  • NHS Staff Being Fined For Parking When Working

Sat in tears in my car after a long, hard 12.5 hour shift in A&E….

and all for the wrong reasons 😰😢

    UHCW please somebody help !!!

I’m absolutely losing my rag and don’t know what to do.

For the past 8 years I have worked within the hospital and for those entire 8 years I have never EVER been given a parking pass despite multiple phone calls, emails, appeals, basically begging!!

I have had countless struggles over the 8 years trying to get myself to work and back.

These days I have to dump my car out side of the hospital and walk a good 20 min at least in all weathers & pitch black in winter.

I’ve encountered trouble with youths, horrible weather leaving me soaked for 12.5 hr shifts and even had to waddle after my days at work throughout both of my pregnancies within the trust.

More and more of the estates around the trust become covered in red/yellow lines making it next to impossible to find somewhere ‘acceptable’ to park, pushing people to park further and further away.

Now for the past 2 shifts I have got back to my car, exhausted, and today soaked, to find 2 parking tickets AGAIN.

Paying ÂŁ10 a day in the visitor car park is not happening, I have 4 children to provide for!

Please ffs someone help me resolve this utter nightmare I’m in ?!?!?!?!

All to get myself to work and back…. does the hospital have that little respect for me that they think these daily struggles are acceptable for loyal dedicated members of staff?

Honestly, please, someone offer some help or a solution because to be left in tears after a 12.5 hr day at work in A&E because of this is not acceptable.

I love my job but this alone makes me want to look elsewhere 😰 The daily struggle is unreal.

?UHCW- Coventry council- Government – whoever is responsible for this should be ashamed of this poor treatment to staff 😭😭😭😭😭

    *******UPDATE*******

Thank you so so much to anyone showing their support for me on this post. This was originally a private post to air my frustration to my friends. I was asked by a few people to make it public so they can share how bad the situation is and I never expected so many people to be concerned enough to share and comment!

Just a few things to point out now though –

    – Please read the post properly and see that on this occasion I was not parked on hospital grounds so this is NOT a ticket from any of UHCW’s security staff.

Although I have gotten many tickets on site before, this is not a dig at our security staff so please do not make this about them.

    – I was parking with a friends permit on these 2 occasions, on an estate near the hospital, which should have been valid – therefore I am in the process of doing an appeal for both tickets as I believe I should not have got them anyway! Thought I had a temporary solution to my parking issues… apparently I can’t even take my friends kind gesture of help now!

    – To the best of my knowledge, I believe the main problem is that the current car park is privately owned, NOT by the hospital. So it is the private company at fault for the ludicrous daily parking charges and fines on site. They have also introduced a new 10 minute rule where I believe you will be sent a fine even if you are not parked, and spend more than 10 minutes on site 🤷🏼‍♀️

    – And finally, again to the best of my knowledge, I believe the main thing UHCW needs is to build a whole new big car park for NHS staff, as right now the demand for passes much outweighs the current capacity. However I believe this isn’t supported by the council —— therefore it seems that these are the main ones needed to resolve the issue!

Although really, this isn’t something a humble band 5 A&E nurse should have to think about. I certainly don’t get paid enough for that !!

This should have been resolved years ago by all these high up, well paid decision making people 🤣

I want nothing more than to drive to my place of work, do my 12.5 hour shift, and drive back home 😊

Thank you everyone for showing some support 🙏💓😀 xxx

  • What They Don’t Tell You About The NICU

It’s been 4 months since my little baby came into this world. 4 months since I was being rushed back for an emergency c-section. 4 months since the doctors cheered after hearing your little cry. 4 months since you were taken out of the operating room and into the NICU before I could see you.

Just two days before that we were given a tour of the NICU. I remember feeling pretty calm and comfortable with the fact that that’s where my baby would be. The nurse showed us the different pods, told us what to expect, and explained what he would need to do in order to go home: breathe on his own, eat on his own, and gain weight.

Looking back now I realize that there were so many things that they didn’t tell us. That I wasn’t prepared for.

They don’t tell you that in just a couple of days that place will terrify you. It will become a second home you wish you never had.

They don’t tell you how absolutely depressing it is to be discharged. Packing your bags and being wheeled out of the hospital without your baby is enough to make you want to vomit.

They don’t tell you that you will feel this way EVERY TIME you leave that hospital without your baby.

They don’t tell you that just days after a c-section, the walk from the parking deck to the NICU will be the longest, most painful walk of your life.

They don’t tell you that holding your baby for the first time will be the best and worst moment of your life. You finally get to hold him – yay! But it’s not supposed to be this uncomfortable and terrifying.

They don’t tell you that your interstate anxiety will instantly become a thing of the past because nothing – rain, flooding, thunderstorms, and not even the Afton mountain fog – will keep you from seeing your baby.

They don’t tell you that you will blame the nurses and doctors. Your baby was having such a great day yesterday and now he’s back on oxygen and hooked up to IV’s. The medical staff must not be keeping a close enough eye on him.

They don’t tell you that you will dream about the NICU. You will hear beeping machines in your sleep.

They don’t tell you that you won’t feel like a mom. Someone else is taking care of your newborn. They are feeding him, changing him, and keeping him alive. What are you here for?

They don’t tell you that you will cuss the people in the parking deck and the ones walking slow in front of you because it’s 1:55 and if you’re not in the NICU at 2:00 they will feed your baby without you and that’s what you look forward to everyday.

They don’t tell you that you will pull into a rest stop on your way home to call and bitch at the nurse for not giving your constipated baby a glycerin yet. Obviously that’s way more important than what her other babies may be dealing with.

They don’t tell you that you will hate your significant other. He obviously doesn’t love your baby as much as you do. How dare he want to take a day off from visiting him to relax and get some things done around the house. He must not care.

They don’t tell you that your friends will piss you off and not even know it. How dare they have fun together and live a normal life when you feel like yours is falling apart.

They don’t tell you that you will keep these feelings bottled up. You know you’re being irrational.

They don’t tell you that you will become miserable to be around. You don’t want to have fun. You don’t want to tell your family members that your baby is having a “bad” day.

They don’t tell you that someone telling you that their coworkers sisters best friends baby was in the NICU and she’s 5 years old now and healthy as can be will NOT make you feel better. That’s not YOUR baby. YOUR baby may be different.

They don’t tell you that someone telling you to “take a day off” will piss you off. How are you supposed to take a day off when that’s your baby over there, in the hospital, an hour away?

They don’t tell you that you will make the trip to see him two times in one day because you got home and realized that you missed him and needed more cuddles.

They don’t tell you that even though he isn’t home yet, you still don’t get much sleep.

They don’t tell you that you will eventually become numb to the feeling of nurses rushing in when his oxygen and heart rate drops once again, causing a machine to alarm.

They don’t tell you that you will become an expert on NEC, chronic lung disease, and various other diseases that can affect preemies.

They don’t tell you that you will struggle. The money it takes to travel there adds up. You’ll take weeks off work because your baby needs you. You’re significant other will take FMLA when your baby isn’t doing good. You will understand what it means to be broke.

They don’t tell you that people will talk. He was probably born early because I worked out during my pregnancy, right? Or I must have been doing SOMETHING wrong to make him come early.

They don’t tell you that you will blame yourself. Even though you know there was no way to stop the preeclampsia, it was still your body that was the problem. And cutting back on sodium and drinking more water doesn’t touch a blood pressure that is 178/119.

They don’t tell you that you will go from ignoring every unknown caller to rushing to your phone at the sound of the first ring. Who knows, that number from Houston, Texas may be a doctor that just recently moved to VA.

They don’t tell you that your heart will race when your phone does ring. Is it UVA? Is it bad news? Is Grayson ok?

They don’t tell you that you will always have a terrible, awful, feeling that your baby will never come home with you.

They don’t tell you that you will learn to smile to hide your jealousy. You will try to hold back tears as yet another happy family walks out of the NICU with their baby, taking him home.

They don’t tell you that the first couple nights home with him will be absolutely terrifying. Is he breathing ok? It’s hard to tell without monitors on him.

They don’t tell you that you won’t remember much from that time frame. If it didn’t have to do with the NICU and your baby, it didn’t happen.

They don’t tell you that you won’t know fear until you see your baby being rushed BACK to UVA in an ambulance because his oxygen is low. All those tears you’ve held back for weeks will finally pour out.

They don’t tell you that your heart will stop and your soul will leave your body when you hear the doctors mention pneumonia. You know what that means for a baby that delicate and small.

They don’t tell you that your blood will boil when his 6-year-old brother tells his grandma that he’s big and healthy because he “got out of the hospital on time, unlike Grayson”. You let it slide and don’t say a word because he’s only 6 years old, you know he didn’t think of that on his own. 6 year olds don’t say things like that. Adults do.

They don’t tell you that you that people you don’t even know will send you their prayers. Friends and family members that you haven’t seen or spoken to in years will give you their support and love.

They don’t tell you that this whole experience will make you thankful. There will be a new meaning to life. Your baby fought for his life and won. He may be fragile but he’s STRONG.

Babies are born smaller and earlier than Grayson everyday. He was born with no life threatening health issues. He spent 53 days in the NICU. He’s one of the lucky ones.

Grayson James was born at 32 weeks gestational age at 2 lbs 13 oz. He’s now 4 months old and 9 lbs 3 oz. That’s something to be thankful for.

  • Nurses Shouldn’t Be Scared To Call In Sick

My friend had a sky-rocket temperature, I did not have a temperature gauge at the time to take her temperature however she was burning up, to touch she was very hot, it was like touching a radiator. She was talking gibberish and was feeling somewhat rotten.

I had assisted my friend in having a bath and using the toilet, I had given her paracetamol to cool her down and helped her to eat and drink, you see me, and this friend are very close and have known each other for years so I look after her when she needs me, and vice versa. However, this whole situation could have been avoided.

You see this friend works for the NHS, the place where you go to get better.

This friend however feels victimized and bullied by the people whom employ her. I have also heard that other members of staff where she works feel the same.

My friend began to feel poorly on the Friday, she was due in work on the Saturday and Sunday, on the Saturday when she awoke she was very poorly, she had a temperature and she hardly had the strength to walk. When I told her that she needed to get some rest and cancel work she told me that she was already on a stage 1 disciplinary for sickness and that she was fearful of the manager.

The reason she was on a stage one disciplinary, she had been off 3 times (Each time for 1 day or less) in the space of 1 year, 365 days.

    The reasons being?

Work related injuries, a bad shoulder and sickness bugs contracted from cleaning up shit and vomit all day every day.

On the first day my friend went to work and came home 1 hour early due to nearly collapsing whilst doing her job.

On the Sunday my friend went into work again, she had stayed in bed until 12 noon, which is not like her at all, she then got up and dragged herself to work for her late shift, again I had helped her have a bath and dress. I advised her not to go into work, however she still feared losing her job or getting a bad reference when she leaves, which she intends on doing this year.

I HAVE a massive question to ask, why in the fuck as human beings do we allow someone to have authority over us to the point that we will go into work when we are dead on our feet in fear of punishment from management?

Why do we have to watch what we (nurses, care staff, doctors.) post on social media in fear of being taken into the office?

It is time to change, it is time new rules were bought in, yes there are people out there that take the piss, they should be dealt with. The ones that say they are ill and then go out and have a beer with the lads and plaster it all over social media. They are the people who should be facing disciplinary action.

However, when you have a nurse whom has done the job for over a decade and is rarely ill, when you have a nurse whom is as a 30-year-old woman fearful of her manager. Then we must start to question, when does enough become enough?

When does the welfare of he nurses, doctors and ambulance crew come into the picture?

When does the welfare of the families of these staff come into the picture?

When does the world wake up and say thank-you, how many people say thank-you to their nurse or doctor?

If there are any managers reading this, how many times do you thank your staff for their work? Or are you concentrating on the things that they have not done, are you concentrating on the fact that they are 2 minutes late as they struggle to get their kids into school on time and then into work. How many times have you asked your workers if they are ok? if there is anything you can do to support them at work?

I today have taken time off work to support my friend. My friend means more to me than any job ever will.

Maybe if we all took a stand when it was necessary to do so, then the care sector managers and higher staff would realise that they are not feared, and that fear is not a way to gain respect and control. To gain respect you must earn it. Respect is earned not given.

Bullies, they get nowhere, as there is always someone around the corner willing to stand up to them.

Remember people, the only person whom can allow someone to have authority over you, is you.

Full credit to a gentleman named Joe.

Don’t marry a Health care assistant. They sleep all day while you work and work all night while you sleep. Or, their 0500 alarm disturbs your sleep and then they come home too tired to cook dinner. Don’t marry a Health care assistant.

  • This Picture Is The Final Straw For Me-Alfie Evans

Sarah Clegg has something to say about the high profile case of little Alfie whose parents are currently fighting to remove their son from Alder hey hospital and get treatment else where, Alfies parents have set up protests and petitions.

Clegg said “I’ve tried so hard to not share my feelings about the current situation at Alder Hey but this picture is the final straw 4 me…… a bouncy castle in the middle of a dual carriage way, what a lovely addition to a great day out where people can take their children to observe abuse bein hurled at staff, placards with “murderer” written on them being flashed, people chanting like they are at a football match, fireworks being set off, laser pens being shone, horns beeped, roads blocked, megaphones used! How is any of this helping Alfie or maintaining his dignity in any way…… most of these people are not “peacefully protesting” for Alfie, they are joining a mob culture, that has been ill-informed via social media.

I know exactly how alfies parents are feeling and denial is a horrendous place to be…. I fully understand that you would travel to the end of the earth if there is hope of a cure for your child, however there are hundreds of sick children in Alder hey and this circus is distressing for them and their families! I’m not going to share the specifics of Theo’s icu journey, because that is our journey and not something I feel anyone else needs to know, but all I will say is we were all treated with the up most love, respect and dignity and we as parents always lead on decision-making about Theo’s care!

On this exact day 3 years ago, the very staff that are currently being spat at, receiving abusive phone calls and called murderers stayed on beyond their shifts and most of the night whilst they battled in theatre and saved Theo’s life! That very night they were all supposed to be going to one of the consultant cardiologists leaving do after work!!!! Not one single person went to that do, they stayed in theatre all night long working on my boy….. his surgeon then didn’t go home to his own family that night, he got his head down in the staff room for an hour before starting work again in the morning!”

    So……….

  • I Expect Top Care Off Staff Not My Boy Left Like This

When I leave my son in the care of the nursing staff I expect top quality care not my poor boy being left

I have just walked into my sons room and his nurse was over by his cot she realised I was behind her and scurried out only for me to see my son like this his leg twisted right behind him

For those who know my son Jacob know he can’t get himself like this because of his muscle tone it is impossible !!!!!!

He was diagnosed with dystonia 6 months ago which made him bend in half backwards however this is not dystonia as his whole body would do this if it was.

He has been out like this and left he was screaming in pain

Luckily my friend was with me to take photos as I sorted him out and comforted my distressed and in pain baby boy.

Not only did the nurse do this she also messed up his antibiotics and left a syringe attached to his tube instead of taking it away like she should.

Also a few weeks ago my friends walked In to Jacobs room to find a pillow over his face and his machine had been beeping for twenty minutes when they looked back on the review of the machine how can they be so incompetent

Yes I have been to pals yes I have spoken to the ward manager but this is not the first time something like this has happened or a fuck up on Jacobs meds, I wish I could be by his side every waking minute but that is not possible, I have no choice but to trust these trained staff but they are failing my son.

I am devastated he is a little boy who deserves the right care and no fucks ups.

    What else can I do?

To follow more of Jacob’s journey take a look of their Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/thelittleboywhostolemyheart/

  • My Son Had To Learn To Wee Again After Hospital Blunder

I took my son to the ER at Pouder Valley Hospital because he had a tummy ache around 3am so once I get there doctors asked basic questions then decide to get some blood & urine test, the doctor tells me ” I figure because he’s 2 yrs old he won’t pee in a Cup I will just order in a catheter” so as a parent I trust he knows what’s right for my son … I allowed a couple of nurses to come in and do the catheter, they tell me before “it’s a super fast procedure” so as I hold my son down and another nurse.. they proceeded to insert the catheter I noticed they began to struggle and then they decide to switch nurses and 2 other nurse enter .. (now my son Is Completely awake & in pain) so then I noticed the first nurse was being trained to insert her first catheter in a child 😡 & nobody informed me of this so then the 2nd nurse also couldn’t put it in so they decide to keep try & force it in this is where I should have stopped everything but they kept telling me “Almost got it ” .

My son is fighting them then the 4th nurse comes in and finally forces it in and gets the urine and send me home with no information of how this could affect him as soon as I get home my son just starts crying in pain screaming not peeing running jumping I call the hospital I tell them the symptoms they Tell me this is normal … So after a few hours I decided he is not okay and this is NOT normal I take him to the same ER they see he’s in Excruciating Pain & do an ultrasound and see he has a lot of urine and say it’s now an emergency to take the urine out so AGAIN attempt to insert a catheter 3 other Fail attempts I’m crying and holding my son while he’s begging them to stop I ask them to give him something he should not be going thru this awake he’s in so much pain so then a nurse tries to do an IV and also fails at it!

My Son Had To Learn To Wee Again After Hospital Blunder
My Son Had To Learn To Wee Again After Hospital Blunder

Then they decide to inject morphine in his thigh as she pulls out the needle she cuts his leg with it! I’m beyond pissed then say we need a professional to perform this he needs to empty his bladder and they can’t do it .

As I arrive to the Children’s hospital they call a urologist he comes in and says because of the traumatic entry of the catheter they blocked his valves to prevent him to urinate on his own the urologist put my son down and with no problems got a catheter in so for 3 days my son could only pee with a catheter connected to a bag .. now my son is home but it took a while for him to get the hang of peeing on his own the first 2 days he could only pee in a tub with warm water.

The hospital that did this just sent me an apology letter . For you New parents Don’t be afraid to say No and to try less traumatic procedures, try first all simple less painful options ask questions I learned the hard way as a first time parent I’m not sharing this for likes or attention but to simply save another child from this common mistake we make as parents .

  • Nurse chose to close the door to our room and not do anything, no doctor ever came

Jalena Gunther took to Facebook to tell others about the care her daughter received at The Stollery Children’s Hospital a 150 bed children’s hospital that opened in October 2001. It is a “hospital within a hospital,” being situated within the University of Alberta Hospital and co-located with Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute in the Walter C. Mackenzie Health Sciences Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Gunther said: I feel sick. The Stollery has failed my child. Emmy had open heart surgery 4 days ago. They hooked Emmys IV fluid up at 6pm last night. Emmy screamed in pain from 7pm till 4:45 am when she finally gave up and passed out. We asked for pain meds, we asked for a doctor at 8:45pm, and at 10pm we asked if the doctor was coming, we said we need something, this isn’t Emmy and isn’t ok.

The Nurse at the Stollery chose to close the door to our room and not do anything, no doctor ever came. Emmy was under close op care which requires the nurse to physically check her every 15 minutes. We were lucky if we seen the nurse 1-2 times an hour. Protocol requires IV’s to be checked every hour. Emmys was never checked. 3 different nurses came into Emmys room and all 3 missed it.

At shift change our new nurse came in to do her assessment around 8am. The nurse immediately found that’s Emmys IV went interstitial. She pulled it out immediately but the damage was severe. She is now in the OR having her hand cut open to relieve pressure, drain fluid and remove the dead skin.

Next week she will require another surgery to do a skin graft. This was 100% avoidable if the nurse did her job. Not only was protocol grossly neglected, there was zero empathy for a child crying and screaming in pain for hours. Her iv leaked into her hand for over 12 hours, causing extreme pain and severe damage. This is not ok. Since when did this become the world-class care the Stollery is known for?

Nurse chose to close the door to our room and not do anything, no doctor ever came

  • Employees Removed After Viral Post

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hospital employees have been removed from their post at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville after disturbing photos with newborns surfaced on social media Monday.

The viral post shared a photo from a Snapchat account, which showed the employee giving the middle finger to a newborn, followed by a caption that read “How I currently feel about these mini Satans.” The post also read the “navy nurse” and her friend made a baby dance to rap music.

Jeanne Casey, the Public Affairs Officer at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, released the following statement:

“We are aware of a video/ photo posted online.  It’s outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated.  We have identified the staff members involved.  They have been removed from patient care and they will be handled by the legal system and military justice.  We’re in the process of notifying the patient”s parents.”

The statement was also posted on the Naval Hospital Jacksonville Facebook page:
