  • Why Won’t She Change Her Surname

I need to know if I am in the wrong here, I am pretty sure I am not.

My partner was married for 11 years to the mother of his three children, I met him 2 years after they had split and we are very happy together and I get on really well with his three children there is only one problem, my partners ex-wife!!!

She kept his surname when they split and I didn’t say anything straight away I then asked him why she still had it when they are divorced, he did not answer me.

Since then she has remarried changed her name to her new married name divorced again and gone back to my partners surname.

Am I wrong in asking him to ask her to go to her maiden name and not his name?? We are going through a bad patch on the verge of splitting up as it is. I have to deal with her going to his family parties which I hate and now she has gone back to his name.

We were planning to get married in the next few years but I refuse while she has his name. Surely when u divorce u would go back to your maiden name.

He argues that she may want the same surname as their children but this argument is invalid as surely she would have kept that name when she married her last husband, i cannot share the same name as her, especially as she is still unfortunately very much part of our lives.

Everyone I have spoken to says that it is strange or one person commented that her maiden name must be awful to avoid using it again (it’s a pretty normal surname) am I wrong to feel upset and annoyed by this or am I being selfish or unnecessarily annoyed?

  • Mum Warns Others To Be Careful With These Shoes

Kelly Barnes took to Facebook to warn other mums about Tescos Jelly shoes, the soft plastic shoes are often worn on sunny days down at the beach so are designed to be worn without socks.

Barnes said “this is the result of my poor 19 month old boys foot!! After wearing tesco jelly sandals twice… this is the metal that attached the buckle on the inside of the sandal! If anyone else has purchased these please be careful and keep an eye on your little ones feet! I thought I had finally found footwear he would keep on! Or not now! “

In the photos you can clearly see where the metal part which holds the strap in place is slightly raised and has caused it to rub on the toddlers ankle causing it to bled and cause pain.

We are unaware if Kelly Bares has contacted Tescos to inform them of the problem, this could be a one off as the shoe could be faulty however if they are all the same many other children may experience blistering and or bleeding, if this does occur we advise that you contact Tesco and let them know.

Do you own a pair of these Jelly shoes? Have you had an issue with them or has your child been absolutely fine, we would like to hear your experiences with Tesco Jelly shoes.

To share your own story, want to raise awareness of any topic or would like us to look into something or wish to advertise on Mums advice Facebook page and or our website please send us an emai to mumsadviceltd@outlook.com

  • I Had To Choose Which Child To Keep

I had to choose which child to keep

I can only be a good parent to one of my two child and this kills me inside.

I have two children Shane who Is 13 and Chloe who is 3, I love them both so much.

Shane has always been a hand full, playing truant from school, hanging around with the wrong crowd and getting up to mischief, Shane was always so angry and quick to fly into a temper.

I have had the school, police and social services involved to try to control and calm Shane down and trying to teach me ways to deal with him.

Shane did have some good traits he dotted on his little sister always hugging her and playing with her, I never once thought he would hurt her, yes he had slapped me on a number of occasions but Chloe was his favourite person in the whole world.

Shane was already in his 4th secondary school after being excluded from others, just after Halloween I received a call from Shane’s new school.

It had been brought to a teacher’s attention that my son had been boasting to his friends that when he got home he was going to rape and drown his sister in the bath.

I will never know if he meant it or whether he was just showing off in front of everyone.

I wasn’t prepared to take that chance, I had no control of him, at the age of 13 he was bigger and stronger than me, had he tried to hurt Chloe I would have had little power to stop him.

I handed my first-born child over to the local authority to protect my youngest child.

Not a day goes by where I don’t feel ashamed and guilty, Shane won’t speak to me, the last thing he said to me before he cut contact was “you picked her over me, if you thought I was gonna hurt her why didn’t you give her up”.

I had to make a choice my violent son whom I loved but had failed or my innocent daughter.

Did I make the right choice, my daughter would have been loved by any family had I given her up, but my son needed me.

I don’t think I’ll ever come to terms with my decision but I did what I thought was right for my daughter.

I just hope my son grows up into a decent human being and we can rekindle some sort of relationship.
