Don’t Let Anyone Kiss Your Baby On The Lips
Oliver Jaz Miller was born 3rd of August 2018. when he was 11 days old, he slowly stopped drinking milk throughout the night and started up with a temperature.
When he was 12 days old me and my partner rushed him to hospital Oliver was put onto a heated bed with oxygen. He had a feeding tube put in, along with a long line and a number of cannulas
After 8 days of watching Oliver fight for his life in High Dependency Unit (HDU) the doctor finally came in and said Oliver had caught neonatal herpes. As you could imagine me and my partner was shocked, we couldn’t comprehend What he just said
The doctor began to explain the herpes simplex virus can be passed onto a newborn baby if; a person has a cold sore and kisses the baby or touches the baby after touching the Cold sore.
Cold sores are at their most contagious when they burst (rupture). They remain contagious until completely healed.
Oliver spent 21 long days in the hospital and we finally get to go home with 6 months of antibiotics and visits to the hospital
Please respect newborn baby and stay away if you have a cold sore.
We’re the lucky ones! A few hours later this could be reading so differently.
KEEP YOUR NEWBORNS SAFE, don’t let anyone kiss your baby on the lips, ensure everyone washes hands before they touch your baby and keep anyone with a cold sore away

Smoking When Pregnant The Reality
Smoking so many are too frightened to touch upon this subject in fear of annoying other people. Fear of having people having a go at you.
Reality is smoking in pregnancy an after increases risk of SIDS. Scientific evidence shows that around 30% of sudden infant deaths could be avoided if mothers didn’t smoke when they were pregnant. Taken together with the risks of smoking around a baby at home, this means that smoking could be linked to 60% of sudden infant deaths.
I personally have come across parents that did EVERYTHING safe but they smoked add that to a formula fed baby that was premature an there you have your triple risk theory. I am not here to judge. Education again is the key.
There is so much help now out there for both parents. There is now nicotine replacement therapies. I had one mum say which I found slightly ironic. How she didn’t want use nicotine patches or replacement therapies are she didn’t know what was in them. Yet was OK with smoking an putting 4000 chemicals into babies body. Cigarettes can restrict the essential oxygen supply to your baby. As a result, their heart has to beat harder every time you smoke.
You can use NRT during pregnancy if it will help you stop smoking, and you’re unable to stop without it. It’s not recommended that you take stop smoking tablets such as Champix or Zyban during pregnancy.
NRT contains only nicotine and none of the damaging chemicals found in cigarettes, so it is a much better option than continuing to smoke. It helps you by giving you the nicotine you would have had from a cigarette.
You can be prescribed NRT during pregnancy by your GP or an NHS stop smoking adviser. You can also buy it over the counter without a prescription from a pharmacy.
NRT is available as:
patches
gum
inhalator
nasal spray
mouth spray
oral strips
lozenges
microtabs
If you have pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting, patches may be a better solution.
NRT patches should be used for no more than 16 hours in any 24-hour period. The best way to stick to this is to remove the patch at bedtime.
Before using any of these products, speak to your midwife, GP, a pharmacist or a specialist stop smoking adviser.
By getting this specialist advice you can be sure that you are doing the best for your baby and best for you. For more information, call the NHS Smokefree advice line on 0300 123 1044. Remember, you are twice as likely to be successful at quitting if you get some support from a trained adviser.

I Was A Terrible Mum Today
“I was a terrible mom today”
Most days I come home, you’re running to the door so excited to see your momma, all you want is my attention. I respond “move, I’m ready to get out of my uniform and I just wanna sit down” usually it’s the same ole thing.
Ran all day at work, got treated like crap by patients who don’t appreciate us, then got off late. I’m tired. I’m aggravated. My patience went out the window 12 hours ago. The last thing I want is for this tiny human to be crawling all over me as soon as I walk through the door. After that it’s “Did you do your homework? Did you get in trouble at school? Why isn’t your room clean? Turn the damn tv down!”
Then it’s time for bed…
And when the house is quiet and your sleeping that’s when it hits. “I was a terrible mom today”
The guilt of not showing you the attention that you crave sets in. Another day passes that I let my work, financial stresses, school, etc get the best of me. Of course I don’t mean to take things out on you. I know you’re just being a kid. I’m sorry that I fail you on a daily basis. You deserve the world.
So tonight, I let you lay next to me until you fell asleep. You always want to sleep next to me and I’m always telling you no because “you’re getting too big” but deep down inside I know the days of you saying “momma, can I sleep with you?” are numbered. Soon, you’ll stop greeting me at the door. Soon, you’ll stop asking for hugs. Soon, you’ll stop wanting me to sit in your room with you and watch tv. Soon, you’ll be gone all weekend with your friends and there won’t be a loud tv on…. It’ll just be silence.
Even though you’re almost bigger than me, I carry you to bed tonight. Hoping I can be a better mom tomorrow.

Dementia Should Be Called Failure Of The Brain
A Neurologist said that dementia / Alzheimer’s should be called “failure of the brain,” because the other names are nebulous and do not show the severity of the disease to most people.
As the patient’s brain slowly dies, you know they’ve changed physically, and the caregivers are often in shock!! Patients will end up bedridden, unable to move, and unable to eat or drink. But it is the different phases beforehand that are just as painful.
The day they suddenly forget how to dress themselves, and become confused or combative when you try to fix the shirt, or trousers, they’ve put on backwards. When they repeatedly ask where their life-long mate is while looking straight at her. When they are confused, angry, or frightened, because they are still partially aware of who they were, yet are no longer…
Most people don’t know what it is to fight or to have a loved one who leads a battle against dementia / Alzheimer’s.
If you or anyone you know has dementia/ Alzheimer’s please visit https://www.dementiauk.org/ for advice and support.

Little Daniel Was Failed By Authority And It Cost Him His Life
Daniel Valerio from Victoria, Australia, was failed by official inaction. His death shook the nation and led to the introduction of mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse in Victoria, Australia.
2-year-old Daniel was living with his 4-year-old brother, Ben, his mother, Cheryl, and his mother’s new boyfriend, Paul Leslie Aiton. Cheryl and the boy’s father, Michael, had split up months beforehand and had cut all ties with her and the children. For a prolonged period, Daniel was being subjected to unimaginable abuse at the hands of Paul. He often bragged to his workmates that he often punched the toddler in the back of the head and kicked him and threw him against walls. Paul liked to shove Daniel’s face in faeces and beat his genitalia with a wooden spoon for urinating. Where was his mother when all of this abuse was unfolding one might question. Why wasn’t she there to protect her son? She dismissed his wounds and contusions as the marks of a clumsy child.

This Is The Monster Shortly before Daniel’s death, police found extensive bruising on the toddler. Daniel’s brother, Ben, even told police that he and his brother were being abused and beaten and even showed them a tree branch which had been used as a weapon. In fact, over 21 professionals were alerted to the abuse over the preceding months yet failed to intervene. Several neighbours and Ben’s teachers noticed disturbing changes in the children. They were often spotted with large bruising on their faces and bodies and became defensive and unhappy. It was clear to anybody with an ounce of sense that these boys were being abused at home.
Several GP’s made a note of their injuries and in July of 1990, Daniel was taken to hospital after one GP became concerned about the bruising in his head. They noted that he was extremely happy to be given attention and cuddles by any members of staff. “The child’s behaviour in hospital was the sort of behaviour one sees in a neglected child,” he noted. Nevertheless, he was sent home where child services soon received an anonymous phone call which detailed how Daniel was thin, pale, covered in bruises and had suffered two broken collar bones. There was no follow-up and Daniel remained in the abusive home.
Another concerned call came from an electrician who saw Daniel laying motionless in bed. His face, arms and legs were covered with bruises. One eye was closed and the other was partially open due to the swelling. His cheek bones and jaw was swollen. He went home and called the police. When police arrived, Ben told them that they were being abused and directed them to the tree branch which was used as a weapon. The next day, Daniel was examined and the doctor found that he couldn’t be sure if the wounds were non-accidental and sent Daniel home.
On the 8th of September, 1990, Daniel was punched in the stomach one last time as he lay in his bed. Paul, who was 30-years-old and 105kg, told police that Daniel, who was 30-months-old and 10kg, was crying. He said he lay the toddler on the bed and punched him in the stomach over and over again. He died then and there. As he lay in the mortuary, his body was literally covered head to toe with bruises. The pathologist said it looked like he had been involved in a fatal car crash.
For reasons completely unknown, the day after murdering her son, Cheryl agreed to marry Paul despite the fact that he confessed to the murder. Paul was found guilty and sentenced to 22 years but was released in 2011. Cheryl ultimately divorced Paul and he went on to re-marry and start a new life – something he denied Daniel when he beat him to death.

Shout Out To The Mamas Nursing Through The Tears
Shout out to all the mamas nursing through the tears on the shower floor, in the backseat of the car, under the piles of laundry, on the couch at 3am, in the cereal aisle of the grocery store. Many mamas go through this you are not alone.
You are making magic (even if you don’t feel magical.) You are strong and powerful (even if you feel like crumbling to the floor and sleeping for a week.) You are seen and loved and supported (even in those dark, lonely moments when it feels like you alone are responsible for the tiny, fragile life at your breast and the weight of that thought is crushing.) You’ve got this babe, and we’ve got you!
Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria. Breastfeeding lowers your baby’s risk of having asthma or allergies. Plus, babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, without any formula, have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhea.
(share to a bad-ass breastfeeding mama who may need a reminder of her strength.)

You Don’t Have To Be Loud and Angry To Make A Difference
I made the mistake of thinking I had to be louder and angrier to make a difference.
I would scream and nag people, I thought I had to join in the bitching of others to be accepted by them, I had to be the most out spoken and rude to fit in.
I was wrong.
I have never achieved anything worthwhile by raging, shouting at someone, putting all my energy into bad feelings, or forgetting to be compassionate, I have never made a friend who would say bad about me behind my back unlike before with all my false bitchy friends.
I give people the benefit of the doubt, I trust that their intentions are good. Where I can I make friends, build relationships and forge connections. I never forget kindness offered to me and am willing to repay any given to me at a moments notice.
I also make mistakes, make amends, practise again, get it wrong, try again, maybe get it right or do it all again. I learn so much from better people again and again and again.
Slow, steady, kind, controlled is how I do it, I hope I never forget.
You know what since I let my anger go, I sleep better, I feel better, I AM BETTER!
