  • Smoking When Pregnant The Reality

Smoking so many are too frightened to touch upon this subject in fear of annoying other people. Fear of having people having a go at you.

Reality is smoking in pregnancy an after increases risk of SIDS. Scientific evidence shows that around 30% of sudden infant deaths could be avoided if mothers didn’t smoke when they were pregnant. Taken together with the risks of smoking around a baby at home, this means that smoking could be linked to 60% of sudden infant deaths.

I personally have come across parents that did EVERYTHING safe but they smoked add that to a formula fed baby that was premature an there you have your triple risk theory. I am not here to judge. Education again is the key.

There is so much help now out there for both parents. There is now nicotine replacement therapies. I had one mum say which I found slightly ironic. How she didn’t want use nicotine patches or replacement therapies are she didn’t know what was in them. Yet was OK with smoking an putting 4000 chemicals into babies body. Cigarettes can restrict the essential oxygen supply to your baby. As a result, their heart has to beat harder every time you smoke.

You can use NRT during pregnancy if it will help you stop smoking, and you’re unable to stop without it. It’s not recommended that you take stop smoking tablets such as Champix or Zyban during pregnancy.

NRT contains only nicotine and none of the damaging chemicals found in cigarettes, so it is a much better option than continuing to smoke. It helps you by giving you the nicotine you would have had from a cigarette.

You can be prescribed NRT during pregnancy by your GP or an NHS stop smoking adviser. You can also buy it over the counter without a prescription from a pharmacy.

    NRT is available as:

    patches

    gum

    inhalator

    nasal spray

    mouth spray

    oral strips

    lozenges

    microtabs

If you have pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting, patches may be a better solution.

NRT patches should be used for no more than 16 hours in any 24-hour period. The best way to stick to this is to remove the patch at bedtime.

Before using any of these products, speak to your midwife, GP, a pharmacist or a specialist stop smoking adviser.

By getting this specialist advice you can be sure that you are doing the best for your baby and best for you. For more information, call the NHS Smokefree advice line on 0300 123 1044. Remember, you are twice as likely to be successful at quitting if you get some support from a trained adviser.

  • My Vape Exploded In My Face And Damaged My Room

I Vape (I know, terrible and uncool) but I no longer do and I hope to possible sway those that do to maybe reevaluate or find other methods of smoking or giving up.

I had been Vaping for around a year and assure you I did not do anything I wasn’t supposed to (battery was in right, always had the shop put it together when I first bought it and add things and maintenance it the right way while taking their advice) but it exploded in my face.

I lost at least 7 teeth, 2nd degree burns to face and neck and had to pull large and small chunks of plastic, teeth and foreign objects from mouth, throat and lips. I was lucky and they’re was a huge amount of damage to the room in my house I was in as well.

I never had any issues with over heating or concerns until the unfortunate happened. I know vapes help people quit smoking cigarettes and that’s amazing. I just want to bring to light this is possible that they can explode without warning. I would have said “no way that’s possible” until now.

This is not fake, this really happened, I have recovered now and had false teeth put in to replace the ones I lost and barring a few small scars on my face I have healed well, I have not touched a Vape since this happened and I truly hope this never happens to anyone else. Credit Andrew Hall

  • I Lost Five Stone By Giving Up Smoking

I lost five stone by giving up smoking
Back in march 2017 I was 16 stone and smoked 30+ cigarettes a day.
I was a mother of two, Amy Louise 3 and Samuel James 14 months old, I had a wake up call one day whilst at the park, Amy was chasing after a duck and was getting closer to the pond, I had to run to catch up with her and caught her just before she landed in the pond.
I was out of breath and had a pain in my chest and a stitch in my side, but i had a bigger pain in my heart realising that my life style was risking my children’s lives, I decided then if I wanted to be a great mum for my children I had to lose weight and give up smoking.
I decided I didn’t want to use patches or gum and I wasn’t prepared to go to a weight loss group I was going to do this with will power alone.
I thought up a plan, I started cooking healthier meals and every time I wanted a cigarette I did a plank or leg rises, jogging on the spot, run up the stairs, wall sits any exercise i could think of.
I punished myself for wanting a cigarette with exercise and you know what It worked.
I didn’t want a cigarette any more and I loved that I could run after my little two with ease.
I have never felt healthier in all my life , I’ve always been a big girl but now I am a healthy size 10, and weight 10 1/2 stone I have no plans on losing any more weight but want to maintain my figure.
If I can do it anyone can, not only do I have more energy and look and smell better I have saved a small fortune plus I’m a more fun mum now
  • Smoking indoors should be classed as abuse?

Smoking whilst pregnant is a hugely controversial issue, while most agree it is harmful for their unborn baby, others either don’t have the will power to give up, or have false belief that it would do more harm to baby if they gave up, and yes there are those who simply don’t care.

But what about smoking once the child is born?

Laws were passed to stop smokers in pubs, restaurants, cars and even public areas like the zoo have designated smoking zones.

So, what about people’s own homes?

There are still a huge amount of smokers whom will openly smoke around their children, those who will smoke in their kitchens or front room.

One woman said “your house is like your children’s womb, your meant to protect them, not allow them to breathe in harmful chemicals

Another said: I’ve been a smoker for years I live in a flat and have no choice but to smoke out of a window

Many would like to see smoking indoors classed as abuse!!!

Equally many would like to see more controls put on vaping in public until more intensive research has been done on the long term effects and damages from the new trend.

One man said: who is going to police this? No one can stop people From doing anything in their own home

    What’s your thoughts on this?
