  • I’m The Mum Who Sits Alone At Play Places

I’m the mom who sits alone at play places, but doesn’t want to. But anxiety makes me that way.

I’m the mom who won’t come up and talk to you first at our kids school, because my brain has convinced me that you don’t want to hear from me.

I’m the mom that sits by myself while my kids play at play places, listening to other moms talk. Agreeing with what they’re saying, even wanting to join in on the conversation. But I won’t. Because my brain tells me you don’t want me to. Or what I would say, would be weird to you.

I’m the mom who when my child asks me to talk to their friends mom at school, so they can have a play date, I will make excuses as to why I can’t.

I’m the mom who want to go out more way more with my four year old, but my fear of him having a tantrum that I can’t control, takes over.

I’m the mom who wants to be the PAC mom at school, who is friends with all the other moms. But I can barely muster up a “hello good morning!” to you.

I’m the mom who wants to volunteer in my kids class for hot lunch day, for field trips, and all that fun stuff. But my mind reminds me about the room full of strangers I would have to introduce myself to.

    I’m the mom who’s trying.

    I’m the mom with anxiety.

  • I Sucked Ass At Being A Mum Today

I sucked ass at being a mom today. Some days, I feel like I’m not doing a good job at this mom thing. Because it’s so fucking hard. I know, I know, it’s always worth it, and I love my kids. But man, when did it get so hard?

Today I yelled too much at them, they watched too much tv, I fed them pasta, which they glazed over, picking out most of the nutrients.

I yelled at them to stop yelling (funny huh?), I told my son to stop calling his sister “poopy head” at least thirty times today. Something I never thought I would be doing. ⁣

As I write this caption, I am sitting on my bedroom floor. Hiding. Trying to get a moment of silence. It’s so hard some days. And I know I’m not alone.

There’s no “silver lining” to this post.

Being a mom is fucking hard.

    That’s all.

Everyday, I tell myself “tomorrow! Tomorrow will be the day I don’t yell. Tomorrow will be the day I talk calmly all day to them. Tomorrow will be the day they won’t fight with each other. Tomorrow. Tomorrow will be better. Easier.” ⁣

And whenever I lay them down to bed at night, I look at those beautiful souls I created and think “how could I ever be so mad at them?” It’s a routine I have had for the past few years now.

Being a mom is fucking hard. And I suck at it a lot of the time. But that’s okay, because I’m trying my best to raise good, kind, decent, loving human beings, in a world so cold. ⁣

There’s no way that’s going to be easy.

Keep going mama, we got this. Even if we fucking suck some times.

  • It’s Okay To Find Your Kids Annoying

I was at the grocery today with the kids when I probably said a little too loudly, NOT in my nice mom voice, “You know I love you very much, but you’re REALLY annoying me today.”

Right then a young couple walked by, presumably with no kids because the man uttered, “Well that was brutally honest.”

To which I replied with a sickening sweet smile, “Well they ARE being brutally annoying.”

And of course a lovely elderly woman strolled by and chimed in, “They grow up fast…you’re going to miss this someday.”

Really? REALLY? You think I’m going to miss being tortured by two kids in a grocery store someday?

After they fought alllllll morning and had their water guns thrown away because they wouldn’t stop shooting each other in the eyes. Not to mention one was grounded for an hour, and I had to rip them apart not once, but twice prior to the produce aisle because they couldn’t keep their hands off of each other!

I promise, I won’t miss THIS part of motherhood. And I really think people need to be a little more supportive and a little less critical of mothers, especially in stores.

Of course we love them, they are hilarious, sweet, loving, adorable, and fun to be around. But sometimes they act like a**hats and we lose it. And it’s OK to not love every part of motherhood.

It’s OK to not want to read that same book again tonight.

It’s OK to lock yourself in your room and binge watch The Great British Baking Show.

It’s OK to run out after the grocery store and leave your kids with your husband because you need an hour of alone tome at the nail salon.

And it’s totally OK to tell your kids they’re being annoying in Public when you’ve already broken up 19 fights before you got to the store, and they are STILL wrestling like bear cubs while you’re trying to shuck corn!

What’s not OK is to judge another mother or say something to her that isn’t helpful – when she’s clearly at the end of her rope.

So if you see someone like me someday in public and think, “She’s really on edge.” Maybe, I don’t know…offer her encouragement. 🤷‍♀️

Like, “You’re doing a great job mama!” 👊🏼

But please spare us the side eyes, glares and snide comments. We are doing the best we can – and sometimes kids need a dose of reality from the person that loves them the fiercest.

Also my gel manicure was lovely and now I’m ready to go home and snuggle.

As long as they still aren’t being annoying.

  • Find Yourself Just One True Friend

Find yourself a friend who will go to Costco with you on a Tuesday morning because errands and food samples are better together.

Find yourself a friend who FaceTimes and texts even when she moves away.

Find yourself a friend who will spend a day at the beach with you even though it means chaos and sand and poopy swim diapers and 700 meltdowns.

Find yourself a friend who’s in it for the long haul.

Find yourself a friend who thinks sitting on the living room floor with $1.00 Diet Cokes from McDonalds is a good time.

Find yourself a friend who will laugh with you and at you too because we all need to not take life too seriously.

Find yourself a friend who can hold a conversation between crying, spilled drinks, sticky hands, and potty training accidents.

Find yourself a friend who you can trust with the your most sacred secrets and hardest struggles and who is a safe place for an ugly cry.

Find yourself a friend that cheers for you with her whole heart.

Find yourself a friend you don’t ever have to impress (not even by putting on a bra when she stops by).

Find yourself a friend who will do life with you. Even when life means playgrounds and Target trips and kid’s meals and tantrums.

Find yourself that friend, and be that friend too.

  • This Is Such A Hard Thing To Do

This is such a hard thing to do. To publically air my “dirty laundry”. But today I sat in a court room, waiting to hear how long the father of my 1 year old child would get for ABH. ABH, because no bones were broken (unbelievable) he used the excuse he had too much to drink, even though there were other times and he was sober. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison, but due to our legal system and reductions he’s apparently “entitled” to , on good behaviour he will be out in just 6 months and this for me just isn’t good enough.

This isn’t a pity post, I already feel stronger than I have ever felt but I will not be silenced by this man another second of my life and I honestly couldn’t forgive myself if he ever did this to someone else (he has history and previously assaulted his ex girlfriend) . He is the most manipulative , controlling, possesive person. And in just 6 months time he could be walking the streets looking for his next target.

This Is Such A Hard Thing To Do

And please, If you are with someone who is controlling you, making you feel scared, trying to stop you having friends or working. I know it’s hard but LEAVE. Take the kids, leave the material stuff. So many times I wanted to go and tell someone what was going on. But I realise now there is so much help out there. Tell someone. Anyone. My two children could have ended up losing their mother.

  • I Hate Parent Groups At School

Parent waiting areas outside schools are the same all over the UK. Various gangs who all occupy their own specific piece of territory.

THE ACTIVEWEARERS: Half of these ladies haven’t even been for a workout today – they just need the world to know that they are generally more active than you. Buttocks that are bigger, harder and rounder than Katie Price’s tits aren’t enough of a giveaway apparently.

THE PACKHORSES: These people seem to leave the premises carrying more stuff than your average house move, while their kids hop and skip along carrying a mere twig that they found earlier which has an incredible amount of artistic value.

THE WHISPERERS: Everyone knows these twats. The ones who smile at you, wait for you to walk past, and then start talking very quietly about how you’re obviously not getting any at the moment because you’ve not had your hair done properly since the end of the last Gulf War. Fuck off.

THE MOBILE SCREAMERS: They arrive while screaming into their phone, they collect their kids while screaming into the phone, they leave while screaming into the phone. What the hell are they even talking about anyway? Probably crap phone battery life.

THE COLLECT AND DASHERS: They desperately try to collect their children without making eye contact with the staff because they know that they will be asked to stay behind for a minute and discuss an earlier incident where their child tried to drop kick someone two years younger. This is of course if they haven’t already had a phone call about the resulting bumped head.

THE ‘LONERS’: They stand by themselves, pick up their kids, and then leave without any sort of fuss – usually because they are desperate to not get sucked into any of the other gangs above. It’s worse than The Bronx, and nobody wants a cap in their ass over a missing party invite.
