  • Yogurt Bites Can Be Deadly

    We had a big scare at our house yesterday. After Aliyah’s nap I put her in her high chair for her snack. I gave her a yogurt bite and turned to clean some bottles in the sink.

    Checked on her. The first yogurt bite was gone so I gave her another. Turned my back to put away some dishes and when I turned back around (maybe 30 seconds later) her face was beet red and she was gagging. I screamed for brian while taking her out of the high chair.

    As he called 911 I turned her face down and began smacking her back. It seemed like forever before she began expelling the lodged yogurt bites. What came out was globs of sticky and gooey yogurt bites with a consistency and feel just like elmers glue. (See picture)


    Thank goodness for the quick response of the Fire Dept, Ambulance and police. (Yes, all three showed up) They were all wonderful and reassured us that we did everything right, but I had a melt down in the ambulance. The EMT said that yogurt bites are not a safe snack as they don’t really melt away as advertised. Instead they turn to goo.

    The problem is that small children are not capable of clearing their throat, so when the goo gets caught, they can’t swallow it or expel it on their own and when they try to breath the slime goes into the airway.
    Please let this be a warning to all parents and grandparents. I’m not saying that yogurt bites should be taken off the market. I’m just putting this out there so everyone is aware. It will be a long time before we try them again. 😬
    ***Yogurt bites are recommended for crawlers. Aliyah is a crawler. I do believe that recommendation should be changed to walker. AND LET THIS BE A HARD LESSON….DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK ON A CHILD WHO IS EATING ANYTHING!! I’ve learned my lesson. 😥

  • Child Dies From Holding In Vomit

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION

    A 16 year old boy recently died. He and his brother were sleeping in the same room. Late night he got up to vomit. His brother said he held his hand to his mouth and went to the bathroom. After vomiting, he complained of difficulty in breathing. Later died.

    Now it has been declared by Doctor that he held on to his vomit till he reached the toilet in order to not to spoil the bed or carpet, and that’s what choked him. The vomit went straight into his wind pipe & the breathing tract. …..

    So, we should let kids puke wherever they want, and then go to the bathroom. We should never force them to hold on to their vomit till they reach the bathroom.

    The carpet can always be washed, but we cannot get a child back.

  • Would You Know What Do If Your Baby Was Choking

    Yesterday we experienced every parents worst nightmare!!!!

    While it’s still raw, I need to share my story to everyone with babies/children just so people know how quickly a child can choke & stop breathing etc in a matter of seconds/minutes.

    Theo nearly died yesterday 😭 because he choked on some food (uk guideline correctly sized finger foods of egg mayo sandwich soldiers & soft melon sticks)

    He has eaten this so many times before. Melon & anything on bread are some of his favourite foods.

    The reason I am telling you is because most of you know how Theo is such an incredible eater & I always had the attitude “It will never happen to me because I’m so careful” I Always sit with him when he eats, I always chopped his foods into “non choking small sizes”.

    I am always so careful, Yet it still happened & We nearly lost our baby.

    I was sat next to him while he was eating in his high chair when i accidentally kicked my coffee over. (I think at that moment I must have startled him while he had food in his mouth 😭)

    You know what it’s like when a drink spills, you naturally jump out your seat & leg it to the kitchen for some kitchen roll or tea towels etc. It took me seconds to run to the kitchen & back.

    I chucked down 5 squares of kitchen roll & that’s all it took time wise. I took my eyes off him for Seconds!!!!!

    I heard a muffled sound, I looked over at Theo to find him slumped to the side of his high chair, blue lips & eyes rolled to the back of his head, having a seizure.

    Some people don’t know the difference between gagging & choking and think they need to listen for a cough to know their baby is chocking.

    THERE WAS NO COUGH TO WARN ME!!!!

    Because there was absolutely no air going in or out!!!!

    He stopped breathing & his whole body went so blue & lifeless he looked dead 😭 An image that just keeps flashing back over & over in my head, that feeling of complete terror as my heart was ripping into a million pieces as I thought I was going to have to say goodbye to the most precious little soul in my life 💔 a moment I’m not sure I will ever get over.

    If it wasn’t for the fact me & Jamie knew first aid & knew to keep going with back blows & chest thrusts until he could breathe . And most importantly called for an ambulance immediately at the start, while I was doing the back blows etc, Jamie was on the phone. I think one more minute & he would have died 😭

    The moment I felt his little body give up, followed by blood coming out his mouth was the moment we both completely lost our shit with panic. I think the whole road could hear our desperate screams. Reality kicked in that we could lose him, because nothing was working.

    But amazingly we managed to get him back after jamie blew a hard, quick breath into his mouth, that must have dislodged whatever it was.

    HE TOOK HIS FIRST BREATH 🙌🏽 after what felt like forever trying to stop him choking. After a few more breaths, He came round all disoriented at first & just wanted to cuddle. Phew….

    But Panic wasn’t over 😫 5 minutes later he had another seizure I’m guessing from lack of oxygen. (Both thinking here we go again, screaming at the operator on the phone, begging her to help us)

    I had to Put him into the recovery position on the floor & had to sit next to him helplessly while he went in & out on consciousness until the ambulance arrived with some oxygen.

    We were taken to hospital & after lots of checks he was so incredibly brave & strong he was sent home later that same night.

    The photo is of him totally exhausted having a lovely snooze in daddy’s arms, having his final check before we went home.💙

    This isn’t an attention message in any way, because he is absolutely fine now!

    it’s purely to make people aware of how easily something like this can happen.

    And please please please do not have that same attitude I did that “it won’t happend to me because I’m so careful”

    It doesn’t matter how careful you are, accidents still happen & this happened in a matter of seconds!!!!

    If your baby was to choke & stop breathing would you honestly hand on heart know what to do???

    Because if you don’t….

    I can honestly say through all the panic & upset that our slight memory of first aid helped us save our baby’s life.

    Our story could have been so different but

    We feel so incredibly lucky that he is still alive! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

    There must have been a guardian angel watching over us yesterday 💕😇

  • Serious Warning About The Dangers Of Popcorn

    Now that I’ve had a chance to sit and reflect on a very unfortunate but eye-opening event that our family encountered. I wanted to share our experience because as I’ve shared the story so many people were shocked and unaware of the bad effect popcorn can have on a toddler. Last Saturday night we were all watching a movie and eating popcorn which is a very frequent event on the weekend in our home. I didn’t think twice to give Nash popcorn. Nash had small choking episode but was fine. We didn’t see anything come out so we assumed he swallowed it.

    He seemed completely fine and continued to watch the movie. The only thing we observed was a cough he developed after the episode. The next day he was fine but still had a weird sounding cough which concerned me a little. I just assumed he was catching the same crud we had all been going through. Monday came, Jake left for a 3 day trip and it was pretty much the same as the day prior. As the evening came I noticed Nash felt warm and he was super fussy. He had a fever, so I gave him Motrin and put him to bed. A very long night with him and then his breathing looked a little labored to me and he just didn’t feel good. I called my pediatrician immediately and said Nash needs to be seen ASAP.

    We went in and got sent to children’s main campus immediately. After a chest X-ray the dr didn’t like what he saw so he got scheduled that evening for a Bronchoscopy. Thankful for the wonderful company we work for, they got Jake on a plane and back to Denver. At 6pm they put Nash under and performed the procedure. I paced and cried the entire time my little man was in surgery. Jake arrived at the hospital just in time to go to recovery and see nash. He had aspirated popcorn into his lungs when he choked.

    The body recognized it as a foreign object and put puss pockets around it. All the inflammation caused him to develop pneumonia in his left lung. During the procedure the dr got out 6 pieces. There was so much inflammation so the dr wasn’t 💯 he got it all so scheduled him to be admitted and repeat the procedure in 2 days. It was a an up and down roller coaster but we were in the best care. The second procedure was done and once again poor guy had to be put under and rolled off to surgery. The dr met us when it was over and said procedure was successful and he got the last piece out. Nash was a rockstar and recovered well. He had to go one hour on room air oxygen with out his o2 dropping under 90. He passed and we were discharged that evening.

    If I wouldn’t have trusted my instinct and brought him in, the outcome wouldn’t have been good.

    We’re so thankful our little man came out ok. All of this over popcorn which is eaten on a regular basis in our home.

    I got a lecture of course on how popcorn isn’t supposed to be given to anyone under 5. I hate to use the excuse he’s our third child so I overlook and don’t pay as close attention to the do’s and dont’s as we did with our first.

    Please no negative judgment on this post, I wrote it as an eye opener for people to see how something that you think is fine can quickly turn into something bad! Always trust your gut because it’s right!! I want to thank all who stepped in to help, whether it was taking our girls for a night, or letting our dog out. The constant phone calls and texts to check on us meant a lot. We have a lot of special people in our life.

  • Halloween Sweets, Warning To Parents

    This post is not for attention it’s for safety!!!!

    I Didn’t really want to put this on Facebook or other media outlets but after what I went through today I never want any parent to ever have to go through what I did , you think giving your child a lollipop is ok you don’t really second think it, well please do!! tonight my wee ariah was eating a lollipop minding her own business sitting watching tv and in a second she got of the couch and flung herself to the floor and luckily I saw what was happening in so much silence.

    She was struggling to breathe her skin colour started to change! this lollipop had come off of the stick and got stuck in the back of her throat and for about 3/4minutes I had the worst thoughts going round in my head, luckily I got the lolly free but please do not give your child these lollipops! Wee ariah is on 24hr call for look out for ABC,

    It is advised to always supervise children when they are eating anything, always ensure Halloween sweets or any treats are kept out of a childs reach and only eaten when you are able to be with them.

  • Beware Of This Kinder Egg Toy

    I wasn’t sure whether to share this because I’m still not over it, I still feel guilty and I am still shaking. But I thought rather than beat myself up I will make awareness.

    Maya is 2.5 she has all these little toys that she plays with under strict supervision, she likes to line them up, feed them, put them in little beds etc, she’s always usually so sensible with them and she had stopped putting things in her mouth a good year ago. I know they are from 3+ but absolutely all her toys are and is there really that much difference between a 3-year-old and a little girl who Is 3 in 4 months?! I strongly believe this could happen to a child of any age which is why I’m sharing.

    Anyway last night somehow she managed to smuggle one up to bed with her, she must have put it in her mouth and fell asleep because I’m just laying feeding my 11 month old next to her and I hear a weird gargling noise. I immediately sat bolt upright and looked in her mouth to see this tiny toy at the back of her throat.

    I quickly yell to her father and he’s there within seconds telling me to phone an ambulance, so I’m screaming words that don’t even make sense down the phone to 999 and he is trying to dislodge this toy. It’s not coming out. He has tried everything and it’s not budging, he flips her back over and blood pours from her throat. Right at that moment I thought she’s dead, this must be a dream, this can’t be happening. As soon as her dad  saw the blood he literally got his finger to back of her throat and pulled it out.

    The ambulance came and took her in, she’s fine. She probably has cuts in her throat where the toy was lodged and she was so very distressed after. I can’t stop thinking what if. She was lifeless and she was so nearly gone 💔 obviously all said toys are now in the bin, she will be spot checked every night and I feel like the worst mum in the world, please be careful ❤️

    Also I’m not saying it’s kinder eggs fault at all it could have happened with any small toy and a child of any age. It just happened to be the particular toy in question. A freak accident. Thankyou so much for all your messages ❤️

  • Postmen Should Be Fined For Risking Animals Lives

    Postmen should be fined for risking animals lives, I for one am totally fed up of lazy inconsiderate postmen who litter our homes and gardens.

    Three times this month my regular pot man has dropped elastic bands on my driveway or along the pavement, I have spoken to him twice already and asked him to stop littering the neighbourhood and he simply shrugged his shoulders and said there wasn’t anything he could do about it.

    Well today the stupid man dropped them again after delivering the mail, my cat Pebbles found it before I did and was playing with it, Pebbles got the elastic band stuck in her tiny throat and nearly choked to death, luckily I was able to dislodge it and rushed my poor little feline to the vets where she was given the all clear, thank god.

    I phoned the post office headquarters and they weren’t even bothered, they couldn’t even apologise, all they could say was unfortunately sometimes elastic bands are dropped or fall out of the post-bag and the post workers aren’t even aware.

    These elastic bands are a health hazard, they can wash into drains and kill sea creatures and choke or strangle domestic, farm or stray animals, something has to be done about it before it’s to late.

    I am sickened with the post office, my cat coud have died because of irresponsible littering, I called 101 to report littering and the risk to animals and again they said they could’t do anything either, how can they get away with this, if i were to drop rubbish in the street i would be fined. Postmen should be fined also and trained to respect the neighbourhoods they deliver to.

  • My Baby Nearly Died Because Of An Innocent Childrens Toy

    “This is the hardest thing I have ever had to write. It’s long but please read. Especially if you are a parent.

    So I’ve just experienced the worst 24 hours of my life. My son Toby yesterday nearly died. They say you can’t watch them 24/7 and how true that is.

    Yesterday around lunchtime Toby managed to put something in his mouth and he started to choke. I walked towards Toby and be walked towards me holding his throat and unable to breathe. Whatever it was had become lodged in his throat blocking his airway. I called rich and he came running. An ambulance was called and we started the attempt to save our boys life. We started with back thrusts but the lodged item Wouldn’t budge. Rich attempted to scoop it out but still to no avail. Our friend and colleague Campbell came to assist and rich and him working as a team started performing CPR.

    Watching that being performed on your own child is a vision I will never be rid of. He managed only a couple of short laboured breaths and went in and out of consciousness. On two occasions he stopped breathing, his body went limp, eyes in the back of his head. We all thought the worst.

    His jaw had locked shut, My limp lifeless boy on the cold kitchen floor. The ambulance crew arrived within 6 minutes and started to attempt to save Toby. He expelled blood from his nose and was blue. Never a sight I ever wish to witness on anybody. I had flashing images throughout it all but never let go of my boy’s hand. I was pulled away at one point but fought my way back to my boy’s side. No matter what outcome he would want his mummy with him.

    The paramedics arrived and took control, Rich and Campbell taking it in turns to perform CPR. The crew managed to get his mouth open and get a blade in and engaged the ball enough to scoop it out. There I was thinking my boy had choked on a marble, not a large approx 4cm wide rubber ball. One of those innocent rubber balls you get in party bag favours, they sell in those machines in pubs, they are super bouncy and great fun! I never ever wish to see one of those balls again.

    Toby was rushed to hospital as he wasn’t able to breathe on his own. He had X-rays and there was a shadow over one lung. There was now the worry of infection and any life long damage caused due to lack of oxygen to his brain. He was able to, with limited response nod or shake his head. Drifting in and out of sleep. My normal talkative 2.5 year old boy wasn’t talking. He was put on antibiotics straight away. He remained on oxygen for over 12 hours, every time they tried to remove it his little body couldn’t cope. He slept longer than he has ever slept in his life with his mummy watching every breath. His little body struggling to breath like it should. He kept getting a raised temperature, something else to cause more concern. I couldn’t bare watching my boy so helpless.

    His big sister brushing her hand across his head, telling him not to put a ball in his mouth. The tears finally started to fall, whilst I bite down on a piece of toast, it’s real. This has really happened to me and my family.

    Before daddy went home he perked up just enough to point to a family photo on the phone and name everyone in the photo. Wow those words daddy, mummy, Darcey, toby and bear. The best words in the world.

    During the night we managed to remove the oxygen and finally Toby managed to breath on his own, no longer laboured but his chest doing what it needs to do.

    After that He slept and he slept, Being checked through the night by the wonderful nurses. That bloody temperature I just wanted it to be back to normal. Finally the sun came up and I was wide awake. Watching my little boy sleep. That temperate checked yet another time, and my prayers finally answered, finally the number 36. Yes Toby you little fighter you body is working as it should. He began talking and he got off the bed looked outside and wanted to go play. The consultant came around this morning and told me how utterly lucky my little boy was. The speedy actions of myself, rich, Campbell and my dad making that call, the paramedics saved my boys life. SAVED MY BOYS LIFE, words are used loosely but my god this time a truer word cannot be spoken. I am the mother of 2 wonderful healthy children x I am blessed and so thankful I cannot express it enough”

    Mini Egg Warning-Parents Take Note

    You’ve all seen the warnings about cutting up grapes before giving them to your children, a lot of schools even place notes in packed lunches if they are not cut the correct way and the meme of how to prepare grapes is forever shared across social media.

    With Easter coming up I want to warn you all about another deadly choking hazard, one that tragically took away my child.

    It has been just short of three years since my precious little girl Sophie passed away she had choked on a mini egg and I was unable to dislodged it, even with back slaps and pushing up and under her ribs, I had done a first aid course only six months prior to this event so all the techniques to help a choking child were still fresh in my mind but it didn’t help, I watched the light slip away from my babies eyes, I tried in vain to save her.

    Sophie was 5 1/2 so not a tiny tot yet this seemingly harmless treat took my angel away.

    If your children enjoy these chocolate treats please watch them extra close and remind them to sit down whilst eating them or avoid them altogether.

    Since Sophie’s passing I have seen many other parents posting into “mum groups”or their personal Facebook timelines saying their child had also choked on mini eggs, please parents be careful I would hate to know another child had been harmed by these Easter treats, if just one person reads this and watches their toddler, child or teen extra close when eating these my daughter’s death will not be in vain, I would love to have them removed from the shelves but I know this will not happen, but getting parents to be extra vigilant is the best I can do, please watch your babies.

  • Mothercare You Absolute Disgrace It Could Have Been Fatal

    Chloe App has taken to Facebook to warn others of a potential danger to babies.

    App said “Mothercare you absolute DISGRACE you should be ashamed to still keep this baby grow on the shelves that could have been fatal to my 6 month daughter! Luckily I never leave my daughter unattended at anytime I’m so grateful as she wouldn’t be here today as I turned round from washing the dishes to find her purple choking on the attachment shown on this picture in my hand

    It came detached from the baby grow I should make you all aware my daughter was over 6 weeks premature and still doesn’t have a single tooth !!

    After returning this item back For investigation I’m advised the baby-grow is fine as cotton was still attached to the detachment and they will stay on the shelves but they will monitor them for more complaints but was happy to refund the buyer (was bought as a gift)

    After asking mothercare to re consider looking into the baby grow today I’ve received my baby grow back

    Thankyou for your appalling response and causing me so much upset and distress I will never purchase items from you ever again

    Parents PLEASE DONT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.

    App has received a lot of feedback on her post but at present Mothercae aren’t taking it to seriously.

    One lady commented saying “So Mothercare are going to wait until lots of babies have choked before taking action, I’m appalled they have responded to you like this Chloe, they are meant to be a store to help mothers and babies not cause potential harm”.

    Others have also stated that they have this baby grow and had no issues what so ever with it and even claimed maybe  it was just through over tumble drying the outfit and making the design weak.
