  • This Picture Perfectly Illustrates The Divide That Happens When No one Steps In

*This picture is blurry for a reason.

I’m not trying to put this specific family on blast, but I am trying to shine a light on these little moments of motherhood that can add up to feeling isolated and resentful, and this one captures it perfectly.

While at lunch yesterday, I watched this mom entertain her baby with a balloon, with walking around, with touching the art on the wall, etc. (we’ve all been there) the entire time her family enjoyed their birthday celebration with food and drinks and lively conversation. No one stepped in to let HER enjoy being part of the group. This image, with the mom in pink on the left (with her baby touching a balloon) is an accurate visual of the constant, UNSEEN care-taking of motherhood many moms do that leave us out of the group.

Either no one noticed the subtle work she was doing, or no one wanted to give up their enjoyment to let her have a taste of it too. I considered offering to hold her baby so she could rejoin her family for a bit, but I knew that was gonna be weird.

And people wonder why postpartum depression, rage, and resentment are a common part of modern motherhood. 🤔 We don’t just need better diagnosis and doctors to help new moms – we need our families and friends to notice us, and to help bring us back to the table.

I vividly remember this stage and I remember writing in a journal that I never wanted to forget how isolating it felt at dinners and parties to be walking a baby around while everyone sips on wine and tickles the baby’s feet as I pass them instead of offering to help me eat without a human on me. I never wanted to forget it because I knew that “Gramnesia” would probably erase it from my brain. I wrote it down so I would remember to help my then grown-up kids and spouses in this department – especially the moms.

Please share this far and wide so that people in different phases of life and roles in families can see where these cracks form for us moms, and where they can easily step in and help us. Even if they can’t understand it because they haven’t lived it, this picture perfectly illustrates the divide that happens when no one steps in. #bringusbacktothetable #gramnesia #motherhood #defaultparent

  • What To Say In An Emergency When Out Partying

TO ALL DJ’S, DOOR STAFF, BAR STAFF, MANAGERS

INFO…And anyone going out to party

A dj was approached while working by a young girl and asked for the first time, “Is Angela working tonight?” – having read about the #AskforAngela initiative He knew instantly what she was referencing, said yes, told her to jump in the DJ booth with him, (she was extremely nervous…) and in turn asked the nearest security guard the same question. Luckily, he too knew, and the young girl was escorted through the back of the venue and into a taxi immediately. Her “date” upon returning from the bathroom was asked to leave by management, he without delay turned violent and security stepped-in.

Basically, #AskforAngela is a scheme in place (established in the UK) which aims at reducing sexual violence and vulnerability by providing WOMEN and MEN with a subtle phrase to assist getting them out of potentially dangerous and helpless situations. First-dates, Tinder-dates or frankly getting home alone after a night out can unfortunately (history-proven) be a risk. I urge all DJs, venues, those in hospitality/night-life to look into the concept and educate yourselves and your staff. It may seem extreme, but sometimes you may be someones only option,

  • Ban Pony Painting Parties Now

Pony painting parties are a disturbing trend popping up all over the UK. Imagine being tied up amidst shrieking laughter, unpredictable touching and having strangers smear your hair in paint. This is happening all over the country to horses right now and we need to take a stand and get pony painting parties banned.

How would you feel about strangers smearing paint on your pet? Is this something we want to encourage in children? If left unchecked, this will only get worse. What will happen when a stressed horse kicks or bites a child? What if there are tragic fatalities? These parties are dangerous to both children and animals – and all just for a bit of money.

The 2006 Animal Welfare Act says that owners have a positive duty of care towards their animals and a responsibility to prevent the animal from becoming distressed. Animals have ways of communicating distress – horses show stress signs through swishing, flared nostrils, raised tail, sweating and a raised heartbeat. These subtle signals are not obvious  to families/children and could even be ignored by organisers who are prioritising profits.

Animals do not want to be grabbed at, shrieked at or painted on for human’s enjoyment. Sign my petition to take a stand today to get this unnecessary cruelty banned!

  • Mum Sets Up a Justgiving Page For Sons Birthday

A mum has set up a justgiving  page to get parents to ‘contribute’ money for her son’s 10th birthday instead of giving him the traditional presents.

Paramita Sarkar says her son Adi always gets far to many presents from friends when he has his parties that they are pointless and not played with .

So, before his tenth birthday next month, she’s set up a JustGiving page and is planning on asking parents and friends to donate cash instead – ‘to get something useful that would be treasured’.

With a suggested donation of £15 per child, from around 20 children he is thinking of inviting to his party, Adi, from Bramhall, would have a huge £300 to splash out on what he really wants.

Paramita, who’s taking her son to Disney World in Florida next week as his present from his mum and dad Indranil, said: “There is no party without presents but afterwards we are left with boxes of Lego every year which stop getting played with.

“They get piled up in boxes and we run out of space to store all the board games – sometimes duplicate ones.

“So I have set up this JustGiving page where I would request mums to contribute – not donate – instead of buying presents.

“I can then buy something that my boy would actually appreciate and treasure over a long period of time. This is simply to reduce the clutter and buy something really useful.”

The mum is trying to gauge people’s reactions as to whether her site is an ‘acceptable’ idea, or whether she’d be judged or have negative comments by other parents.

She said: “Friends have said it’s a good idea so I set up the link, but I’m apprehensive about circulating it at school as I don’t want to feel judged.

“I’m hoping they’ll be positive when they see it and take it up.

“If everybody contributed say £15 a time, there’ll be 20 people and Adi can actually buy something really nice.”

The 39-year-old says Adi, who’s in Year 5 at Cheadle Hulme School, will not be upset that his school mates  arrive at his party without gifts.

She added: “I have explained to him and he is cool with the idea and also keeps asking how much collections have been made.”

Paramita says there is no specific target for the crowdfunding, but she set ‘a humble one’ at £50.

She’s already exceeded the amount after money donations from some close friends and family who attended a small party for Adi when they went to watch the Chinese circus at Tatton Park earlier this month.
