  • Would You Know What Do If Your Baby Was Choking

Yesterday we experienced every parents worst nightmare!!!!

While it’s still raw, I need to share my story to everyone with babies/children just so people know how quickly a child can choke & stop breathing etc in a matter of seconds/minutes.

Theo nearly died yesterday 😭 because he choked on some food (uk guideline correctly sized finger foods of egg mayo sandwich soldiers & soft melon sticks)

He has eaten this so many times before. Melon & anything on bread are some of his favourite foods.

The reason I am telling you is because most of you know how Theo is such an incredible eater & I always had the attitude “It will never happen to me because I’m so careful” I Always sit with him when he eats, I always chopped his foods into “non choking small sizes”.

I am always so careful, Yet it still happened & We nearly lost our baby.

I was sat next to him while he was eating in his high chair when i accidentally kicked my coffee over. (I think at that moment I must have startled him while he had food in his mouth 😭)

You know what it’s like when a drink spills, you naturally jump out your seat & leg it to the kitchen for some kitchen roll or tea towels etc. It took me seconds to run to the kitchen & back.

I chucked down 5 squares of kitchen roll & that’s all it took time wise. I took my eyes off him for Seconds!!!!!

I heard a muffled sound, I looked over at Theo to find him slumped to the side of his high chair, blue lips & eyes rolled to the back of his head, having a seizure.

Some people don’t know the difference between gagging & choking and think they need to listen for a cough to know their baby is chocking.

THERE WAS NO COUGH TO WARN ME!!!!

Because there was absolutely no air going in or out!!!!

He stopped breathing & his whole body went so blue & lifeless he looked dead 😭 An image that just keeps flashing back over & over in my head, that feeling of complete terror as my heart was ripping into a million pieces as I thought I was going to have to say goodbye to the most precious little soul in my life 💔 a moment I’m not sure I will ever get over.

If it wasn’t for the fact me & Jamie knew first aid & knew to keep going with back blows & chest thrusts until he could breathe . And most importantly called for an ambulance immediately at the start, while I was doing the back blows etc, Jamie was on the phone. I think one more minute & he would have died 😭

The moment I felt his little body give up, followed by blood coming out his mouth was the moment we both completely lost our shit with panic. I think the whole road could hear our desperate screams. Reality kicked in that we could lose him, because nothing was working.

But amazingly we managed to get him back after jamie blew a hard, quick breath into his mouth, that must have dislodged whatever it was.

HE TOOK HIS FIRST BREATH 🙌🏽 after what felt like forever trying to stop him choking. After a few more breaths, He came round all disoriented at first & just wanted to cuddle. Phew….

But Panic wasn’t over 😫 5 minutes later he had another seizure I’m guessing from lack of oxygen. (Both thinking here we go again, screaming at the operator on the phone, begging her to help us)

I had to Put him into the recovery position on the floor & had to sit next to him helplessly while he went in & out on consciousness until the ambulance arrived with some oxygen.

We were taken to hospital & after lots of checks he was so incredibly brave & strong he was sent home later that same night.

The photo is of him totally exhausted having a lovely snooze in daddy’s arms, having his final check before we went home.💙

This isn’t an attention message in any way, because he is absolutely fine now!

it’s purely to make people aware of how easily something like this can happen.

And please please please do not have that same attitude I did that “it won’t happend to me because I’m so careful”

It doesn’t matter how careful you are, accidents still happen & this happened in a matter of seconds!!!!

If your baby was to choke & stop breathing would you honestly hand on heart know what to do???

    Because if you don’t….

please take 10mins of your time to read the NHS advice for choking page.

And the short YouTube clips of what to do when a baby/child chokes including CPR

I can honestly say through all the panic & upset that our slight memory of first aid helped us save our baby’s life.

Our story could have been so different but

We feel so incredibly lucky that he is still alive! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

There must have been a guardian angel watching over us yesterday 💕😇

Please feel free to share this story to all your baby mumma friends, I’ll make it public so people can

***EDIT*** also ask your friends and family that look after your little ones the exact same question above…. what would you do?

If they can’t answer, get them to watch the videos too 😊

  • Hands Up If You’ve Heard Of Anoxic Seizures

    Reflex anoxic seizures

Hands up if you’ve heard of it before?

No nor had I until my boys. These seizures are explained as child hood seizures, triggered by pain, high emotions and general upset. These are often confused with breath holding syndrome. Breathe holding the child will turn red and sometimes faint due to holding their breath.

With reflex anoxic seizures, the child turns white….deathly white, their lips go blue, eyes will darken. They fall no matter where they are and will pass out. The passing out is triggered by their heart stopping. With these seizures the body will shock the heart into restarting within 49 seconds, but the child (rarely adult!) can be in a state of unconsciousness a little longer and will require sleep to help recover.

My first boy started having these at just 6 months old, continued until the age of 3….after 3 they became few and far between. These can be diagnosed at a hospital and they will follow with an ecg. Please see the link for more detail..

Below is a video of a child having a reflex anoxic seizure, viewers beware it is distressing to watch

If your child has a blue breath-holding spell or reflex anoxic seizure, you should:

    1. stay calm – it should pass in less than a minute.
    2. lie them on their side – don’t pick them up.
    3. keep an eye on them until the spell ends.

  • Please Don’t Be Afraid To Walk Away From People Who Cannot Change

So today I was given the worst possible news imaginable something I thought would never have to deal with. My beautiful sister Lucy was brain-dead. Some of you all ready know how we got to this point and for those that don’t I’m going to tell you as I feel that I need to tell the world Lucy’s story.

I decided many years ago to cut contact with my mum who had been an addict for over 20 years as she did nothing to contribute positively to my life. Unfortunately Lucy wasn’t able to break her bond and last year my mum introduced her to cocaine and didn’t care that she was ruining her life as long as she got her fix. Whilst spending time at my mum’s she met another addict Ian who Lucy started a relationship with. Ian was sent to prison and I was then able to help Lucy get away by letting her live with me. We sorted out student accommodation for her and in September she returned to Uni for her final year drug free.

As there is no justice in the world Ian was released from prison before Lucy was able to finish Uni. She knew how I felt about him so we didn’t discuss him as it would cause arguments.

What I didn’t know was that Lucy was letting Ian live at her student accommodation and the Uni had found out so she dropped out and went to stay at my mum’s again.

On Thursday morning I received a call to say Lucy had been rushed to hospital after having a seizure this seizure lead to a cardiac arrest and her brain was starved of oxygen for up to 40mins before help arrived. She’s put up a good fight over the last few days but it wasn’t enough.

The results came back to say high levels of cocaine and a prescription drugs were found in her body these prescribed drugs belonged to Ian so the dose was far to high for her little body to cope with.

To a lot of people’s disgust I have let Ian and my mum in to see her as I wanted them to see what they had done in my eyes they are to blame for this and now I have to plan a funeral for my little sister at the age of 24 who doesn’t deserve to be here they do. All she’s ever done is put too much faith in to the wrong people in the belief they will change for the better.

So the message I want to spread is don’t be afraid to walk away some people cannot change and will hold you back for as long as you let them. You only get one life and you need to surround yourself with people who help you to achieve your goals.

Look at her face that’s not my sister look at what drugs and mixing with the wrong people has done to her.

If we can save one life by sharing this story then I’ll be happy.

Please respect the fact that I don’t want anyone to contact me if you have questions I will answer them in due course. Right now I have a lot of hate for the world and want to be left alone.

We love you Lucy and I’ll live my life to the fullest now for us both. A true Angel

    Xxxxxx

  • My Husband And His Energy Drink Addiction

Brianna and Austin were so excited to meet their new baby boy.

But one morning, Austin’s mum phoned with life changing news.“Austin had an accident” she told the worrier mum to be.

After a long drive to the hospital, Brianna learned that Austin had had a brain hemorrhage.

But the reason behind the sudden horror was just as unexpected.

Austin had been drinking energy drinks ever since he’d started picking up over time and had to commute more regularly.

Brianna learned that Austin had had a brain hemorrhage. But the reason behind the sudden horror was just as unexpected.

It became a regular habit and soon, Austin was drinking them excessively. Doctors say they’re ultimately what caused Austin’s brain hemorrhage.

Brianna said Austin had to have a lot of brain surgery to save his life, everyone was terrified.

Following this were strokes, seizures, swelling, and more things we weren’t prepared for.

“Then the time had come for me to deliver our baby”.

“I’m not going to lie to anyone, it was so hard. I had planned on Austin being a part of this huge moment. Being by my side. Holding my hand. Being there to cut the cord. Being there to welcome our son into the world. It didn’t feel right”.

“But a beautiful miracle happened as I delivered our son. Austin woke up”.

Austin was still too weak to see his son and was in and out of consciousness.

Brianna said ” At a little over 2 months old, our son finally met his dad. A day I wasn’t sure I would ever see. That was the day that my heart gained some of its happiness back.

Some time after that he could finally come home to me. Our life isn’t normal. There are doctors visits and hospital trips — so many that I lose count”.

    “But we are here. Fighting”.
