  • IUD Contraception Nearly Killed Me Woman Beware

Sometimes things happens in your life and you don’t know why. You question yourself why me or what did I do to deserve this? But what you should be asking is what can I learn from it.

I’m finally coming out to tell my story because I feel like I can help someone. I’m not here for people opinions but to simply tell my story.

Six weeks after I had my daughter I was offered by the doctors a form of birth control called the IUD. I accepted because I was told that it was safe and it was he best type. It had never gave me any problems up until November of 2017. I had it for 3 years so far. I was told that it is good for 5 years.

I went to my yearly check up in October and I was asked about birth control and I told that I had an IUD. They checked and told me that they couldn’t find an IUD and that it may have fallen out but I knew for a fact that wasnt the case.

They sent me to get two types of ultrasounds the same day and I was told once again that they didn’t see an IUD.

One day in the beginning of November I was at work I had a sharp pain and the bottom right of my stomach and the first thing that popped in my head was is this that IUD? But I tried to brush it off but the pain was getting worse. I left work 3 hours early to go to the hospital.

I went to the hospital and I told them what was going on and what the doctors was telling me so they immediately sent me to get an X-ray done. The doctor came in the with a weird look on her face and said the IUD is definitely in there but it’s pushed up in your stomach so you will have to get surgery.

She told me to call my OBGYN to schedule a date. I went and talked to my OBGYN, told him everything that was going on and even showed him the X-ray picture that they allowed me to take. So he also said I have to get surgery.

I asked him how would they would get it out and he told me they would cut me right under my belly button and use a scope. On December 13th I went in to get the procedure done. Instead of 1 , I was cut 3 times. One under my belly button and one on each of my side. They were able to get it out but it was broken into pieces. I was told that it had moved up to my liver.

When I left the hospital I was bleeding but my mom was told that it was normal. Over night I begin to bleed heavier and the pain got worse. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and once I got to the hospital my mom told the doctors everything that was going on.

They rushed me to x-rays done and then rushed me to surgery. I was bleeding internally. After the surgery my mom was told that when they open me up, my ovaries was black and that they had to give me a hysterectomy.

After the surgery I went into septic shock causing me to be in ICU for a few weeks. I died on that surgery table. While in ICU my organ began to fail. I was on a breathing machine, I was on dialysis cause my kidneys wasnt working right.

Everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. My parents were told that I was the worst patient on the floor and that they didn’t think I was going to make it. But with faith and God the prayers that everyone sent out, I am here today. Next week I have to get myself prepare again for a second surgery to get my toes amputated but I swear I came so far and im not letting anything stop me.

  • In Sickness and In Health a Real Life Love Story

Having a partner with lifelong illnesses and learning to cope.

Bit of background for you. Me and my partner Charlie met when we were at school and began going out at 15 years old. We grew up together and shared the same memories which is so special. We now have our son who is 8 months old, who despite all odds blessed us coming into this world.

I was living at Charlies parents with him while working as a business administrator for the NHS saving up to move out. Charlie began looking gaunt and tired all the time, but he’s such a closed book I assumed he was just tired from work. I noticed he kept spending an awful lot of time in the toilet daily and seemed exhausted when he came out. One night after dinner he told me ‘Hannah don’t be alarmed but every time I go to the toilet I’m bleeding a lot.’ I knew he was ill and I phoned 111 who told me to take him straight to A&E. I thought maybe it was a stomach bug. What I thought would be a couple of hours turned into weeks. Charlie was admitted and needed an IV drip as he was dehydrated. They done multiple scans, MRI’s, colonoscopy’s, blood tests and examinations on him. He began turning yellow while in hospital which scared me. Eventually consultants sat down with us and explained what was going on. Charlie was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called PSC (Primary sclerosing Cholangitis) and also autoimmune hepatitis of the liver. They said his liver was very scarred. As If that wasn’t enough to take in we were told he had ulcerative colitis (Bowel disease) and his bowel was extremely inflamed. They were going to take his bowel out while he was in hospital but because its such a big operation decided to try get the inflammation down with steroids, injections and medication. Once Charlie was discharged he was still extremely ill and ended up losing his job. I was unable to continue working when he needed me to help him. He was seen multiple times a week and needed help administering his injections. He then developed osteoporosis (bone disease) from the vast amount of medication. He was brittle, frail and relied on a walking stick to get him everywhere. He was only 19 years old.

This was a lot for me to take in, but not once did it ever cross my mind that it would be too much for me. After many hospital appointments and blood tests frequently we were told his illnesses would never get better and in the future a liver transplant will be needed, along with a bowel removal in the future when it gets too bad. We were told his life expectancy will be shortened and having children wouldn’t happen naturally due to all the medications he was on.

We decided that we wanted to have children young, because every day we learnt to embrace because we didn’t know what the future would hold. I developed PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome) so along with Charlie’s problems it was extremely hard to conceive. We got there in the end 2 years later and welcomed our son into the world. Our son gives Charlie a purpose in life to fulfil his life. He’s an amazing dad.
