  • This Is The Exact Moment I Realized

” of all the photos I posted from my daughter Malia,

This one makes me more emotional because it shows the second exact I realized she had down syndrome.

The moment he was born and cleaned it, I asked: ” has down syndrome?”

Nobody heard me, so I asked: ”

    It’s all right?”.

I felt guilty that these were my first words, even without someone hearing them.

When they put it on my chest the first time, I took this picture and entered a kind of limbo.

I wasn’t ashamed in any way… but the photo was somehow, I don’t know what word to use… revealing? A Confirmation?

Every time I wanted to post a picture of her, I was back to see this first picture.

I thought the world out there wasn’t going to answer as I wanted. But I love this photo more than anyone can imagine.

The reason I’m finally posting it now is that if there’s someone out there who listens to this diagnosis, before or after birth, I want you to know that everything is fine. Maybe not at first, maybe not for a while, but everything will be fine.

Among all the parents who could have had, his baby chose you “.

  • Am I Alone For Not Loving My Child?

This is VERY personal, so please don’t judge me for this or leave negative comments. My 2nd son was born with down syndrome, 3 tiny holes in his heart and IA.

We were expecting a healthy, normal baby. I was heartbroken. The second I saw him, I just *knew* something was wrong. But I couldn’t place it. I thought it was impossible for me to have a child with down syndrome, as I thought it was genetic. No ultrasounds detected anything wrong. 😞 T

he cord was wrapped around his neck twice at birth so he had to be put on 24/7 oxygen and a pulse oximeter. We stayed in the NICU with him for a month before he was released to go home. Once we were home, I was still so devastated. I had 2 under the age of 2. I was also by myself for 12+ hours a day with a fragile newborn (who was eating every 4 hours and connected to tons of wires) and a just turned 1 year old.

I had a mental breakdown. I couldn’t handle it. I felt no love for my 2nd son. I didn’t feel hate, but betrayal (by God) and hurt.

I couldn’t find it in myself to love this little baby boy, no matter how much I tried. It made me feel like a horrible mother. 😭 Why couldn’t I love this precious gift from God!? Who had already smiled at me when he was only 2 weeks! I hated myself.

My 2nd son ended up being taken out of my care. He now lives with a relative of his. He is a little over a year old. I see him when I’m able, I’ve seen him 4 times since he was taken out of my care. He lives about 4/5 hours away. I wish I could say my feelings about him have changed. I wish I could say I want to have him with me and his brother (my 1st son). I’ve struggled with mental illness since I was a child. I am on medication and seeing a psychiatrist/psychologist. Has anyone else struggled with anything remotely like this? I just want to know that I’m not alone. I never once felt this was with my first son. My love for him was instant. He looked just like me when I was a baby. I still love him more than anything in the world. Please don’t think I’m a terrible person. 😭🥺

  • To The Ignorant Woman On The Bus

To the ignorant woman on the bus today … Hi my name is Joey and I have Down Syndrome, sometimes I can be a little bit loud and don’t always like waiting but I am a very lovely happy little man 😁

We don’t usually get the bus so I was a little bit excited I didn’t like waiting I just wanted to get on any bus but mum said we had to wait for the right one so whilst we were waiting I played with my iPad when the bus finally came I was so excited and wanted to get on it straight away but we had to let all the other people on and wait our turn …you were in front of us and told me to shut up then you laughed and told my mum that I might listen to you.

Mum was pretty uncomfortable as I wasn’t being naughty just a little loud but I can’t help it … you then stood in front of us and had a conversation with a gentleman getting off the bus and made us wait even longer all I wanted was to get on the bus .. mum thought you were rude but never said anything as she is too polite … you finally moved and we got on the bus at last.

I was so excited I choose to sit on the seat behind you .. mum parked up my buggy and sat on the seat behind me .. I was so excited waiting for the bus to start I touched your black wooly hat with a Pom Pom on (I didn’t pull it like just touched it u see sometimes I just can’t resist I often touch most things I see) u looked at me then stood up and leant to two ladies sat in front of you and said loudly “is he Down syndrome.

I couldn’t do with that” the poor lady nodded (she was mortified by the way) then you sat down .. mum said to you that you should ask her if you had a question and she will happily answer but you ignored her … I am Joey I have Down syndrome I am not Down syndrome … my family love me just the way I am and today I had a lovely ride on the bus and cake and hot chocolate in Costa …. mum says you should learn some manners by the way

  • When I Placed My Order I Said Regular Amount Of Chromosomes Please

When I placed my order I said, “Regular amount of chromosomes, please!” That’s what everyone else got and what I wanted too. They called me shortly after my order was in production and said “Great news, we went ahead and upgraded you to extra chromosomes for free!

You’ll receive the extra chromosomes with your completed order in 9 months.” What?! I was mad! All the other orders I had seen displayed via perfect Instagram posts did NOT have extra chromosomes. Well I decided that receiving my order with extra chromosomes was better than not receiving an order at all, so I settled in to wait for this surprise upgrade to arrive.

I have now had my order for two months and am writing this review to let others know the upgrade to extra chromosomes is amazing!! If offered, definitely take it! I posted some photos below of the finished product and you can see the extra chromosome is so worth it – it is extra cute, extra special, and extra-ordinary! So much extra joy. Would purchase again for sure 😬 💛💙💛💙#sweetgwendolyn #t21 #theluckyfew #upsyndrome #extrachromosome #nothingdownaboutit

  • Washing Machine Mum At It Again

Footage  emerged a few years ago of the mum who posted her beautiful Down syndrome son locked in a washing machine.

The poor boy was locked in

Courtney Stewart was filmed roughly dragging and throwing  her infant son on a children’s bouncy castle.

When the photo of her son in the washing machine went viral she defended her actions saying it was just a photo opportunity.

This footage however shows another side of her and makes her story even more worrying.

Social services investigated her and did say her children were well cared for and safe.

Courtney appeared on television and defended her actions, saying her son was laughing and happy in the video.
