  • Why Did My Body Fail Me

    #SeptemberisNICUawarenessmonth

To the new mom sitting in the NICU holding back her tears:

You did everything you could to have a healthy pregnancy but yet here you are…sitting across an isolette watching your baby breathe while all the monitors are going on and off behind you. You’re wondering what you did wrong and why your body failed you. You’re blaming yourself while trying to memorize and learn all the new medical terms that keep getting thrown at you.

Now you’re struggling to keep a good breastmilk supply because you’re body wasn’t ready to give birth yet-because you can’t breastfeed your baby yet-because you can’t do skin to skin as often-because the stress is affecting you so you gotta pump A LOT and chug down water around the clock. And trust me, you’re not gonna want to give up because this is the only thing you can provide for your baby that will help her thrive. Also, even though you don’t have your baby with you at night, you’re still not gonna be able to sleep. You will wake up wondering how she’s doing and you will call the NICU. Or if you’re anything like me, you will drive yourself to the hospital in the middle of the night.

You’re going to watch your baby fight for survival and you’re going to wish you could take all the pain away from her. You will also watch her reach milestones and they will fill you with pride and FAITH. You’re going to cry. You’re going to laugh. You’re going to get frustrated. You will also feel your heart sink every time you get a call from the NICU and you’re gonna deal with people telling you things like “you’re lucky you didn’t go through the third trimester,” and it’s gonna infuriate you. But don’t get mad at them, they don’t know the struggle of your heart. But I do, I know what it’s like to push through the physical and emotional pain. I know what it’s like to watch a little piece of your heart sleep inside a clear plastic box. But I can tell you one thing; you’re doing amazing. You’re a fighter just like your baby and you will persevere. I promise you that one day you will look back and realize how LUCKY you are for being the chosen one. God chose you to witness a miracle and He only did it because He knows how strong you are. Hang in there mamma, when you look into your baby’s eyes while heading home for the first time you’ll realize it was all worth it

  • Woman Fights To Escape Attacker And Survives

At about 7:15am Wednesday, I was walking my dog Berreta alone on our regular loop on the Platte River Trail, a short walk from my home. A man passed by me that I had recognized briefly from the day prior when I was walking with Billie.

He didn’t make eye contact with me and I got a very strange vibe. Somehow he made it on the other side of the loop, meaning he must’ve cut through the woods somewhere knowing where I was headed. The dog and I passed him and I said excuse me. About 30 seconds later I noticed him very close behind me. I saw he had a rope in his hands and at that point he was too close to try and put any distance between us.

He strangled me from behind and drug me into the woods about 15 feet off the trail where he removed almost all of my clothes. He continued to choke me using his hands, the rope, and with a bandana of some sort. I fought like hell and screamed my brains out, even my sweet dog tried to fight him and bite him as much as she could. He threatened to kill me, I believe to get me to stop screaming.

I thought that this could be the end but I was not about to give up fighting for my life. He hog tied me from my neck to my wrists, then to my ankles and told me he was going to let me go but he needed to find his glasses first. He searched for them multiple times and couldn’t find them, I begged him to let me help but he said he couldn’t trust me. I somehow managed to sit up and was able to reach the knot around my ankles and free myself.

I had no choice at that point but to run for my life as fast as I could, unfortunately without my dog. I made it to the bike path almost completely naked screaming for help. I’m so thankful there were people around that ultimately were able to protect me. A man on a bike chased him down and was able to restrain him until police arrived. HE IS IN CUSTODY.

He is a registered sex offender and has multiple warrants out for his arrest, the detectives are very confident he won’t be seeing light of day for a very very long time, if not ever. Later I was able to find Berreta, so she is also safe at home.

This was the worst day of my life but I knew I had to fight, it simply wasn’t my time to die. I love you all for all of the support and am feeling better today. I still feel like I got hit by a freight train but I am lucky to be in good hands today with my family and friends.

I am putting this post up to remind each and every one of you, please be aware of your surroundings at all times. Even if you have been on your local path, your grocery store parking lot, or anywhere 100 times, danger can exist anywhere. I am lucky to be alive, so please have a plan in place to protect yourself from whatever may be out there. Be safe out there, lots of love from me!

  • Do You Work With Any Of These?

    The worst types of colleagues:

In every work place you will have at least one of these colleagues and if you don’t your probably one of them.

    THE FAFFER
The faffer always seems busy but hardly achieves anything, always running around doing things that don’t need doing.

    THE WANNABE BOSS.
You know the type the power crazy person, who likes to tell everyone what to do but actually has no authority

     THE GOSSIPER
I hate the gossiper, you can’t keep anything secret for long around this one, and if they have no juic gossip they will make it up.

    THE CLASSIC BICH
You know the type, the one who is nice to your face but back stabs you at every available moment, and like wise your other colleagues.

    THE BLAMER
This person always messes up but my God it’s never their fault, they constantly pass the blame onto someone else.

    THE MESS.
The colleague who turns up late, forgets things they require to do their job and then leaves early.

THE HOW THE HELL YOU STILL WORK HERE.
This one does sweet FA, constantly lazy, never helps, but some how gets away with it, like seriously get off your arse and help.

    THE SICK NOTE

Yeah we all get ill, some worse than others, but this one will take a day off because their cousins dogs got worms.

    THE LUCKY BREAK
This goes to seniors, managers etc… ones who landed in a job they just aren’t cut out for.                                                                                        They hate you as you know the job better than they do!!

    THE HAPPY ONE
Ok maybe they shouldn’t be on the worst types of colleagues list, but how can you be so damn happy to be at work, I’m angry that you’re happy here, it’s like hell on Earth.
