…sitting across an isolette watching your baby breathe while all the monitors are going on and off behind you. You’re wondering what you did wrong and why your body failed you. You’re blaming yourself while trying to memorize and learn all the new medical terms that keep getting thrown at you.

Now you’re struggling to keep a good breastmilk supply because you’re body wasn’t ready to give birth yet-because you can’t breastfeed your baby yet-because you can’t do skin to skin as often-because the stress is affecting you so you gotta pump A LOT and chug down water around the clock. And trust me, you’re not gonna want to give up because this is the only thing you can provide for your baby that will help her thrive. Also, even though you don’t have your baby with you at night, you’re still not gonna be able to sleep. You will wake up wondering how she’s doing and you will call the NICU. Or if you’re anything like me, you will drive yourself to the hospital in the middle of the night.

You’re going to watch your baby fight for survival and you’re going to wish you could take all the pain away from her. You will also watch her reach milestones and they will fill you with pride and FAITH. You’re going to cry. You’re going to laugh. You’re going to get frustrated. You will also feel your heart sink every time you get a call from the NICU and you’re gonna deal with people telling you things like “you’re lucky you didn’t go through the third trimester,” and it’s gonna infuriate you. But don’t get mad at them, they don’t know the struggle of your heart. But I do, I know what it’s like to push through the physical and emotional pain. I know what it’s like to watch a little piece of your heart sleep inside a clear plastic box. But I can tell you one thing; you’re doing amazing. You’re a fighter just like your baby and you will persevere. I promise you that one day you will look back and realize how LUCKY you are for being the chosen one. God chose you to witness a miracle and He only did it because He knows how strong you are. Hang in there mamma, when you look into your baby’s eyes while heading home for the first time you’ll realize it was all worth it

  • Am I Alone For Not Loving My Child?

This is VERY personal, so please don’t judge me for this or leave negative comments. My 2nd son was born with down syndrome, 3 tiny holes in his heart and IA.

We were expecting a healthy, normal baby. I was heartbroken. The second I saw him, I just *knew* something was wrong. But I couldn’t place it. I thought it was impossible for me to have a child with down syndrome, as I thought it was genetic. No ultrasounds detected anything wrong. 😞 T

he cord was wrapped around his neck twice at birth so he had to be put on 24/7 oxygen and a pulse oximeter. We stayed in the NICU with him for a month before he was released to go home. Once we were home, I was still so devastated. I had 2 under the age of 2. I was also by myself for 12+ hours a day with a fragile newborn (who was eating every 4 hours and connected to tons of wires) and a just turned 1 year old.

I had a mental breakdown. I couldn’t handle it. I felt no love for my 2nd son. I didn’t feel hate, but betrayal (by God) and hurt.

I couldn’t find it in myself to love this little baby boy, no matter how much I tried. It made me feel like a horrible mother. 😭 Why couldn’t I love this precious gift from God!? Who had already smiled at me when he was only 2 weeks! I hated myself.

My 2nd son ended up being taken out of my care. He now lives with a relative of his. He is a little over a year old. I see him when I’m able, I’ve seen him 4 times since he was taken out of my care. He lives about 4/5 hours away. I wish I could say my feelings about him have changed. I wish I could say I want to have him with me and his brother (my 1st son). I’ve struggled with mental illness since I was a child. I am on medication and seeing a psychiatrist/psychologist. Has anyone else struggled with anything remotely like this? I just want to know that I’m not alone. I never once felt this was with my first son. My love for him was instant. He looked just like me when I was a baby. I still love him more than anything in the world. Please don’t think I’m a terrible person. 😭🥺

  • Owlet Socks A Total Life Saver

Those of you who have heard of the Owlet Sock and wonder if it works and is worth the money, here is our story:

Ever since I first heard about the Owlet Sock a few years ago, I knew I wanted one when I had a child. Decklan was born full term (40 weeks + 5 days) without any issues, in Oklahoma.

We started using the Owlet as soon as he was discharged home from the hospital and we didn’t experience any red alarms

Sunday we drove to Denver, CO and our first night we experienced 3 red alarms (meaning his oxygen level dropped below 80%). The following day his oxygen was in the mid 80’s and low 90’s (newborns should be 95-100%). This made me uncomfortable, so I called the pediatrician and they sent us to urgent care and from there we were admitted to the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Denver.

He was discharged home on oxygen and will be on it 24/7 for the next 5 weeks, until he’s 2 months old, minimum. He will also be seeing a cardiologist on Tuesday as a precaution.

Thanks to the Owlet we were alerted to an oxygenation issue, we might not have otherwise realized he had. So if you wonder if the Owlet works or is worth the money, we can definitely tell you that it does and it is.

  • Women This Is A Uterus

    ANATOMY

Women, this is a uterus. The image also shows the ovaries. All women are born with this wonderful organ, and many of you have never really seen it. Its normal size is about 7 centimeters long and 5 centimeters wide.

This organ expands more than 100 times to house a fetus. Each month, it self-destructs and re-builds, through that, it eliminates menstruation due to contractions, so menstrual pain is pain of the uterus, not ovaries. It can support up to 150 times its own weight.

It is the only organ capable of creating another organ: Placenta. It is connected to you. If you get stressed, it gets stressed, if you relax, it relaxes. In that same organ, life is shared, because there are women who with that organ, gave life to up to 15 children, at present, they only give life to 2 or 3 children, for convenience, but it is qualified to train more than 20 lives .

It is the second heart of a mother, because there she forms the hearts of her children. 💕💕

  • No One Told Me I Would Spend Hours Crying

This was 2 days after I gave birth to Layla. Eating my “nice meal” provided by the hospital. An over cooked steak and sides. I was in new territory.

    .

Learning to breastfeed this little human being that I just brought into the world. Wearing these big mesh panties, still sporting a pregnant belly.. no one told me your belly doesn’t go down immediately. No one told me I’d be bleeding out.

    .

No one told me that I would spend hours crying and full of emotion. I remember just laying there in the hospital bed crying. I was crying because my babygirl was finally here.. FINALLY! But wait.. that means she isn’t protected inside of me anymore. And that’s a scary feeling.

    .

At what point, I think Kevin was at a loss. I realized that when I was being held by him in the hospitals shower and I was just crying uncontrollably. It’s all a blur but I do remember saying “she’s not safe inside of me anymore” and that was a really hard thing to work through.

    .

I was also in so much pain.. no one tells you that typically with a “quick delivery” comes a bad rip. I ripped all the way up and down, and also side to side. The weeks following I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t use the bathroom. I wore these big depends diapers. I never thought I would be normal again. Kevin had to help me do EVERYTHING from pee, to walk up stairs.

    .

Being a mom is the ultimate sacrifice. You give up your body for 9 months to grow this little baby. You go through labor and delivery. You go through the emotions that come with childbirth.

    .

You let go of all shame as you walk around your house in diapers and ask your SO to spray warm water on your rip while you pee to avoid that burn.

    .

You spend tireless hours latching your baby and feeding your baby to establish and keep up your milk supply because you want to breast feed so. damn. bad. You remain patient through leaps, growth spurts, and cluster feeding.

    .

Don’t ever discredit a mother. You don’t know the half.

    .

I used to be Autumn. Fun loving, crazy, outgoing Autumn. But now I’m Layla’s mama. And I’m okay with that. ✨ (Via Autumn Benjamin and @scarymommy)

  • Woman Stealing Baby Photos For Money

Brianna Manness is at it again.

For those of you who are new here and don’t know, Brianna stole photos of my daughter in the NICU claiming that she was her child and had passed away.

She posted it publicly to Facebook with a NICU photo of my daughter that I had posted with her GoFundMe link. Brianna, even after being caught and reported, took it as far as creating a gofundme for funeral costs and raised about $2,500 before it was shut down.

Not only has she faked my child’s death, she did the same to a friend of mine and her baby back home.

Today, she is now posing as a woman named Samantha Nellen, claiming she is 20 weeks pregnant, but when asked a second time she is suddenly 32 weeks pregnant. She is asking for photos of pregnant women’s bellies, cropping their faces out, and sending them to other women as if they are photos of her.

She has asked for photos of other women’s children as well as asking their sexuality and for full body photos of them. This woman is still so very sick in the head and has proven that she cannot be stopped when it comes to taking from and harassing other women and mothers.

If you can find the profile Samantha Nellen as well as Brianna Manness or Brianna Dawn Manness, please REPORT both and have them shut down. She better pray that her and I never come face to face, because not only did she fake my child’s death TWICE, she’s doing so with other children and it is HORRIFYING.

Mama’s please warn other parents and pregnant women!

This is an old screenshot used as an example of her behavior, that she is currently still acting on to this day.
