  • For All You Mamas Who Can’t Have A Photographer At Your Birth

For all of you mamas that are unable to have a photographer at your birth or fresh 48, here are some helpful hints for you to take great photos on your phone or with your own camera!

-Take them during the day when there is plenty of window light.

-TURN OFF the hospital lights! Use the window light only, if you can!

-Position your baby facing the light coming through the window.

-Don’t shoot towards the window. Shoot with the window to your side or to your back, but be careful not to block the light coming through!

    • Don’t photograph aiming up the babies nose. Shoot down, from above or the side of the baby.
    • Get close! Thats where the details are! Fresh skin and tiny fingers and toes are important!

-Download the Lightroom App on your phone and edit your photos there!

Saw this on another photographers page this morning and thought it was a great idea!

    I wanted to also add:

Ask your nurse to swaddle the baby for you. NURSES ARE THE BEST SWADDLERS!

    TAG your expecting mama friends!

We ALL, professionals and individuals, should be doing our part to help one another. Giving advice, lending a helping hand, and doing what is best for one another. This post was not created to gain business, or promote my business in anyway. Just to share a wonderful idea that another photographer had. By adding tips, and taking out some things I wouldn’t do personally, was a way for me to reach out and help the expecting mothers in my community!

  • This Is The Exact Moment I Realized

” of all the photos I posted from my daughter Malia,

This one makes me more emotional because it shows the second exact I realized she had down syndrome.

The moment he was born and cleaned it, I asked: ” has down syndrome?”

Nobody heard me, so I asked: ”

    It’s all right?”.

I felt guilty that these were my first words, even without someone hearing them.

When they put it on my chest the first time, I took this picture and entered a kind of limbo.

I wasn’t ashamed in any way… but the photo was somehow, I don’t know what word to use… revealing? A Confirmation?

Every time I wanted to post a picture of her, I was back to see this first picture.

I thought the world out there wasn’t going to answer as I wanted. But I love this photo more than anyone can imagine.

The reason I’m finally posting it now is that if there’s someone out there who listens to this diagnosis, before or after birth, I want you to know that everything is fine. Maybe not at first, maybe not for a while, but everything will be fine.

Among all the parents who could have had, his baby chose you “.

  • The Back To School Pictures Every Year Are Dull And Mundane

I know just what you’re thinking because I used to think the same,

The back to school spam every year is dull and quite mundane.

But then I had my own kids which I didn’t have before,

And now I see the meaning of those photos stood by the front door.

These children seem to grow so quick and at the start of each September,

We take a photo of them in their uniform so their changes, we remember.

Their first new shiny school shoes that walk them in on their first day,

The wonky ties of teens who are figuring out their way.

We’ve ironed on the name labels, repeated “just do your best”,

Reminisced on where the years went from when they were first laid on our chest.

I get that another school photo popping up as a Facebook post,

Isn’t always very interesting and seems like a parenting boast.

But these children in these photos stood by the house front door,

Are our proudest achievements in our lives and we couldn’t wish for more.

So when you see the back to school spam I ask you to remember,

To parents this is so much more than just another passing September.

  • Emily Ratajkowski Fat Shaming

I’m not sure if you guys have seen this but, Emily Ratajkowski has been getting a lot of back lash over a simple picture she posted on her Instagram. She has been accused of “fat shaming” her friend Caitlin King in the photo by posing next to her.

Caitlin is a close friend of Emily’s and is supporting her brand by wearing Emily’s swimwear. Emily has responded to some of the “trolls” who are shaming her.

My opinion, in no way do I believe that Emily is fat shaming. 1) I think the people who are calling her out as fat shaming are in fact the fat shammers. Because they are assuming that Caitlin thinks she’s being brought down by Emily’s picture and are in fact commenting on her body. 2) it’s just an innocent picture. It’s not that deep! The girl captioned the picture “beach buns”. She didn’t say “hey, look at my fat friend!” And finally 3) in some of the comments they’re saying that they’d “bang” Caitlin over Emily any day. Now I think that that’s taking it too far. I know they’re probably making her feel better and stating their opinion, but constantly saying they prefer a body type over another is just as bad as accusing fat shaming in this way.

I think both girls are beautiful, confidence is sexy and if I even had a slither of either body type, I’d be the same!! But I’m happy on my own skin and think I’m also beautiful. If anyone is feeling down about their body, don’t be! You’re beautiful in every single way! Don’t let awful remarks put you down! Jealousy is ugly, confidence is sexy 🥰

  • Justice For Lily-My Last Photo Of My Angel

This is the last picture I will ever have of my baby girl. 5 years ago right now she was eating lucky charms with my dad when I told her we had to get dressed. She looked at me with tears in her eyes and said “why mommy?” And all I could do was say “I’m sorry baby.” I held her hand as she cried on the way to meet her “father”. She asked if we could go to splash village and I told her we would when there was snow on the ground. She asked if Barney could come to her birthday and I told her that he would. And the last promise I made her was that one day she wouldn’t have to go to their house.

We got to the meeting spot and she was crying saying mommy please don’t make me go. I just kept telling her I’m sorry baby and I love you and I will see you tomorrow. He took her and she continued to cry. He let her give me one last kiss and he walked away as she screamed and reached trying to get back to me. You never forget that sound. I went home to get things ready for her to come back. I was going to clean our room and meet my cousin Erica to give her some of Lily’s old toys. And I was going to go Christmas shopping.

I was at Walmart when my mom and dad texted they arrived at our cabin 3 hours away. They sent me a picture of a 3 foot princess stocking and told me to start shopping for stocking stuffers. I was in the stocking stuffer isle at Walmart at 3:01 pm when I looked at my phone and saw her “father” calling.

I picked it up and he said to get to the macomb general hospital right now. That there was an accident and Renee fell on Lily in the shower. I asked if she was ok and he said he didn’t know and to just get there right away. I left my cart and sped walked to the car thinking that’s it! She’s not going back. Thinking it was a broken arm or leg. I called my mom and she said to meet my uncle at my house and he would drive me. They were on their way.

So I pulled in my driveway jumped in the passenger seat as him and my cousin jumped in and we left. He drove as fast as he could trying to get their but it was rush hour traffic. Her “father” kept calling and saying where are you? I told him I was trying to get there as fast as I could but the hospital was an hour an a half away without traffic. I asked if she was ok and he hung up on me.

This continued a few more times before I called the hospital. I asked the nurse if she was ok and she said the words I will never forget, “I wouldn’t be telling you this over the phone but you need to get here. It’s bad. She’s been back there with the doctors for an hour and she has no pulse.” I don’t remember the rest of the ride. I remember asking my 14-year-old cousin to call everyone and ask them to pray. I should have never put that responsibility on her.

When we arrived at the Er they made my uncle move the car. Her “father” was standing outside smoking as I opened the door. My knees gave out and I couldn’t stand. I asked him if she was ok and he said no. I asked him if she was alive and he said no. My world came crashing down at that moment. When the detective came in later she asked what type of underwear was Lily wearing and asked if I helped wipe her that morning when she used the potty. I told her I did and she asked if there was blood. I told her no.

My mom said why are you asking these questions. The detective said because Lily was severely sexually abused preceding her death. We went home that night and sat in the car. How do you go back into a house that the one person who made it a home is never coming back? How do you go on when all your hopes and dreams are taken away? It was just supposed to be 33 hours, not a lifetime. To this day I hate when my parents go anywhere far away because I’m scared something is going to happen.

To this day I can’t go in that isle of Walmart. To this day I can’t wake up on November 20th and not replay every horrific moment. I miss you Lily to infinity and beyond always and forever and I will never stop fighting for you. So if you are still reading at this point please share Lily’s story today. Please make a choice to be her voice because there is no excuse for child abuse. And please hug your children a little tighter and longer as none of us are promised tomorrow. Thank you all for your support! God bless you! #justiceforlily #lilysvoice #30daysoflily

Update 11/26/18- It’s been 3 years since I wrote this and this post still rings true. In the hardest days each year I am thankful to each one of you that have shared her story. To know that her supporters have grown and praying that at least one child is saved in her memory. I miss her every second of everyday but coming on here and seeing her story being shared 8 years later has me in tears. God bless each and every one of you! ❤️

Update 11/27- I have received a ton of messages asking if she got justice. Renee was found guilty of criminal sexual conduct, first degree child abuse and first degree murder. She is spending life in prison without parole. I truly wish I could individually thank each and every one of you who have shared but the shares are coming in at like 3000 an hour. So please know my entire family is so thankful for each of you being Lily’s voice. If you would like to join our fight please go to https://www.facebook.com/JusticeForLily/❤️
