    I am the mom listens to others tell me it’s a discipline issue, he will grow out of it, he’s just a boy while invisibly rolling my eyes into the back of my head….because they have no idea what they are talking about

    I am the mom who walks into school and signs another behavior slip like it’s just another day

    I am the mom who spends her school pick time rummaging through the lost and found because he forgot his jacket on the playground…..again

    I am the mom who has to leave work abruptly because “he can’t stay here today”

    I am the mom who spends hours in school conferences with teachers, counselors and administrators

    I am the mom who gets home and cuddles up with him on the couch

    I am the mom who holds him when he is having a bad day

    I am the mom who wonders what is going on in that little head of his

    I am the mom whose heart is pained by what he goes through on a daily basis

    I am the mom who lays down with him at night and tells him what a good boy he is and how perfect and loved he is

    I am the mom who watches him sleep so calm and sweet and wishes his days could be equally as peaceful

    I am the mom who begs and prays for him to just have a happy, easy, enjoyable life

    I am the mom who wakes up and does it all over again….for him…because I know his greatness and I know his heart and I understand him and will love him though it all. He is my baby and I will fight for him until my last breath.

  • Here’s Why Babies Need Tummy Time

    Babies NEED tummy time!

    At 11 months old, this little cutie should have a nicely rounded head, developed S curves in his neck and low back, and flexible legs that move in and out of various sitting positions.

    But, largely due to lack of time on his tummy and OVERUSE of “baby containers” such as bouncy seats, swings, and car seat carriers that go from car to grocery store to restaurant, he has positional plagiocephaly (flat skull) a big ol’ C curve in his spine preventing him from getting on hands and knees to crawl, and hips and legs so tight he can’t even straighten his knees! And these are only the outwardly visible problems…too much pressure on baby’s spine and vision centers of the brain from lying on their backs are detrimental to development! So….tummy time, tummy time, tummy time! Do it!

    ADDITIONAL INSIGHT:

    Tummy time IS absolutely important for development! It doesn’t have to be on the floor, but can be on the caregiver’s chest, supported over their lap or bent knees, or on a nursing pillow for younger babies. Many of the comments we’ve read are stating babies shouldn’t be placed in “unnatural” positions or those they can get out of. As developmental therapists, we specialize in the timeline of babies moving from the flexion posture (fetal position) through anti-gravity extension.

    The ONLY “natural” position for a baby is flexion. If you lay an infant on their back, i.e. In extension their arms flail and they think they’re falling (this is the Moro reflex) and is why we swaddle babies to keep their arms and legs tucked in close like they were in the womb. The flexion tummy time provides is in fact very safe and natural. We urge you to find a specialist in your area if your baby struggles with reflux and isn’t tolerating tummy time that can help develop strategies that will promote being off of their backs.

    AGAIN, this post is directed to parents and caregivers of babies who are typically developing and not those with special needs or other medical diagnoses. The baby in the picture fits this description. It is not meant to be judgmental but informative on what CAN happen. We are so pleased that it has opened up conversation between parents and health care providers to help prevent these issues from occurring.

  • Ear Infections Can Be Deadly Look Out For These Signs

    Amber Ella is trying to raise awareness about ear infections

    Most people are unaware of this danger

    He had a basic ear infection

    Went and seen family dr and got antibiotics

    Later that night his head behind the ear got a little red and swollen I called the dr he said that sometimes this can happen just let the meds work their way in call him in a couple of days..

    I just kept thinking oh my he just don’t look right so I took him to the hospital and with in 1 hour he was put out and a ctt scan was done and I was told he had mastoiditis

    An infection that grows into the back of the ear bone

    Which then goes deeper into the head

    If not caught and cared for in time

    Can cause meningitis….

    Loss of hearing completely….

    Brain abscess….

    Or can lead to death

    So please when your kids say their ear hurts always look for the signs

    Swelling behind the ear…

    Redness

    And ear sticking out

    If I would have waited my life could have been changed forever but thankfully I went with my instincts and went to the hospital

    They had to cut his eardrums and drain fluid ….put tubes in his ears…

    The cut behind the ear is where they had to drill in to release fluid and infection …

    Very painful operation

    Thank god for instincts

    And they were top to bottom of the ear.

    Mastoiditis is the result of an infection that extends to the air cells of the skull behind the ear. Specifically, it is an inflammation of the mucosal lining of the mastoid antrum and mastoid air cell system inside the mastoid process

  • Even A Small Bump On The Head Can Be Serious

    Paige Ferguson has taken to Facebook to warn others to ensure they take any head trauma so seek medical attention if unsure.

    Ferguson said: I have really been contemplating posting this. But, I need Colton to be an advocate. I need people to realize the seriousness of a head injury. This started from him falling from a bed that is only 2ft off the ground. He had a bump on his head. A bump. He was crying, acting alert and at one point even smiled.

    Because we are paranoid parents, we decided to get him evaluated. We thought for sure they were going to say he hit his head, has a bump, and he will be fine. Not the case…He fractured his skull and bled half of his entire blood volume into his brain. I’m going to be blunt here…Colton may not live. Colton may live and never walk or talk, Colton may be fine, Colton may be delayed. Its up in the air right now and he is still fighting for his life because we are not out of the woods. This is a nightmare.

    I don’t want other parents going through this…i dont want any kid to go through this. Please take any hit to the head seriously. I cant say this enough. My heart is broken. Our child is laying in front of us yet we miss him so terribly. I need you to hear me…get your kids checked out! Please. The old tale of “if the bump is outward you’re safe.” is NOT true.

    Please continue to pray for him. I am trying to thank everyone but, because there are so many of you amazing people, its hard. I love and appreciate all of you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • The Toy That Is Hurting Children And Stressing Out Parents

    Well Christmas has been and gone and children are finally getting a chance to spend quality time playing.

    Some of the presents have already broken, some are yet to be opened but one toy is causing multiple parents nothing but pain and misery and even hurting children.

    How could a seemingly innocent toy do this? Well it’s not the endless annoying sounds of a child’s toy, or the messy playdoh staining carpets or a nerf gun or even treding n the dreaded lego.

    It’s the seemingly innocent looking bunchems.

    Bunchems are a building toy, Squish, Connect and Create with Bunchems! The colourful little balls that stick to each other and build like no other that’s what the advertisements say.

    But what are they really?

    They are evil little hair destroyers, they stick in pets hair, and little boys and girls hair.

    Mums advice spoke with a Colchester hair dresser and she said she has seen 3 distraught parents with Bunchems stuck in their child’s hair.

    Parents are asking for a warning to be placed on the box and warning others to ensure their child’s hair is tied back or to accidentally throw them away when their child isn’t looking.

    One mum even had their child bleeding due to bunchems, her daughter had snuck them out of the play cupboard whilst her mum was on the phone.

    The little girl had then got them stuck in her hair and was scared to tell her mum and get in trouble and tried to pull them out herself, she pulled so hard she made her head bleed.

    Luckily no serious damage was done and the little girl didn’t get Into trouble just advised not to hide things like this and to let a grown up know.
