  • You Might Be An Autism Parent If…

    1. You might be an autism parent if you have to change the movie your child is watching 10 times in 5 mins because he wants to watch something else.

    2. You might be an autism parent if you watch the same film over and over again and don’t complain.

    3. You might be an autism parent if you get both hit and hugged within 5 seconds of each other.

    4. You might be an autism parent if you can’t wait for your child to go to school after a hectic weekend but miss ‘em minutes after school starts.

    5. You might be an autism parent if you would trade everything you have to spend just half an hour in your child’s mind to know how and what they’re thinking.

    6. You might be an autism parent if you find yourself using your child’s therapeutic coping strategies for yourself.

    7. You might be an autism parent if your blood boils every time you see a status update about an autistic child being bullied.

    8. You might be an autism parent if the definition of a clean house is now one that doesn’t have an overflowing bin, dishes in the sink are rinsed, and laundry is at least in a pile or in the basket.

    9. You might be an autism parent if your friends fade as your life is consumed with many therapists, teachers, doctors, case managers, intervention specialists and these people have no clue you almost feel like they are your new best friends because you spend so much time around them and the subject of conversation is your children.

    10. You might be an autism parent if a ‘good day’ means no one’s in the hospital, no one from the school called, no one from the police department is standing on your lawn and everyone’s sitting in one room without a problem.

    11. You might be an autism parent if someone walks into your house and asks if you live in a dangerous neighbourhood and you say no… the window locks, gate locks and three types of door locks are to keep my kid in… not bad guys out.

    12. You might be an autism parent if your blood boils and it

touches a nerve whenever you hear a child with autism being

    called the ‘R’ word.

  • I’m Not The Perfect Mom, I’m THAT Mom

    ‘I’m that Mom.

The Mom who gets up before the sun rises, to get ready for work. Who packs lunches and gets backpacks and clothes laid out. Who sneaks in and kisses her babies before she leaves for the day.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who sometimes has a short fuse. Who sometimes yells over insignificant things. Who wishes she didn’t loose her temper as much.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who stops at McDonald’s for her kids. Who has good intentions of making a home cooked meal, but gets frustrated when nobody will even try it.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who spends all night cleaning up, and feels guilty for not sitting with her kids. I’m also the mom who plays with her kids, and then feels guilty for having a messy house.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who one day, sets an hour limit on their tablet time. I’m also the Mom who let’s them play on it for 3 hours the next day, just so I can get things accomplished.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who sits down and goes over homework with her kids. I’m also the mom who gets in trouble for not correctly helping with homework because I was cooking dinner and feeding the baby at the same time.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who feels like a rockstar on Monday. I’m also the Mom who feels like I’m ready to throw in the towel by Friday.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who has let her baby cry it out. I’m also the Mom who let’s her babies crawl into her bed in the middle of the night, snuggling up with them.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who formula fed. Who used disposable diapers, who didn’t make homemade baby food.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who tries her hardest every single day. Who knows that she’s not perfect, but her kids think she’s pretty damn close.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who is everybodys everything. The keeper of the calender, the chauffeur of the littles, the wiper of the messes, and the referre of the house.

    I’m that Mom.

The Mom who is exhausted at the end of everyday. Who wonders every night if I’ve done a good enough job. Who hopes and prays that my babies will grow up knowing that they are loved and protected. Who peeks in on them when they’re sleeping, even when they spent the last 3 hours driving me crazy.

    I’m that Mom.

I’m not the Perfect Mom, but that’s okay. Because I’m That Mom – and that’s a pretty damn good one to be’

  • Bottle Fed babies are 100% More Likely To…

Since I have now been a parent for 11 years now I think I am highly qualified to dish out some unsolicited advice across the internet, you can thank me later. A few cheeky things I have learnt since I became a mum especially a mum to 3:

If you bottle-feed your precious baby then they are statistically 100% more likely rob a grandmother when they get older.

If you breastfeed your baby then your child will still be breastfeeding on their wedding day. Oh and also could you put them away please, you are totally turning us all on.

If you use a dummy your child will never speak and when they do it’ll only be to say ‘give me a dummy now’. When they’re 18.

If you don’t use a dummy your baby is in grave danger. Just generally. Particularly of falling coconuts.

If you leave your baby to cry, even just for a second (especially to read this blog) then your baby will be irreparably damaged and more than likely hate you forever.

If you never let your baby cry then you are totally spoiling them and they will more than likely appear on MTV’s My Super Sweet Sixteenth demanding a unicorn.

If your child watches more than 10 minutes of television before the age of 3 they will morph into a Mr Tumble/Peppa Pig/Piers Morgan hybrid and never stop singing jingles.

If your child has no screen time before the age of 3 then they have 47% less chance of becoming the next internet sensation and then who do you think will pay will your mortgage?

If you child has not eaten an avocado by the age of 2 then they will be unable to answer complex equations when being inexplicably quizzed by a stranger at a bus stop.

If you only feed your children healthy foods then they will have zero self-restraint and will always be the one getting shit faced on party food E numbers and tequila slammers at every single 3rd birthday party.

So there we go, a couple of things since I have learnt since becoming a mum, you are so very welcome.

On a serious note (if you’ve got this far) the only real thing I’ve learnt as a mum is you can find any article/statistic/Facebook post/interfering neighbour to back up what you want to do for your baby and 100 more to tell you you’re wrong. As long as you’re loving your baby and listening to yourself you’re doing a great job. And if no one has told you that today – you ARE doing a great job.

*also all information in this blog is factually incorrect. I bottle fed and my kid only robbed a grandmother once and I’m pretty sure it was a misunderstanding*

  • One Reason Why You Can’t Sleep At Night

After a stressful or busy day, there is nothing better than lounging on the sofa and bingeing your favourite TV show. However, if you want a good night’s sleep, you might want to rethink your favorite habit.

A study in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that binge-watching is linked to poor sleep quality, fatigue and increased insomnia. Researchers say when you binge-watch your favourite TV show, you become emotionally invested in the show. You want to know what happens next, how the characters develop, how everything plays out. These feelings make you more alert and can make it harder for you to calm down and fall asleep at night.

    1. Invest in a good mattress
Mattresses vary drastically and to get the right one for you, you need to find products designed for your sleep position, personal preference, body weight and sleeping arrangements (if you sleep with a spouse and/or animals). Not only should you invest in a proper mattress, you also need a strong foundation and one designed for your specific mattress. Do extensive research before purchasing a mattress to ensure it has everything you need to get a proper night’s sleep.

    2. Keep your room cool
The recommended temperature for your bedroom is between 60 to 67 degrees. This helps you sleep cool and prevents excess sweat and heat from disrupting your sleep cycles.

    3. Avoid naps or excess sleep at night
While naps can be great to increase your energy, it can also make sleeping at night extremely hard. If you choose to nap, make it short and take one early in the afternoon. Additionally, avoid sleeping in several hours past your normal wake-up time. When you wake up late in the day, your body’s natural sleep schedule is thrown off, making it difficult to get more sleep.

    4. Diary
Many individuals complain that they can’t sleep due to a racing mind. They lay down and can’t shut off their mind or they wake up, stressed and anxious about various items taking place in their lives. One way to minimize this anxiety and stress is to journal every night before going to bed. Basically, do a major brain dump every night and write about your day, your anxieties, worries, upcoming activities, to-do lists, etc. Get everything down on paper so you have less information swarming around through your mind during the night.

While watching your favourite TV show isn’t a bad thing, be mindful of how this one simple action can be wreaking havoc on your health.
