  • What An Eye Opener

What an eye opener tonight has been, after working a 12 hour shift, I was driving home from work when someone drove In the side of me, they then drove off.

I followed the car into an off a street we’re the car had parked up, I got out my car to see it was an elderly man driving.

The man open his car door and reached out to me, he grabbed my arm tightly and told me he’s got Covid-19.

The man asked for my help, with beads of sweat rolling down his face, the man was drifting in and out of continuousness as he spoke to me.

I offered to ring the man an ambulance and he told me he will wait till the morning. I went to my car and luckily had a mask with me but no further PPE. I rang an ambulance for the man and he told me he hasn’t ate for 7-10 days as he has been in isolation and has no family or friends.

The man had attempted to drive to get some food and essentials, as he knew he would die without. The man said he didn’t trust other people as there’s a lot of horrible people in the world.

The ambulance arrived and I assured the ambulance crew until he was safe to he transported to A&E.

I followed him up in my own car and have stayed with him for 5 hours with wearing full PPE. The man was so grateful that I stayed with him and kept squeezing my hand and pulling it close to him.

The man asked me why I was being so kind, so I told him I would hate to be poorly and have no one by my side.

I have spent 5 hours after my shift by the mans side after my shift, despite having plans for a takeaway tonight. I have just left his side now as he is too poorly to have any visitors, but he has my contact details if he wants to tell me when he is better.

I’m not sure if he will get better 💔 but I hope so as he’s promised me a coffee.

My family have all had to isolate them selves tonight and leave the house, so I can go home. They may need to isolate them selves until I know if I have been infected by Covid-19.

But I know I have saved a mans life tonight, if i waited to ring an ambulance in the morning, he wouldn’t be alive tomorrow.

  • This Sock May Have Saved My Babies Life

For the people who know that we use an “Owlet Sock Monitor” on our daughter: read this story. For those who don’t know we use it: read this story. For those who have no clue what an Owlet is, but possibly know anyone who’s having a baby or thinking about someday having a baby: read this story.

To put this briefly, baby girl’s sock monitor may have saved her life last night.

The Owlet is a pulse-ox monitor that is worn as a sock when she’s sleeping. It will alert when it’s not placed right on her foot and cannot get a good reading. It will alert when there’s poor connection because of internet, or what have you. And it also does a SCARY alert when an oxygen or heart rate level drops too low.

We initially wanted this item just for a peace of mind— nothing was wrong with her health. It was expensive, so we hesitated (and I get the vibe that any new or expecting mommas that ask me about it feel this same way). I thought, “Is this thing really worth it?” UMMMMM HARD YES. It alarmed us with that scary noise at about 3am last night. My husband got to her first and basically ripped her out of that crib because we were both terrified. She had rolled over in her sleep and was on her belly, face down. But she is OK.

However, the further we looked into the graphs that the app shows of her breathing pattern through the night, it had gradually started dropping from about 215am on. And at the same time, she was in a deep sleep. So she had no clue she needed to turn her face. Was this a progression into SIDS? We don’t know. But what I do know is I’m thankful for that Owlet so I didn’t have to find out the answer to that! Owlet

  • Premature Babies Were Put In Entertainment Sideshow

Thousands of premature infants were saved from certain death by being part of a Coney Island entertainment sideshow.

At the time premature babies were considered genetically inferior, and were simply left to fend for themselves and ultimately die.

Dr Martin Couney offered desperate parents a pioneering solution that was as expensive as it was experimental – and came up with a very unusual way of covering the costs.

It was Coney Island in the early 1900’s. Beyond the Four-Legged Woman, the sword swallowers, and “Lionel the Lion-Faced Man,” was an entirely different exhibit: rows of tiny, premature human babies living in glass incubators.

The brainchild of this exhibit was Dr. Martin Couney, an enigmatic figure in the history of medicine. Couney created and ran incubator-baby exhibits on the island from 1903 to the early 1940s.

Behind the gaudy facade, premature babies were fighting for their lives, attended by a team of medical professionals. To see them, punters paid 25 cents. The public funding paid for the expensive care, which cost about $15 a day in 1903 (the equivalent of $405 today) per incubator.

Couney was in the lifesaving business, and he took it seriously. The exhibit was immaculate. When new children arrived, dropped off by panicked parents who knew Couney could help them where hospitals could not, they were immediately bathed, rubbed with alcohol and swaddled tight, then “placed in an incubator kept at 96 or so degrees, depending on the patient. Every two hours, those who could suckle were carried upstairs on a tiny elevator and fed by breast by wet nurses who lived in the building. The rest [were fed by] a funneled spoon. The smallest baby Couney handled is reported to have weighed a pound and a half.

His nurses all wore starched white uniforms and the facility was always spotlessly clean.

An early advocate of breast feeding, if he caught his wet nurses smoking or drinking they were sacked on the spot. He even employed a cook to make healthy meals for them.

The incubators themselves were a medical miracle, 40 years ahead of what was being developed in America at that time.

Each incubator was made of steel and glass and stood on legs, about 5ft tall. A water boiler on the outside supplied hot water to a pipe running underneath a bed of mesh, upon which the baby slept.

Race, economic class, and social status were never factors in his decision to treat and Couney never charged the parents for the babies care. The names were always kept anonymous, and in later years the doctor would stage reunions of his “graduates.

According to historian Jeffrey Baker, Couney’s exhibits “offered a standard of technological care not matched in any hospital of the time.”

Throughout his decades of saving babies, Couney understood there were better options. He tried to sell, or even donate, his incubators to hospitals, but they didn’t want them. He even offered all his incubators to the city of New York in 1940, but was turned down.

In a career spanning nearly half a century he claimed to have saved nearly 6,500 babies with a success rate of 85 per cent, according to the Coney Island History

In 1943, Cornell New York Hospital opened the city’s first dedicated premature infant station. As more hospitals began to adopt incubators and his techniques, Couney closed the show at Coney Island. He said his work was done.

Today, one in 10 babies born in the United States is premature, but their chance of survival is vastly improved—thanks to Couney and the carnival babies.

  • Mum Brutally Stabbed Saving Her Young Daughter

KNIFE CRIME IS NOT OK IN ANY WAY

On the 7th of October I was called by my 15-year-old daughter who had been jumped with 3 of her friends and as she was shook up and scared she called me for help to come pick her up this was at 7:55 pm

I was given a lift to the co-op  in Basildon and when we arrived I got out of the car and walked towards where my child was my child had her friend’s phone which she needed to return to her friend standing in sight so I agreed that it was ok so I was a few paces behind my daughter my daughter handed the mobile back to her friend and we started walking back go the car which I could see.

Out of no where a man came out of no where and went straight for my daughter I saw his knife before I saw his face and he had every intention to stab my baby girl 15 years old so I pushed my baby girl as hard as I could and she fell to the floor before I realised before I had chance to turn around or run away he unprovoked stuck the knife through my side as my arms were in the air busy pushing my child and run off.

I was bleeding out luckily I was taken to Basildon hospital and was worked on for hours having surgery in A&E as I was in such a serious condition I had puncture lung and nicked a bit of my heart splintered 4 of my ribs I died on that trolley and I can only praise Basildon hospital and all the staff who saved my life.

It will take months to recover been told that I might not ever make a full recovery but I am alive to be able to raise my children my youngest is only 3 years old and no one has the right to hurt people or to take away a loving mother whose children are her world.

We need to set up a knife programme in Basildon to try to educate as many people as possible as it’s not just the person who has been stabbed who is affected by this terrible behaviour it’s the family and friends and the little children waiting for you to return home my 3-year-old daughter was heart-broken totally devastated because I was not at home raising my children but I was in hospital fighting for my Life this has to stop now.

  • Is It Easier To Be Vegan Compared To Eating Meat

    [the_ad_placement id=”before-content”]

Is it easier to be vegan compared to eating meat, dairy and eggs?

    My thoughts:

“it is much easier to eat meat and drink milk”

It is not easier for the animals that are gassed to death or shot.

It is not easier for the animals cramped up in trucks going towards the slaughter-house, for many the only time in their short life they see the sun.

It is not easier for the slaughterhouse workers, who kill hundreds of animals per day, and who suffer from stress and psychological problems because of it.

Or the male chicks dying a painful death being gassed to death just after birth because of that no one can profit from them.

Nor the fish who suffer from being dragged up and who suffer dying in the nets.

It is not easier for the humans and the animals who lose their home when the Amazons is destroyed to make land for soy plantations to feed cows.

It isn’t easier for everyone who suffers from obesity or die of heart attack due to arteries clogged by eating a lot of meat, dairy and eggs.

We can easily get all nutrients we need on a balanced plant-based diet. You can get B12 from meat, but to say that it is easier than ordering B12-supplements isn’t true.

It is much easier to choose life in the supermarket, rather than closing your eyes to all misery, suffering and death that the animals went through to be reduced to meat, dairy, eggs, fish and honey. Choose life and freedom for everyone, step out of paying for this violence. It is much easier to be vegan for everyone and for you.

  • Mum Issues A Stark Warning To All Parents

Mum issues a stark warning to all parents after her family were involved in a terrible car crash – “5-point harness car seats saved my kids lives”

“I have been processing this for days!… A man ran a light as we were going 45 mph and crashed into us head on! There were many wonderful people that stopped. People had to pull our children out of our vehicle. I was trapped inside. I remember a lady asking me if I had 3 children…. as I was screaming “Get my babies!”

Liam could not undo his seatbelt and the truck was covered by airbags and filled with smoke. It was hard for them to see him. He did get out. He is now dealing with issues of “mommy I was left behind!” I was pulled out to hear Alayna screaming “is my mom dead?” I was listed as critical and so was the other gentleman. He was dead on arrival and they revived him.

I left in an ambulance as soon as Neil arrived to the scene. Then my mother in law showed up and she hopped in an ambulance with our girls and Neil went in ambulance with our boys. We had x-rays and cat scans and thank god all was good. Everyone at the ER was in shock that we were alive!

Mum Issues A Stark Warning To All Parents

Thank god for this vehicle that kept the entire cab in tact. Thank god I am a psycho mom who did not listen to her kid and let them ride in a booster! 5 point harness car seats saved my kids lives. Please I am begging you as a mom to really look at this. This could be you! This could be anyone! I would hate to hear about your poor innocent child that died because of a choice that you made for them that could save their life. My children beat the odds on Wednesday and we are very very lucky they are alive.

Booster seat only once 65-100lbs and always back seat. The front seat has wrecked me as a grown adult! Do not do that to these poor growing kids! Back is always best! Do your best to protect them! We are now dealing with body image issues, soreness, nightmares, depression, sensitivity to loud noises, just not feeling like ourselves. This is heartbreaking to see the emotional toll it is taking on our babies!” – via Sarah Sutton

  • My Baby Nearly Died Because Of An Innocent Childrens Toy

“This is the hardest thing I have ever had to write. It’s long but please read. Especially if you are a parent.

So I’ve just experienced the worst 24 hours of my life. My son Toby yesterday nearly died. They say you can’t watch them 24/7 and how true that is.

Yesterday around lunchtime Toby managed to put something in his mouth and he started to choke. I walked towards Toby and be walked towards me holding his throat and unable to breathe. Whatever it was had become lodged in his throat blocking his airway. I called rich and he came running. An ambulance was called and we started the attempt to save our boys life. We started with back thrusts but the lodged item Wouldn’t budge. Rich attempted to scoop it out but still to no avail. Our friend and colleague Campbell came to assist and rich and him working as a team started performing CPR.

Watching that being performed on your own child is a vision I will never be rid of. He managed only a couple of short laboured breaths and went in and out of consciousness. On two occasions he stopped breathing, his body went limp, eyes in the back of his head. We all thought the worst.

His jaw had locked shut, My limp lifeless boy on the cold kitchen floor. The ambulance crew arrived within 6 minutes and started to attempt to save Toby. He expelled blood from his nose and was blue. Never a sight I ever wish to witness on anybody. I had flashing images throughout it all but never let go of my boy’s hand. I was pulled away at one point but fought my way back to my boy’s side. No matter what outcome he would want his mummy with him.

The paramedics arrived and took control, Rich and Campbell taking it in turns to perform CPR. The crew managed to get his mouth open and get a blade in and engaged the ball enough to scoop it out. There I was thinking my boy had choked on a marble, not a large approx 4cm wide rubber ball. One of those innocent rubber balls you get in party bag favours, they sell in those machines in pubs, they are super bouncy and great fun! I never ever wish to see one of those balls again.

My Baby Nearly Died Because Of An Innocent Childrens Toy
My Baby Nearly Died Because Of An Innocent Childrens Toy

Toby was rushed to hospital as he wasn’t able to breathe on his own. He had X-rays and there was a shadow over one lung. There was now the worry of infection and any life long damage caused due to lack of oxygen to his brain. He was able to, with limited response nod or shake his head. Drifting in and out of sleep. My normal talkative 2.5 year old boy wasn’t talking. He was put on antibiotics straight away. He remained on oxygen for over 12 hours, every time they tried to remove it his little body couldn’t cope. He slept longer than he has ever slept in his life with his mummy watching every breath. His little body struggling to breath like it should. He kept getting a raised temperature, something else to cause more concern. I couldn’t bare watching my boy so helpless.

His big sister brushing her hand across his head, telling him not to put a ball in his mouth. The tears finally started to fall, whilst I bite down on a piece of toast, it’s real. This has really happened to me and my family.

Before daddy went home he perked up just enough to point to a family photo on the phone and name everyone in the photo. Wow those words daddy, mummy, Darcey, toby and bear. The best words in the world.

During the night we managed to remove the oxygen and finally Toby managed to breath on his own, no longer laboured but his chest doing what it needs to do.

After that He slept and he slept, Being checked through the night by the wonderful nurses. That bloody temperature I just wanted it to be back to normal. Finally the sun came up and I was wide awake. Watching my little boy sleep. That temperate checked yet another time, and my prayers finally answered, finally the number 36. Yes Toby you little fighter you body is working as it should. He began talking and he got off the bed looked outside and wanted to go play. The consultant came around this morning and told me how utterly lucky my little boy was. The speedy actions of myself, rich, Campbell and my dad making that call, the paramedics saved my boys life. SAVED MY BOYS LIFE, words are used loosely but my god this time a truer word cannot be spoken. I am the mother of 2 wonderful healthy children x I am blessed and so thankful I cannot express it enough”

  • This Picture Is The Final Straw For Me-Alfie Evans

Sarah Clegg has something to say about the high profile case of little Alfie whose parents are currently fighting to remove their son from Alder hey hospital and get treatment else where, Alfies parents have set up protests and petitions.

Clegg said “I’ve tried so hard to not share my feelings about the current situation at Alder Hey but this picture is the final straw 4 me…… a bouncy castle in the middle of a dual carriage way, what a lovely addition to a great day out where people can take their children to observe abuse bein hurled at staff, placards with “murderer” written on them being flashed, people chanting like they are at a football match, fireworks being set off, laser pens being shone, horns beeped, roads blocked, megaphones used! How is any of this helping Alfie or maintaining his dignity in any way…… most of these people are not “peacefully protesting” for Alfie, they are joining a mob culture, that has been ill-informed via social media.

I know exactly how alfies parents are feeling and denial is a horrendous place to be…. I fully understand that you would travel to the end of the earth if there is hope of a cure for your child, however there are hundreds of sick children in Alder hey and this circus is distressing for them and their families! I’m not going to share the specifics of Theo’s icu journey, because that is our journey and not something I feel anyone else needs to know, but all I will say is we were all treated with the up most love, respect and dignity and we as parents always lead on decision-making about Theo’s care!

On this exact day 3 years ago, the very staff that are currently being spat at, receiving abusive phone calls and called murderers stayed on beyond their shifts and most of the night whilst they battled in theatre and saved Theo’s life! That very night they were all supposed to be going to one of the consultant cardiologists leaving do after work!!!! Not one single person went to that do, they stayed in theatre all night long working on my boy….. his surgeon then didn’t go home to his own family that night, he got his head down in the staff room for an hour before starting work again in the morning!”

    So……….

  • A C-Section? So You Didn’t Actually Give Birth

A lady named Raye Lee took to Facebook to express her feelings and the post has since gone viral

Lee said: “Oh. A c-section? So you didn’t actually give birth. It must have been nice to take the easy way out like that.”

Ah, yes. My emergency c-section was absolutely a matter of convenience. It was really convenient to be in labour for 38 hours before my baby went into distress and then every contraction was literally STOPPING his HEART.

Being told at the beginning that I was displaying great progress and wouldn’t need a cesarean section… and then being told that I was being prepped for major abdominal surgery was not a shock at all. It had nothing to do with the fact that I physically couldn’t because I was given no other choice to save the life of my child. Oh, and that surgery is super easy peasy to recover from.

    WRONG, That is all sarcasm.

This was the most painful thing I have experienced in my life.

I now belong to a badass tribe of mamas with the scar to prove that I had a baby cut out of me and lived to tell the tale.

( because you can die from this, you know. )

Having a shrieking infant pulled out of an incision that is only 5 inches long, but is cut and shredded and pulled until it rips apart through all of your layers of fat, muscle, and organs (which they lay on the table next to your body, in order to continue to cut until they reach your child) is a completely different experience than I had imagined my son’s birth to be.

This was not pleasant. It still isn’t.

You use your core muscles for literally everything… even sitting down, imagine not being able to use them because they have literally been shredded and mangled by a doctor and not being able to repair them for 6+ weeks because your body has to do it naturally.

When that first nurse asked you to try getting out of bed and the ripping pain of a body cut apart and stitched back together seared through you, you realized the irony of anybody who talks about it being the “easy way out”. So fuck you and fuck how you see what I did.

I am the strongest woman, that I know. Not only for myself, but for my beautiful son… and I would honestly go through this every single day just to make sure I am able to see his smiling face.
